Can pages be opened in word program

can pages be opened in a word program?

You have to export a .pages document as  .doc, .rtf or txt.
Only Pages opens .pages files.

The template is a document in itself, it is not applied to an existing document whether it is a Pages document or a Word document converted to a Pages document.
You would need to either copy and paste content, using existing styles, or apply the styles to the converted Word document.
You can Import the Styles from an existing document and those imported Styles can be used to override the current document's styles:
Menu > Format > Import Styles
The process is simplified if the styles use the same names, otherwise you will need to delete the style you don't want and replace it with the one that you do want when asked, then the substitution is pretty straightforward.

    Hi Mary and Matthew
You might find it helpful to "try before you buy" - there is a 30 day free trial offer for Office for Mac 2011, accessible from M's .com website.
You may be able to use this period to open and resave your old documents in a format that enables you to switch instead to using Apple's iWorks apps moving forward.
I initially intended to do something similar, but ended up buying Office as it provided an easier way (for me, at least) to continue working with years worth of old emails, letters, spreadsheets and other documents (from my PC days) without risking damage to their integrity, formatting, etc.

  • Why can't i open a word document on my pad

why can't i open a word document on my pad?  I used to be able to but now I can't.  Is there a setting that I can change?

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank power On again in the normal way.] It is absolutely/appsolutely safe!

  • Pages keeps opening in Word

All of my Pages documents (which were saved in Pages and have a .pages extension) open in Word. I have done the get Info and selected open with Pages. However, when I try to do a "change all" it reverts back to Word. If I control click on document, Word is at the top although Pages is listed as an option with default in parenthesis. To make matters worse, when Word opens it says the document was saved in a newer version of MIcrosoft Office and asks if I want to convert it. If I try to convert it, it won't open the document. I have deleted com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist and com.apple.iWork.Pages.LSSharedFileList.plist, but the problem persists. It is limited to the main user account; it does not occur in my test account. Anyone have any other suggestions?
    Thank you.

IT happens to me too, and I have tried all the options one might usually have to resolve this. Numbers, incidently, doesn't have this problem -- once you select Open with Numbers, all the documents (.xls or .numbers open with Numbers).
This problem is specific to Pages and restoring, cleaning, checking user accounts, etc seems to have no effect. It simply converts back to Word.
I haven't found a way to fix this, other than no longer double clicking on pages documents to open them, since they will open in Word -- I drag the documents to the Pages icon instead and everything opens correctly. But the Info tab, change all to open with Pages does NOT stick.
Here is another thread on the same thing. Incidentally, this is NOT a one or two person problem -- a search of the internet reveals hundreds of users having this same problem. It certainly is a bug, and it certainly needs to be fixed, and running a problem like ONYX does NOT resolve this problem.
Trashing Pref files does nothing. Uninstalling and reinstalling the software does nothing. It simply is a bug in the system for some users.

  • After down loading os 10.7, I can no longer open microsoft word

After down loading os 10.7, I can no longer open microsoft word

No, your old Word files should still be where you left them and can be opened by either a current version of Office:mac or even Apple Pages (more or less).  The problem that you are having (we think) is that you are trying to run an older version of Microsoft Office:mac (e.g. Office:mac 2004 or older) and this software was compiled for a PowerPC processor.  The last few versions of the Mac OS has allowed PowerPC programs to run on an Mac with an Intel processor through a translation system called Rosetta that converted PowerPC code to Intel code.  However, Apple stopped providing that software in 10.7 so any PowerPC applications will no longer run.
Office:mac 2008 and Office:mac 2011 will run on an Intel-based Mac and therefore will run on 10.7.

  • Pages Files opening in Word

    Hi There,
I'm new to pages but so far I love it especially for designing things. But right now I'm having problems opening .pages files, I have Pages set as the default application to open .pages files. You'd think that with that setting my .pages files would open in Pages, but for some reason it always opens in Word. When this happens I get a bunch of error messages. The only way to avoid this is to right click > open with > Pages. Is there any way to fix this?

This is not unheard of & this confusion of OS X is often due to not using Disk Utility to repair permissions after a system update. So first, I suggest repairing permissions. You'll find Disk Utility in Applications > Utilities.
Then, highlight a known Pages document in the Finder, highlight it & choose Get Info from the File menu. In the Get Info box, click the triangle next to "Open With." Click on this drop-down menu & choose Pages. If Pages is not a choice, choose "Other" & navigate to the Pages application. Now click the "Change" button under the text that asks if you want to open all documents like this with Pages. You might check more than one document &, even, restart your Mac. Restarting can clear up a lot of little issues.

  • I can no longer open MS Word. How to restore?

