Can one join a 2011 Mini to an older model, plus external HD?

I currently have the 2006 Mac Mini connected by firewire to a La Cie external hard drive.
I would like to know if the new Mini can be connected to the existing mini -- and by extension the firewire HD --
Also would i need to purchase a separate edition of Lion to upgrade the system on the 2006 Mini?

So i just bought a mac on ebay, its in good working condition, however i was wondering if i was able to swap out an older model logicboard for a new one. I'm stuck with quite a problem over here. Bought an Audigy 2 Platinum a couple of months ago through the Internet and it works like a gem, but................if I want to hook up my soundmodule to it, I'm confronted with the fact that I need a mini 5-din for that and I haven't got a scheme of which wire I've got to put where.
Standard MIDI is easy:
3 ?o empty??? empty o?
?5. o red??? blue o? 4
??? 2? o yellow
But now the mini plug..................... It's got two holes on the left and three on the right side, but obviously it's quite different from the standard plug, so my question is: how and where do I connect the respectable wires?
If anyone could help me out on this one I'd be very thankful as this kind of cables aren't for sale anymore over here in Europe.........

I gave insurance images and provided original receipts (my purchases were made on Apple.com), and Apple provided electronic copies of the receipts. You may want to contact Apple and check, if they can provide a copy. Insurance may depreciate the original value. I was offered residual value which i used to buy newer replacements, and provided the receipts for replacements back to insurance.

No, I don't think you can. You need a viable OS to boot to in order to restore from TM; either an installer disc or the Lion Recovery Partition.

I bought a new Macbook Pro 13 inch in December 2011 and I bought the Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Design Premium shortly after and installed it on the computer. The other day my friend spilled his drink on my computer and it is now going to cost me $800 to get it fixed so I am considering getting a new one instead of getting mine fixed I'm not sure if the memory is still ok or not either. It didn't get that wet and Apple told me it is more than likely ok but there is no guarantee that they are going to keep the memory when they fix it. So I was wondering if I get a new one if I can install the Suite on the new one I still have the product key and serial number for the Suite. Or if I decide to get mine fixed and the memory is swept, then can I reinstall it on mine after it is fixed? If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank You

Can I use an Apple thumb drive to install 10.7 on my Dec 2011 Mini?

I have acquired a used 2011 Mini and want to "take possession" of it. The only painless way I can think to do this is to wipe it and install a new OS and user account. If I could make the existing user account mine I would be happy to do that. Indicators are that I can but it seems like a minefield.
I put the Lion DVD into the Min/Air Superdrive. I made the DVD from the first Lion download last summer. It has worked fine since for installing Lion onto my MacBook but the Mini said "No". If I boot from the Recovery disc I am invited to download the whole OS all over again and the time estimate is 75 hours. I cannot afford to be without my keyboard, mouse and screen for 7 hours, let alone 75, so I must think of something else.
£55 is a bit steep, especially for something I already paid £21 for but, for a simple life, I would be ready to buy the Thumb Drive from Apple, if I knew it would work and not be rejected by the Mini. If anyone knows for sure this is going to work or if you have an alternative suggestion for using it as is I would be very grateful for your thoughts.

This relies on there being a Time Machine backup sadly. I don't think there is much I can do with the Recovery Disc without one. Is there?
If I put the copy of Lion that I have in the Mini's Superdrive it mounts but it says "you cannot install this version of the OS on this computer" or words to that effect. So, unless I can manipulate the account from where I am, I am going to have to stump up the £55 but it will be a complete pain if I wait for the thumb drive to turn up and then get the same message.

does not seem particularly specific – do you want to simply combine two images as they are, do you want to clip elements from the one and insert them into the other, …?

No. That model originally came with Lion, not Snow Leopard. You cannot boot Snow Leopard on that model. Lion is 10.7, not 10.8. The latter is Mountain Lion.
