Can not restore non jailbroken iphone 4 to ios 7.1
I was using ios 6.1.3 on my iphone 4 8gb.
Then i thought to update to ios7.1 since i heard that 7.1 is bit faster than 7.0.
So i downloaded the ipsw for ipswdownloader.com.
The problem is i can not restore it from itunes.
The restore process started and at the last got an error 14.
Now i tried thrice but still getting error 14.
Can not solve this.
Please help me.
My device now has stuck on connect to itunes.
Its not starting .

This is why you should only update your iPhone using the version of the software provided by Apple.
Try putting your phone in DFU mode. A Google search will turn up the directions.

ive just updated my iphone it automatcially did it via itunes on my pc and now i've lost all my apps and can not restore from icloud and itunes sync and my apple id isnt accepting my password what on earth is happening im tearing my hair out!!! stupid update

This often happens with Jailbroken phones. If that's the case, we can't support you in these forums as it is against the terms of use. This is Apple's information on error 3194:
This device is not eligible for the requested build: Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194." If you receive this alert, update to the latest version of iTunes. Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, follow Troubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. First you must uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer, then edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from the hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart. I plugged my Iphone 3gs into computer to update and it went into recovery mode and now can not restore which is the next prompted step. Computer and I tunes says they are fully updateded as well.Tried restarting computer and Iphone. Still no luck.

I've just got back of holiday and while there my phone decided to turn itself off, it would not come back on unless I plugged it into the wall charger, it said that I had to connect it to iTunes, but being on holiday I couldn't.
So when I got home yesterday I plugged it into my laptop and the Apple logo came on, and then went off again, then back on and off again, it was doing this untill I unplugged it. So I put it into recovery mode and it said Connect to iTunes, so I did. It then said that the phone needed to be restored, iTunes started this process, 'extracting software' it said, and then once that was done it said 'preparing iPhone for restore' but then my phone disconnects itself from the laptop and then connects again then disconnects again. Then iTunes comes up with a message saying 'iTunes can not restore this iPhone 'iPhone', a unkown error occured (21)'
I have tried over and over again to try and do this but it keeps coming up with the same.
Does anyone know what's wrong with my iPhone and how I can fix it?

Guess what? After posting, I read another thread on this topic where someone said they went to an Apple store and the tech person there added the optional username and password in the Outgoing Mail Server boxes, and then reset the phone again. Although I had tried resetting and restarting a few times today, I had NOT reset it after entering the username and password into the optional fields.
When I entered my username and password into the optional fields, the iPhone entered checks (ticks) to the right of every entry; it had not done this earlier. (I didn't reset at this time, and the outgoing mail would still not transmit).
So just now, I reset it and the outgoing email was sent!
Thanks to you and this forum, it's a great ending to a few frustrating days.
I hope this message helps others. Not only does everything have to be entered correctly in the respective boxes; but once everything is entered and you press the "Done" button, every box should then have a check mark next to it and then you must reset the phone. -
I probably misclicked when I activated the security lock on the iPhone and now I can not figure out what password I entered. Moreover, I have patches and funky looking phone so I can not restore iphine pres itunes. Please advice.
Your only recourse is to force it into DFU mode:
Turn your phone off and connect your cable to the computer, but not the device just yet. Start up iTunes. Now, hold down the home button on your phone and plug it in to the cable - don't let go of the button until iTunes tells you it's detected a phone in recovery mode. Now you can restore to factory settings. -

See if you can force the phone into recovery mode:
Turn your phone off. Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new. -
