Can Photoshop CS3 Metadata Be Configured To Identify Camera?

My metadata panel gives Camera Data (EXIF) details but does not identify the make and model of the camera.
A few years ago I am sure I was able to see the identity of the camera.
At the time I was using Photoshop Elements 2 and iPhoto 4, together with an Arcsoft application.
I cannot remember which apps displayed the camera identity, but I am sure I didn't dream it!
So is there any way PS CS3 can be configured to reveal this data?

I think if one employs BridgeTalk in JavaScript for Illustrator for example Photoshop need not be brought to front to perform its tasks.
But isn’t that behaviour in this case dependent on the program You use (Enfocus)?

  • Can Photoshop CS3 Be Configured To Open Bridge CS4 On Launch?

I used PS CS3 for a couple of years and then bought Photoshop Elements 8 last year because I felt it was more modern, included Bridge CS4, was incredibly cheap and would also do everything I wanted.
I have discovered that PS CS3 has a couple of useful items which are missing in PSE8 so I have just reinstalled it.
I would like to be able to have it automatically launch the newer CS4 Bridge rather than its own version but it won't.
Is it possible to do this?
Alternatively, is it possible to launch CS4 Bridge manually and use it with PS CS3 ?
I have tried but whenever I double click a photo in Bridge CS4 it also opens PSE8.
It looks as though the 2 Bridges are inextricably linked with their own versions of Photoshop/Elements.

    Thanks John.
I suspect that may be the best answer I am likely to get but have not marked the question as answered just in case someone else can add anything.
Your suggestion does work. I changed JPEG, TIFF and PSD to Photoshop CS3.
The only (quite major) snag is that if I am using Elements and double-click a photo, it opens Photoshop CS3.
This wouldn't matter if I was just using PS exclusively but I also want to use PSE at times.
Looks as though I had better just leave them with their own versions of  Bridge.

  • Can Photoshop CS3 be used with files from Lightroom 5?

I have Photoshop CS3 and I am considering buying Lightroom 5. Does anyone know if output from Lightroom 5 can be processed in Photoshop CS3?

The process engine in LR 5 is equivalent to ACR 8.1(Process version 2012) in PS CS 6 or PS CC.
So if you are using LR 5 you have the equivalent of the latest version of ACR, do all the processing of your raw files with Lightroom. When you are ready to make other advanced editing functions in PS CS3 you use the "edit in function" and a tiff or psd file is rendered by LR and sent to Photoshop.
The only disadvantage is that you cannot use the "edit in function" to make ACR in PS CS3 render the raw file with LIghtroom adjustments, since it is just not capable of reading the full adjustments from LR 5.
PS CS3 uses ACR 4.x (Process version 2003)
This is why you have to use LR to create the tiff/psd file for use in PS CS. In the final analysis when you have completed your work in PS CS you still are left with an additional file tiff/psd.

  • Can Photoshop CS3 Cut Chromatic Aberration (Purple Fringing) On Hi-Contrast Photos?

Some cameras such as the Panasonic FZ38 claim to eliminate chromatic aberration (purple fringing on high contrast pictures) from their lenses electronically.
If that is so, I would have thought that an app like PS CS3 (which has far more computing power) might be able to do the same.
Can it do this simply and quickly? I am fairly sure it can be done manually by spending hours retouching . . . . but that's not what I want!

sorry should have read open with camera raw

They can co-exist. Whether or not without issues will depend on the specifics of the system, of which you have provided none.

  • Can Photoshop CS3/4 be run as a background application ?

We use Enfocus Powerswitch to automate pre-press/pre-media workflows for our Photographic studios. The main application called is of course PSH and it always brings itself to the front window even though it's not necessary and wastes time doing it to then perform what ever actions / scripts needed on the pic files.
Is there any way to tell PSH not to come to the front and run in the "Background" ?

  • SSd & Photoshop Cs3 or what?!

