  • IPod Touch 4g does not restore/update - error 3194

    Hello,
I've recently been having a great deal of trouble with my 64GB iPod Touch 4g, which I purchased in maybe late March or early April of this year. I consider myself adequately learned in technology and I've done a vast amount of research into this problem, and have not been able to resolve it, so I took it upon myself to ask my question here.
Firstly, I am running iTunes on a Windows 7 64-bit system, and I should note that I have found lots of answers to similar problems for people with jailbroken iPod Touches, but I don't think these solutions would work for me since I have not jailbroken my iPod. I have also not yet upgraded to iOS 6, but was on the latest version of iOS (5.x...I don't remember). Also, I bought my iPod from Amazon so obviously the 30-day return window has expired.
Anyway, on to the problem. Yesterday, my iPod froze and so I reverted to the 'hard reboot' method of fixing it by pressing the home key and the sleep key at the same time, and released when the Apple logo showed up. I waited for the device to reboot as it normally does, except that in all the previous times I have done this hard reboot, while the Apple logo shows up for a little while until the lock screen loads, this time that did not happen. Instead, there were colored bars that showed up on the screen (I don't know how to describe it, exactly) that eventually covered up the Apple logo and faded into a completely white screen. From this screen, I tried the hard reboot again and the Apple logo showed up again, only to be covered up by those bars and fading into white again. I tried rebooting it a few more times, but to no avail.
I then opened iTunes and plugged in my iPod, but it was not recognised by the computer (presumably because it was not fully on), so I tried putting the device in DFU recovery mode (hold the sleep key and home key until the device tells you to connect to iTunes). At this point, iTunes seemed to recognize that a device was plugged in, but not that it was my iPod because where it normally gives you the information (my iPod, Capacity: ...., Serial number: ... and so forth), the information just read 'iPod' (not 'My iPod', as it was named before this unfortunate event), 'Capacity: n/a, Serial number: n/a', and so forth. I pressed the 'restore' button and there was an error, 3194, on the step 'Verifying restore with Apple'.
So I went to Google, looking up troubleshooting tips for this particular error, and most of the answers I found were just for people with jailbroken iPods, even though mine isn't jailbroken. I have tried numerous solutions (updating the hosts file in drivers, turning off the firewall, etc) to no avail, and I still get that pesky white screen whenever I try to reboot my device.
I'm also worried that even if I get my device to restore successfully, then it still might not boot up properly. To be honest, I'm a little more worried about the booting problem than the restoring problem.
Does anyone have any advice for what I should do in this situation, other than visit the Apple store? There is one in my town but I feel like I've invested a lot in this device and I don't want to pay too much for any repairs that may need to be done (especially considering that this appears to be a software issue and not a hardware one); I'm a high school student and don't have that much money.
    Thank you for any help.

I plugged my Iphone 3gs into computer to update and it went into recovery mode and now can not restore which is the next prompted step. Computer and I tunes says they are fully updateded as well.Tried restarting computer and Iphone. Still no luck.

Force your phone into DFU mode (search google) and restore.
Note:  if your phone has been previously jailbroken, these steps may not work and you may have "bricked" your phone for good.

  • Can't restore iPhone error 1015

Was trying to sync my iPhone in iTunes and it said it needed to upgrade so I said ok and now it won't restore because of error 1015 what do I do?

    try this
    hat is iPhone DFU mode?
DFU mode is a state that you can put your iPhone into where it can interface with iTunes but does not load the iPhone operating system or boot loader (this is what really differs DFU mode fromrecovery mode). DFU stands for Device Firmware Update.
What is DFU mode used for?
The primary reason people need to access DFU mode on their iPhone is to change the firmware on the device. This can serve to downgrade to a prior iPhone firmware and operating system, or to use a custom firmware that is required for a jailbreak or SIM unlock. For instance, if you got theiPhone OS 4 download installed and decided you would rather have a prior version of the firmware on your iPhone, you would need to do this through DFU mode.
How to enter iPhone DFU mode
Connect the iPhone to your computer and launch iTunes
Turn the iPhone off (hold down the power button at the top of the iPhone)
Hold down the sleep/power button and home button together for exactly 10 seconds, then release the power button
Continue to hold down the Home button until a message appears in iTunes telling you an iPhone in recover mode has been detected
When you are in DFU mode your iPhone screen will be completely black
Even though the screen is black, that doesn’t mean the device can’t be interfaced with either iTunes or a custom firmware client (for jailbreaking, etc).
Remember that if you see the restore logo, iTunes logo, or any message on the iPhone screen, you are not in DFU mode but standard Recovery Mode. Again, DFU mode is signified by having a completely black screen on the device. If anything else is the case, repeat the steps above until you enter into DFU mode successfully.
    Exit DFU mode on iPhone
The simplest way to exit out of DFU mode is to hold down the Home and sleep/power buttons on the iPhone while connected to iTunes. Then just hit the power button as and this should reboot the device as usual.
And if you’re curious, yes this works all the same on an iPod touch.
The most common use for DFU mode is to jailbreak. It’s not unusual for people to buy an existing iPhone and jailbreak the device to use the phone on another network or overseas, this is often a cheaper way to get an iPhone than to sign into a contract with AT&T, pay roaming charges, or pay the full iPhone 4 price. This is assuming you can find someone with the new iPhone that will sell it, considering how tight iPhone 4 availability and demand is at the moment, that might be difficult!

