I'm not sure I know what you mean by 'what settings are you using in the accounts part of mail preferences', but I'll give you as much information as I can in the hopes that some of it is responsive.
In "preferences" I select "accounts" and there are 3 listed:
'personal gmail' (IMAP)
'business gmail' (IMAP)
'Yahoo' (POP)
For each of the above, the "Account Information" tab gives:
description: [username]
email address: [correctly reflects my address]
full name: [my name]
Incoming mail server: imap.gmail.com
user name: [my username]
password: [*** - I've re-entered to ensure it is my true password]
outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com:username
Is it all in the same format on the iphone?
This is the same information for the 2 gmail accounts, with the exception of the usernames differing. If I click "server settings" at the bottom, it reflects the outgoing mail server "smtp.gmail.com" server port 25, my correct user name and password.
Again, different names for the different accounts, right? And this is the same port etc. as you put into the iphone
All of the above information matches what I input into my iPhone, and it has worked fine since day 1, so I don't understand the malfunction.
Open /Applications/Utilities/Console. Make sure console.log and system.log are open (or see the File menu).
Try to send an email.
Look for new lines in the log files (it should scroll down automatically so the newest lines are at the end of the log at the bottom of the window). What do you see? (Erase or substitute for any personal info before posting.)
Do you use any firewall software or have you used third-party software or Terminal to configure the builtin firewall?

can not send be-mail os10.9.4 server offline !!

    Hey there mikeneiris,
It sounds like you are not able to send any emails because the account is showing as offline. I recommend these steps from the following article to help you get that going again:
Mail (Mavericks): If a mailbox is offline
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14925?viewlocale=en_US
To take an account online, click the lightning bolt icon. Or choose Mailbox > Online Status > Take [account name] Online, or Mailbox > Take All Accounts Online.
If you can’t take an account online, make sure you’re connected to the Internet. If a warning icon appears after the account name, click it for more information.
    Use Connection Doctor
Some mailbox names can appear dimmed if you don’t have permission to access them, such as “public” mailboxes on a server, or if the mail server is unavailable.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Can not send e-mails from account but can receive

I have my e-mail account with ATT Yahoo.
I received an account verification notice yesterday from ATT and I responded and they said I was verified.
However after I did that I could not send e-mails from my Imac desktop but I am receiving them.
I spend 4 and a half hours, yes 41/2 hours with both Apple Care and ATT and they could not correct the problem. Both discussions were with upper tier support personnel.
Here are some facts that make this an odd issue:
    (1)
I have other e-mail boxes from ATT and they can send and receive e-mails.
    (2)
MY laptop can still send and receive e-mails from the e-mail account that is only receiving with my Imac.
    (3)
All the settings are exactly the same and both Apple Care and ATT checked them.
Is there anybody out there that may have an answer ?
Both Apple Care and ATT blamed each other.
My concern is that today I received another e-mail trying to verify my e-mail address for another e-mail address from ATT.
I called ATT and they did not know why, I DID NOT open it up and trashed it.
ATT has put a filter on my other e-mail accounts and hopefully that will end any problems with them.
The account that has the issue is my main account and I cannot trust leaving it and am trying to avoid having to change it.

Hi Rachel, For what it will be worth, I was like a dog with a bone about this, so I decided to give it another go. I have success on both boxes. Here is what I did, I warn you now it was a lengthy process. Before you begin download all the upgrade steps from X.5.0 to X.5.6 as single stages ( for me the combo's did not work) and have them ready to use.
1st Backup all your mail to CD/DVD not on the box. Check for any unsent mails anywhere in the box and then throw out all of the mail bits that are anywhere on the system in any folder. 2nd Install & Archive, 3rd Start up from Install DVD and check/set permissions, reboot. Enter all your ISP details to mail, see if you can send a mail to yourself. If not dump all the mail you tried and the .plists, reboot and install next update in the series, enter all details as before, try and send etc. If this fails dump again and reboot install next update etc.
I started at X.5.1 and got to vX.5.4 before I got a result in that sys asked me if this server will do, I said yes and I got mail out. The server name was different that was offered but when all was over it showed as the correct one that it should be on port 995. I must add that I had the spinning cog wheel for quite some minutes before anything happened. I continued on this way for the rest of the updates. 1x1 until v.6 was reached. That was only on the G4, I now had to do it all again on the MacPro. This one was not so co-operative in that I had to do it twice, but now it also has Mail running. It is funny though that I had to reach X.5.4 on both machines before it came right. On the G4 I was using a retail disc and on the Intel the supplied for discs.
Others on here may have a better and quicker way, but for me this did work. I am sure that there is a problem in either the mail app itself or the production of the Master DVD's.
    Whatever, good luck.

