Can operations continue to run when logged in as another user?

I've logged in as myself and I have set an operation to run, its going to run for a while and I would like the ability of my wife to log in. When you do this the operation pauses while logged in as her.
Can it continue to run at the same time?

Try logging into your user while holding down the shift key on your keyboard, to supress any startup items that may be interfering with your program.
If that does not do it, look for a preference file in you user folder by choosing the Go menu from the Finder and selecting Go to Folder and enter ~/Library/Preferences and checking for files having to do with your application. If there are any, move them to your desktop and try again.
If that does not fix it, move them back, replacing the new ones that will be built. Also, if your program uses any data files or libraries when started up, try removing those. Again, if not fixed, put them back.

  • Application won`t start - starts when logged in as another user

An application created by Unity doesn`t start. When I double click (or right mouse click and choose `open`) nothing happens. However, when I log in as another user, or when I try to run the same program from a flash drive, it works. I tried a lot, including repairing permissions, but nothing helped.
    Thanks in advance !

  • ORACLE Not Available - only when logged on as another user

    I can't figure out what I forgot. I installed everything (RH 6.1

When I login from a user I have granted dba to I get Error

    Jon,
Are you sure that the Database is started? You will get this
    error if it isn't.

Hey, I'm trying to install Adobe Flash on my Macbook Air. At a certain point it asks for my password but it doesn't take it. So I cannot continue installment. I have reset my password already. Still the same problem. How can I continue to install when it keeps asking for a password it doesn't recognize over and over again? How many times do I have to reset it then? Advice please

You have to provide your computer's administrator password in order to install Flash Player.

  • Acrobat 9.5.0 - when logged in as ONE user unselect "Display PFD in browser" don't work

Have Acrobat standard v9.5.0 running on Win7 - 64 bits. All up to date patched. On one user I can not let PDF files downloaded from the Internet open in an external window. I in the Preference I have unselected "Display FDP in browser".   Then I can see the file is downloaded, but never opened. I if select "Display FDP in browser" it is (now) OK. If I uninstall IE9 and am running IE8 or Firefox, everything is fine. It is also fine if I log in as another user.
I have uninstalled Adobe Acrobat and reinstalled. Uninstalled IE9 and reinstalled. My conclusion is that there is something wrong with the registry HCU part for the "problem" user. I have deleted HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\9.0 but still I have problems.
My question is: Which part of registry controls IE9 and opening PDF files downloaded from internet? How can I find the "bad registry key" for the problem user?
    Thanks in advance
    Harald

Is IE9 Security preventing the download of the file?  IE9 has a security feature that does this and pops a dialog at the bottom of the browser window, you might want to check it out.

You need to log into the content viewer with the same Adobe ID you used to create the folio. Note: iPad folios will not appear on the iPhone but should be available on all other devices.

  • Deleting AD users vs Disabling. What is the difference? If an account is disabled, can it still be setup for mail forwarding to another user? If an account is deleted, what files get deleted?

Deleting AD users vs Disabling.  What is the difference?  If an account is disabled, can it still be setup for mail forwarding to another user? If an account is deleted, what files get deleted?  Thanks.

    Hi,
Disable Users: Nobody can log in to the mailbox, but the data is safe and it can receive email. Once it is enabled, it is back to normal.
Delete Users: when the user is deleted all the services are removed and all data is erased. The user is deleted from our Active Directory. If you create a user with the same Name and Emial address again, no data or services are recovered.
If you disable a user, the Active Directory object remains untouched together with the mailbox data and properties, but you will not be able to access any mailbox data.
If you delete a user, the Active Directory object is removed together with all data and properties of the user.
    Hope it helps.

  • Can't open AI VIs when logged in as a restricted user

I have a VI that does simultaneuos analog I/O (LabVIEW 6.1, Windows XP). This VI works fine when I am logged in as administrator, but when I try to run this VI from a restricted user account LabVIEW can't find the AI VIs (AI Config, Start, Clear and Read). All AO VIs can be found. I have changed the restricted user's permissions to the National Instruments folder to full control, as described in http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/BB393E7B361E939886256EFD007AC591 but I still can't run my VI.
Does anybody know how to solve this problem?

    Thank you for your answer.
Unfortunately I can't try your solution on the computer where the problem occurred because it is used in another course for the moment and is therefore not available. But I tried to recreate the problem on another computer. I created a restricted account and when logged in on that account I opened my VI and it worked fine... (all subVI:s were found). By default, the restricted account had Read & Execute, List Folder Contents and Read permissions for the MAX folder. So, I then unchecked the Allow-boxes in an attempt to recreate the problem, but the VI still worked on the restricted account. Then I checked the Deny-boxes for the permissions mentioned above, but the VI still worked. Since I couldn't recreate the problem I don't know if your solution is the right one, but at least I can draw the conclusion that it is possible to run my VI from a restricted account.
But I will try your solution on the computer where the problem occurred when it is available and I will let you know whether the problem was solved or not.

  • I can connect to DM if I log in under another computer user (guest user) but not my own computer account?

