Can one upgrade darwin 10.8 (OSX 10.6.8) to Safari 6?

Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro running on OS X 10.6.8 and kernel  Darwin 10.6.8.
I've been trying to update Safari to get Safari 6, but when I make the update,  Apple update "tells" me all my apps are up to date already.
But I am still stock with Safari 5.1.10.
Does it mean my computer is too old?
Any suggestion welcome.
Thank you.

Also, your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.

Can one upgrade from CS5.5 to CS6 as a Retail Product or does one need to do it as a Volume License?

Well, depends on what your CS5.5 actually is. If it came as a volume license, the upgrade terms would be determined by the specifics of the volume licensing model chosen... Anyway, that's way too specific. Contact sales support by phone or web chat to haggle things out.

  • Can one upgrade the graphic card for Imac (intel based)?

can one upgrade the graphic card in an Imac (intel based)?

While anything is theoretically possible, you would need to find another GPU that is compatible with your specific model iMac, and you would need to modify OS X to use a driver appropriate for whatever you propose to install. Future OS X updates would break it in short order. Not only that, you'd void whatever warranty that remains. It's not worth it.

  • Can one upgrade airport express to 811 "N"?

I note the the new airport extreme comes with a, I suspect, firmware upgrade that makes current airport software on your Mac "N" capable. Can one do this with one's airport express unit?
    thanks

    No you can't.
The Airport Express does not contain the hardware to support 'N' networks.

  • Can i upgrade 8.6 to osx on an imac g3?

i'm looking at getting one since my ibook died and i'm skint bit the one i wnt runs on 8.6. is it possible to update it to 10.2.8ish? how easy is this to do?
    thank you for your help,
    lou x

    Hi, lou -
    Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
All iMac G3's which can run OS 8.6 can also run OSX 10.2.x (Jaguar). However, in order to provide more accurate advice we would need to know some more info about the machine -
    • Exact model designation. If you're not sure of that, this Apple KBase article can help identify it -
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58669
    • How much RAM is in the machine. A specified minimum of 128MB is needed for OSX; 256MB is a more realistic minimum, more is better.
    • How big is the hard drive. OSX requires more space than OS 8 or OS 9 to install; and, some iMac G3 models with drives 8GB or larger in size need to have the drive partitioned.
    • Has the machine had its firmware updated. This is very important - some iMac G3 models can suffer loss of video if the machine is booted to OSX (even to an install disk) before the firmware has been updated. You can obtain any needed firware update from this Apple KBase Article #86117 - Firmware Updates.

  • I have iphoto 7. I need to order additional copies of a wedding album. When I try, it tells me that I can no longer order on iphoto 7 and I need to upgrade. When I try to upgrade, it tells me tat I can't upgrade because I have OSX 10.6.8  What can I do

I have iphoto7. I need to order additional copies of a wedding album I creared LESS THAT A YEAR AGO!!!. Apperently I can no longer order on iphoto 7 and cannot download the upgrade on my OSX 10.6.8 system What can I do?

Your profile signature is confusing. There it says "iPhoto '08, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8)".  But your question mentions older systems:  " iphoto 7 and cannot download the upgrade on my OSX 10.6.8 system"
Do you have two different Macs? If you have a second mac with OS X Mountain Lion (10.8), you could upgrade that to MAvericks and buy the most recent iPhoto '11, version 9.5.1 from the App Store. That would be the least expensive solution to upgrade your iPhoto.
If you only have iPhoto 7 on OSX 10.6.8, you can can buy the boxed iLife '11 installer package from Amazon. This will install an early version of iPhoto '11, that runs well with your current system and will let you print your book.  You will need to run the iPhoto library upgrader to convert your old library, see:  iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrader
Also, you  should be aware, that upgrading your library may change the book layout a bit, because the themes have changed between the versions, so you need to keep a backup copy of the library and iPhoto 7, to be able to compare the upgraded version to the original.

  • Can one upgrade from LP9 to LPX or is it a complete new purchase? Does it load as a separate program or does it integrate into LP9?

It's still cheap at the price but one used to be able to purchase an upgrade. What happens now?
Does the download integrate with LP9 or is it a complete new program/

There are no upgrades.. or discounts...
Logic Pro X is considered a separate program (as are all App Store sold programs these days)  to LP9 and so there is no discount if you own an earlier version of Logic Pro
Note: The cost of LPX is actually much less than it used to cost to upgrade from say, LP8 to LP9...  so while there is no upgrade pricing, the new version costs less than it would have cost to upgrade from a previous version, in the past anyhow... and by quite some degree.
Example: To upgrade from LP8 to LP9 cost $499 originally.... whereas the full version of LPX only costs $199
LPX is kept as a separate program on your Mac  so if you have LP9 already installed..  you can continue to run and work with LP9 if you wish. (for creating and working with projects for example, that contained 32bit AU plugins which LPX no longer supports)
LPX and LP9 also do share some content between them... but LPX comes with a lot of new content that is not available in LP9.
Note: LPX can import projects created/saved in LP9 but LP9 cannot import projects created/saved in LPX.

  • How can I upgrade from an older OSX to Lion, I do have the requisite processor.  I did not have Snow Leopard, so I do not have the App Store.

