Can one jump to time in nested sequence

I have two sequences, SEQ-A and SEQ-B, and SEQ-B is included (nested) inside SEQ-A.
If I am watching SEQ-A and and find a point in time I need to change something in SEQ-B, how I can go to SEQ-B at the point in time I am watching in SEQ-A? How can I know "what time it is" in SEQ-B? Seems like I should be able to see that - it seems very pertinent.
I hope I am explaining it correctly. Basically, the CTI in SEQ-A may not always reflect the same point in time in SEQ-B. I can't imagine I am left to guess where I should go to do a precise edit in SEQ-B.
I know there must be a way.

I wouldn't mind being able to see the time of the selected clip too. Like when you hover the cursor over the clip, you see duration, in-time out-time, but what about CTI location for the selected or cursor hovering clip...
That's useful info too. But your tip works well, even though targeting the layer is a bit out of the way.
It would be nice to have the option when double clicking a nested sequence to go to the CTI (if available) - or for example CNTRL+Double Click or something.

Sorry, but no. The Time Capsule needs a wired Ethernet broadband connection to be able to provide an Internet connection for connected devices. Check with your cellular provider to see if they have an adapter that might do what you want. Something like this...for example:

Can't adjust widescreen filter in nested sequence

I created a new sequence, then dragged a previously cut sequence into the Timeline of the new sequence to create a nested sequence. I then dragged the Widescreen filter onto Video Track 1. Although the filter was applied (it shows up in the Canvas), the parameters are not showing up in the Viewer filter tab. There is no way to adjust the properties of the filter.
I'm sure there is some simple explanation but I can't figure it out.

right click on the nested clip (sequence) in the timeline and choose "Open in Viewer"

Can one use a Time Capsule to backup Two Computers?

Sorry for what is likely such a dumb question, but Iif I bought a new Time Capsule with 3TB of storage, could I use this to backup two different computers on our home network?
And if so, could I generate an encrypted disk image (using Apple's Disk Utility) to store the data for both computers? Worst case scenario, there's a burglary and the Time Capsule is stolen, so we would feel much better knowing that the backed up data is totally encrypted and safe.

If you are asking about Time Machine backups from your Mac, the Time Capsule can easily handle multiple backups from 4-5 other Mac computers.
Time Machine will automatically keep separate backups for each Mac in a special container called a sparsebundle image, and you do have the option to encrypt the backups for each Mac.
Time Machine must backup directly to the Time Capsule drive.....it cannot back up to a separate disk image that you might create.

Filters to a nested sequence ?

well,
i am fairly new to FCP, though i have been working on it since a year but never worked intensively so i dont know many of the options,
one of them, which is very important as for my work n which is very irritating for me, is that i can not apply any effects or filters to a nested sequence. i wanna give a colour effets or transperancy to the nested sequence or something like that.
also when i import a sequence of images, i cant work with them as a single clip to which i can apply filters and effects and all. like i can do in after effects and premier where i can have those sequenced files as one clip n apply effects or use them all as just one clip. n not a nested item.
i have a sequence of tga images which are to be used for keying purpose but i cant use it as i can not apply filter to a nested sequence
any idea how to work around with it?
please help.

You can apply effects to a nested sequence, but normally after applying the effect you double click to adjust the effect. But that takes you to the sequence inside the nest.
With Alt-double click you stay at the nested sequence.
About the image sequence.
If you have Quicktime Pro, you can convert a image sequence to a Quicktime movie.
Open QuickTime player, File > Open Image Sequence
Export to Quicktime movie.

Can i connect my time capsule to my hdtv for use as an extra display for my mac book pro?

I want to use my hdtv as a display wirelessly. Can one connect their time capsule to the tv?

1. Can my TC handle "dual band" wifi or not? As it's 3 years old, I'm not sure the spec is sufficient.
They have been dual band since gen2.. yours is gen4 or at worst gen3.
2. Is the TC likely to provide better performance than the BT Home Hub router, as the Apple store suggest?
Impossible to say.. but easy to test.. simply plug the TC into the BT router in bridge mode and use it with setup to create a wireless network.. that is the way I would suggest anyway.
3. Will the BT wifi extender still work if the TC is the main router? BT aren't sure, hence asking here. "Trial and error" will take hours and because of the wifi issues in my house, can be frustrating.
Sorry this is out of my perview.. I can suggest it will be poor.. apple do not use standard settings for extend wireless.. and if it is universal repeater they also behave poorly.. Have you thought of using EOP adapters.. very popular in the UK and tend to work much better than wireless.
4. Would the BT wifi extender communciate with the TC or the BT Home Hub router?
As suggested above.. leave the BT as the main router and plug the TC bridged into it.. you can then use both..
simply set the wireless names different and keep the channels apart.
For 2.4ghz there are only 3 non-overlapping channels.. 1, 6, 11 or 13 as alternative in UK.
For 5ghz there are lots more but the lower channels work better.. so 36-48 depending on regs in the UK.

