Can not startup in alternative modes
Machine will not respond to any key combination on startup, e.g., Command-C, Command-S, Option, etc. When holding down the keys after the chime, nothing happens. Screen remains black and can not hear hard drive activity, even after holding for several minutes. Bit of a pain as I can not start from another drive without using the Startup menu in System Preferences.

By chance, is your keyboard a non-Apple one? If so, not all non-Apple keyboards are compatible with startup keyboard commands.
Also, if the keyboard is a wireless one which requires software in order to work, it won't be active until that software has loaded.
If your keyboard is not plugged into the Mac itself, such as it is plugged into a hub (free-standing or monitor), experiment with plugging the keyboard into one of the Mac's ports.
If you have any additional items plugged into a port on the keyboard, try disconnecting it. I once experienced problems with an optical mouse overloading the keyboard's built-in hub; connecting the mouse to a different port solved that.

AllanUsing Safe Mode. What happens with a normal boot - same thing? If so then your startup volume needs to be reformatted and you need to reinstall OS X.
Install or Reinstall OS X from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should install the version of OS X that you had installed. -

The Sun Java System Application Server could not start:
Possible reasons:
1.port conflict
2.Incorrect server configuartion
3.corrputed deployed application
my java Studio Creator version: 2004Q2 Update9
I have used this tool for three weeks , in the frist week. everything is ok.
no probroblem happened. in the second week ,sometimes my JSC can not startup, so I restarted my JSC. and it can work again. later, the same problem happened again. when I restarted my JSC , it sill does not work, so I have to restart my computer and it startup successfully,
two days later, the same problem happened again. I restarted my computer , it still did not work. so I have to change my port number in the domain.xml. sometimes it woks well, but sometimes I can't not startup.
in the third week, no matter what I do, the problem can not be solved.
some of my colleagues don't have such problem. but some of them have the same problem. when I run my project on the computer that don't have such problem , it can startup. I don't know why, just a little weird.
till now , no one in our company can tell why this problem happened.
and I believe that anybody who use JSC will encountered this error sooner or later.
who can tell me why will this problem happen? and where can I find some related imformation about this problem. thanks!!!!!!

To kill the appserver manually you can go to the command prompt

i have a mac osx version 10.6.8 no windows installed and i am trying to install a program but keep getting can not run in dos mode ( the disk says on back works on intel mac with parallels or vm fusion) is this program not compatible with my mac?
You run Windows in Parallels or Fusion. Then in Windows you install the program.

My iBook G4 (OS 10.10) is refusing to complete startup beyond grey apple. I've used Disk Utility, Disk Warrior, and TechTool Deluxe, yet I can only startup in Safe Mode. Only other symptom that I have been aware of is very slow response for about a week running up to startup failure. What do I do next?

Can not startup in single-user mode
I can not get my MacBook to startup in single-user mode. I am holding Command-S at startup but it starts up normally.
I also tried starting up in verbose mode by holding Command-V. That didn't work either. I then used the Terminal command to make it start up every time in verbise mode. That worked but I don't really want it doing it every time.
So then I thought it was because I have a firmware password set. I then started up holding the Option key so I can enter the password. The password field popped up as it should, I entered the password, then held down the Command-S keys to startup in single-user mode. No dice.
Can anyone tell me why I can not get single-user or verbose startup modes working?Because entering the password into the Startup Manager doesn't disable it or any of the other functions it provides. You need to use the Terminal method or take the password off.

a. Are you in the Elements Organizer 12 workspace, right clicking the photo's thumbnail, and selecting Edit with Premiere Elements Editor
or
b. Something else.
Is there an error message that results when you try to switch "from organizer mode to editor mode" and cannot?
When you mention "....to edit a file (photo)", I wonder if you are not trying to get to Photoshop Elements 12 Editor, not Premiere Elements 12 Editor, from the Elements Organizer 12.
Please supply a step by step of what you are doing so that we can be sure that we are in sync on the details that we are using to work through your issue.

DML Fetch Mode is an ARF (fetch) process option that is deprecated in APEX 4.x. Setting it for ARP (DML) processes is unnecessary, so you can safely ignore it.
The appearance of the radio group in ARF processes is subject to a bug in APEX 4.2.0: +{message:id=10713985}+
However it should not be appearing in an ARP (DML) definition at all as it was only an option for fetch behaviour. -

How can i startup database?1. connect to machine hosting database instance as Oracle software owner

Buying a New phone but can not decide on which mod...
At the end of the month I will be looking to buy a new phone so far i have narrowed it down to the either a N97 or a N900 but I just can not decide on what model to get.
Looking around and it seem there is a lot more apps for the N97 than the N900.
Is there any faults with the Memo software or the symbian os?
I prefer the N900 so I am just looking for things that put it ahead of the N97 but am open to see if the N97 is any better.

