Can PE9 burn Blu-ray files to DVD?

I do not have a Blu-ray burner and do not anticipate getting one for a year or two.  I was not able to burn or copy Blu-ray files in PE7 and ask if it can be done in PE9.  I did download the trial version of Sony Vegas HD Movie Studio Suite and was able to burn the Blu-ray files to the hard drive and to a DVD; that DVD played brilliantly on both Samsung and LG Blu-ray players.  I have a lot invested in Premier over the years and would prefer to upgrade.
The machine is 2.67ghz dual core, 4gb of RAM and a 500gb RAID 0 hard drive with more than 175gb free.

Lots of other posts on this subject in this forum
Yes it can - but
My first attempt played on other players except my new Pioneer player. (Full HD)
The video on the disk was perfect on my computer.
I copied the file produced on the Blue Ray disk and used a simple authoring program (PowerProducer that cam with my burner) to burn another disk.
This plays perfectly in everything.
The only thing I can think of is that my LG player can write at 8x but I only had 4x blank disks (they are much cheaper). PE9 does not have any speed setting so perhaps the "grooves" werent burnt deep enough??
or the name of the main folder on a PE9 burnt disk is different - maybe my player did not like it??
I have a similar computer setup to you except you definately need at least 2 hard drives. The video on one and the project on a second one.
You need a good fast video card for HD smooth preview, not just the one on the motherboard.
Also look at recent posts on memory settings for resources.
I split my raid up to 2 seperate disks and installed a third large disk for video capture files
OS & PE9 on C
Video on E
Project and adove cache files on F
LG computer burner is available for around $100

  • Can you burn Blu-Ray on a standard DVD?

I know Encore won't build a Blu-Ray movie to a DVD disc but I've seen some ppl say you can use the freeware program ImageBurn to burn the Encore build to a standard DVD as long as its small enough to fit.
The reason why I want to do it is make short HD demos of my video work on a standard DVD that can be viewed on a Blu-Ray player. DVD media is a lot cheaper than BR 50 cents vs $10 a disc and I aslo don't own blu-ray burner. For longer videos I can use a Dual Layer DVD for clients who want a HD option.
Some ppl say absolutely no, while other say yes. Someone outlined how to do it but it didn't work for me, although I only used the last part of the instructions to burn because I was using Encore to build folder or iso, while the instructions are intended for ppl ripping a retail Blu-Ray.

I'm filmed my own legit HD content, encoding it as the proper mpeg-2 blu-ray format, authored it in Encore CS3, built a blu-ray folder or iso, and using ImageBurn to wrote it to a standard DVD. All of that worked but when I took it to Best Buy their Blu-Ray player wouldn't recognize the DVD.

For what it's worth, I've been able to burn an ENcore BluRay .iso and then used Imgburn to burn the .iso to a regular DVD and it played on a SONY BDP S300.
Sometimes the firmware in the player has to be updated.

I wasn't able to burn a "folder" to a regular DVD, but only the .iso.
Also this thread where apparently the .iso can be burn to a dual layered DVD.

  • Can Leopard burn blu-ray data disc?

Leopard defines types for Blu-ray discs in the header for the disc recording service.
Can Leopard burn a blu-ray data disc?

Since no Mac ships with Blu-Ray drives built-in, there's no automatic support for Blu-Ray.
However, there are several third-party applications that support burning Blu-Ray disks, including Toast.
Many after-market Blu-Ray vendors ship a copy of Toast with their burners (after all, what's the use of the burner if you can't write data to it? )

  • Can't Burn Blu-Ray

I recently filmed a wedding, edited in Premiere CS5, and encoded to  MPEG-Blu-Ray (.m2v files). I created a project in Encore CS5 and clicked  Build when I was ready. After it built the menus, it tried to begin the  burn. However, before it began, I received a "Blue-ray Error device not  ready Code 3 note AS storage error -97060" message. There is hardly  anything online about this. I have a Pioneer BDR-206 12x burner, and am  using Verbatim 25GB BD-R discs. I also tried some Optical Quantum 25GB  4x discs, with the same error. I then updated the firmware of the  burner. The project is only 14GB. I've heard that having long file names  can sometimes mess things up, but all mine are less than 10 characters.  I also tried building a blu-ray folder, and burning that in Nero 10,  but still got the same results. My guess is that it's the burner, but I  can successfully burn DVDs with it. I've also used the same verbatim  discs successfully. I can't even do a disk error check in windows,  because of a non-descriptive error. I wish there were more on this error  in the manual. Any feedback would be appreciated!

As well as the below, right click the Encore icon and select Run as Administrator, which is NOT the same thing as running the computer with the Administrator account, and which fixes several "odd" problems
To create a dual layer DVD (or BluRay?), you MUST have Encore set to use the Run as Administrator option

  • Can i burn blu ray data?

so ive read that mac doesnt support blu ray natively. but it CAN burn and read blu ray data (not natively) correct?
im about to get a panasonic UJ240 as an external so i can swap the drive back and forth with my PC as well as take it mobile with me and would like to know what I need to be able to burn discs with my macbook pro (snow leopard). ive read that toast does it, anything else as that software is super expensive. Something simple like Burn? I know burn doesnt do it.

