Can not reconnect

I have set up my IBM compatible as the network manager through the USB port on a new Airport Extreme. I am able to access my ADSL Internet fine when I start up my computer, but if I somehow lose my connection - and I'm not sure how this happens but it does - then my computer redials to reconnect. The problem is that it can not make the connection. It acts like it has the wrong number, but I've replaced the number several times. The only way I can get back on line is by restarting my computer. Sometimes I will get a message that I am offline and need to reconnect in order to load a page, but while I try to reconnect the page loads. I think I have two connection programs somehow running at the same time. At this point, I have not purchased any wireless computers to connect to my new network. While this prevents me from seeing if I have the same problem with a different computer, I would like to get my network running first. Also, I'm not sure if ADSL is currently used much in the states, but it is what I have here.

Please clear up something I don't understand from reading your message: you indicate you are using DSL, yet you also talk about the computer "redialing to reconnect" and you have "replaced the number several times" - things associated with use of a dialup (not DSL) connection.
If you use DSL, and your ISP requires use of the PPPoE protocol to establish a connection, you must configure the Base Station to handle the PPPoE connection. This is done with the Airport Admin Utility - select your Base Station, click Configure, click the Internet tab, select to "connect using PPP over ethernet" and enter your DSL account user name and password. Also check the box to "always stay connected". Then update settings to the Base Station. Two additional points:
- make sure your DSL modem is connected to the Base Station's ethernet WAN port (the one labelled with the "circle of dots" icon)
- make sure your PC is configured to obtain an IP address and gateway/DNS addresses automatically. This is selected in Start->Control Panel->Network Connections->right click on the ethernet port->select TCP/IP->click Properties.

    Dear Terence, Thank you for responding to my problem. In no way did I mean to discredit the dedication and work of the volunteers assisting Apple customers and if I did, I apologize. I am just so tired of having to purchase a new computer every other year as so it seems.  I know they are not perfected, but it is very frustrating when they just go kaput.  I am always the first person to appreciate a kind deed and do appreciate your support and help regarding this unfortunate issue. My iPad was the greatest computer I've had until this morning and was disappointed.  Again, thank you for your concern and for your help. It is greatly appreciated.

  • Can not reconnect when restoring files

    Need help here. I had a computer crash, and installed my adobe Photoshop element
    s 8 again. Used the "restore" function to restore all my pictures with tags, and restored them to my computer - everything ok so far
    . Problem is the PSE says I need to reconnect about half my photos
    - Photoshop can not find them, and does not display them either. I have checked, and all photos are present on
    my external harddisk that i have restored the files from.

    I have moved them from the backup and back onto my computer. Half the pictures gives me no problem, but for some reason the other half does not copy over to the new location (I am restoring the whole catalog with all my pictures). The tags are there, but the picture itself is not.
    Going into the backup file, I can see all my pictures, but when going onto my computer after restoring the entire catalog, I see the pictures are missing. Guess it is wrong to say it is a reconnection problem, as the pictures actually does not get "transferred" over to my computer.
    Example: From 2007 I am missing probably 1000 pictures, but I have 20 from one specific event... This means I can see no reason why some of the pictures will simply not copy over. I have tried several times, but with the same result...

        de1stbigmac, This is definitely strange, indeed! Let's figure this out.  Have you installed any new applications or software to the phone since Friday, when this began? Have you tried to restart your Wifi Router? What error messages do you receive when trying to connect? We'll do all we can to help.

  • Can not reconnect files

    Some how my system updated itself to 10.4.11.
    Now i have nothing but problems.
    Besides my fce issues, my itunes library has been deleted. Anyway some of my files were in that library. When i try to reconnect the items in the FCE browser to back up files on other drives i get a file error or unknown error msg. I am running FCE 3.0.
    This is just crazy how nothing apple does is backward compatible. How would people like it if the updates to atm machines were not backward compatible.
    so now the project i was working on is in limbo until i can get this fixed. Please don't tell me that i have to upgrade to FCE 4. And no my itunes library with over 100 purchased tracks was not backed up.

    I won't say anything about what you don't want to know.
    I will say that FCE can reconnect files.
    I have no idea why your iTunes Library is in trouble. There's no way FCE can reconnect at the moment until it's fixed.
    That's best asked in the iTunes forum. They should be able to help.

