Can not see historical data in Time Machine backup

Hi folks
First my setup:
   MBP Late2012
   Samsung Evo 840 SSD
external USB 3.0 1TB as TimeMachine HD
   Mac OS X Mavericks
Now my problem.
After updating to Mavericks I've made a full backup with Time Machine.
Then I swapped the former 500TB HDD to the Samsung Evo 840 500TB.
A clean setup of Mavericks follows.
After that I restored the Backup from Time Machine.
Everything ok. Til now.
Because everthing works fine in the past, I did not control the Time Machine.
Today I wanna restore a File from my "Pictures" folder.
So I opened Time Machine.
Oops.
There I can only see the latest run.
Also in the timeline on the right side the only entries are TODAY and NOW.
I can not scroll into the past.
All windows behind the current window have a black titlebar.
In Mountain lion the titlebars are grey if there is data available
and the title contains the date of the backup.
What is the problem?
Is there a bug?
Did I something wrong?
Thanx in adv.

I didn't know this page.
But  you are right with "E2".
This solved my problem.
Thank you very much.

  • Can I move all data from time machine backup to another external drive & work from it?

Hi all, the harddrive on my macbook died (2nd time in a year) & I had a new one put in that's much smaller than the old one.  Can I move everything from my time machine backup onto a seperate external drive and work directly from that on my laptop/imac?  At the mo. I don't think time machine will recognise my computer as it's a new drive etc.  Thanks Jenny.

What exactly do you want to do?
Is it that you wish to extract an older version of some documents to edit, but leave the original intact?
You can Restore an older version from TM and choose not to replace the current one.
Or, do you wish to install the OS on your new drive, and migrate all the information from the TM backup to the new isntallation?
EDIT: Ok, re-reading your question, I think macjack probably has the right idea.
However, see Pondini's Time Machine FAQ # 16

  • Can't see photos from previous Time Machine backup

    Here is my issue:
I had two MacBook Pros (one old, one new).
I bought an external hard drive.
I backed up both the old and the new MacBook.
I wiped and sold my old MacBook.
I opened the backup of the old MacBook on the external hard drive in an effort to find my old photos.
On the external drive, I went to Backups.backupdb > Users > Pictures.
On the Pictures icon I see a red "caution" type icon.
I click on the folder and get a popup that says, "The folder pictures can't be opened because you don't have permission to see its contents."
How do I access all my photos that are in this "locked" folder?
    Thanks!!
    Jim

You do not directly access Time Machine backups - you use Time Machine to restore them - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

  • Migration Assistant not seeing OS X Server time machine backups

    Hello,
I use my OS X Server box as a time machine server, to which my other computers back up, just like you would to a time capsule.  However, I now want to use one of those backups to restore to a new computer.  When I try to use migration assistant to do this, it sees my server machine, but it says there are no backups on it.  I noticed on the hard drive the server uses to back up the clients, the sparse bundles are saved under a "Shared Items" folder, unlike what happens if you do time machine backups connected directly to an external disc with USB, where the backups directory is at the top level directory.
Any ideas what could be going on here?  As it is it looks like no time machine backups managed by my server machine are usable by migration assistant.

In the sidebar of a Finder window on the client, select the icon representing the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) At the top level of the volume are folders with these names, among others:
    Applications
    Library
    System
Enter Time Machine and select the most recent snapshot, which is behind the frontmost window. Are those folders present in the snapshot?

  • Can Not Use Air Disk for Time Machine Backup

I have my Lacie 750 GB drive plugged into my AEBS, and it shows up on my network. I can not get Time Machine to recognize it so I can backup. I would appreciate any specific setup info. anyone has that can fix this problem.
    Thanks -
    Dudley Warner

Have you installed the most recent Airport updates? BTW, while the update now allows AEBS with a tethered drive to be used for TimeMachine Apple doesn't support it. So far I've had no trouble, backing up and restoring, but that doesn't mean there couldn't be hidden problems waiting to get us. Also, since Apple doesn't support it, if there are problems, we are on our own.

  • Not enough space on my new SSD drive to import my data from time machine backup, how can I import my latest backup minus some big files?

I just got a new 256GB SSD drive for my mac, I want to import my data from time machine backup, but its larger than 256GB since it used to be on my old optical drive. How can I import my latest backup keeping out some big files on the external drive?

    Hello Salemr,
When you restore from a Time Machine back up, you can tell it to not transfer folders like Desktop, Documents. Downloads, Movies, Music, Pictures and Public. Take a look at the article below for the steps to restore from your back up.

  • Final user's can not see the data due to limited authorization.

