Can OS 9 Classic print to PDF?

I have a Word Perfect 3.5 for 0S 9 document on an old Powerbook G4-DVI-800MHz  (the Powerbook is 2002, the document is from 1995) that I can't seem to convert to any format that any version of MS Word from 2003-2011 can read.
OS 9 Classic won't connect to any of my current printers.
I'd settle for printing to PDF, but that doesn't seem to be possible from OS 9.
I thought it was, but I don't remember how.  Does anyone?
Thanks,
Mike

  • I can't seem to print to PDF from other programs.  I have Acrobat 9 (with latest update), Windows 8, and when I try to print to PDF it defaults to a  *.prn file, and when I change the name to *.pdf the file that it produces doesn't open.

    I can print to PDF using PDF995, but not the regular Adobe PDF that comes up in the list of printers.
    I've tried repairing the Adobe installation, but that didn't help.

    It might help to understand the process, though I am almost surprised that AA 9 worked for printing on Win 8 (thanks for that info). Normally the print process is to print to the Adobe PDF printer (without the print-to-file checked). The process does create a PRN file that is actually a PS file. AcroTray (running in the background) completes the process of taking the PS file and running Distiller in the background to create the PDF. If you have problems, you should be able to print to file (assuming the print driver works -- but you indicate it does) and then opening the PRN file in Distiller to create the PDF.

  • Can Adobe Document Services be used to print a PDF attachment.

    Our users want to attach PDF files to DMS documents in SAP.  Can Adobe Document Services be used somehow to print these PDF attachments?

    Hi Steven,
    Yes adobe document services can be used to print the pdf documents .
    ADS supports uploading the offline pdfs and displaying the document in the pdf format in the portal in the iview/IE with all the adobe tool bar where u can find the print option too.
    For impelmenting you any how need all prerequisites .Installation,configuration well done depending the versions.
    Just have a look at the offline scenario in the tutorial below.

  • Printing a PDF via Acrobat Javascript

    Hi -
    I have a need to print a PDF programmatically, via Javascript.  The PDF is embedded in a Web page.  I use postMessage to communicate with the PDF.
    I've created a simple HTML page with an embedded PDF, and a Javascript link to call my "Print" function. Here's a code snippet:
    <body>
             <a href="javascript:doPrint();">Print</a>
             <object id="PDFObj" data="testPDF.pdf" type="application/pdf" width="400" height="400" />
    </body>
    In the HTML document's HEAD, I've added the following Javascript which posts the message to the PDF:
    <script language="JavaScript">
            function doPrint() {
                pdfObject = document.getElementById("PDFObj");
                alert("Hello from Javascript...");
                pdfObject.postMessage(["Print", "Print"]);
    </script>
    Finally, I've added an Acrobat Javascript function in the PDF document to listen for the postMessage event:
    function myOnMessage(aMessage)
        app.alert("Hello from the PDF");
           // print routines here
    var msgHandlerObject = new Object();
    msgHandlerObject.onMessage = myOnMessage;
    msgHandlerObject.onError = myOnError;
    msgHandlerObject.onDisclose = myOnDisclose;
    function myOnDisclose(cURL,cDocumentURL)
    return true;
    function myOnError(error, aMessage)
    app.alert(error);
    this.hostContainer.messageHandler = msgHandlerObject;
    Here's my problem: when I test this code and click the HREF Javascript link, I see "Hello from Javascript..." and "Hello from the PDF," so I know the postMessage event is working.  However, I've tried every print command I know in the myOnMessage function, and nothing seems to work:
    app.execMenuItem("Print"); // doesn't seem to work
    this.print(); // doesn't seem to work, even when I pass in all the params, etc
    I've also tried getting print params and passing those in, nothing seems to work.  Am I missing something?  Environement is Acrobat 9 Pro, browser's tested include Chrome 2.0, IE6.  I've attached two files, the HTML bit and the PDF I'm trying to print.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

    You have to be careful when using the ActiveX control to communicate with system functions like printing.  Because it can be embedded in anything that supports ActiveX, some functionality is limited from being called from JavaScript as it may interfere with the host application.
    Check out the IAC API Reference (also included with the SDK) and the methods under AxAcroPDFLib.AxAcroPDF.  There are some print functions in there (like PrintAll) that you can call on the ActiveX control directly, as in from your doPrint() method in your HTML page without using the hostContainer.  You would basically just call:
    pdfObject = document.getElementById("PDFObj");
    pdfObject.PrintAll();
    These methods were designed specifically to work with the ActiveX control when embedded in a host application, and can be used to print a PDF embedded in a web page.

  • Printing a PDF via Air

    Hey!
    With alivePDF I can create and save from Air a PDF-Document. I can also load this document in a new window in Air. But how can I print it from air?
    Printing via htmlLoader-Object raised the same error like in my post about printing a runtime created htmlloader-Object (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/591929?tstart=0).
    I like to use the start2() from Air2Beta2 option for printing without dialog. but how can i send this pdf content to the print-object?
    Is this possible?

  • Printing to pdf on iPad IPhone

    Why no printing to pdf in iOS? It seems such an obvious option for mobile devices?

    I supose the question is directed at Apple rather than the world at large.
    Why should I go and use another app? Why can't I just print to pdf from iOS Pages or Safari.
    I see now that I raised the same question more than a year ago and also got all kinds of nice and helpful suggestions for "workabouts."
    My question should be "Pages and Safari OSX have the option to print to pdf what keeps Apple from not applying that function in iOS?"

