Can Photoshop CS3 Cut Chromatic Aberration (Purple Fringing) On Hi-Contrast Photos?

Some cameras such as the Panasonic FZ38 claim to eliminate chromatic aberration (purple fringing on high contrast pictures) from their lenses electronically.
If that is so, I would have thought that an app like PS CS3 (which has far more computing power) might be able to do the same.
Can it do this simply and quickly? I am fairly sure it can be done manually by spending hours retouching . . . . but that's not what I want!

Chromatic Aberration - Purple Fringing

I've tried trawling the web and the Apple help for this but to no avail. I have a few random photos trying out new lenses which are coming up with purple fringing. Using other image editors I've been able to get rid of it, but the CA tool in Aperture 3 doesn't have purple - I'm sure you could make it from Red/Cyan and Blue/Yellow but not with just two sliders so I've been unable to get rid of it without resorting to exporting or lots of different desaturating tips and tricks. I found the halo adjustment brush but that seems burn the image while it removes the halo, so all in all I'm not having much luck.
Has anyone found a good process for removing purple fringing in Aperture 3? If so I'll pay good points for help.

Hi Kirby no I don't see the same in RAW shots with the same lens/body combo. It may be that Aperture's RAW converter is doing a great job and removing the CA before I can see it, or it may be that it was just the light / f-stop / shutter speed that day which contrived to give such obvious fringing around the blond hair of my son. I'll post some pics tonight to show you what the jpeg looks like, but I've been unable to find any in my RAW files.
I do convert my older RAW's to jpegs after I know I'm done editing / marking / scoring / printing them so I can't even go back to older photos and slide the RAW setting back to see if the fringing appears again. Sorry. If we ever see the sun again here in the UK I'll do some test shooting in the garden again and see if I can re-create it.

Can Photoshop CS3 Be Configured To Open Bridge CS4 On Launch?

I used PS CS3 for a couple of years and then bought Photoshop Elements 8 last year because I felt it was more modern, included Bridge CS4, was incredibly cheap and would also do everything I wanted.
I have discovered that PS CS3 has a couple of useful items which are missing in PSE8 so I have just reinstalled it.
I would like to be able to have it automatically launch the newer CS4 Bridge rather than its own version but it won't.
Is it possible to do this?
Alternatively, is it possible to launch CS4 Bridge manually and use it with PS CS3 ?
I have tried but whenever I double click a photo in Bridge CS4 it also opens PSE8.
It looks as though the 2 Bridges are inextricably linked with their own versions of Photoshop/Elements.

I suspect that may be the best answer I am likely to get but have not marked the question as answered just in case someone else can add anything.
Your suggestion does work. I changed JPEG, TIFF and PSD to Photoshop CS3.
The only (quite major) snag is that if I am using Elements and double-click a photo, it opens Photoshop CS3.
This wouldn't matter if I was just using PS exclusively but I also want to use PSE at times.
Looks as though I had better just leave them with their own versions of Bridge.

Can Photoshop CS3 be used with files from Lightroom 5?

I have Photoshop CS3 and I am considering buying Lightroom 5. Does anyone know if output from Lightroom 5 can be processed in Photoshop CS3?

The process engine in LR 5 is equivalent to ACR 8.1(Process version 2012) in PS CS 6 or PS CC.
So if you are using LR 5 you have the equivalent of the latest version of ACR, do all the processing of your raw files with Lightroom. When you are ready to make other advanced editing functions in PS CS3 you use the "edit in function" and a tiff or psd file is rendered by LR and sent to Photoshop.
The only disadvantage is that you cannot use the "edit in function" to make ACR in PS CS3 render the raw file with LIghtroom adjustments, since it is just not capable of reading the full adjustments from LR 5.
PS CS3 uses ACR 4.x (Process version 2003)
This is why you have to use LR to create the tiff/psd file for use in PS CS. In the final analysis when you have completed your work in PS CS you still are left with an additional file tiff/psd.

How do print from photoshop CS3 to my new epson XP520 printer? The photos are now far too dark: never had this problem with any other printers?

Help please. I have a new Epson XP 520 printer and do not know how to set the CS3 print to get good results as my printed photos are now far too dark. Never had any problems with previous printers and despite changing settings have been unable to resolve.

Can Photoshop CS3 Metadata Be Configured To Identify Camera?

My metadata panel gives Camera Data (EXIF) details but does not identify the make and model of the camera.
A few years ago I am sure I was able to see the identity of the camera.
At the time I was using Photoshop Elements 2 and iPhoto 4, together with an Arcsoft application.
I cannot remember which apps displayed the camera identity, but I am sure I didn't dream it!
So is there any way PS CS3 can be configured to reveal this data?

Can Photoshop CS3/4 be run as a background application ?

We use Enfocus Powerswitch to automate pre-press/pre-media workflows for our Photographic studios. The main application called is of course PSH and it always brings itself to the front window even though it's not necessary and wastes time doing it to then perform what ever actions / scripts needed on the pic files.
Is there any way to tell PSH not to come to the front and run in the "Background" ?