The people at the Apple Store told me to wait on an upgrade to Snow Leopard because Lion was coming out soon.   However, without Snow Leopard, I can not get the App Store.
I have OSX 10.58 and a processor big enough to support Lion.

So you need to upgrade to Snow Leoapard first so you can access the Mac App Store in order to download Lion.
Snow Leoapard is available from the online store >  http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM.

  • Can't upgrade Macbook Pro to OSX Yosemite

Hi - I've been trying to update my MacBook Pro Mid 2009 to OSX Yosemite.  After dowloading and running the installer, it goes through the process of preparing the installation, closing all programs and preparing to restart. Then I get this error.
    I've tried:
    -Running the application again
-Redownloading the Yosemite software multiple times
    -Checking for updates
-Running the Yosemite installer with wifi off
-Repairing disk permissions to the hard drive
    -Verifying the hard drive disk
-Installing a new version of Mavericks
    Any ideas?

Perhaps the HDD does not have sufficient room.  It needs a minimum of 5 GB for Snow Leopard.
In all other respects your MBP should be able to install 10.6.
Disk MC223Z/A is the appropriate retail disk.
    Ciao.

  • Can I upgrade to Maverick from OSX 10.7?

I havent upgraded to Mountain Lion
Will I be able to upgrade to Mavericks - i.e. skip Mountain
    Thanks
    Omar

You probably will, but it'll also depend on the hardware requirements of Mavericks. And we don't know those until Apple announces them.

  • Can one upgrade Flash Storage

I want to buy the new 15" MacBook Pro with 512Gbt of flash storage, but might want to increase the capacity in a year or so to 1T or more when they come out with that size of flash memory.
Is it fixed forever once you buy the machine, or is possible to change out the flash storage to a higher capacity in the future.  Grateful for any input.

Is it a risk? Yes - OWC is the only manufacturer of flash storage cards for the Retina at this moment, and there's no guarantee that there will be bigger cards coming down the pipeline. That said, I have a 512GB SSD in my late 2011 15" and find that it's plenty of space as I have Thunderbolt and FW800 drives that I use for working projects, backups, etc. I'm gradually migrating all of my FW800 drives to TB drives.
So I don't keep 'everything' on my 512GB SSD... and I doubt that you'll need much more than that to start with. Apple's charging a ridiculous price to go from the 512GB to the 768GB storage right now and I don't thing that it's really worth it.
It might be a year - it might be two - before OWC or another company makes a larger flash storage card. But I'm sure that they'll come out at some time...
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • I have a six year oldG4 laptop which will not support the latest free Adobe flashdrive.  Can I upgrade to the latest OS X?

I have a G4 iBook which cannot support/download the new Adobe Flash update.  Can I upgrade to the latest OSX?

Can I upgrade to the latest OSX?
No. It may possibly run leopard OS 10.5 but that would be as far as you can take a PPC Mac.
    As regards Flash Player:
You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version, 10.2.152.25, 10.3.x beta, or later, is for Intel Macs only, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.0.1.152 is for Lion.
    * Unhelpfully, if you want the last version for PPC Macs, you need to go here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html  and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. Flash Player 10.1.102.64 is the one you download. More information here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
(If you are running a PPC Mac with Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and are having problems with watching videos on FaceBook or other sites, contributor Texas Mac Man suggests the following solution which fools the site into thinking that you are running the latest version:)
Download this http://www.steelbin.com/FPforFBPPC.zip to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.

  • Am i the only user to still have Mac OSX 10.4.11 using Safari 4.1.3    n 3

Am I the only one to still use Mac OSX 10.4.11 using Safari 4.1.3? if so does anyone else have problems with incompatibility using certain web sites?

    Hi Brenda...
My iBookG4 is running v10.4.11 (knock on wood) with Safari 4.1.3 and it's not an incompatibility issue so much as the 4.1.3 is such an outdated version of Safari.
Most websites especially financial institutions require the newer versions of all browsers to for access.

  • How can I upgrade from OSX 10.7 to 10.9 on my 2012 mac mini? (2.3 GHz, 4 GB, 500 GB SATA disk) I don't want OSX Yosemite.

How can I upgrade from OSX 10.7 to 10.9 on my 2012 mac mini? (2.3 GHz, 4 GB, 500 GB SATA disk) I don't want OSX Yosemite.

If your Mini shipped with OS X 10.7 Lion, then it was considered a 2011 build model, or before.
The Mini 2012 model, is considered a Late 2012, & the last one where RAM could be upgraded.
And it shipped with Mountain Lion 10.8, which is a fairly OK system if one had older software.
(However mine shipped in Dec 2014, with Mavericks 10.9.0, and was built in January 2014.)
There were a few different build versions of Late 2012 Mac Mini, the i5 or i7 processor,
in dual-core or quad-core, and some CTO or built-to-order versions with other specs.
You can buy Mountain Lion from online Apple Store, & use a download code emailed to you to
get the Mt. Lion 10.8 from Apple Servers; this would be about it, since Mavericks isn't available.
So hopefully that is an option you can exercise; in addition the computer may prefer more RAM.
    Good luck & happy computing!