  • Problem w/ cross-browser printing, embedded pdf javascript

    protected static byte[] exportReportToPdf(JasperPrint jasperPrint)
                                                          throws JRException {
      JRPdfExporter exporter = new JRPdfExporter();
      ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
      exporter.setParameter(JRExporterParameter.JASPER_PRINT, jasperPrint);
      exporter.setParameter(JRExporterParameter.OUTPUT_STREAM, baos);
      exporter.setParameter(JRPdfExporterParameter.PDF_JAVASCRIPT,
                  "this.print({bUI: true,bSilent: false,bShrinkToFit: true});");
      exporter.exportReport();
      return baos.toByteArray();
    We are using code like this to export a PDF document from a Jasper application.
    The line
    exporter.setParameter(JRPdfExporterParameter.PDF_JAVASCRIPT,
                 "this.print({bUI: true,bSilent: false,bShrinkToFit: true});");
    adds embedded JavaScript to send the PDF document directly to the printer.
    The expected behavior is that a print dialog will come up with a preview of the PDF document.
    This works fine most of the time - except I am having problems about one out of every 5-6 times in Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox.
    What happens is - the print preview dialog with the PDF document does not appear or it appears with a blank document in the preview window.
    -I've tried a number of different JavaScripts (different params to this.print() via exporter.setParameter -I've tried setting different response headers such as
    response.setContentType("application/pdf");
    response.setHeader("Content-disposition","inline;  filename=\""
                       + reportName
                       + "\"");
    response.setContentLength(baos.size());
    these did not seem to help
    This seems to be an IE and FF issue. Has anyone ever dealt with this problem? I need to get it to work across all browsers 100% of the time. Perhaps a different approach to accomplish the goal of sending the PDF document export directly to the printer? or a third party library that will work across browsers? Thanks for any advice.

  • Printing to PDF=lose tags

    When I print to the Adobe PDF Printer I lose tages in the PDF and cannot copy/paste text. This causes the text in my Kindle books and in the Amazon.com 'Look Inside' feature for KIndle and Paperback to show all text as symbols, numbers... Publisher rejects book.
       What settings to use to maintain tags, normal text functions...
    I want to Print to PDF to 'shrink to fit' the pages in the PDF so I do not have to redo all margins in the book in Microsoft Word.
    This is only for the PDF output, then give to publisher; not for printing at home.

  • Is it possible to retain 100% k when printing to PDF

    I print to pdf with photoshop, illustrator and indesign. i do this to reduce file sizes, mostly to send a proof to a client. however, i also use the pdfs in indesign when preparing large documents that first go to a printer then to go online. depending on the technology the printer is using, i can get away with 'print to pdf' pdfs and their press does not print the black in four color process, but other printers with older technology requests all blacks to be 100% k. It's not a big deal, as i can 'export' to 'smallest file size' with similar outcomes of size for posting online, i was just curious....

    Thank you Mike, I do not work at a printer so am unfamilar with their programs and technology.
    per your notes above: i do export to pdf, i do output Color Conversion set to 'Convert to Destination (Preserve Numbers),
    i do: Destination 'US Web Coated (SWOP) v2 and Don't Include Profiles. Using these settings the pdf will have 100k blacks as 100K in the pdf and the images should have the same values as read in Photoshop.
    i do: have .joboptions provided by some printers
    and i always check my pdfs in Acrobat<output preview.
    however, since posting and per your post, i have figure out....
    if i had created an .ai (advertisement to place in indesign) document using some 100% k elements....
    if i print to pdf in Illustrator: in the 'print' dialog box file<print<setup (with printer: Adobe pdf selected), (window pops up with: 'Continue' or 'Return to Print Dialog') select Continue<Preferences: under default setting choose: PDF/A-1b CMYK, then hit 'OK', then hit 'Print', then you will be back at the original print dialog box, from there go to the 'advanced tab' and choose<overprints<preserve (to eliminate knock-out, which i need to send to a printer.) However, after all that, the ad is still a couple or several megabytes, unlike the regular 'print to pdf' document that will be a couple hundred k or less. It sometimes can be better than orginal .ai placed docs, if they run 10, 20 or more megabytes....

  • How can I set Firefox to print to PDF, the only otions I have are (1) My Canon printer, (2) Fax or (3) Microsoft XPS document writer. There is no option for PDF

    A couple of weeks ago, from the file menu, in my print options was to print a web page to PDF, that facility is no longer there. does anyone know how can I set Firefox to print to PDF.
    The only options I have are (1) My Canon printer, (2) Fax or (3) Microsoft XPS document writer. There is no option for PDF

    Firefox generally displays the printers in Windows' Printers folder (Start orb > Devices and Printers). If it is missing one of the printers listed there, could you indicate which one it is, for example, Adobe Distiller, PrimoPDF, CutePDF Writer, etc.?
    If you previously had an add-on which added print-to-PDF functionality just to Firefox, perhaps it got disabled. You could check here:
    orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Add-ons > Extensions
    Also, are you really running Firefox 8.0.1? That version from last November is no longer secure and has been superseded by Firefox 11. If you browse the web widely, you should update for your security.

    Don't know! You'll have to give us more details of what's happening when you try. Can you print other documents OK? When you try to print, does the printer icon appear in the dock - click on it and see if there are any printer messages.