I have tried a lot of installs/clean uninstalls of DM to get my Bold 9700 to connect with the Desktop Manager.  It did once a week ago but never did a proper sync?  Since then I've done a ton of reading and trying to get this darn thing to synch.
I'm running Windows Vista SP2, Dell laptop and trying to use version 6.0 of Desktop Manager. The odd thing that I run into is that if I log on to my computer as a guest and open the Desktop Manager it recognizes the BB.  I'm almost thinking to move my outlook and all my settings there and delete my current windows account...  There has to be a setting on the computer system that is not allowing the connection on my current login.  If I can login as another user and get DM to work than that shows the USB connection is good and device manager drivers are working, other software is not the cause (firewalls, virus checkers etc.).  What computer setting am I missing???
I've done a clean uninstall and reinstall of the software, I've done the hard reset on the BB,  I've done the new USB cable and different USB port.  Can you lead me through some other ideas or suggestions?  I'm at a lost and next to never post for help because most times I can find a resolution on these types of forums.  Haven't found anyone mentioning the fact of logging into another computer account to see that the BB is connected and recognized.  Completely stumped but in my defense I'm new to the Blackberry world and any suggestions are greatly appreciated!  If someone figures this out I will be sure to give a glowing review!!!

iTunes menu Store > Sign out of iTunes Match the n Sign in to iTunes Match.
but it wont let me do it from my actual user account on my macbook.
    Why not?

  • [SOLVED] XFCE4 Will Not Open When Logged On as Regular User

Please excuse me if I am being a noob, but I only installed ArchLinux yesterday. Whenever  I run
    startxfce4
as a regular user, the screen goes dark, flashes the Nvidia logo, then exits to a dialog box that reads:
Unable to load a failsafe session Unable to determine failsafe session name. Possible causes: xfconfd isn't running (D-bus setup problem); environment variable $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS is set incorrectly (msut include "/etc"), or xfce4-session is installed incorrectly."
When I check the output after I click "Quit" on the dialog box, the output at the end reads
    gpg-agent[1538]:error creating '/home/mordecai/.cache/gpg-agent-info' : Permission denied (xfce4-session:1515): Pango-WARNING **:error opening config file '/home/mordecai/.config/pango/pangorc' : Permission denied
    However, when I run
    startxfce4
logged on as root, everything opens fine. Thanks for any help and/or pointers.

Also, when I try to start xfconfd it gives me this:
    $ /usr/lib/xfce4/xfconf/xfconfd
    (xfconfd:20910: xfconfd-CRITICAL **: Xfconfd failed to start: Unable to autolaunch a dbus-daemon without a $DISPLAY for X11
I also checked the environment variable $XDG-CONFIG-DIRS and it is set correctly, and the xfce4-session installation did not return any error messages.

  • When I log in with another user my wallpaper disappear

Hi, I had this problem with mountain lion and still have it with mavericks
I have three user accounts in my mac mini, one for each person in the family.
When we switch between one user to another the wallpapers disappear showing only a solid background.
It's very annoying to select a wallpaper everytime we log into our account.
I'd appretiate if somebody can help me to fix this.
    Regards, and Happy New Year!

I know of one other topic similar to this. I'm not sure if it was solved.
When things like that revert back to the wrong settings, it is usually that the system cannot write to the preference list file, or in this case, the database.
On the other topic, they tried deleting the desktop database and the desktop.plist, but I don't think it helped.
If you are seeing this across the board for all users, it has to be something else interfering.
Please try booting into Safe Mode and try changing desktop pictures, then switch users.
Some things do not work in Safe Mode, and it might appear sluggish.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564
If it works in Safe Mode, it is third-party software interfering.
    FYI:
The database is in your user/Library/Application Support/Dock folder: desktop.db
The preference list is in your user/Library/Preferences folder: com.apple.desktop.plist

  • Local apps crash when logged in as Xserve user - HELP!

I run a new elementary school mac lab: 24 eMacs (OS 10.4.2) as managed users/groups with remote home directories on an Xserve. We run the programs locally and save to the server. Many of our apps are crashing leaving the OS fine. These are new OSX educational titles from various quality vendors including The Learning Company (Kid Pix Deluxe 4, Storybook Weaver Deluxe) and Tom Snyder Productions (Neighborhood Map Machine). And these are the only apps run so far! Our eMacs have 512 MB Ram. I use an iMac G5 with 1GB Ram as the instructor. These apps quit ALOT; however, when logged in as an administrator to the local machine, the apps do NOT quit. I've tried the various solutions posted in the Tiger discussions regarding font removal and system cache cleaning...to no avail. I'm beginning to think it may be server-related. HELP!!!

"System Administrator" is the system access for the xserve. "Administrator" is your system access for the user/client computers, when logged in as that, it allows you access to the system "no restriction". I use one "name" for system access for all servers and clients on campus. I have alot of older applications that we run that have their own issues but not permissions, they run under OS 9. Newer apps like Mavis Beacon16 and Carmen SanDiego I had to tweak, I run them server based. I assume you have Apple Remote Desktop running. Set one of your lab computers up as a back up administrator/tester with ARD and all the server apps installed. I had all my new iMac G5 go bad (Bad Capacitors) and they were my Admin computers. Tweak one app at a time, get it running the way you want it to. Have a student abuse/test the app. Once it works correctly shoot the app to the other clients via ARD. This way your only fixing on machine. Setting Read/Write is a quick fix to get them up and running, But you are opening up the applications to the students who a very creative and never read dialog boxes. If you leave them open you will have to reinstall them occasionally to get them working again. I have had students change the name of a file and the app quits working. That is the major problem of Read/Write.

could be a corrupt computer list. We have run into this quite a bit. Create a new computer list, not from a template, add the apps and see what happens.