You will need to buy an external Blu-Ray drive, since your iMac doesn't support these disks.
OWC has a selection of Mac-compatible drives.

  • Can't Burn Blu-ray with Share

Content shorter than 20 minutes usually burns ok. Content longer than 20 minutes fails with message "check to see if boot volume has sufficient space." I've tried directly from FCP and via Compressor with same error. Uninstalled and reinstalled and updated latest FCP Studio. Able to burn with Toast 10 but would prefer to use FCP. Name brand discs. Lots of free disk space. No other apps running. Comments welcome. Suggestions other than Encore are welcome. Thanks.

I have actually not had any issues with Share, whether to DVD or Blu-ray HD, particularly in Snow Leopard. I did find the share to MobileMe flakey, as to duration of time required, but don't do that much. There is the oddity that DVD+R media will not work with Create Disc -- only DVD-R.
Creation of the discs are very fast.

There was an error creating your disk image. The operation couldn't be completed. (DSPPublishing error -1012)

I don't have a background image. I called Apple and they had no idea what that error number meant. I deleted preferences for FCPX still didn't work, then delted all preferences and set up a new user. It now works. Apple has no idea what is going on.

  • What do i need to burn blu-rays?

Hello everyone. I'm new to Final Cut Pro, and Macs in general, so please bare with me. I'm a film student, and recently purchased a Canon XH-A1s and a Mac Pro with Final Cut Pro 6 to jump start my video production business.
My only problem is that i only have the ability to produce HD video, so when it comes to distribution, DVD is really not an option. I've heard with an upgrade to Final Cut Pro 7 that you can finally burn Blu-Rays without a third party application, just wondering if that was true.
I was planning on upgrading to Final Cut Pro 7, and purchasing an external, USB Blu-Ray read/write drive. Should everything work ok if i go down that route?
    Thanks everyone,
    -Billy

The Mac does not come with a Blu-ray burner. So you would be burning a Blu-ray compatible file to a standard DVD-5 or DVD-9. Neither of which are ideal for authoring Blu-ray content.
Do an exhaustive search online about Blu-ray authoring and disk creation. This is not something for the hobbyist video creator (and I say hobbyist in the sense that you're not creating thousands of copies for mass distribution, so no one take offense.)
Blu-ray is expensive and requires a lot of planning and prep to do it right. But you can't burn an official Blu-ray disc on a Mac as they stand. And, Compressor doesn't burn discs, it only creates files. DVD Studio Pro would be the app that would burn the Blu-ray disc, and DVDSP has not been upgraded since long before Blu-ray came on the scene.

  • CS6 Error Message When Burning a Blu Ray Project to DVD

    Hi,
I'm trying to burn a Blu Ray project to DVD and I'm getting this message when I try to build the project:
The project is an excerpt from a larger one and contains only 2 video files and no menus. However it's particularly worrying because the project from which this is an excerpt is large and complex. I have created it as a Blu Ray project but my final deliverable is DVD. I really don't want to have to rebuild as a DVD project because it took half a day to link up all of the menus and chapters.
Is there something I need to do in my encode settings?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for your reply John.
It's extremely frustrating that this is the case. I'd have started with a DVD project in the first place had I not read this: http://helpx.adobe.com/encore/using/building-finished-project.html , specifically the following excerpt:
"You can build the same project to DVD and Blu‑ray formats no matter which format you select in the New Project or Project Settings dialog box. Encore makes the appropriate adjustments to transcode the elements to the correct format."
Reading that gave me the confidence to go ahead and build as a Blu Ray. I now have to find another half day to rebuild the project as a DVD.
    Thanks again for the information.

  • How do I change file format so I keep HD and can play on blu ray player?

how do I change file format so I keep HD and can play on blu ray player?

    Hi
Part of it - in my way of doing is
    Roxio Toast™ Pro incl BD-component.
    • Burn short AVCHD - on standard DVDs (20-30 minutes at HD quality) - NEED Blu-Ray player to be viewed
or BD-burner and disks - for full Blu-Ray Disks (not got to this yet)
I think that saving as .mpeg4 H.264 and save on USB-memory to be put into PlayStation3 also keep high quality playback.

  • Best workflow for burning Blu-ray and DVD

    Hi,
What's the best workflow for effciency sake for burning both a Blu-ray and a DVD of the same project?
Essientially I'd like to export and create a menu once, then be able to downrez to DVD. However, I'm not sure that is possible since blu-ray and DVD are differnt codecs.
    Thank you

The only way that you can get acceptable re-scaling of menus is to go from BR to DVD, and do the editing in Photoshop.  Simply re-scaling the menu here will not give acceptable results.
I usually copy the various button layers from the BR menu to a new DVD menu file created using the provided Photoshop preset.  You will still have to do  some manual re-scaling and alignment.  The thing that has given me the most trouble over the years is round button highlights - a segment is often chopped off.  Font sizes will probably need adjusting too.
Unless you are adept with handling layers and groups within Photoshop, it may be easier to start again.
Any attempt to convert within Encore is unlikely to produce acceptable menus in my experience.

As far as I know, motion templates can only be used with DVD Studio Pro. FCP X only lets you add a background image to the DVD menu.
