Can only access G5 iPhoto library via Adobe Photoshop
Just tried to add 5 photos from a jumpdrive to my iPhoto library and now the library is inaccessible. Photos are still there--they open via Preview or Adobe Photoshop CS2--but the library itself (iPhoto app) is BLANK. 7 years of photos (reference and documenting my paintings) gone. I have just copied, via Finder, the last few folders from 2011 to the portable hard drive, so the photos are backed up. My question: how to restore the iPhoto library so that application is useful?

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

How can I access my iPhoto library folder?
My hard drive recently had to be replaced, and when they replaced it, they updated to OSx 10.9. I had not backed up my photos before my hard drive crashed, but they backed up all my files for me. I went to open my iphoto library from the backup files and as a new (to me) version of iphoto 11 opened, I got a message saying that it had to update the photos in my library in order for them to be compatible with this version of iPhoto and that after updating them, I'd no longer be able to read them on an older version of iphoto. I clicked ok. It only imported 9 photos (out of several thousand). I went to finder and tried to open the iphoto library folder (which contains the library file and the cache, etc.), but the folder will not open. Instead, when I click to open the library folder, it brings up iphoto, as though to indicate that my library is there. Did I somehow unknowingly overwrite my library or something?? Any ideas why I can't access my iphoto library? Are my photos gone?
I'm stupid so I don't have copies of the photos anywhere else. I don't have Time Machine or anything. Did I irreversibly screw up??I didn't think to check what photos were there or what the library size was before trying to import at first. How do I restore my backup of the iphoto library? (sorry if that's a stupid question). I checked in the Masters folder and only saw a few of my photos (the same ones that were imported to iphoto).
I definitely know it was a mistake not to have a backup of the photos. It'll be the first thing I do if I can get them back. The mistake I was referring to in my initial post was clicking "ok" when it asked to update---but from what you're saying it sounds like that wouldn't have deleted anything.
I'm thinking maybe the backup is not complete (even though I asked the tech people 5 times if it was!), because I checked the imovie events folder, and it's also empty (and it definitely shouldn't be)! If this turns out to be the case, I may have to go back to the repair place to see if they can still pull files off. -
i can only access my itunes library if i plug in my external hard drive. how do i find where the itunes songs are on my external hard drive and how do i move them to my computers internal hard drive so i no longer have to have the external hard drive plugged in?
When the drive is connected, use the Organize Library command in iTunes. If the entire library is located there, drag it to the internal drive, launch iTunes with the Shift key held down, and point it there.

You can share photos with the PC using MyPhotoStream or Shared PhotoStreames
You can not share the iPhoto library
And you can not put the iPHoto library on a NAS - it MUST always be on a volume formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and mube on a fast wired local connection - it can not be on a Network
There are Digital Asset Managers that can do what you want - iPhoto and Aperture can not

The Iphoto is version 2008 but it won't let me upgrade to a newer version.
Os is version 10.6.8
The exact Iphoto is 7.1.5 (378)
The message I'm getting is :
You can't open your iphoto library using this version of iphoto. You made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iphoto.
When I could no longer open the photos on this computer I copied them to an external drive. I viewed the photos on a borrowed computer and was able to see them but now I'm getting the message to upgrade but again, when I go to upgrade it tells me I can't on this computer becuase OS 10.7.5 or later is required. I'm not given the option to upgrade to 10.7.5 though -- it says my software is up to date.

I can't access my iPhoto library after downloading osx maverick
I recently installed OSX maverick, and now I can't get into iPhoto library. The message I get is this, "You can’t use this version of the application “iPhoto” with this version of OS X. You have “iPhoto” 9.2.1" . I'm not very technical so apologies if there is an obvious answer to this. Thanks.

