Can older G5 IMacs be upgraded to giagbit ethernet

We're moving our office and having new Categroy 6 cable pulled. Also buying a couple more G5 iMacs (isight) with gigabit ethernet capabilities. Can my older machines be upgraded to to support 10/100/1000? Thanks for any insights you may have.
G5 iMac G4 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4)

Nope, your older G5 iMacs do not have an upgradeable Ethernet port. They support 10/100 BaseT Ethernet.
Of course the question that comes to mind, is there any reason, other then your infrastructure supporting 1000 BaseT that you need the capabilities?

  • Can my old iMac be upgraded for more memory and higher processor speed?

I admit it - I'm not a computer geek.  I don't know much about how they work but am proficient in using them.  I have an older model iMac.  The specs are:
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name: iMac
      Model Identifier: iMac6,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
      Number Of Processors: 1
      Total Number Of Cores: 2
      L2 Cache: 4 MB
      Memory: 1 GB
      Bus Speed: 667 MHz
      Boot ROM Version: IM61.0093.B07
      SMC Version (system): 1.10f2
    System Version: Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549)
I get the SBBOD all of the time no matter what.  I've tried all of the suggestions to resolve that issue but they don't work.  Even when only one program is open at a time it does it.  The speed of getting anything accomplished has been dramatically reduced over time.  All of my software is up to date.  All I need to know is, if I take my iMac to an Apple store, can they upgrade the RAM or whatever is needed to make the SBBOD go away and make things work faster?  Sorry for sounding like a dummy here but I'm really not interested in how it works, just that it does work.
Thanks for any help you can give!

I did the etrecheck as suggested and here is what it came up with.  Does anything look suspect?

  • Can my 2007 iMac be upgraded to run Leopard and Adobe CS5?

I have an iMac I purchased in 2007, along with all new software. I now find I need to upgrade my software, but cannot also afford to buy a new computer. It's ridiculous that a 3 year old computer is obsolete. Especially at these prices.
Rant finished. Please help. Can I add memory, ram, a new video card? I'm a designer... not a mechanic. Apple just wants me to buy a new machine - they offer no help at all.
    Specs on iMac below.
    Model Name: iMac

    Thank you for any help!!!

    Hi ivyleaf
You can run either Leopard or Snow Leopard on your iMac.
+(I ran Leopard on my 4,1 Core Duo for over a year and now run Snow Leopard without issue)+
Apple no longer sells or updates Leopard, so if you want Leopard you will have to find a black Retail Leopard Upgrade Disk on E-Bay or somewhere like that.
2GB is enough for OS X, but I suggest that you upgrade to 4GB of RAM for CS5
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/5300DDR2S4GP/
then buy a Retail Snow Leopard Upgrade Disk for $29 and run that.

  • Can anyone help me with upgrading memory in my older iMac? I currently on have 1gb of memory so as you can imagine my machine is quite slow.

Can anyone help me with upgrading memory in my older iMac? I currently only have 1gb of memory so as you can imagine my machine is quite slow. I check in my system profiler and it shows I do have a memory slot open. It is using a DDR2 and I was told that the latest are DDR3 and I need to find out if I can run that on my model number. This info came from a tech guy at best buy.

That is what I needed.  You can upgrade to a maximum of 6gb of ram and need the following type:
200-pin PC2-6400 (800MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM.  You can easily find it online, here is an example: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/Intel_Core_2_Duo_PC2-6400

  • I have an older model iMac with Snow Leopard. Can I download the icloud? and if so where can I do that?

