  • Can not restore iPod touch -error #1604

    So here is the situation:
I have a 32GB iPod 2G and two days ago I tried to upgrade the software to 3.1 and because the backup was taking so long I let it run overnight. Yesterday morning I noticed an error showing (can't remember what it said exactly) saying the update failed.
Ever since my iPod is only telling me to connect it to iTunes which is telling me that I have to restore my iPod but trying so always fails and iTunes tels me that error #1604 occured (all the time!!)
I already tried every last advice I found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275 including using a different PC ,other cables / ports etc.
I would be grateful for any help

I had this exact same problem. I was able to solve it by connecting to one of the USB ports on my Mac instead of using the powered USB hub that I had been using. I notice you say you've tried different ports, have you tried on of the ports directly on your Mac (or PC)?

  • Can't restore ipod touch 2g (MC)?

Important info beforehand: I have a iPod Touch 2g MC model, on iOS 4.2.1. I use the latest iTunes update, and my laptop OS is Windows 7...
    Hello all!
Here's the backstory, I am new to the support community and have started using it just to find a solution to this following problem:
I have realized that my iPod is cluttered with loads of stuff that I dont actually use and is running alot slower than it could, so I decided to restore it to a clean, default iOS 4.2.1. I also had a passcode on it which i had forgotten (after not using the ipod for quite some time), and this made a restore the only option available if i wanted to use my iPod.
So, I plug my iPod in, it starts syncing and I cancel it to save some time. Then I click the little "Restore" button and a small window pops up saying "Contacting the iPod software update server" and I wait for iTunes to do its thing... After about half a minute, I am faced with a different message, an error this time, saying "The iPod software update server could not be contacted" and I click ok and nothing happens... At this point in time I notice the "Accessing iTunes Store" mesage at the top of itunes is still going where it should have stopped ages ago, but i put it aside. I then procede to put my ipod in Recovery Mode and try the restore again and, again, the same error mesage. Hmm... I know i have previously downloaded the 4.2.1 ipsw file somewhere, so I search my computer for it and once i find it I shift click the restore button and restore with the ipsw. This time, the restore process seems to go through normally, up to the point where I would normally be faced with the screen in iTunes where I can set up my iPod as a new one or not, however, this does not happen. My iPod boots up to a "Connect to iTunes" screen, with no unlock slider, but it does have the battery icon in the top right hand corner...  It is connected to iTunes? And on the iTunes window it seems to recognise my iPod but when i click the iPod tab under Devices on the left hand side of iTunes, I am taken to a Blank screen with the word iPod is displayed right in the middle, and there is the "Accessing iTunes Store" still going at the top... This is the point I am at... I've searched for hours on the internet but to no avail ... I've even re-installed itunes and all apple software AND I've re set the hosts file, Which all of this seems to be linked to... I also cannot access the iTunes store and cannot authorize/de authorize this computer without another one at my disposal... Help!
I highly doubt this is a common problem but if it is (Or isn't for that matter) and someone knows a fix, please, PLEASE tell me ASAP!!
    Thanks Everyone!
    Cameron

I was looking to see if it could be a server-side problem! I've already tried that link before, I guess I'll have to try everything again tomorrow when its not 12 minutes pat midnight haha! Thanks for your help

  • Can you restore ipod touch by using serial No

My friend give me the ipod because he forgot his password and i ask can i have it and he said yes

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
If it is a 5G iPod with iOS 7 or later you will then have to enter the Apple ID and password of the last user.. See:

I have tried various things to get rid of this problem restarting my laptop and also I have updated my itunes software to the newest one. Any help with this problem will be great cheers

    Two solutions:
    - Disable the computer's security software during the download and update.
    - Directly download and install the update using the instuctions here:

  • Can not restore iPod, iTunes Network Connection Timed Out

Cannotrestore iPod, iTunes Network Connection Timed Out. I have updated my iTunesversion, but still can’t perform iPod restore. I turned off my firewall, tried numeroustimes for the past 3 days

Did you also disable your antivirus?  Some users reported that they had to configure their security software to no automatically startup on boot up and then reboot their computer.  Just turning off/disabling without rebooting did not work.

  • Can not restore Ipod 4th generation

Last night I updated my Ipod software and was syncing it through Itunes. When I returned I discovered my Ipod went into recovery mode. When I tried to restore my device it indicates error code 1604. I tried troubleshooting error code 1640 and still could not get my Ipod to recover and it is not recognized in Itunes. My husband's ipod syncs up and is just fine when we use the same computer and USB cord. Any suggestions!?!!!!!!!!!

    Did you try everything here:
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for error 1604.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

  • Can not restore IPOD error 1439

I have tried everything to restore the harddrive it keeps telling me it is corupted I go through all the steps and I get error 1439?
    Help

I had a similar problem, error 1439 when restoring.  Fixing it was as simple as plugging my iPod into one of my PC's rear USB ports, not the front panel ones.  I then had a follow-up problem where it couldn't restore because the some files were already in use but restarting my PC sorted that out.
No idea why - the front panel ones work fine for everything else, but I guess my iPod is fussy.