We have created a InfoSet with three info Objects, 0Account, 0Costcenter and 0COMP_CODE. 0Costcenter have an attribute retail location  0RT_LOCATIO.
0RT_LOCATIO is an authorization relevant object. We as consultants can execute the infoset properly, but final user's with limited authorizations can not see the data because of authorization failier
We hae several options to solve the issue, deleselect the auth. flag in the infoobject; delete the infoobject from the attributes of the cost center or create an authorization object and assign it to the final user's profile. But we don't want to go that way.
My question is, is there any way to avoid including this attribute in the infoset definition? We are not using it in the query and we don't need it, so if we could delete it from the infoset (in the same way you add or delete infoobjects from an Infocube) without changing the cost center aster data, we will have our problem solved.
Does anyone how to do this (if possible)?
    Thanks in advance!

Just do two things to find the authorization check failed for that user.
    1. Execute SU53 output and find out the authoirzation check failed. If yes, please send that to BASIS Team.
    2. Next one, switch on the authorization trace in ST01 and ask that user to see that data. if the user is failed with authorization issue. switch off the trace in ST01 and find out the issue.
Do this way, if it is not successful you can go for any other alternate way.
    Hope this would help you.

    Regards,

    Hi Sushant,
It is possible to see the 3 DSO tables data in through SE16. May be you do not have authorization to see data through SE16.

  • HT201250 (1) Where is the "Time Machine menu" and the choice to "Enter Time Machine" (mentioned in the "Restoring data from Time Machine backups" section)?

    1) Where do I find the "Time Machine menu" and the choice to "Enter Time Machine" (as mentioned in the "Restoring data from Time Machine backups" section in the Mac Support article "Mac Basics: Time Machine")?
    2) How would I restore e.g. a particular photo from a backup I made with Time Machine? I can see how this is done with Word documents, but can't see how to do it with photos?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    1. The Time Machine icon is on the menu bar.
    2. If you want to do that with individual photos, it's the same way as for documents. If you want to do it with iPhoto, you have to restore the whole iPhoto library, not only one photo

  • Can Yosemite read a snow leopard Time Machine backup

Can Yosemite read a snow leopard Time Machine backup. Once I installed Lion over SL and it was a disaster since I could not get any docs or photos back, so had to put SL back on my old iMac.
Will 10.10 give the same problem or is there a way to migrate the old 10.6.8 data to 10.10?
    Thanks

Yes, you can do that. The only limitation is that you can't encrypt the backup volume.

Can I set up 2 different time capsule backups? one for the lion partition and one for the snow leopard partition?
No, you can't partition a Time Capsule's internal HD.  Both partitions will back up to the same sparse bundle. keeping the backups for each partition separate.
Time Machine will not take the two OSX partitions as two different computers, but for best results, exclude the Snow Leopard drive from backups on the Lion partition, and exclude the Lion partition from backups on the Snow Leopard partition.
There may be some files on the Lion partition that Time Machine on Snow Leopard won't like, among other things.  See #10 in  Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions for details.

  • HT201250 Circle and cross through iTunes icon afte the seagate hard drive replaced and restored data from time machine backup.

Circle and cross through iTunes icon: had the seagate hard drive replaced and restored data from time machine backup. Why does the iTunes icon have a circle and cross through it? As though incomplete? tried everything and still Circle and cross through iTunes icon.

No it isn't something you'd find on the computer, it has to be custom installed from the 10.6 installer disc or Software Update if it wasn't before.  It allows you to use older PowerPC applications on your Mac.   On the other hand double check the version of iTunes you have does not require 10.7 minimum either.

  • The file could not be saved in folder "Time Machine Backups"

I've tried to setup TM with several external drives (USB and Firewire) and I get the same results... the file "xxx" could not be saved in folder "Time Machine Backups". Any ideas?

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
If that's exactly what the message says, it's a new one. If it's actually "An error occurred while copying files to the backup volume" or "Aborting backup because indexing a file failed," see #C3 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
If not, see #A1 there for a handy widget that shows the backup messages from your logs. Download and install it, then copy and post all the messages for one backup attempt here.

  • Not latest Wiki Data after Time Machine Restore

System Info: Mac OS X 10.9.5 and Server Admin 3.1.2
    I'm using the Wiki.
I had to restore the entire System from a Time Machine Backup.
All data actual data and documents are restored. But the wiki data are not the newest. The latest data displayed are from June.
When i take a look /Library/Server/Wiki/Database.xpg there are man Backup files. The newest is from dec 8th (day before restore).
How can i restore these Database Backup Files that the Wiki is up-to-date again? Is there a way to find out why the Wiki contents are only up to june and not up to december?

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
I tried to restore my Time Machine data to a refurbished MacBook tonight. The data was transferred to the new computer, as I can see from the used hard drive space.
How did you do that? It sounds like you went into the "Star Wars" display, selected the internal HD, and clicked Restore. If so, that makes some sense, but Apple doesn't make it clear that isn't the way to do it.
The problem is, you can't restore OSX to the volume you're running from.
Unfortunately, you'll have to start over.
If you're restoring to the *+same Mac+* the backups were made from (after repairs, for example), do a "Full system restore" per #14 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
But if you have a new (to you) refurbished Mac, your best bet is to use +Setup Assistant.+ See #19 in the FAQ and start with the green box there.