I have an older model iMac with Snow Leopard. Can I download the icloud? and if so from where can I do that?

iCloud requires OS X 10.7.2 or later, so you have to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion or Lion.
First, see if your Mac is supported > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs If it's supported, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. While Mountain Lion is downloading, you can make a backup of your data.
When the download finishes, the installer will show up, so follow the steps to upgrade Mac OS X. After upgrading, you will be able to log in iCloud in System Preferences > iCloud.
Also, see if your programmes are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com

  • I can't set up iCloud drive on my iMac after upgrading to Yosemite

I can't set up iCloud drive on my iMac after upgrading to Yosemite - iPhone and iPad are updated but both say my iMac isn't (even though it is running Yosemite).
My iMac is OS X Yosemite 10.10 (14A389), memory is 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 and storage capacity is 273.64 free of 999.35 GB.
When i go to System Preferences and click on iCloud. The iCloud Drive section is greyed out and says setting up and a spinning pin wheel. It stays like this the whole time. I have tried restarting the computer. i amanita sure what else to do to make it work. Any suggestion would be great.

I found another way to correct this...
    1)  Select Message, then go to Preferences,
    2)  a window will appear with 3 options, General, Accounts, Audio Video, don't be surprised when you see a video of yourself, your camera just turned on.
    3) Select Accounts (you may have several here)
    4) Select the account that has "iMessage" under the account name.  This may likely be your Apple ID  ****@me.com
    5) Look at what is checked under the "You can be reached for messages at:"
    6) Select the one account (or more if you like) and deselect the others
    7) Close the window and the problem goes away.
I'm not longer getting my sons iMessages.

Your signature shows you are running Mac OS X 10.7.1.
Is this a different computer than the 20" iMac?
And you can easily add the iCloud calendar to iCAl on an iMac not running Lion/iCloud.
You simply need to add a CalDav to your non-Lion iMac.
Easiest way is to open iCloud.com then Calendar and Share that calendar. It will send an email to that user with the address of the iCloud caldav calendar.
    See this -> http://computing.physics.harvard.edu/icloud
    Same works for Contacts/Address book.

Can my 2006 iMac running OS X 10.4.11 be upgraded to move my stuff to the cloud?

    Hi..
Sorry but no. iCloud requires a Mac running v10.7.2.
Read here >  Apple - iCloud - Learn how to set up iCloud on all your devices
If your Mac meets Lion's requirements:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
OSX v10.6.6 or later (V10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available spare
You may be able to upgrade your Mac to Lion.

  • Can't use photo stream on my iMac without upgrading iCloud Library?

I can't get my Photo stream to show up on my iMac since upgrading to Photos.
It seems that I have to buy storage for all my photos (18,000+) to get Photos to stream.
Works on my iPhone and iPad.
When I go to OS X preferences >iCloud Photos is unchecked.
When I try to check it, I get this message.
I have Library unchecked, so I should get streaming without signing up for P

    Did you enable PhotoStream

If they are the grey discs which came with the iMac, then they will be machine specific and will not work on the MBP anyway. You will need to purchase a retail copy of Snow Leopard from the Apple Store for about $29 and upgrade from that. I presume your MBP is Intel and not G4.

How can I remove the iPhoto upgrade to my iMac OSX 10.2.8? Can the upgrade return my library?

With respect, we'll need rather more detail than that.
In general, you can only roll back an upgrade to a library with a back up. No back up, no roll back.

No, unless you break something or install the wrong RAM, new RAM is not covered by warranty/AppleCare of course.

Can you retrieve ringtones that you bought on an older iphone whenever you upgrade to a newer iphone?

If you have bought your ringtones and synced to your computer, you should have a copy in the Tones library that you can sync to your new iPhone.
Unfortunately, you cannot redownload your ringtones from iTunes store as it is not treated as fair use rule that is applied to regular music.

  • Can I connect an older larger iMAC to my new iMAC and use it as a monitor?

I am very happy with my new 21.5" new iMAC.
However, I may keep my older 24" iMAC if I can get a way to use it as an additional monitor for my Photoshop work.
Is it possible, then to use the older, larger iMAC as a secondary monitor, the computer controlling the whole set up would be the new 21.5" iMAC with its 12 GB RAM?
If so, what is the procedure and way to connect both?
    Thanks in advance.

You would need to find a 3rd party dispay extender app to accomplish this. The results may or may not be acceptable to you.
