Can one automatically remove exact duplicates?

Using Itunes 10.2.2.12 on Windows XP
I have inadvertantly somewhere dupkicated most of the music in my library
Over 7k items appear in the "displaying duplicates"
Is there a way to get rid of them quickl;y without selecting each item individually?

HT2905 Is there a way to automatically delete exact duplicates in iTunes 11

Has anyone found a way to automatically delete Exact Duplicates from iTunes 11. As I read the instructions, it can only be done by comparing the songs with the same title, making sure that it is the same album, etc. Then I have been going through the duplicates and pressing CTRL in Windows to select the next duplicate song to delete. I have a very large library and this is going to take hours.
I guess I didn't get the instructions correctly when I backed up my Library to move from an old laptop to a new one. I am going to have to go back and read those again because this brand new HP is having problems like the past few that I have received from HP. I will never recommend an HP Product, I can tell you that.

When deduping use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks. If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.

How to automate removal of Duplicate files

Is there a way to automate the removal of duplicate files with LR2?
In my catalog of 62,000 files I have 7,300 that I believe are duplicates.
They are proprietary RAW files (CR2). I have the same files as DNG. At least I think I do.
My intention is to have all my RAW files as DNG only.

If you believe all of you CR2's are duplicates, just filter All Photographs by file type and delete all Raw's.
If you have unique CR2's (that have not DNG equivalents) you'll ned a third party utility that is able to detect duplicates ignoring the extension. Delete duplicates from drive, then use Synchronize Folder to remove missing files from catalog.

According to your description, my understanding is that you want to automatically delete the following documents links after the documents are deleted.
I tested the same scenario in my environment, and I got the same results as you got.
It is by design that the links will not be deleted automatically when the documents are deleted.
We need to click Stop following to clear the links.

How do I automatically remove 'true' duplicates from my 160gb ituneslibrary

I have moved my 160 gb library between external hard drives (all my cd.s) but now see two copies of each song. I cannot possibly manually remove all the duplicates. Since I also have more tahn one version of several pieces of music these are seen as duplicates but may be by different artists thes i would not want to remove. Plus there are some files that I seem to have lost - but which I still have on my ipod and which I would not want to lose if I did an automatic synch since I could not get them back (the cd's are in the UK or Portugal or have been given away and were all legitimate!!)

Removing iTunes duplicate files

I'm not sure exactly how it happened, but most of my songs in iTunes have a duplicate file. For example, when I select "Show song file" the folder where the songs are stored looks like the following. The file ending ..1 is the one that is being used in each case.
01 How Am I Different 1.mp3
01 How Am I Different.mp3
02 Nothing is Good Enough 1.mp3
02 Nothing is Good Enough.mp3
...and so on
First, any ideas how this might have happened? I do remember consolidating the library sometime ago - might that have done it?
Secondly, how can I safely remove the duplicate files without corrupting my library or losing music?

I've got over 900 dupes like this. I looked at each pair, and the only difference is the modification date. All mp3 tags are the same, as are the compression params and the Fairplay params.
In my case these dupes were created when I imported large partions of an almost-but-not-quite identical library from another computer, in attempt to do a manual sync between two iTunes libraries on two different machines.
iTunes seems to be a bit too conservative in it's criteria for detecting differences during an import. Clashing mp3 tags is reasonable, but clashing mod dates when there's no other differences is too much. I'm going to file this as an iTunes bug.

How can I automatically sync my IMAP (AOL) Mail to the Mail App

I have an AOL mail account and I use the Mail App on my Mac to check my mail and so on.
My question is how do I keep all the Mail (including messages and attachemtns) on the AOL Server as a copy on my Mac Hard Drive.
For examples, I have 20 Sub-Folders on the AOL Server, can they automatically since to duplicate folders on my Mac? Or is there an easy way to do it.
Currently, I am manually moving my messages to the folders I created in the "On My Mac".
There must be an easier and automatic way to do this that I am missing right? We are in 2014!

I have bought a computer and authorised it and transfered library to it. Trouble is most of the songs have been duplicated 5 times and will take forever to delete one at a time. Can I select delete all exact duplicates in one go??

The same cuts that I have in this clip that i performed with the blade tool, I want to duplicate, copye, paste and apply to another clip. I want the cuts to mimic and be an exact same. I wish i could highlight the clip, click copy and then highlight the other clip and then click paste and the cuts apply.

'Show duplicates' is now under the 'View' menu. To see the 'Date added' column go to 'View options' from the 'View' menu and check it in the section under 'Stats'.
Click an audiobook once to select it and hit command-i (Mac) or control-i (Windows). Go to the 'Options' tab and set 'Media Kind' to 'Audiobook'.

Can Compressor 4 remove duplicate frames?

I have some videos which were converted to 30fps from a lower frame count. It was obviously a simple conversion that duplicated frames as needed.
The problem is, when I use these videos for slow motion, the duplicated frames cause the slow motion to "pause". In order to fix this, I have to remove the duplicated frames (obviously I don't care about sound, and I don't care about time sync). Once the duplicated frames are removed, the slow motion is nice and smooth.
In the past, I've always done this with very short clips, so I can do it manually. I open the video in QTP, advance one frame at a time, and when I see a duplicate, I delete it. Since there's always a pattern, depending on what the lower frame rate was, this can be done reasonably quickly, for very small clips. But it's obviously a tedious process.
I was wondering a few things:
1) Can Compressor 4 fix this issue for me? I've tried a few things in Compressor, but no help yet. I'm just a relative newbie, so that's not surprising.
2) Are there any other utilities that might help? Something that removes duplicate frames, for example?
3) These clips were already converted when I received them. However, in the future, when I convert a lower fps to 30fps for the purposes of doing slow motion, how should I do this in Compressor so as to have smooth slow motion at 30fps? Again, I don't care about audio.
I've done a few days worth of searching, but I still havent found the answers. Any help will be appreciated.

The Reverse Telecine didn't remove the extra frames. Who knows - maybe the frames aren't exact duplicates, although for the most part, they look it to the naked eye, which I realize doesn't mean much.
Oh well, doing it by hand isn't the end of the world. I've probably spent more time trying to figure out an automatic method, than it would have taken to do it by hand. But of course, I'm sure I'm not the only one who's ever done that...

I am able to pull up exact duplicates but am I only supposed to delete the extras or all on the list? Is there a way to delete all at once or do I have to do it one by one?

You want to delete all but one of each repeating group. It becomes more complicated because sometimes there are two links to a single file, other times there are multiple files on the hard drive with the same audio content and tag properties. Depending on which it is you either do or do not want to delete the file when deleting the entry from the library.
See this thread which discusses some causes, gives a strategy for a manual removal and explains the ideas behind a script called DeDuper for doing it automatically.

I know you can show duplicates, but you have to go in and remove them by hand. I have two libraries that are "almost" similar, but I would like to combine them into one library. If I just copy over one on top of another, I will surely end up with a HUGE amount of dups. I don't want to have to clean up by hand.
I would like to remove "exact" copies.
Any ideas?
