Can anyone tell me:-
Which Oracle is compatible with Windows Millennium? Is it Oracle 8i or 9i?

No version of Oracle has been certified on Windows ME-- it's likely that no version ever will be.
Either or both might install and might work for whatever your definition of work is. It's likely, though, that some features and functionality of each won't work on ME-- whether that's functionality you want/ need is impossible to know without trying.

A database can work only in one mode at a time.
If the database is started in Dedicated Mode then it can not run in the Shared Mode. If you need to run it in the Shared Mode, bring down the Database , change DISPATCHERS, SHARED_SERVER, SHARED_SERVER_SESSIONS parameters in initfile and bring up the database to run it in Dedicated Mode.
But there is one catch here, if you have started the database in Shared Server Mode even then you can make a Dedicated connection to server.

Installing Oracle 8i on Windows Millenium

Can anyone out there please help me?
I tried installing Oracle 8i Enterprise edition on a PC but it wouldn't install as it kept on going back to the previous "Install/Deinstall" products screen. I tried it with Windows 98 and it worked first time.
Can Oracle 8i not run on Windows 98 or is there a patch that should be run before loading Oracle 8i?

It is not possible installing Oracle in WINDOWS ME platform, because this won't support for ORACLE. Unfortunately ORACLE also have no version for WINDOWS ME. If possible, upgrade your OS to WINDOWS 2000 or downgrade to WINDOWS 98 and try it.

Can captivate work with windows application automate tools

Hi,
I am assigned a task to create demos of some web
applications, I do not want to run the application then click and
input manually and am willing to use some windows automate tools to
record my action first, then capture the screen while doing
automation playback.
I've recorded some actions with rational robot, but the
playback is freezed while Captivate is recording. If I stop
Captivate recording, the automation continues flawlessly.
So my question is whether captivate can work with windows
automation tools, if rational robot is not the choice, can anyone
give me some suggestions?

Rational robot is a general-purpose test automation tool (
http://www.ibm.com/software/awdtools/tester/robot/index.html).
It can be used to record user input (mouse clicks, keystrokes,
etc.) and automatically plays back scripts that emulate user
actions interacting with the GUI of applications under test.
There are many other applications doing the same work,
including this one which is written by myself :-) (

Using Captivate with automation tools is an ideal way to
create application demos because the automation scripts can be
easily created. stored and edited. Once I created an automation
script, It can be played as many times as I want.
My purpose is to create demos in the following steps:
1) record user actions interacting with the GUI by an
automation tool;
2) edit automation scripts manually to modify something (ie.
time interval between some actions)
3) start captivate recording;
4) use the automation tool to play back automation scripts
and record the screen by Captivate
5) edit the demo with Captivate
6) finish
But it seems that Captivate is incompatible with all of the
automation tools I've tested (not only Captivate, Turbodemo,
TechSmith Camtasia Studio are also incompatible). The automation
playback is freezed while Captivate is recording. If I stop
Captivate recording, the playback continues flawlessly.
I guess it's something related to windows events processing.
As you can figure out, the automation tools need to capture all the
windows events generated by target applications, it looks like
Captivate also captures some windows events of the target
application and it prevents automation tools from receiving those
events, so the automation playback is freezed.

I have and issue with that too.
I am unable to view WMP files from the internet -
wired. Worked fine with the old router but when the
ABEn was installed. lost abbility to view them. Works

Headphones can't work in windows 7 on mac

I've installed windows 7 (64-bit) on my macbook pro. the problem i'm having when i use it is that there are no sounds at all whenever i connect my headphones to it (in windows 7). all drivers are updated and it is able to detect the headphones (yet no sound). the headphones work fine in mac os.
does anyone have the same problem?

Alrighty, Here ya go! I had this problem also. Got my HP mini 210HD and put Windows 7 on it right away. Brightness wouldn't change, function keys didn't work, brightness slider did nothing.
Solution:
Make sure you download the graphics drivers from HP's website, not Intel's. The brightness setting won't work with the Intel graphics drivers.
Get "Intel Mobile Graphics Driver for Microsoft Windows 7" from HP's website.

