Can only ping, nothing else

Hi,
I am in contact with BT regarding this problem, but since there seems to be no progress there I thought I'd try this. I had my BT infinity installed last Wednesday (after an amazing wait of 2 months). Anyway, the engineer installed everything, all lights on the modem are green, all lights on the hub are blue, but I have no internet connection. I can ping machines on the internet (such as 8.8.4.4), but that's it. DNS doesn't work, nor anything else; only ping. BT sent 3 engineers so far; they all say the line is fine, and they don't know what to do. I also ran out of ideas of what else to try; naturally I have checked firewalls etc. on my end, tried multiple devices, wireless/wired, different cables, etc. The engineers also tried different equipement, replaced modem, hub, nothing changed. To me it seems like BT is blocking me somewhere, but all the helpdesk people say all seems fine from their end and they do not know what could be wrong. Did anyone else ever experience anything like this?

Quickvpn / client to gateway vpn rv042 can only ping router

I am setting up remote access using an RV042 router. Using quickvpn or a client-to gateway vpn and shrewsoft client, I can only access/ping the LAN side of the remote router and one machine on the remote network. The PPTP server and native Windows 7 connection provide access to all machines on the remote network.
I have 2 possible reasons for this and would like to find the real reason:
1) The remote RV042 is behind another router, and that router restricts access other than the PPTP traffic.
2) The VPN tunnels other than PPTP only allow access to the remote LAN side of the router and remote machines that have the remote router defined as their gateway in the IP configuration.
Any ideas?

I've narrowed the problem down to option 2 above. If I change the gateway of a LAN resource to point to the LAN side of the router, it can be accessed through the VPN tunnel.
I haven't had time to see if adding routing entries can fix this problem. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Also, I would appreciate an explanation of why the PPTP connection works. I will research this myself (eventually) but am already backed up with other projects..

Please Help ASAP, i-Pod shows only menu, nothing else

Remeber back to when you first got your iPod, how there was nothing in it. If you selected music or videos (etc) it would lead you to a path of nothing.
I have had my iPod a little over a year and it is doing this to me. My computer is telling me that there is music and videos on it and that it is synced but it will only give me that unfortunate menu of nothing.
Please, I would very much appreciate any help or tips, I have tried Restoring it and Rebooting it, putting it in a different USB port, I even restarted my computer.

Same thing happened to me tonight. I updated 80GB Video iPod to 1.2.2. But I did not update iTunes for Windows. Photos showed up on iPod, but music and video did not (even though iTunes on PC showed the data was there). I thought I was in for a world of trouble before I found your post. How to install j2ee 1.4 sdk , and only that nothing else

hi guys , i am trying to install j2ee 1.4 sdk. i found the link for it on sun "http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html ", and when i try to install that package . it has everything from
app sever ,to java 2 sdk std edition to start up . etc .
but i dont want all this , i just want j2ee sdk 1.4
see what actully i want is j2ee sdk installation coz when i try writing my program in eclipse and when i say import javax.jms.*; it gives error coz it is not able to find the jar.
just the way for core java we install jdk what do we install so that we can use servlet,jsp,ejb,jms etc

downloaded " J2EE 1.4 SDK 2005Q2 UR2 " which took me
half an hour. and when i ran the setup file , it had
everthing from app server to jsdk 1.5 , but no where
was j2ee sdk to be found. still exploring without any
success :-(The "J2EE SDK" is basically nothing but the J2EE.JAR. It comes with that app server download.

ISight working with only Safari, nothing else

My built-in MacBook iSight is only working with Safari (at like video sites), but it won't work with iChat or Photo Booth. I have no idea how to try to fix this.

You have to quit Safari before it will work in another application.

Display of iPod Nano 2nd Generation does not work. Only backlight - nothing else. Experiences?

The iPod still start and also plays music, but I can't see anything on the display.
I can see the backlight, but not more...
I have reinstalled, recovered and restarted the iPod.
The firmware and iTunes is at the newest version.
Anyone got experience with this? Is there a way to fix it?

Sounds like you have tried all of the regular troubleshooting. So it points to an issue with your nano's LCD display. You'll have want to have it repaired/replaced either by Apple or a third party repair company.

The bookmark feature has stopped working, I can only bookmark my homepage (google search) but nothing else.

Firefox is simply unresponsive when I try to save a page as a bookmark, I have tried clicking the star in the URL bar, using ctrl-D, right clicking on the page, and saving from the bookmarks tab. None of these options do anything at all.
I have tried turning off different add ons but have not had any success. The only time I can get it to save a bookmark is if I bookmark my homepage, then it will save that, but nothing else.

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Based on what I can tell, you may have to go to the second hand market in order to get a MBP that will run a compatible OSX.

Please locate the model number on the side of the AirPort Express. Hard to see.....gray lettering on a white background....so you may likely need a magnifying glass and good lighting to see it.
The model number starts with a "A" followed by four numbers. If you see A1084 or A1088, unfortunately AirPort Utility 6.x in Mavericks OS X (10.9.4) does not support these older models. However, you can still administer these models if you have a Mac.....or can borrow one for a few minutes....using Leopard (10.5.x) or Snow Leopard (10.6.x), or a PC with AirPort Utility installed on the device.

You probably have a corrupt preference file, specifically 'systemuiserver.plist'. But there are potentially two of them, so ...
In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences", delete com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences/ByHost", delete com.apple.systemuiserver.xxx.plist where 'xxx' is a 12 digit (hexadecimal) numeric string.
Then log out and back in again. You may need to go to System Preferences to put back the menu items you need to display.
If this alone doesn't work, you may need to delete your caches, so repeat the above and then:
In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Caches", delete everything. Again, you need to log out and back in.
Let us know if this helps.

Itunes telling me ipod is corrupt - what can I do? Only have light on nothing else

My daughter's ipod won't turn on, she thought it was a problem with battery but I have charged it and light comes on but nothing else. Connected it to iTunes only to be told Ipod is corrupted - what can I do? Went to support centre but Monday before I can get a response.

Have you tried rebooting for the Mac and iPod to see if that helps? To reset the iPod, press and hold both the Select/Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
It wouldn't hurt to also try plugging the iPod into another USB port and use a different USB sync cable.

Yes your cabinet 10 on the Crediton exchange has already been installed and linked with a FTTC DSLAM cabinet (making it able to provide FTTC fibre broadband) and has been Accepting FTTC orders since December 2013. PCP10 (with it's DSLAM cabinet within 100meters of it) is locate on the junction of Commercial Road and the A3072.
However by the looks of things your are just too far away to obtain a FTTC (VDSL2) connection, meaning FTTC fibre broadband is not available to you.

Your best bet is to talk to Connecting Devon and Somerset to see if there are any further plans to get a fibre based service to your area via https://www.connectingdevonandsomerset.co.uk/contact-us/ (as your area may not be inscope of any further deployment). I can print a test page from my Mac to my HP Officejet Pro 8600 but nothing else will print

Hi - I just recently had a hard drive crash and had to revert to an old Time Machine backup on my new hard drive to get my Mac back. Since getting back up and running I have been unable to get my Officejet Pro 8600 back online. My computer is wired to the wireless router but the printer is running wireless. My computer can see the printer just fine and I can even print a "Print Quality Diagnostic" report from my Mac to the printer from the HP utility. But nothing else will print. The firmware is up to date. I have tried resetting the printing system multiple times, rebooting the machine, etc... Nothing works. Any help would be appreciated.
If it helps, we were using a different printer the last time the time machine was backed up, so when we used that backup the old printer was showing, but I reset the printing system, so it shouldn't matter.

Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see your hard drive recently crashed and now you are not longer able to print to your HP Officejet Pro 8600. I see you have reset the printing system with no success. Let's try a different approach:
Scrub/ Uninstall
• Open the Applications folder > HP or Hewlett Packard folder > HP Uninstaller
• Click continue, click on one of the printers in the list.
• * Only do this step if you do not have any other HP Printers. Hold down Control, Option and Command, While holding the three buttons down,
• Click uninstall.
Reset Printing System
1. Click the Apple icon ( ), and then click System Preferences.
2. In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan dialog box opens.
3. Right-click (or Ctrl +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
4. Click OK to confirm the reset.
5. Type the correct Name and Password.
6. Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol..
Repair Disk Permissions
1.On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
2.Double-click Disk Utility.
3.Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
4.Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
5.Once the repair is complete, restart the computer.
Restart the printer. Now you can download and install the printer software and install it. Click on the link below to begin the download and follow the on screen instructions:

I cannot access the internet using firefox. The little toolbar identical (the far upper right in the screen) pops up and nothing else happerns. This has only started very recently and I have not had this problem in the past.

When I click on the icon for firefox, a little toolbar (the one you see in the top right corner of the screen) pops up and nothing else happens. I'll close it out and retry, with only the same results. I tried Firefox safemode, with the same result. Like there is something blocking me, but I don't know what. It doesn't matter if I've been on the computer for some time or just started up, I cannot access the web thru Firefox. This has only started in the last couple days. Previously, I've never had this problem. I haven't loaded any new programs anytime recently to account for this. I use Norton for my anti virus program which is the newest and had since end of December. I am not happy having to use the windows internet explorer, so would be very happy to get this resolved. Should I uninstall the mozilla program, and then reinstall it?

Do you have a "real" IP address or a private (192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, 172.x.x.x) IP address?

Could not access it because their network security blocked you by intent, or had some unknown technical difficulty?
Unless you are blocked by intent or ommission (if they have to explicitly allow your machine) I can think of no technical reason why your wired connection should not both get you on their network and on the internet in general. You should not need to be dual homed (though dual homing should work as well).
Please answer the questions above when you can - I think solving the wired LAN issue will be easier if you are not being intentionally blocked.

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB free on the startup volume for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. Use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved. ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To really see everything, you have to run it as root. Back up all data now. Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways: ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.) ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens. ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid. After installing ODS in the Applications folder, drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. When you're done with it, quit it and also quit Terminal.