  • Can not send e-mails after iOS5 upgrade

I upgraded my wifes iPhone to iOS 5. After the upgrade she can receive e-mails but can not send them. All the composed e-mails end up in her outbox. I click on the error and it says "The connection to the outgoing server "smtp.***.com" failed. Additional Outgoing Mail Servers can be configured in Setting>Mail, Contacts, Calenders."
    Anyone have any suggestions?

Go to Settings => Mail,Contacts,Calenders => select the account and may have to click account again => should be viewing username and password, Scroll down and Select - Outgoing Server => Tap on Primary Server => try entering Username and Password in there even though it says optional... Also try port 25 if that doesn't work and try toggling SSL on/off if that doesn't work.

  • I can not send e-mail

Comcast is my isp. I have a .mac account. I have been able to send e-mail before . I have a mac mini hooked up to my tv, and to a wireless router but it is hard wired to the router. No airport. Out of nowhere i am getting an error message that reads:
This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
The connection to the server "smtp.mac.com" on port 25 timed out.
    can anyone please help me????

Ok, I got one for ya. I have a comcast email account that I have set up fr my gf in her apple mail program. everything works fine (port 25) when she is at my house connected to my high speed internet provided by COMCAST.
However, when she is at her house and connected to her network that is a CHARTER service, all **** breaks loose. she cannot send mail at all. she can receive mail thru apple mail, but no can do on sending email. I have changed the smtp port to 587, 80, 2525 but no luck at all. I even read a post to change my server to smtp.charter.net even though it is a comcast email account. Well, that didnt work either.
So now I am stuck, email can only be sent thru apple mail when the macbook is connected to the COMCAST service at my house. When she is at her house, it has to be web based to send email. Of course it wouldnt be a problem if it were the other way around, but she obviousl uses the macbook at her house most of the time so it would be nice to be able to fix this for her.
anyone got a fix for this?
    thanks ahead of time!

  • Weird problem-w/ aol mail,i can recieve and reply, but can not send new mail

everything is set up, i read the instructions on that site to help me set it up, im recieving mail, and i can even reply, but when i try to send new mail it rejects the smtp. outgoing mail server...any suggestions?

Does resetting include deleting and recreating the AOL SMTP server?
Deleting an SMTP server requires selecting Edit Server List from the SMTP server selection pop-up menu.
ISP is short for Internet Service Provider. Are you using AOL as your ISP for connecting to the internet?
Unless AOL is used as your ISP, your ISP may have made recent changes regarding the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network. Most, if not all ISPs have restrictions regarding the use of SMTP servers outside of their network on Port 25. Using Port 587 usually resolves any such restrictions but some ISPs block the use of all SMTP servers outside of their network regardless. These restriction are in place as part of an overall effort to prevent or reduce spam eminating from the ISP's domain.
Since you have switched back and forth between every option available, I suggest deleting and recreating AOL's SMTP server first (if you haven't already done so) and if this didn't work, deleting and recreating this AOL account in Mail.
If neither works and AOL is not your ISP used for connecting to the internet and you are accessing an email account and SMTP server provided by your ISP, try selecting/using your ISP's SMTP server to send mail with your AOL account.
If this works, I would contact your ISP's technical support to inquire about any recent changes implemented regarding the use of SMTP servers outside of their network or put in another way, using an SMTP server that is not provided by your ISP.
The last resort is targeting the Mail.app preference file which stores all account information and general Mail.app preferences.
I try to avoid saying never in regards to computers but I doubt your hard drive replacement has anything to do with this.

  • I can not send e-mail as i get an authentication rejected message

I just purchased a new IMac and had no problem sending e-mails for a few days until after I had been asked for my server password and entered the wrong one by mistake. Shortly after that when Itry to send an e-mail I get a message "Authentication rejected, Try Later." Trying later has the same result. I checked with my server and there is no problem there. In fact I am able to send e-mails using my I-Pad so something needs to be corrected on my I-Mac. What should I do?

