Can not select a destination Volume

Stuck on this one.. a macbook 1.88 intel I bought my wife has been giving me problems for the past couple of years.. would have to re-install OS, after crashes.. maybe four times in past 2 years.. will about four months ago I had to re-install again the OS from the orginal disks that came with the computer...
Well, just two weeks ago.. it when down all the way.. this time only the "grey screen of death".. I ordered a new hard disk.. upgraded to 160 gig.. but, after I started the unit back up from the first install disk.. there was no "volume" to install the OS!!.. I have tried repeatly, with Diskwarrior.. and with a couple of of other disk utilities but there is not disk!!
I had not used the "Apple Hardware Test" that is on the first install disk, figured I could get a code or some more information.
Well the "Test results" said there was nothing wrong with the unit!!!.. I then took the new hard disk out, as maybe it was a dud... and then put the old hard disk back in.. It comes back with the same results.. NO PROBLEMS with the hardware.
Well, I'm stuck.. if the hardware is ok, but I can install the software onto a functioning hard and/or hardware system.. where do I go next???

The disk will not show up in disk utilities either.. Plugged in an external firewire HD, and it showed up..
Was just using "terminal" still no disk.. it must be software? but how can it be software if the disk has not been formatted.. as it does not show up.. and the hardware test says the unit is good... with two different HD installed at different times??? using Apple "D" have tried S, V p-ram.. still a no show

thanks for that reply, after doing that I can not select this DD-view from sql-prompt anymore (which I don't wonder ;-). Can you tell me, what idea you had behind that test ?
I found another instance, where the procedure works and I will compare those privileges, but it's hard to sort out that complex structure of nested roles and sys_privs.
How ever, I will update here, when I found the missing privilege.

Can not select 'Show HD' in Finder Preferences

Just performed Data Migration on a new iMac Intel late 2011 from a 2 year old iMac Intel. For some reason, the Macintosh HD does not display on the desktop. If I go to Finder Preferences I can not select Hard Disks. The box is not selected, but If I try to click it, it will not stick. How do I fix that. Not much on the internet concering this peculiarity.

OK, try a couple of things. First is to do some resets, the first I'd recommend doing is restarting the computer in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. It's possible one is corrupt. Next is to reset the SMC and PRAM, each of these should be done 2x to ensure they work. Finally if that doesn't do it open Disk Utility (Applications - Utilities - Disk Utility) and Repair Disk Permissions 2x.
SMC RESET
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
PRAM RESET
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

Can not select an address from Contacts in Maverick

I'm able to access my address book contacts from Mail.
But when Contacts window is open, I can not select a contact (For, CC, Bcc Fields are in grey).
Is there anyone with suggestions?

It sounds like you have Soundtrack Pro installed but you cannot select your external audio device as an input. I recommend the troubleshooting steps from the article named:

Update to the latest software versions
From the Apple () menu, choose Software Update and make sure that you have the most recent updates for your versions of Soundtrack Pro 3, QuickTime, Compressor, Pro Application Support, and other important system files. Note: Be sure the application is in the Applications folder and is named Soundtrack Pro before running Software Update.

Try a different Multitrack Project or Audio File Project
Sometimes project files can become damaged, causing unexpected behavior in Soundtrack Pro. To create a fresh project, choose File, then New and select Multitrack Project or Audio File. Test to see if the issue is resolved in the new project.
Delete the User Preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Soundtrack Pro to its original settings. This will not impact your project files. To reset your Soundtrack Pro user preference settings to their original state:
Quit Soundtrack Pro if it is open.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu bar.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.

You don't have to remove everything that was installed with Soundtrack Pro, so follow the steps below to completely reinstall a fresh copy of Soundtrack Pro. Note: Make sure that you have your installation discs handy before beginning.

Open the Terminal application and enter the following commands one at a time and an administrator password when prompted. Note: The commands are case sensitive.

Then, reinstall Soundtrack Pro and Compressor using the following steps:
Open the Applications folder. Drag the Soundtrack Pro and Compressor applications to the Trash.
Insert your Logic Studio or Final Cut Studio installation disc and install Soundtrack Pro.
When finished installing, choose the Apple () menu, then Software Update to update your software to the latest version.
Open Soundtrack Pro to verify that the issue has been resolved.

ADF 11g can not select and copy data from cell of readonly table in IE

In ADF 11g, when render view object as readonly table with Single RowsSelection, using IE browser can not select and copy data from the cell, but it work in firefox.
is it a bug?

