Can not reset all settings

I recently updated to ios 7.0.2. on my 4S and noticed a problem in not being able to enter events on my calendar. This turned out ot be a set up problem as only the "Birthdays Calendar" was selected.
However, in the process of troubleshooting with Apple Tech support, I was not able to use "Reset All Settings" under Settings, General, Reset.
My four digit pass code entered for Passcode Lock when I set up the ios7 update does not allow access to "Reset All Settings" and "Erase All Content and Settings". This passcode does permit me access to the remainder reset options on the Reset page.
Although not a problem now, if my iPhone is stolen, I would not be able to clean out my personal data.
Any thoughts or ideas? Should I do a full Restore after backing up my data and settings? Will this force the need to enter a new pass code?

  • Mail wont start - can i reset all settings

I haven't used mail on my leopard until now, been using entourage. Now I want to switch. I have used mail since OSX came out until quite recently so I am familiar with it.
Its all set up correctly but on 'get mail' the progress window shows it is 'gathering children' and thats all I get - no progress and a force quit is required.
Can I get back to vanilla and start all over? How can I get a clean start again on Mail?

    Nick,
Exit Mail and remove/or Move the folder ~/Library/Mail and Mails plist's to your desktop or trash. The plist's are located in ~/Library/Preferences I believe there is a com.apple.mail.plist and possibly if you have downloads associated with your mail, I don't so I don't know the exact name but my guess is com.apple.mail.download.plist. Please note the ~ = Your Home directory.
Then open Mail it will be like you never ran it before. Oh and You can go ahead and delete the plist's the Files in the Mail folder are your old emails if you have any that have been downloaded.
    Hope that helps,
    Weston

Did you follow the instructions here:

Pay attention to differences in power connection depending on whether or not you have AppleTV2 or AppleTV 3.
Also some microUSB leads don't seem to work - try another if you can. Disconnect superfluous USB device/hubs too if possible.

  • My IPAD won't accept my wi-fi password. I have tried resetting all settings and network settings but still won't accept it. Can't download to new version of IOS either, says software update server could not be contacted.

Yes I have put in the correct password, its all numbers so can't get it wrong really.
It has connected before as has my iPod and that won't connect either. I have checked that they aren't on the blocked list of the wi fi. Managed to download the new version of iOS and that hasn't made a difference.
I have the wi fi plugged directly into the computer rather than the booster hub as the computer won't connect to it when its in the hub. I did get the iPad to connect to the internet when it twas in the hub but once I upgraded the iOS it won't accept the wifi password in the hub either.

  • My 3gs is magnifying my screen so that I can't access the "edges" of the screen - most functions won't work.  I tried to reset "all settings" but I can't access the full keypad to enter my passcode.  Re-boot does not solve this.

I have an Iphone 3gs - a little over one year old.  It just started magnifying the screen so that many of the functions are not accessable.  Scrolling is either very difficult or impossible.  I've rebooted it many times (in fact I usually need to do that multiple time just to be able to manpulate the keypad to enter my passcode).
I also tried to reset all settings.  One that screen I can't access enough of the keypad to enter my passcode.  Any comments/help would be appreciated.

This is asked and answered often.  The forum search bar is on the right side of this page.
It is also covered in the manual - zoom feature.
    Double tap with three fiongers.

I have an iPad 1st generation that no longer has working volume buttons but every once in a while the sound turns on.  So I know the speakers still work.  I have tried resetting all settings and made sure that my side switch was auto lock not auto mute. I have tried the mystical swiping upward on the screen with 4 fingers to get some special sound menu (which I never succeeded in getting).  My headphone jack doesn't work all the time either so some times my kids can hear their games and sometimes they can't.  I am super frustrated at this point.  So any suggestions would be great.  Am I missing something basic or do we just have a soundless iPad now?

  • Reset all settings and contants ipad. Now ipad is not open?why?on the screen always apple icon.

reset all settings and contants ipad. Now ipad is not open?why/ on the screen always apple icon.

Why would you do that? That's not how you deal with issues on your iPad, that's how you deal with problems on poorly designed Windows machines.
    Try this First...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...

  • HT1212 Hi, I am unable to reset all settings.. I don't remember the pass code.. I am able to reset network settings and other settings. Can someone please gelp

Hi, I am unable to reset all settings.. I don't remember the pass code.. I am able to reset network settings and other settings. Can someone please help

If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup).
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.
You may have to force iPad into Recovery Mode

  • IPhone 5 speaker suddenly stopped working... I have done Reset all settings, but still not working...

I have been using iPhone 5 for 2months. There wasn't any problem. But today my phone's speaker suddenly stopped working. Earphone and ear speaker is working normally. I have done reset all settings. But there is no change, still not working.
I think it happened after i plugged into computer by USB cable, and plugged of. Then it stopped working.
Also it had became unresponsive few times before, when i plug into computer.
    What should i do now?

but can you hear sounds with the earphones on? I guess the only solution to fix this prob is to send my i5 to a nearby Apple and let them check what should be done. anyways can you keep me posted about the status of your iphone 5? :)

  • My iphone 4s has been reporting invalid sim/sim card failure intermittently for a week. tried to solve problem permanently - in mid of reset all settings my sim card failed again. help! not backed up on icloud, just itunes.  don't ask. thanks!

my iphone 4s has been reporting invalid sim/sim card failure intermittently for a week. I thought it was a one/two-time thing, so had to manually eject SIM card and put back in.  Today, after it happened twice in 12 hours, someone told me to reset - i thought they meant reset all settings, not network settings.  while in the middle of resetting, there was an invalid SIM card again.  so a few questions - which should i do first?  try to manually back up from itunes (not connected to cloud - will be after tonight!), or eject SIM card?  don't know if one will jeopardize the other.  also, the last time i backed up was 6 days ago - have taken hundreds of pics since then - are those all lost?  is there a way to essentially not reset?  i thought the reset was okay because it said i'd lose no data or media. Help!  thanks much!

Thank you wjsten for your soon reply. Unfortunately on these days I'm in a country that Apple don't have any retail store here and for sake of time I prefer to fix it myself to DHL it to the nearest country to use its warranty. Do you have any idea how can I fix it? Do you think it's a software issue?

If you forgot your restrictions passcode then yuou have to:
    - Restore from a backup that was make before you added the Restrictions passcode. If you restore from a backup made with the Restrictions passcode the Restrictions passcode is also restored.
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - If you are up to it see:

Help! Upload 8.1 on my iPad 2 and now I can't get any wifi nor can I reset any settings.  When I try to go on my iCloud it is all greyed out and no longer recognizes my password.
I also can't turn off "Find my iPad" on iTunes in order to do a restore.

Try a reset first. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time until the Apple logo appears on the screen. It takes about 10 seconds. After the iPad restarts, see if you can get into your settings.