"decomposing" nested sequences for online re-link/tape capture

I have been “nesting” sequences within my timeline as follows:
(for discussion purposes I have redcued my timeline to a small sub-section)
Nesting is a feature I’m learning to really love and use a lot of in my edits! Gives me a great range for applying effects etc.,.
My problem arises when I generate my EDL or XML to hand off to the post house who go back and recapture the online RED footage from LTO. The EDL doesn’t reference the clips contained within the nest but just the nest name and in and out points. Really not cool, not cool at all!
How can I go about “decomposing” the nests when generating an EDL or XML?
I want to create a hi-res version of my timeline, without deleting nests and replacing them with shots as this will then get rid of the effects I have applied to the nested sequences.

This only works when you start a new project and disable the "insert and overwrite sequences as nests or individual cips".
By doing so, you can start the edit from a nested sequence and the "root clip" will be inserted in the sequence.
But in my case (and obviously anthonyjcox's case) we have already made the edit and didn't unchek that "insert and overwrite sequences as nests or individual cips" button. So every clip in the sequence is liked to our nested sequence. We are looking for an option that would "un-nest" or "un-link" these clips.
So does anyone know if there is a way to fix that?

Time remapping / slow motion extremely jumpy with nested sequence!

I have just finished the rough-cut of a ceremony when I went back to add effects-- slow motion, color correct, etc. only to find that ANY time-change is jittery-- extremely jittery, like it's skipping frames.
For trial purposes I created a new timeline with only one video clip placed multiple times. I reduced one to 50% with frame-blending, the other 50% with NO frame-blending and the final using time re-mapping with frame-blending. At 50% I don't expect fluid movement, but they are all acceptable... Until I put a different timeline in the timeline (I think it's a "nested sequence").
When speed is slowed on ANY nested sequence it is jittery. Whether it is a single nested sequence or a multi-camera sequence, it jumps.
Has anyone else had this problem?! Is this a bug? I never noticed it until this wedding. I am using CS3 and I cannot afford the time to re-edit this ceremony with 2.0.... Unless I have no choice.

I have tried using both. Time remapping on the clip (not nested) works fine, so does 'speed change.' But both time remapping and speed change result in jumpy frames when applied to a nested sequenced clip.
I tried this on another (much lower system) and have found the same results. I am begining to think it is the footage but it seems odd that it is perfect when applied to a clip in the timeline but NOT to a timeline in the timeline (nested).
I am on vacation and do not have access to a faster machine until next late next week but for now I will try the export again to be sure Encore sees the same thing.
I am dumbfounded because I had been using 1.5, then 2.0 and now CS3 for weddings for years and have never noticed this. I have noticed it on the both the last project and now this current one.
I thought it could have been the original footage (or a camera problem except that the problems are not there until a nested sequence comes along. I will try moving the footage to my internal drive now and see what happens...

I edit a weekly news show. For this show, I have created a Project File that I re-use as a template every week. It's a highly nested template, with a sequence for every used material (the anchorman’s footage, the news set, the media playing over the anchorman’s shoulder, the lower thirds, etc). It has three different camera angles in a multicam sequence, each sequence sharing the same nested sequences but just resized to look like a different camera angle. In the past, the template has worked perfectly. However, everytime Adobe has a major update and I update the project file, for some reason, some of the sequences perform very sluggishly. With Adobe's recent update, the sequences for the anchorman’s footage and the media playing behind him are very slow to make edits in. Every action I do takes 10 seconds to process, even moving an image. However, if I work in the master sequence (With everything put together) everything runs perfectly smooth when I make edits.
In an attempt to fix this problem, I decided to recreate the project file from scratch, with the new update, but even then, my "anchorman footage" and "media behind him" sequences are very slow. What's even more bizarre is if I select a piece of footage in the anchorman sequence, my entire program sometimes crashes. I have tried rendering the sequences to help performance, but that hasn't worked. I have tried installing CUDA Drivers to use the CUDA version of the Mercury Playback Engine on my Macbook Pro Retina, but it also still isn’t working.
So why do you think that my sequences are operating so slowly? What could be causing it? Could it be that each sequence is used several times in the multicam sequence? If so, why has it worked smoothly until now? What can I do?

Very Very Sluggish Performance, semi hangs in PP, if you actually wait long enough, or leave it hung whilst you do a post on here, for a few minutes then it may come back to response.
The issue is defo to do with nesting, I have tried turning off audio wave forms, which helps in the multicam nest edit but as soon as you put that sequence into a third nest then the sluggishness is major.
Basically, this looks to be the same issues that have been reported before with the new update.

Nested Sequence One Layer or Multiple?