I don't know the answer but I have the same thing happen. I have two external drives I use for backup. Sometimes it can see one and sometimes another. Then sometimes it can't see either one. I will take one out for a while then plug it back in and then it may see it. Maybe it's a cable issue or something but I will be curious to hear what someone more knowledgeable says.

Can not select a PDF file in the file uploader window after clicking the Browse... button for a file type input element.

After upgrading to 5 (this worked in 4) I can not select a PDF file in the File Upload dialog that appears when I click the Browse button next to an HTML file type input element. The specific HTML element source code has the attribute: ACCEPT="image/*". I can select image files such as jpg, png, tiff, etc. But not PDF. This worked great in Furefox 4 and works in the latest version of Safari.
The HTML code for the form element is:
INPUT TYPE="file" NAME="file_1" ACCEPT="image/*" SIZE=35
The File Upload dialog lists all files with PDF extension as dimmed and not selectable in Firefox 5.

Unfortunately we couldn't solve the problem. Our IT specialist checked it with SAP directly. SAP doesn't support the SAP KW solution anymore. Therefore we checked-in the document in ".doc"-Format.

That is priceless!!! Thanks! I sure needed a good laugh after spending/wasting hours & days trying to either get my c6280 to give up on its Ink System Failure fixation, or find a decent replacement. Unfortunately I need the Smart Web Printing feature that I guess only HP has, or I'd try a different brand. And now even HP has very few models with that available.
My error msg is a little different from those previously stated, but close: 0xc18a0201. Even tho there were frustrations with my c6280, I did like several of its unique features which are hard to find now under $100. I hate how HP (& I suppose other brands also) are CONSTANTLY changing models & then of course ink cartridges.
Oh heavens, I've had the c6280 a whopping 2 1/2 years! I'm sure they want us poor slobs to have to buy a new one every year & a day! To say nothing of the exorbitant prices for ink. And now if this one is really dead in the water, I have SIX unused #02 ink cartridges which I cannot return---I got them in a combo pack, & for some reason have wound up with THREE lite pink & THREE lite blue cartridges, while having to buy extras of the other colors, that ran out before the others!!! Yeah, & what's with that not being able to print in BLACK if a color runs out????
Anyway I really loved your essay! It's a classic! And says it all! I hate that we have to be 'slaves' to the electronic 'wonders'!!!

Forms services after reboot, can not select to start

I started my infrastructure successfully, then went to start up my middle tier and noticed that my forms services checkbox in system components was grayed out. I can not select it to start it.

Hi,
A grayed-out box for Forms services is normal.
The Forms and Reports servlets runs in OC4J_BI_Forms container. To restart Forms, restart the OC4J_BI_Forms container using EM or the command line opmnctl tool.
I have one machine running a 10.2.0.2 infrastructure and mid-tier where Forms shows down in EM but OC4J_BI_Forms shows up. Forms works normally - have not been able to figure out why Forms status is wrong. It works normally on other machines, so it is probably a communication problem with EM and not a problem with Forms itself.

I have tried to select one of the suggestions that google give me for my search but FF it wont let me. I have type everything out in full. I hate FF4 it is rubbish. I loved firefox before this one came out but now I am seriously thinking of going over to google chrome.

One of the reasons I abandoned Chrome in favour of Firefox was due to the "black band of doom" that appears on the top of the Google page - so setting up my homepage to google.co.uk just puts that back in the ugly spotlight.
I was, though, pleasantly surprised to see a Google search bar on the Mozilla Firefox Start Page (without the black band and Google options that I am just not interested in) but bitterly disappointed that it is Google.fr (due to my ISP being French).
I shall learn to live with Yahoo (or worse case scenario, Bing!)

When I select the Add function, the entry file names come up in a new box. The select "ALL" button works, but you can not select individual entries.

Select a destination volume blank and HD not showing up in disc utility

I have sold my PowerBook G4 and was trying to wipe the hard drive so that the buyer would not have access to any deleted files. I used the install disc and clicked erase free space. Now, I have tried to install the CD Mac OS X and it gets up to "Select a destination" and this is blank with no option to click anything except "Go back". When I open up desk utility, my HD does not appear there. The HD was working fine before I clicked on "erase free space" earlier.
Any suggestions?

When you say that the HDD isn't showing up in Disk Utility, do you mean that it isn't showing up on the left hand side of the app like in this picture?