  • Wi-Fi dropping and can not reconnect

    I have a 4S, my WiFi has worked fine, I connected it to ITunes and did the upgrade to IOS6, it actually failed (don't remember the number) and did a restore which completed successfully.  Not sure if the failure mattered or not but now my WiFi is having difficulties connecting and drops after it goes to sleep for a certain amount of time.
    Here is the normal situation.
    Wake up IPhone and it lists 3G
    I go to the Wi-Fi settings and "Choose a Network..." just spins and spins
    I hard shutdown and when it restarts it connects to my home network right away and is listed in the Choose a Network.
    I then am done using the phone so put it in sleep mode and when I turn it on (after about 10 minutes), it does not auto connect (shows 3G) and again is not listed in Networks.
    I then repeat shutdown to see network.
    Here are the things I have tried:
    Turn off Wi-Fi and then back on (no luck)
    Turn on Airplane mode and back off (may have worked once but not reproducible)
    Used the "Reset Network Settings" option which of course worked at first since it restarted the device but resulted in same behavior
    I redid a restore just because I was frustrated and reaching...
    I've read a lot about different drop issues but have not read this kind where it can't even find the networks.
    Other suggestions?

    I just wanted to close this issue out in case anyone reads it. 
    I ended up taking the phone to the Apple Genius Bar.  They ran an in-store reset (which is probably just a DFU restore), I reproduced the problem in store again and they replaced the phone as a hardware problem.  I don't know if it was coincidence with the IOS upgrade or not, but looks like the WiFi antenna wasn't working right.

  • MacBook Air can not reconnect wirelessly to airport extreme with yosemite

    I have the latest version of Yosemite (10.10.1), and have upgraded the Airport firmware. Using MacBookAir, mid 2011 version, I have trouble connecting finder to the network drive on Airport. I have to cycle wireless on/off to access. But, when using "save as" from Safari, it will not connect at all. It may connect after a shut down and start up, but if it goes into sleep mode or screen save, it will not connect at all (save as).
    All this worked just fine before Yosemite, and works on my iMac w/o Yosemite too.
    I think this might be a systemic Yosemite issue, but don't know how to connect with the AppleSupport Team for that product.

    I face a big problem. My company use VPN Connection. After my company upgrade the window from Window 7 to Window8.1 , we find that we can not reconnect the network drive. please find the details below:

    both the server and PC are joined in same domain.

    Is there any error message throwed when you reconnect the mapped drive? Can you directly access the UNC path of the mapped drive? What VPN programs do you use? Please check if the VPN client connect correctly.

    Hi,
    How did you map the network drive? Manually via GUI? Command? GPP? If you're using one of the above solutions, then try other solutions as a alternative way to check the result.
    According to your description, If Windows remains unable to reconnect mapped Network Drive at login, then I would suggest you created a batch file with net use command, use it as an logon script, this provides an alternate way to reconnect drives on
    a re-logon.

  • My iPhone can not remember my Bluetooth headset

    I have a Linux pc + csr bluetooth USB dongle. It runs blueZ and hfpd. It works with Motorola android phone and Nokia windows phone.
    I can connect with ipone, but I can not reconnect with iPhone after I power cycle my linux. The connection always refused by iphone on ssp authentication. I tried to disable SSP mode, it does not solve the problem. IPhone Bluetooth shows my Bluetooth HFP device is paired and not connected.
    There has an interesting symptom. When my Linux is trying to reconnect with iPhone (always rejected by iPhone for authentication fail), if I open iPhone Bluetooth setting page, then iPhone will pop out a dialog to ask me if I want to paire the HFP device or not, if I choose YES, my Linux HFP will connect with iPhone immediately . It is really weird.
    I do not want to reconnect my HFP manually every time I power cycle my Linux or iPhone. Does somebody has solution ?
    BTW, my iPhone works very well with my Sony, Motorola headset and my car.

  • ITunes musical library located on a WD 2TB, ext. drv. Computer destroyed by virus; ED survived. Bought new laptop, connected ED. Not able to see library. ED shows as 'G:' 95% full. How can I reconnect my old library to new laptop?