I have several sequences in my composition and want to pull them in on the master sequence timeline. The problem is when I drag another sequence in it isn't one video and one audio layer, it is bringing in all the layers and they are all editable from the master sequence timeline. I need imported nested sequences to be one video and one audio layer. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Perhaps I found the answer. I suppose the "Insert and overwrite sequences as nests or individual clips" button was off its default state. It is the icon to the top left of the Timeline window above the Video and Audio tracks. It looks like a little arrow pointing to the right either to one track or many. When I toggled that my nested clips came in as one video and audio. Never knew that option existed and not sure I see the use of it.

Nested Sequences show different duration times

In a FCE 3.5.1 project, have a sequence (call it Sequence 1) that shows a Duration of 00:08:56;12 in the Browser. However, if I open Sequence 1 into the timeline, it is only 00:08:31;20 long.
Sequence 1 is also used within 2 other sequences. In one of them, it shows a duration of 00:08:56;12, the same as the Browser indicates. Where it is nested in the other sequence, it shows a duration of 00:08:31;20, the same as that for Sequence 1 when it is open in the Timeline. Very confusing!
The latter Duration is probably correct since that is what is indicated in the Timeline. Why does it display a different duration in Browser and in one of the Sequences within which it is nested? And what should I do about it, if anything?

If I create a new Test Sequence and drag Sequence 1 from the Browser into the Timeline and go to the end, The Canvas window shows both the Duration and the playhead position to be 00:08:56;12.
If I double-click the nested sequence, it opens showing all of its Clips and the Canvas now shows the Duration to be 00:08:56;12 but the position of the playhead (at the end) is listed as 00:08:31;20.
As far as I can determine, the only place where In & Out points are indicated for Sequences are in the Browser where 00:00:00;00 and 00:08:56;11 are shown.
Do I dare change the Out Point in the Browser to read 00:08:31;20 or will I risk screwing something up?

How can I delete repeats in my iPhoto library without going one at a time?

I have been trying to clean up my iphoto library, and find that many of my imports have been repeated in different places. Is there a way to clean out repeat photos so there aren't so many of the same ones without having to do so one at a time?

You can use any one of these applications to identify and remove duplicate photos from an iPhoto Library:
iPhoto Library Manager - $29.95
Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto - free - was able to recognize the duplicated HDR and normal files from an iPhone shooting in HDR.
Duplicate Annihilator - $7.95 - only app able to detect duplicate thumbnail files or faces files when an iPhoto 8 or earlier library has been imported into another.
PhotoSweeper - $9.95 - This app can search by comparing the image's bitmaps or histograms thus finding duplicates with different file names and dates.
PhotoDedupo - $4.99 (App Store) - this app has a "similar" search feature which is like PhotoSweeper's bitmap comparison. It found all duplicates.
DeCloner - $19.95 - can find dupicates in iPhoto Libraries or in folders on the HD.
Some users have reported that PhotoSweeper did the best in finding all of the dups in their library: i photo has duplicated many photos, how...: Apple Support Communities.
If you have an iPhone and have it set to keep the normal photo when shooting HDR photos the two image files that are created will be duplicates in a manner of speaking (same image) but the only diplicate finder app that detected the iPhone HDR and normal photos as being duplicates was PhotoSweeper. None of the other apps detected those two files as being duplicates as they look for file name as well as other attributes and the two files from the iPhone have diffferent file names.
iPLM, however, is the best all around iPhoto utility as it can do so much more than just find duplicates. IMO it's a must have tool if using iPhoto.

How can I quickly get the same album art for all tracks on an album without manually doing them one at a time?

I am having trouble with album art linked to each track. My library is ripped from my own cd's and ITunes only provides some of the artwork from a find artwork search. The rest must be found and added one at a time manually from web. This process is tedious and time consuming for me. Is there a file in iTunes related to each album that I can just drop the art once and it shows up linked to all the tracks from that album when they play? I've tried selecting all songs from an album and dragging the artwork to the artwork window once in hopes of all tracks getting the artwork at the same time with no luck. Any advice for this paltry artwork dilemma would be appreciated. If Cassidy & Greene still owned this ******* child of SoundJam I know I would not be having this problem! HaHa...Thanks for any advice/help with this problem.

Thx 4 quick reply alexbird. Your method will work and after a little experimenting so will this: Just go to the album art view option and highlight the album you want artwork for. Drag the artwork from your album art web search page to bottom left hand album art window in iTunes and just drop it there. A small progress window then appears showing each album track adopting the dropped artwork one by one. It only takes 10-15 seconds for all of the tracks on your album to adopt the new artwork. I then went back and removed unwanted artwork(from the albums that had it) track by track from the get info menu. This goes pretty quick as you just pick track>get info>artwork>highlight art>delete>ok for each track.
This drag/drop to the album art view page has been the simplest and most effective way I have discovered to manually import album artwork into iTunes so far. Hope this helps someone else out there.