Yes, if you can get an s-video cable and plug that into the SCART adapter, that would be better than plugging in composite video.
Clearly, having an SCART connection is not going to "improve" the video going in, you're going to be limited by the lowest quality connection. An s-video connection will provide a higher (but probably not a lot) quality signal than composite video.

Using ipod with windows millenium

Hi
I am having problems with installing ipod mini with my computer. Aparantly ipod requires min of windows 2000 or XP however my computer has windows millenium as operating system.
Having tried to upgrade to XP this resulted in my computer crashing and me having to use the computer recovery disc.
I am scared of trying to upgrade my computer. Is there any way that ipod mini can be used with windows millenium.

It can be done, Shane, but it's not easy.
iTunes won't work under ME, so you'll need a replacement. The iPod Updater, also required to prepare the iPod for Windows use, won't work either under ME. You'll need to install and run the iPod Updater on a computer with Windows XP to get your mini ready.

Oracle 8i (8.1.7) Personal Edition on Windows Millenium wont install

I try to install Oracle 8i (8.1.7) Personal Edition on my
Windows Millenium laptop (PIII, 256MB, 30GB). When running
universal installer, after first initial screen when installer
has loaded G:\stage\products.jar (G drive is my CD drive), I got
the following message (I translated from french, so english text
may be a little bit different):
Invalid intermediate area. No top level component
for Wondows 95 is available to install from this
intermediate area.
The original french message is:
Zone intermidiaire non valide. Aucun composant de
niveau supirieur pour Windows 95 disponible pour
linstallation ` partir de cette zone intermidiaire.
I don't know what to do to correct this problem ! I searched
thru provided documentation without finding anything about this
problem. Note that the message talk about Windows 95 but my
system is a Windows Millenium (4.90.3000) with latest upadtes
from Microsoft installed and with IE5.50.

Not only the Oracle Personal Edition but even the Oracle Client
can not be installed on WinMe. I suspect this may be because the
JVM matter. You can try to install JRE1.3.1 and see if it works.
Remember to add in path and Classpath in Autoexec.bat.

Oracle 10g on Windows 2003: Can't start with any account but Local System

Fresh install of Oracle 10g on Windows 2003. I install as a member of the local admin group and everything works great. The various services are starting as Local System, though, and I'd prefer to set them up to start as a specific domain user account.
When I make that change, however, I can't get any of the Oracle related services to start. I've added this domain user to the local ora_dba group on my server, given it the ability to log on as a batch job and log on as a service in the local security policy. Doesn't seem to help.
I saw a thread that implied using a domain user account wasn't supported (didn't seem right to me, but what the hell), so I created a local user account and tried that. Same result.
Something I'm missing?

If that doesn't work then come back and ask specific requestions referencing the appropriate document and naming the actual version you are trying to install (ps 10g is a marketing name not a version number).

Oracle 9i is desupported.
To the best of my knowledge Oracle 10g is also not supported on Windows 2008.
Go ahead and try installing if it works its great. Of course I will not recommend it for official use.

Each time when you start your computer, you need to restart Oracle as well, its only with Windows XP. The process you have to follow each time is:
Start -->Run and then type CMD to open command prompt.
In command prompt type
svrmgrl and then press
connect internal/oracle and then press
startup force and then press

Intially i am used dbms_scheduler to schedule pl/sql jobs that's working fine,But according to client standards
need to schedule pl/sql jobs using autosys to run on windows, Can Oracle 11g support autosys to schedule pl/sql
jobs run on windows environment(version 5), If so what package oracle package will be used ? How to schedule,

Dbms_scheduler is a much much much more mature product than any thid party tool.
Also, why schedule PL/SQL outside the database (likely exposing passwords) when it can be done inside the database (without exposing password)
Please ask the client why they want by this 'requirement' to stick to obsolete technology.
They pay for dbms_scheduler, and they don't need autosys
(and yes, I consulted autosys documentation for free on your behalf)
Other than that: your request to provide autosys documentation in an Oracle forum must be judged inappriopriate and points to refusal to do your own research.

This is a bug in your version of Discoverer. There is a patch to make it work with windows 2003 or you can upgrade your Discoverer to a later version. The patch should be available from Oracle support. I don't know of anyway to make your version work with 2003.