    I had my iTunes musical library on an ext. drv. WD 2TB, ‘MY BOOK ESSENTIAL'. Three weeks ago, my computer was infected by a virus that fried it. It did not affect the external drive. I bought a new computer: a laptop, Dell XPS, Intel Core i7-2630QM CPU, Windows 7 Home Premium. I have been able to connect the WD external drive; however, I am not able to see the musical library in my iTunes or Explorer. ‘My Computer’ shows the external drive as ‘G:’ 95% full. It reads, 32.1 GB free of 1.36 TB. When I click on the drive to see its contents, it shows nothing. The library in iTunes also shows nothing. Can anyone help, please? How can I reconnect my old musical library to my new laptop and iTunes? Many thanks.

    Hmm, viruses don't generally "fry" drives. They can make bootable operating systems not bootable, hide data, and corrupt executable files. Software can potentially wipe all the data from the drive but it shouldn't be able to physically damage the drive. Bah! What's done is done.
    As to unhiding your files assuming they are just hidden....
    Hit Start > Run, type in CMD and press enter. Type the following at the prompt and then press enter:
    attrib -h -s -r g:\*.* /d /s
    This tells windows to clear the hidden, read-only, and system flags from all files on the drive, assuming of course your profile has the power to "see" the files and change them.
    If that doesn't work then you may need to take ownership of the drive first. The drive may have security settings that make it "belong" to an account on your old system. Right-click on the drive in Windows Explorer and click Properties. Click the Security tab, the Advanced button, the Owner tab, then the Edit tab. Make yourself the owner, then you can make any other changes to the security settings you want to back on the Permissions tab. (If you can't change the owner log out and log back in as Administrator). For iTunes your account (or everyone) and SYSTEM need full access to all files. Any changes you make should be applied to "This folder, subfolders and files", should be inheritable and you should also replace the permissions on all child objects.

  • Can only connect to enterprise wifi the first time each day, then does not reconnect and got the "Associati​on Failed" error

    To save battery, I leave my wifi off when the TP's screen is locked.  At home, my TP has no problem reconnecting to wifi after the screen is unlocked.  However, at work, which uses enterprise wifi, I can only connect the first time.  If I lock the screen and then unlock it (causing the wifi to turn off and on again) then the TP will not reconnect and I would get the "Association failed" error over and over again.  If I were to turn the TP off and on again, I would still get the same error.  Here's the strange part, if I come in work the next day, it would be able to connect to the wifi.  If I were to leave the wifi on all the time, it would not disconnect even if I lock the screen.  Now if I were to turn off the wifi and then turn it on again, the TP would not reconnect.  So it seems like the TP can only connect the first time each day....very strange...and frustrating.

    Scimmia is right.  But you AcousticBruce are still very wrong.  You claim there were no error messages.  Yet after much proding and denial you finally provide small portions of error messages which fully identify the problem and can be found in many other posts in these forums.  Yet still, you haven't actually provided full output - instead you paraphrased the output after a couple of "//" symbols.
    If you don't give us the actual output we can't help - except in this case the error is so common we could very easily help.  So could the wiki page on wpa_supplicant if you had read it, as your problem is explictly listed there in a "NOTE" box.  But more importantly if you are reluctant to give us actual output we will not want to help you.
    This issue would have been solved instantly if you would have provided the actual output instead of lying about it.

  • Can not see all the clips in large Icon view in my bin

    I arranged my clips in a bin in large Icon view but i can not see all the clips in the bin while in that mode. I see the clips when in list mode or when i drag them out of the bin into the main bin. As soon I drag them back in large icon view bin they do not show up, when going back in list view they are there.
    Any idea
    Also my daughter accidently pulled the electrical plug, which turned my external hard drive off. So the media was off line. I hit reconnect the clip but the clip does not show as connected in the bin it keeps the Media offline icon but putting the clip in the viewer or time line it plays it. So the clip is reconnected

    thanks for your message it helped to show the clips. Here how I solved it. I put the clips i could not see in large Icon view, to the Project folder. Even in the project folder I was only seeing the clips with Thumbnail in list view. When i hit large Icon view the clips disappeared, and they could not have been lower down as i only have about 5 folders in the project. I then clicked arrange the clip by name and they showed up again. Like that i dragged the clip back in to its bin and it showed up. The reason for going back and forth I arranged the clips manually in the bin before and when hitting arrange by name it spread them to far apart and put the clips not in a sequence I liked.
    for the second part I followed Neil's suggestion it worked.