How to import photos from iPhoto Library to Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 Editor?
I can't use Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 Editor to edit photos from iPhoto Library. If I choose File, Open, and then select 'iPhoto Library', error message is "could not complete your request because of a program error."
You can't do it that way. Any attempt to poke around in the iphoto library from outside iphoto is very likely to damage the library and cause you to lose your photos, so PSE won't let you. You have two choices:
1. Set PSE as your external editor, send the photos from iphoto, and save them without changing the name or format (you may need to adjust the editor prefs>Saving Files>On First Save to let you do this). Then iphoto will remember your original and the last edited version.
Be sure to choose this file in Applications>Adobe Photoshop Elements 10>Support files as your external editor, not the one at the top level of the PSE 10 folder in Applications:
2. Export the photos from iphoto, use File>Open in the PSE editor to open the images and then save them with whatever changes to name or format you like, and reimport the saved images to iphoto as new files. This way you can save as many versions as you like. -
Any ideas why I can only access the itunes library and photos of one of the two user accounts on my iMAC? Settings for each of the accounts is the same, as far as I can tell.

Are you selecting the second AppleTV in home sharing options on the MBP. Are all devices signed in for Home Sharing with the same AppleID?

The ! sign before the song means that the actual song is no longer on your computer and/or iTunes library.

On imac 10.6.8 using current version of Aperture. How can I access the Aperture Library on my external hard drive that I use with time machine for backup? I can only access the application but not the library..
Go into Time Machine (the program not the bundle on the extrnal disk) and using Time Machine's browser go to the Folder where the library lives. You could look in the library bundle in Time Machine but that won't really tell you much,
If you want to make sure it truely has backed up your library you will need to restore it and open the restored library with Aperture.
If all this still has you confused you need to read up on Time Machine in order to get a feel for how it works, for what it is doing and for how to restore files from it. -
Why can't iPhoto, Pages, Numbers, Keynote and iMovie access my iTunes Library files and Pages, Numbers, Keynote and iMovie access my iPhoto Library files now that I upgraded to '11?
Examples of what is going on:
1. In Pages, Numbers & Keynote, when I go to the media browser the Audio section reads "Open iTunes to populate this list" even after iTunes has been opened, .xml file has been replaced/repaired, etc AND Photo section reads "Open iPhoto to see photos from your iPhoto Library in this list" even after iPhoto Library has been replaced and new default library created.
2. In iMovie, similar thing ... when I go to add photos or music to a movie the iTunes files aren't present and the iPhoto photos are missing with similar messages as in #1.
3. In iPhoto, similar thing ... when I go to add music to a slideshow it says to "Open iTunes to populate this list".
It is shocking to me that Apple would let something as simple as a pathway link to associated library files get this messed up on an upgrade, but what's even more surprising is that with the number of people who seem to be having this particular issue (and I can tell from all the research that I've done for weeks online that there are a lot of them) that there doesn't seem to be a single clear answer to fixing it anywhere on these community support forums. Most of what I've seen is rehashed advice from outdated issues. What I need is a simple answer to how do we get these programs to look for the correct location of the photo and music files because I sure can't seem to find any logical place to do that through the programs' preferences files or the system preferences window?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Numbers '09 2.3 (554)I have the same problem on a new MacBook Pro. I have not been able to access the iTunes library from iPhoto since I got this computer. I looked in the Preferences file and deleted the com.apple.iApps.plist but there was no com.apple.iApps.lockfile so I just deleted the iAPPs.plist and rebooted the computer. Still no iTunes available in iPhoto.
All my music is in iTunes and plays. After reading the above I brought up Pages and I was able to access music and insert a track into a document.
Do you have any suggestions. -
My former pc burned out and i can't access my itunes library on my new pc. I attached my nano 3rd gen to the new pc and was able to transfer only purchased songs from itunes. How do I transfer the rest of the songs i downloaded from CD's.

All of a sudden I can't access my iPhoto files from any other programs (ie Photoshop, facebook etc.). It just gives me this message below. What the **** changed? This wasn't happening yesterday.
1 - close iPhoto.
2 - go to your Pictures folder and open the iPhoto Library package as shown below:
3 - locate a file named AlbumData.xml and move it to the Desktop.
4 - launch iPhoto.
5 - relaunch the other programs and try the media browser again.