Here're my thoughts on the N97 v N900..
The N97 is over a year old. It is Nokia's flagship phone.. and it is WOEFULLY poor.. I bought it the day it launched in London last year, it was a disappointment almost immediately.. It was like a top end feature phone that had every technical spec downgraded..
It's internal app space is SO limited, I have about 8 megs free.. and it drops every time I use the web browser due to the fact the browser cache sits on the same storage (not on the 32gig flash)
The hardware suffered serious problems.. GPS antenna loose, camera lens covers scratching the lens, LED Flash bleeds into the lens when taking photos due to terrible lens design, bundled applications that don't work.. ever.. like Quick Office (has never worked.. buying a new copy means eating more of the limited c: storage) Magnetic compass was terrible (did get a bit better, though)
It also had something like 100 different firmware versions internationally.. The UK version lagged severely.. it even made the Guardian papers.. terrible phone..
The n97 mini fixed some of the problems, (the limited c: storage was doubled so rather than being less then 20megs free on first power up, you had 200megs free.. but still) but it lacked the features that were supposed to make it good.. like the 32gig storage and fm transmitter iirc
Now.. the N900.. this is my day to day phone..Again, I bought it the day it launched in the UK.. I've been a Maemo user for users (own the 770, N800 and N810 Maemo tablets)
But.. Maemo is end of life, MeeGo is the future of development.
Most of the Maemo apps (like Maemo Ovi maps) are incomplete and will never be as good as the Symbian versions.. Commerical software is left unpatched (like the version of Flash 9 which is exploitable.. no bug fixes there!)
Nokia have said Meego won't be coming to the N900 (officially)..
This is different to other major manufacturers.. like SonyEricsson bringing Android 2.1 to the X10, HTC bringing Android 2.2 to the Desire and other devices, Motorola bringing Android 2.2 to the Milestone / Droid..
Top end handsets *GET* new oses these days.. Nokia handsets, don't.. infact they seem to get mothballed soon after launch..
So..
I wouldn't buy the N97, it was terrible.. even by Nokia's own admission..
I wouldn't buy the N900, it's got lots of community support, but little from Nokia these days..
I know this sounds bitter, buut.. you can't help feeling let down.. top end devices need more investment from their manufacturers..
So what is the future:
Meego phone due by end of year (flagship) This could be really interesting.. Remember the N900 is not a flagship phone.. the Meego phone will be .. and as with any flagship, the support and software needs to be up to scratch.. Ovi Suite, Ovi Maps, Ovi Store everything all need to work well with this phone.. if they don't then its kind of pointless.. Ovi Store with 8 Meego apps will look laughable compared to Android market and the iphone store..
Symbian^3 on the N8. This will be a flagship phone too.. (erm? isn't the Meego phone later this year going to replace that) So.. this will be a very short lived flagship phone running Symbian^3.. possibly the only handset to do so... since all new ones will be Symbian^4... So, this feels a bit short lived.. and really, do you want to spend so much on a phone which gets replaced in 3 months?
I'm not buying another Symbian phone.. I will be getting the next Meego phone.. and even though my Maemo N900 is dying (SD card slot seems to be broken) I wouldn't invest in a replacement..
If you have to buy Nokia now, get a really cheap one.. then buy a better "next generation" one later.. -

Please try to modify your PATH setting in your environment variables and move the "C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.8\bin" in front of "C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.3.1\bin"; Then everything is ok.

Central instance can not startup when i install the SAP /DB2 9 env
Hi,
could anybody help me? I just installed the SAP /db2 V9.1 on HACMP cluster envrioment . By now , the SCS, ASCS, DB instance installation have been OK, Unfortunately , an
error occurs when I installed the CI.
the error message is that "ABAP Database db must be started on remote server " i check the trans.log , the error message is "DbSlConnect to 'AE1' as 'sapae1' failed" the detail informatioin ,please check the the following trans.log. but i can startup and activate the database, i can connect to db with sapae1 and sapae1 user with password.
first i install the DB2 software and db2 instance with the virtual hostname dbae1. i found the hostname in the db2cfg.log is not virtual hostname but physical name. i don't know what happens. In order to keep the hostname the same, i installed the CI on sapaix01, the error message is the same as before. i have upgrade the sap kernel and reinstall the CI again, the error is the same as before too Could you give me some suggestion.

For CI, and DI are not a Single point of failure , so the DI and CI
are out of cluster. The cluster enviroment just includes the

have you tried to connect on the command line (instead of using R3trans) ?
db2 connect to AE1 user sapae1 using .....
If this works and you have verified that the DB2DB6EKEY is set properly, use dscdb6up to update the password in the password file dscbd6.conf.
Then try again to use R3trans to connect.