Photoshop CS3 makes all my images dark and over contrasted

I am confused here. Just installed CS3 and all my photographs on my monitor look dark and overly contrasted when compared to simply opening the image on the Microsoft viewer. I thought it was a color management thing but it does it even when turing it off. How do I fix this?

I've just upgraded to CS3 (windows Vista) and I'm having the same problem. Images are dark adn have an almost brownish tone to them. I tried "leave as is" "assign RGB" and all the options under "Assign profile" and nothing helped.
How can it be an ICC profile issue if the pictures look fine in CS2?
Please help, right now I'm thinking I blew $199 on an upgrade I won't be able to use.

How can I repair chromatic aberrations in PSE?

how can I please repair chromatic aberrations (the edges around are red, green or violet colored, this might not be) of my Fujifilm Finepix A500, 5,1 MP? I have Photoshop Elements 8 and I can not find a button to remove the aberrations. Can you please tell it step by step. I have not so much experience with PSE 8. I some cases you might be able to remove the aberration with a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. In this example, in the H/S saturation dialog box I selected red from the list and moved the Saturation slider all the way left. This desaturated most of the picture but I then filled the layer with black to restore the original. Then I activated the Paint tool and painted with white over the red portion to restore the desaturation.
I only painted the red on the sweater along the left portion of the table leg so that you can compare it to right portion.
Note: If you paint too far, for example onto the table leg, then undo it by painting with black to restore the original. If you initially set the foreground/background colors to their default black/white values, you can type "X" to toggle between black and white while painting.

Photoshop CS3 and Epson R2400

Since I installed Leo on my Mac Pro, my R2400 will not work as it used to. I can not access the printers option menu where I can setup the paper, printer resolution, etc. When I am printing out of photoshop CS3 I will only get a standard printer menu provided by Mac OS and not by epson. I can´t change any settings and the prints come out terrible. I use the latest Epson driver - 6.12 - but nothing works as it should. Does anybody experience the same problems or might have a solution for this? I got plenty of print jobs to do before christmas! Thank you for any hints ... Jochen, Germany

I managed to get my 2400 printing OK now. I spent a completely wasted hour e-talking to Epson UK Support yesterday. They offered nothing useful and spent all the time telling me to do obvious things, which was very frustrating. Then I decided to go back to basics. I ditched all the personalised settings in all the print dialogue boxes and tried printing with only basic settings. I had professional print profiles for each of my papers and printers, but none of these will now work and I think that they were the crux of the problem.
This is what I did:
Step 1 - I turned off my printer. After ditching the entire Epson folder from the library and restarting Leopard, I downloaded the current Mac drivers from the Epson Support website and started by reinstalling the 2400 from scratch. I turned on my printer. I ran the downloaded installer and then went into Apple/Preferences/printers and faxes and removed the 2400 that leopard had installed with the gutenburg driver. I then installed the 2400 again through this screen and checked that the downloaded Epson 6.12 driver had installed. It had.
Step 2 - I went to page set-up for the photo I wanted to print in Photoshop CS3 and in Format For: I selected Epson Stylus Photo R2400 and in paper size: I selected A4 (sheet feeder - borderless) and clicked OK
Step 3 - I selected File/print. In Printer I selected Epson Stylus Photo R2400. In colour handling I selected Printer Manages Colour and in Rendering Intent I selected Relative Colorimetric. The I pressed the Print button.
step 4 - I then pressed Proceed in the larger than paper dialogue box taht then appeared and this closed.
Step 5 - This brings you to the Epson Printer Dialogue box. I selected the Print Settings section and selected Premium Glossy Photo paper as the Media Type. In colour settings I selected Epson Standard (sRGB). and selected the Advanced radar button below and best photo as the print quality. When I pressed print I got a good quality print....and it seems to work every time now!
I have also tried this with my Epson 950 and it also works. In fact I am getting better prints with this one than I was before Leopard!
Don't ask my why it is working this way. I don't know. I used to let Photoshop CS3 manage the colour using my profiles, but this will not work now. I suspect that as my profiles were done in tiger they are Tiger dependent. I will contact my supplier next week and discuss this with him. I am still disappointed that I seem to have lost complete control over my printing and blame Apple and Epson in equal measure. From my "discussions" with Epson support it is clear that their "fix" is aimed at the amateur user and not those requiring control over the production phase!

What is the ultimate SSD config for photoshop Cs3 - I´m planning to have an 256SSD combined with the expresscard slot with an SSD as scratchdisk, Will this have a significant speed boast?
Or is 320Gb 7200 the way to go....
( And,can Photoshop Cs3 only use 4 Gigg memory, or 8 Gigg? )
As you can see, i am rather confused - any help greatly apprechiated!

All I know about SSDs and Photoshop is to remind that SSDs are faster for reads and random writes, but many are slower than spinning hard disks for sustained writes, which Photoshop will require. SSD may not be an overall advantage at this time.

Photoshop CS3 will use 3GB directly and take advantage of OS X to use the rest of your RAM as a scratch disk buffer (the linked article still applies to CS3 and 4).

Would like some assistance with removing chromatic aberration from images . In using the slider tool only some of aberration is removed tried brushing in but not successful. After magnifying image 1005 i can still see some slight purple fringing .