    Hello miltonfrombellevue,
To troubleshoot the issue of not being able to send email from Mail on your iMac, please follow the directions in the article below.

  • Can not send e-mail messages at times.

Most of the time I am able to send e-mail but sometimes I get a message that says cannot send message using the server smtp.charter.net I do not need a password for this server and when I run diag I get green connection for both the pop server as well as smpt server. However the message will not send. Any ideas other then deleteing the message, because everything work fine after deleteing it.

Yes, I got a green light for the server not sure if its port 25 though did not look. I deleted the message so I have to wait for it to happen again. This is an iMac 24 inch so it does not move around. I have it connected to the wireless home network and all other wireless routers are also encripted so it sould not switch routers.
I was thinking that there might have been a bad char in the message that caused the trouble. Other thoughts, is that its a group message that hangs the server from time to time. Any ther ideas please let me know. Thanks.

  • Can not send e mail

I've been using this mac for about 3 years and been unable to send e mails since updated to 10.3.9 my mail server is .mac so the settings are all correct... what to do now ?

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
This has more than likely resulted from changes your ISP has made, than from the update to OSX. Many ISP are taking steps to block the use of any SMTP on Port 25, other than the one they provide.
Who is your ISP, and do you also have an email account provided by them, in addition to your .mac account?
    More info, please, and see:

  • For the last 4 months I can not send any mail from my mac mail account. It will receive but not send. I have to use my Yahoo or Gmail account to send anything. When I forward or try to send a new email, a box wants my password. IT won't take my password.

A box comes up after I try and send an email wanting my password. I put the password in, the box disappers, then shows up again empty wanting my password. The same password is used to access Apple but Mac Mail will not accept it. It just stop sending about four months ago.

It is possible that you are in a transition period of time when Apple is shutting down the mobileME website.  In fact, Mobileme.com is closed at this moment.  I can see where you might be receiving email traffic and yet being unable to send email out using the mobileme/ mac dot com emaill address.  Check this article out from Gigaom.

  • Can not send e-mail on Mail 2.1

I can receive all mail but when I try to send I get the message:
This message could not be delivered and will reamin in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
The sender address [email protected] was rejected by the server.
I have just migrated to this mac from an older one. I have loaded the operating system and all applications on a clean hard drive. The mail settings are the same as they were on my old mac and match the settings the I currently use successfully on my PC including ports, password, etc.
    G5 2.5 dual   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The outgoing server needs a password. My mistake.

  • For all who receive but can not send e-mail:

I just found Apple's: Apple - Support - Mail Setup Assistant link:
    http://www.apple.com/support/macosx/mailassistant/
followed it and problem solved. Apple is simply the best!
    W.W.

Thanks SO much for stepping up to help. Mail Connection Doctor says:
    red dot status:
    Account Name: smtp.att.yahoo.com
Details: Could not connect to this SMTP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account prereferences. Also verify that the server supports SSL. If it does not, uncheck the "Use SSL" checkbox in the Advanced tab of Account preferences.
I am able to receive and send mail when I use my Safari Browser to go directly to ATT.net and login to Yahoo. Since I can receive mail using Apple's MAIL program, that tells me the settings for Outgoing Ports must be bad. I changed the Outgoing Port to 587 and checked the box indicating SSL. I tried to send a message and got the following:
Unable to verify SSL server smtp.att.yahoo.com
Mail was unable to verify the identity of this server, which has a certificate issued to "smtp.att.yahoo.com". The error was:
There is no root certificate for this server.
You might be connecting to a computer that is pretending to be "smtp.att.yahoo.com", and putting your confidential information at risk. Would you like to continue anyway?
Any suggestion to get around the above?
Thanks in advance for helping as Yahoo's tech in India is NO help.

  • Can not delete e-mail in Mac Mail 8.1

I have my e-mail accounts setup as IMAPS. All seems to function correctly. Except when I delete an e-mail in any of my accounts within the INBOX, they either pop right back up or after a few minutes show back up. If I delete it again, it usually stays away. This is happening on all my Macs, but not on any iSO devices. I have tried different settings in Mailbox Behaviors, but get same results. Any ideas what I have set wrong?

    Not one guess even?
