Can Photo Stream be a sort of a backup?

Can iCloud's Photo Stream feature serve as a sort of backup of the photos I take on my iPhone?
For example, I take 50 photos on my iPhone and they get uploaded to Photo Stream. Then within 30 days I turn my PC on and they get downloaded to the PC. Will they stay on my PC forever?
In other words, can Photo Stream kind of replace iCloud's Camera Roll backup for photos? Thanks.

Yes you could do that, but if ever you forget or something stops you, you may well lose some photos. Personally I'd keep the back up running.

If I put pictures on my iMac can photo stream send them to my other devices?

Of course. However, note that you need iPhoto '11 or Aperture 3 on your iMac, and that the other devices must be an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with iCloud, another Mac with iPhoto '11 or Aperture 3 and OS X 10.7.2 or later, or a PC with iCloud Control Panel.
The first thing you have to do is to upload your photos to Photo Stream, but first you need to enable Photo Stream > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2710
Then, to add photos to Photo Stream, open iPhoto and drag the photos you want to "iCloud" or "Photo Stream" in the iPhoto or Aperture sidebar. This will make that your photos appear on other devices, so just go to them and copy them to the internal memory, because Photo Stream deletes your photos after 30 days. If you have got an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, you can find your photos in the Photos application, and in a PC, you can find them in My Pictures folder.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Photostream in the cloud only keeps photos from the last 30 days (subject to a 1,000 photo limit). When photostream syncs the photos to your device they will stay there until deleted, which means you may well have more photos in your photostream album on your device than there are in photostream in the cloud.
The consequence of this is that if you turn photostream off and on again on your device (or enable it for the first time), it will only be populated with photos from the last 30 days, which may not be all the photos that were previously in the photostream album on that device.

  • Can photo stream folders be on a network drive?

  • Can photos in iPhoto be sorted on iPhone 4S

Prior to IOS5 if I had my photos sorted by name in iPhoto on my MAC they would then be in the same order on my iPhone. Ever since that update I have not been able to figure out the order they sort in. Isn't by name & isn't in date order either.  Is there anyway to get the photos to sort without having to do a whole lot of work on my iPhoto library?

Reenable the password and then disable it. The message should no longer appear.

I have deleated a lot of pictures but i deleated these pictures like ond month ago. Pelase help me to get the photos back!

they probably can be recovered just not with your iPad. Youi'll need to use a computer and some sort of 'undelete' software. I don't have a specific one to recommend but you can google

  • Can I upload videos to Photo Stream

Can I upload videos to Photo Stream?

Photo Stream IS NOT a backup. It will only show the last 1000 photos taken on your iPhone. And no, you cannot "upload" video to photo stream.
If you need to backup, use iTunes. Your videos will not be backed up, but they will be synched.

  • HT201317 Cant find photo stream in iPhoto

Ipad, Iphone have photo stream but cant seem to find it on my Mac in iphoto.  There is nothing on the left handside menu for photo stream.  Is there anything I need to do to have it appear or am I looking in the wrong place for it.  Just returned from vacation where I loaded all photos off my camera to my iPad thinking I can photo stream them to my Mac later so stumped as to where to go from here.
    Appreciate any advice.

To use photostream on your Mac, you need OS X 10.7.2 or better and the latest version of iPhoto. Do you meet these requirements.

  • Photo Stream not showing all my photos.

I recently misplaced my iPhone 5 but because it was near the end of the contract I took another one out and bought the IPhone 6. When I got the phone I thought all my pictures if not some would be in the photo stream but they're not so every single one of my pictures throughout the years have gone.
IS there anyway that the other pictures from the Photo Stream can be recovered because it means a lot to me.

If the Photo Stream photos that are missing are over a month old, or if you had more than 1000 photos, then they are no longer on the Photo Stream. The Photo Stream is not designed as a backup for your photos. It's primary purpose is to share photos among devices signed onto the same iCloud account. If the missing photos were on your Camera Roll as well, and you have an iCloud backup, you can restore to that backup.
If they were not, and you did not import your photos to your computer, then they are gone. Sorry

  • Photo Stream showing not my photos

Hi! I suddenly find photos belonging to people unknown to me in my iPhone 4S Photo Stream. I do not use Photo Stream for my own photos. In iCloud on my iMac the Photo Stream option is not even tick-marked. On the iPhone though My Photo Stream, Documents & Data options and Find My iPhone are the only options under iCloud On. I have a very strong password and my home Wi-Fi is also password protected. What is going on?

If the Photo Stream photos that are missing are over a month old, or if you had more than 1000 photos, then they are no longer on the Photo Stream. • HT4847 I need to free up space in my iCloud - most of it is used by photos - if I stop backing up my camera roll will it send the photos to my photo stream?? I already backup all photos on photo stream on my macbook??

so if I stop backing up my camera roll and delete the ones stored on icloud - will it still send all new photos taken to my photostream?? I already save the photos on my macbook.
    thanks sheri

Yes, Photo Streams work independent of the iOS Backup.
But a better way to manage your photos would be best. Use Camera Roll for new photos only like we used to do with the old film cameras. Once your Photos are organized into iPhoto on your Mac sync them back to the iPhone through iTunes. The photos in the Photo Library on the iPhone are not included with the iOS Backup since they should be already backed up in the computer's backups.

  • I made a photo book in iPhoto and would like to transfer the book to my iPhoto on other macs and iPad.   How is this done and can it be synced between devices like photo stream.

I made a photo book in iPhoto and would like to transfer the book to my iPhoto on other macs and iPad.   How is this done and can it be synced between devices like photo stream?

You can create a Quicktime movie slideshow of the book's pages and share that. Here's how to get your book into an iPhoto slideshow and then export as a Quicktime video:
1 - While viewing the book type Command+P to start the print process.
2  - click on the PDF button and select "Save PDF to iPhoto".
Note:  If you don't have any of those options go to Toad's Cellar and download these two files:
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Unzip the files and place in the HD/Library/PDF Services folder and reboot.
3 - select either of the files above (300 dip is used for photos to be included in a book that will be ordered).
4 - in the window that comes up enter an album name or select an existing album and hit the Continue button.
That will create a 200 or 300 dpi jpeg file of the item being printed and import it into iPhoto. Immediately select all of the photos in the new album and sequentially renumber them as "Page  " using the Batch Change ➙ Title to Text with the option to add a sequential number to each title.  This is to let you put the pages back in the correct order in the event they get sorted incorrectly.
Now you can proceed as follows: create the slideshow in iPhoto and export it out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large (480p with iPhoto 9),

  • HT201317 Is it possible to sort pictures in shared photo streams?

I am starting to use this "shared photo streams", and I think it's nice.
But I can't find out how to sort pictures in the shared photo streams... - Is it possible?
    Thank you.
    Best regards.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Photostream photos are displayed in the order they are added. The only way to sort them would be to remove them from the album and add them back in the order you want.

  • Why does iPhoto change the sort order of the photos in my album when I attempt to share via Photo Stream?

Why does iPhoto change the sort order of the photos in my album when I attempt to share via Photo Stream?

Did anyone find a good way to sort the shared albums better, so that the ones you share with can better find their way around.
You can arrange them manually in an album, select all and use the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Date to menu option and check the box to add a set interval between photos. That will let the photos be sorted by date and be in the order you want:
