Can only get sound when "software monitoring" is checked

Working my way through David Nahmani's logic pro 8 and express book. On the second lesson trying to record acoustic guitar. It says to turn off software monitoring under preferences > Audio so the computer isn't picking it up twice, but when I do I get no sound at all in my monitors or headphones. The channel strip still reads and lights up, it will even record, but don't hear it when I'm actually recording it. The guitar tuner only works when software monitoring is checked too.
I'm using logic express 8 my interface is a Presonus Firebox.

Hi,
this advice applies to recording acoustic guitar with a mic and without headphones.
With an electric guitar, or while wearing headphones, software monitoring should be turned on.
Even better, since there's no latency, is hardware monitoring. Some audio interfaces have a knob to select between input and computer output.

I would be happy to help you. Firstly, a few more details about your notebook would be helpful, as there are many different versions of the HP 2000 Notebook. Please read the following documents, if you need help in finding your product/model number and OS version.
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
Has your HDMI/TV connection ever had sound before, and if so were there any updates that could have affected it?

In the following link, please pay particular attention to the section on Troubleshooting TV setup as a second monitor.
Using Two or More Monitors with One Computer (Windows 8)
Other things that could help would be to insure that you have updated all the video and audio related drivers for your notebook. The drivers can normally be found from the product page for your notebook, or from the original chipset manufacturer. I would link that page to this, but I need the exact product/model number to get the right page for you.
Another thing that could help with drivers is the: HP Support Assistant as it can automate the driver updates for you.

I can only get sound through my ipad with the head phones. I haven't had this problem before. I upgraded about a week ago, but this is the first time the sound has been an issue. When I turn up the volume it shows that it is the volume for the headphones but I can't figure out how to adjust the volume for everything. I have rebooted.

Also try this if above doesn't work.
1. Plug and unplug my headphone jack into the iPad four times.
2. On the fourth time leave the headphone jack connected and rotate the plug clockwise, then remove and try your sound.

What apps are you trying? TV out video only works with apps that support TV out. If the app does not support TV out you will still get aoudio via the component cable

What iOS in on your iPod? The Users Guide says:

I can't get sound when I connect my classic to my TV

I've bought an Apple Comp AV Cable to connect my 80GIG classisc to my TV. After connecting I can only get video and a buzzing sound. I tried rearranging the blue green and and red cables but nothing works. Apple should show which colours correspond to the TV's yellow white and red inputs.

Blue, green and red are indicative of component connections. Yellow, white and red are not.
You can't connect component from your iPod if your TV does not support it.
If you had a component connection on your TV, the inputs would be labelled blue, green and red to correspond with the cable.

Can only get audio when trying to AirPlay from Dish app

Since updating to IOS 6 I only get audio when air playing from my Dish Network app on my iPad. I can get audio and video when mirroring; however the quality is horrible and it doesn't fill my screen. I was able to get audio and video both before updating my iPad and Apple TV. The recent updates have been a disaster!!
Apple TV and AirPlay were great products before. I thought updates are supposed to make Apple products better....not worse. Please help if there is a solution

Usually these types of limitations are added by the app developer, especially with media apps like these. However I would first try Resetting the devices. I found the best way to reset the iPad is to close all apps in the recently used app list. Double tap the Home button to reveal the list at the bottom then tap and hold one icon till they wiggle and display a minus button. Tap the to close all apps them press the Home button to get back to the home screen. Hold the Sleep button till "Slide to power off" appears. Once it has shut down completely press the Sleep button till you see the Apple icon.
The procedure is similar to resarting your computer when it starts acting flaky. iPads are just a hand head computer and rarely gets shut down or reset so it would be similar to running your computer for months at a time without shutting it down.

I use my room mates computer, sometimes, as it is a desktop, but he owns it, and has an account for me (I have an old lap top). He is away for Government training in California, and I ABSOLUTELEY CAN NOT mess up his settings...but, I do not think I can, because I am not listed as an administrator. Sky go is an app that does not support video AirPlay, not all apps do.

Can only get sound at certain angles.

I don't understand why my ipod only puts through audible sound when I tilt it at a certain angle. Examples: If I hold it upside down, I can get normal sound, but If I tilt it, it looses words, so I get half of the music with out lyrics, or it sounds like I'm listening to a radio thrugh a wall. Try another set of headphones with your Nano. If the problem persists you need to have a new headphone jack installed.

One last comment, I've tried using both HDMI (which I prefer)... but get's me no sound. I've also tried to use the VGA but I do believe I would need to use a sound cable as well... Is the HDMI output on the Lenovo N500 just for video at this point?
