Can Oracle 8.1 install at window XP?

dear all,
i would like to know if the Oracle 8.1 for NT/2000 can be installed for window XP or not?
thanks
moises

Yes! You can install Oracle 8.1 on WindowsXP. Then
only problem I've found is that the OracleStart
service give you an error during start up. This is
not a problem, Oracle instance start up corectly even
if there is this error.
I still get the same behaviour running Oracle9i (9.2.0.1.0) on XP. But only when I attempt to start after not having stopped the db properly before (e.g. by simply restarting or shutting down the pc without caring about the Oracle services running in the background).

    Finally the install is successful.Congratulations.
And thank you for posting your solution. The security issue was quite a surprise to me as well, although it ties into a PC World article I read today.
To continue, please make sure you have a static IP address. If your system uses DHCP, that may mean setting up Loopback Adapter, configuring a static IP address other than 127.0.0.1 for that (for example you can use 192.168.123.101), and updating C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts. (note - no 3 char 'type on the hosts file) to include an entry like '192.168.123.101 myhost.example.com myhost', and perhaps setting your ORACLE_HOSTNAME variable. This is all described well in the Install documentaiton at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e10843/reqs.htm#BABIAEEC

  • Can Oracle 9i be installed on non-server Mac OS 10.3?

    Hello All,
I apologize if I'm repeating questions, but I've combed the forums for an answer to this question and I've been unable to find much info.
I need to install Oracle 9i on my Ti PowerBook (10.3.2, 1 GHz G4 processor, 1 GB RAM). I want the DB server in addition to the client. All the documentation I found refers to 10.2 server.
Has anyone done this successfully? I'm currently taking a Java course devoted to JDBC and JSP. The instructor chose Ora 9i as the DB. I'm the only non-Windows XP machine in the class. Fortunately the instructor is a UNIX user, so he's fine with me using my Mac. He's even agreed to let me use MySQL in this isolated case. However, I'd really like to get Ora working if I can.
Any information anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Larry Polk

  • Re: Portege M800 - can't get bluetooth installed in Windows 7

Hi, I have a portege M800 PPM81C-07602D. It came with windows vista but I have reinstalled it to windows 7, and now I can't get the bluetooth drivers to install. I've tried the old vista drivers as well as the newer windows 7 drivers, but whenever I run the install I get the message "Please plug in the bluetooth device and click ok button."....If I click ok it just pops up again. I don't know why it wouldn't be finding the internal bluetooth....I dont think there's a physical on/off switch for the BT anywhere, and I looked to see if it had been disabled in the bios but there was nothing in there about it...so...I'm out of ideas.
Anyone have any thoughts I can try?
    Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Toshiba Bluetooth stack can be installed if the BT module is enabled properly so use FN+F8 key combination to enable BT module.
After doing this BT should be recognized and installed properly (you will se BT entries in device manager).

  • Can LabView Japanese be installed on Windows XP MUI with Japanese as the default language?

I recently set up a computer for a client in Japan using Windows XP PRO MUI version.  When they tried to install their Labview Japanese, it "turned into garbled characters."
From the Microsoft link it appears there are some differences between a fully localized Japanese Windows and the MUI version"
    on localized versions:
The user interface resources are fully localized.
    The
Windows Setup information, such as system locale, user locale, keyboard
layout, etc. is customized for the specific language/country. This is a
policy setting with the Multilingual User Interface Pack.
Additional country specific device drivers are added in the East Asian versions only.
    There
is support for upgrades from localized versions of Windows 9X or
Windows 2000 to localized Windows XP. MUI only supports upgrades from
    English versions.
Because the resources used in a localized
version are used to create MUI, there is no difference between the
actual translations. This results in a nearly full localization, apart
from small elements that are still dependent on:
    INF files.
UI strings stored in the registry.
    etc.
My question: Should it be possible to install Japanese Labview on top of Windows MUI with Japanese set as the user language and default language?  My assumption was Yes, but now they appear to be unable to get this to work.  Are there specific workarounds, policy changes, or drivers that can be done to get this to work?
Thank you in advance for any help or insight you can provide, or if you can point me to a better place to post this (I don't know Japanese myself).

    Hi,
Here you have some interesting tutos about foreign languages in LV :

  • Oracle 10G client Install on Windows

We recently had our Oracle client upgraded from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10G. Now when we sign into the Oracle Enterprise Manager Console, select a user schema and right click on a table to View/Edit Contents, the records display but when i select a record and try to right click to Add Row / Delete all i get is a solid gray bar, so i can't delete the record. I am thinking this may be a permission problem of how the client was installed, but have no idea where to start. Any help from anyone will be greatly appreciated.

  • Can applications run or install in Windows PE?

I'm trying to create a Windows 8.1 image for a tablet.  To make the image work for multiple computer models, I tried adding a WMIC query to filter the drivers by model.   However, it fails and crashes to the red screen when I try to use it.  It
appears that WMI queries do not work on this system unless you install the "WMI Provider" application.  This is an EXE installer.  I tried importing the driver files in the application folders, but it still failed to work.
The deployment guide for the tablet says:
"If BIOS access via WMI is needed when in a WinPE environment, the HP ElitePad 1000 WMI Provider needs to be installed or
added to the boot image prior to any WMI access. See the HP ElitePad 1000 WMI Provider documentation for details on
    setup and usage."
However the "documentation" is not helpful.  It basically is only a readme text file that says click on the setup file and follow the prompts.
Can exe based applications be installed in a WinPE 5.0 environment?
Is there another way to do this so I don't have to have a separate task sequence for each model of computer using this Windows 8.1 image?

I need to correct a few assumptions listed above.
    1. Drivers that are installed *only* via a *.exe wrapper program won't work with the built-in MDT driver framework. If they are non-critical drivers, you can install them during the State Restore phase of MDT. If they *Are* boot critical, you will need to
    extract them out.
    http://keithga.wordpress.com/2013/12/09/mdtosd-driver-management-overview/
    2. the WMI provider *IS* available for MDT LitetouchPE_???.wim images, so I don't understand your comment above that WMI is not. Unless you are talking about a specific WMI provider add-on for the ElitePad 1000, which I doubt.
    3.  Additionally, you can't install drivers for the full OS from Within the WinPE phase, that would install the drivers into WinPE, not the full OS.
    4. Listen to Johan.

How about going with a virtual machine, try linux. If you're using x64 hardware the linux version is about the only choice for XE anyway.
Virtual Box is pretty easy, at least for me much easier than some of the other virtual machine programs. Again, can't say much about how well it works for Win8 but try it and see ... https://www.virtualbox.org/