  • Can't restore Iphone - error 28

    Hello
I'm trying to restore a friends Iphone. I've been trying for over a week now. I have the latest upgrades/updates - 3.1.2 and it seems to be going good. Then it bombs out and gives me error 28 Iphone could not be restored. Why and is this a software issue. I have ports open and my itunes is up to date - version 9. I read of a lot of people having this seem issue and very few have found a answer. Is there a way to go back update wise and just stay at a lower version to this issue is fixed? And does the restore need to be from their computer?
    RevClyburn

all thats happening is we are being ignored. that said its a software issue try restoing as a new phone by plugging into itunes hold the power button and the home button down at the same time till itunes says it has found a phone in retsore mode and follow the on screen promts do not restore from a back up you could be importing the problem.

  • Please help have error code 1013 and can not restore iphone 3gs

i have tried every thing i can find to restore 3gs and no luck
tried 4 different computers and 3 cables and all the usb ports on the computers
i have even tried the gs.apple.com fix and no go.. am at a loss on what to do next any help
would be great thank you all

Every time I restore I get a different code last 2 times I have gotten code 1002
    And 1013 a few times.
Error 1002 usually means a hardware problem. If you've tried several known working cables, the problem is likely in thte phone itself.
+"Error 23, 28, 29, 40, 1002, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1611: These errors may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow the steps in this article and also attempt to restore while connected with a known-good 30-pin Dock Connector cable, computer, and network to isolate this issue to the device. If the MAC address is missing or the IMEI is the default value (00 499901 064000 0), this can also confirm a hardware issue."+

  • Lost "Encrypt iPhone Backup PW and can not Restore iPhone from iTunes?

Late LATE night attempt to Reset iPhone via USB connection to iTunes ened up insread with me Erasing All Content and Settings from iPhone directly after encrypted back up of phone to Macbook then attempting Restore from Macbook to iPhone. Lost most of my iPhone contacts and still cannot remember or find copy of pw for encrypted backup UNLESS that is because my Macbook is now encrypted with FileVault. I put a copy of the password for encrypting iPhone Backup in my 1password app and am positive it is good is only being rejected because Macbook in now encrypted. All I want is my iPhone contacts. So I am de-encrypting my Macbook now. Kind of in a pickle when you loose the only copy of you resonal contacts. Can anyone help sort this mess out? My level of computer competence is really lacking.
If they would just stop spying so much these things (encryptions, FileVault etc)  would not be nessaccary.

The syncing is happening through the cell network not the wifi so it didn't help to turn off the router.  Here's what I ended up doing that finally worked:
I restored the backup.  Before I could use the phone, it takes me through a few steps.  On the icloud step, I actually skipped it, so I didn't enter my password.  At that point the phone was usable again so I went to settings>icloud and turned off Contacts.  I double checked and my contacts were still on my phone.  THen I went to settings>icloud and entered my password and the turned contacts back on.  At that point it asked me if I wanted the contacts merged and I said yes.  A few minutes later my contacts were still on my phone and I checked my icloud account online and the contacts had been syced there as well.  Finally!  It worked!

  • Can not restore IPOD error 1439

I have tried everything to restore the harddrive it keeps telling me it is corupted I go through all the steps and I get error 1439?
    Help

I had a similar problem, error 1439 when restoring.  Fixing it was as simple as plugging my iPod into one of my PC's rear USB ports, not the front panel ones.  I then had a follow-up problem where it couldn't restore because the some files were already in use but restarting my PC sorted that out.
No idea why - the front panel ones work fine for everything else, but I guess my iPod is fussy.

  • HT201263 iPhone 4 is in recovery mode but iTunes can not restore it.. Says unknown error occurred  (21) HELP!

I've just got back of holiday and while there my phone decided to turn itself off, it would not come back on unless I plugged it into the wall charger, it said that I had to connect it to iTunes, but being on holiday I couldn't.
So when I got home yesterday I plugged it into my laptop and the Apple logo came on, and then went off again, then back on and off again, it was doing this untill I unplugged it. So I put it into recovery mode and it said Connect to iTunes, so I did. It then said that the phone needed to be restored, iTunes started this process, 'extracting software' it said, and then once that was done it said 'preparing iPhone for restore' but then my phone disconnects itself from the laptop and then connects again then disconnects again. Then iTunes comes up with a message saying 'iTunes can not restore this iPhone 'iPhone', a unkown error occured (21)'
I have tried over and over again to try and do this but it keeps coming up with the same.
Does anyone know what's wrong with my iPhone and how I can fix it?
    Thanks

And what did the error message say?