    Hi,
A while ago, maybe a year, I purchased Microsoft Office for Mac. I got Word, Excel and a few other things. I used Word fairly frequently to read .docs. I noticed a couple of months ago I can no longer open Word. I always get an error box 'Microsoft Word cannot be opened because of a problem.' Doesn't say what problem is. My guess is I accidentally deleted something critical to opening and using Word.
I would like to re-install the software. The problem is I can't find the MS Office discs. I do not know if I purchased discs or a download. I know that I purchased it but can't remember how and don't seem to have any evidence.
Excel opens and works fine. And I see the Word icon in my 'Applications'. But won't open.
Is there some way I can find out how I purchased this thru Apple and get a back-up download or something? Is there some registration number or proof of purchase attached to a file on my computer I can use to get a replacement download?
Would/Could I have purchased this as part of a larger purchase -- it's not part of the Snow Leopard Box Set is it? Does not seem to be.
    Thanks.

Check your credit card(s) invoices. You need to keep them for more than 1 year anyway, for tax purposes. You probably can access them on-line.
Is there some way I can find out how I purchased this thru Apple
You're begging the question -- did you purchase it from Apple? Not particularly likely.

  • Opening Wrong Word Program for Attachments

My wife has a new iMac-intel. We installed office X, but had not started using it. The first email she received had a word document. She opened it and it was opened in Word 2003 which is a trial version. I moved Office 2003 to the trash and now every time she trys to open an attachment that is a word document it says it can not find the application, and she has to select Word X as the application. Is there a way to make Word X the default app to open a .doc file? Thanks.

    Stanley
Control-click on the document icon in the message window, and select "Open With..."; Choose "Other" and then navigate to the Word Document Icon in the Office X Folder and select that.
    Or
Save the document to a folder and then open in a Finder window. Highlight the document icon and choose get info from the "File" menu. Choose "Open With...", select "Other" and navigate to the Office X folder and select the Word icon there.
You can then specify to use Word in Office X for all similar documents.

  • Why can't I open some word docs on the iPad2?

Someone at my work has an iPad2. He has a problem of not able to open some word docs. Does anyone reconize this and what is the solution? Thank you.

Is there an app installed that's capable of reading Word and other Office files such as QuickOffice or DocsToGo?

  • I updated to iTunes 10.5 on Vista. As with iTunes 10.0, The DEP will not allow iTunes to open.  WHEN IS APPLE GOING TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE?  I can't update my telephone or iPod.  I can't even open the iTunes program!!!

I am sick of dealing with this issue.  I wish not that I had never even started using any Apple products, beginning with iTunes.  WHEN IS APPLE GOING TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AND MAKE ITUNES SOMEHOW COMPATIBLE WITH DEP IN WINDOWS VISTA?
That being said, Is there any way to resolve this?  What I did in the past is completely wipe ALL Apple files from my computer, and install an older version of iTunes.  It was at least functional.  It seems that any version of iTunes 10.0 or more recent is not compatible with the Data Execution Prevention in Windows.  You can not remove iTunes from DEP, yet DEP prevents iTunes from running.
The down side is that I can't get the latest updates for my iPhone or iPod.  Now, I have a new phone for my husband that needs syncing on my iTunes, and I can't do that because iTunes won't even open.
Can somebody help me out with this, please?

OK, lets do a complete overhaul to make sure it's working ok.
First to check your Windows system file for any corruption:
Go to command prompt (START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES right mouse click "command prompt" and choose "Run as Administrator"
    type in
    sfc /scannow
let Windows fix any system files that need to be repaired.
    Restart the computer.
Start iTunes and see if it is ok.
If it doesn't, will have to go through the whole process of uninstalling and installing acccording to the following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
(Referenceinstructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components)
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • Can Pages stack up to Word?

Can anyone help me discern the benefits of Pages over Word? I almost Love the Application, but I'm so used to Word that it makes me sick. I wish there were a set of DVD tutorials that cover Pages from top to bottom. Any suggestions?
    Walt.

Word & Pages are aimed at different audiences, but that doesn't stop people from comparing them. Personally, I can't stand Word, never have. It's too "in your face" & makes it difficult to do things differently than the Microsoft programmers think you should. As much as I love Pages, there are still things I find easier to do (at least in less steps) in AppleWorks.
This Wiki article has a good comparison.

  • Why can't i open Microsoft word since I downloaded the LION

My Microsoft 2004 does not work with the new Lion.  Is this true?

Thanks -- will do.  But if I want to save a bunch of old e-mails that are in Entourage, can you think of a way for me to do that?  I.e., I could presumably somehow dump Lion (I would guess by trashing my hard drive) and reinstalling everything from a pre-Lion Time Machine back-up, then convert select e-mails to a Word file.  I could upgrade Word to Mac 2011 and then reinstall Lion some time in the future.  (I assume I'd have to pay for it again, but hopefully I'm wrong.)  Thoughts?  BTW, I don't actually know the steps involved to delete my hard drive and reinstall from a Time Machine back-up, and will probably call AppleCare for help walking me through that.