Planning to configure the ultimate Macbook pro 17" for Ps Cs3.... Kinda confused!
What is the ultimate SSD config for photoshop Cs3 - I´m planning to have an 256SSD combined with the expresscard slot with an SSD as scratchdisk, Will this have a significant speed boast?
Or is 320Gb 7200 the way to go....
    ( And,can Photoshop Cs3 only use 4 Gigg memory, or 8 Gigg? )
As you can see, i am rather confused - any help greatly apprechiated!

All I know about SSDs and Photoshop is to remind that SSDs are faster for reads and random writes, but many are slower than spinning hard disks for sustained writes, which Photoshop will require. SSD may not be an overall advantage at this time.
    ( And,can Photoshop Cs3 only use 4 Gigg memory, or 8 Gigg? )
Photoshop CS3 will use 3GB directly and take advantage of OS X to use the rest of your RAM as a scratch disk buffer (the linked article still applies to CS3 and 4).

  • Photoshop CS3 versus Photoshop CS4

    Hi
    I have Lightroom 2.3
    Photoshop CS3
    Mac OS X 10.5.6.
After editing Photo in Lightroom my transfer to CS3 came up with the following message:
"This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 5.3 for full compatibility.
Camera Raw version 4.6. is the latest version available for Photoshop CS3.  If raw file support for your camera was introduced after Camera aw 4.6., the Photoshop integration features in Lightroom require CS4 and the latest Camera Raw version 5 plug-in.
The version of the Camera Raw plug-in currently installed is 4_6."
Unfortunately I partially read this message. and
Immediately downloaded camera raw 5_3. - Thus was unable to install the newly downloaded camera raw 5_3.  However I installed the camera profiles ( not related to my Nikon D80).
    1.  Should I uninstall the camera profiles?  if so How to?
    2.  Do Photoshop CS3 users have to continue work /edit photos with less up-to date  perhaps lack of Camera Raw developments?
    thank you
    Sue

The highest version of Adobe Camera Raw that will work with CS3 is ACR 4.6, which is incompatible with the raw conversion engine used in Lightroom 2.3.  There is nothing you can do about that other than upgrading to CS4.
The functionality of ACR 5.3 is so far superior to ACR 4.6 that the upgrade to CS4 is a no-brainer.  Really.

If they really got installed, you can locate them and put them in the trash.
    HardDrive/ Library/ Application Support/ Adobe/ Camera Raw/ Camera Profiles/ …

Yes.  That's why I wrote that the upgrade to CS4 is a no-brainer.

  • Photoshop cs3 opens jpg in camera raw? help me

    Hi
    in the preferences file handling
-> i setup prefer camera raw for jpg unchecked
->i setup prefer camera raw for supported raw files
so photoshop opens only the raw files in camera and the other in normal mode
but there is a photo in jpg  that photoshop cs3 persist, insist to open in camera raw!!
    why?
    how can i clean it?
i mean open ths jpg in normal mode
    thanks

Also, you can let it Open in Camera RAW. Do any editing necessary there, and then Save, choosing JPEG. Does that resulting file now Open fine in PS?
Could be somethng in its header that is telling PS to Open in Camera RAW, regardless of its file extension.
    Good luck,

  • Annoying bug in Photoshop CS3 Standard 10.0.1

I am using Windows XP SP2 with all current hotfixes. My PC has a single CRT monitor attached, an Athlon 2400+ CPU inside, and 1 GB of RAM. The Nvidia graphic card has 64 MB. I have Photoshop CS3 Standard 10.0.1 with Camera Raw 4.3.1 and Bridge CS3 2.1.1 (and all the other CS3 updates, too).
Whenever I copy new filters (i. e. .8BF files) to ~\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Plug-Ins\Filters (or actually to a new subdirectory therein), snapshots as well as the Lab mode cease to work properly. When taking a snapshot, the snapshot's thumbnail in the History palette is pure black; so is the first snapshot automatically taken on opening an image. When switching into Lab mode, both the image as well as its Lab thumbnail in the Channels palette are pure black (strangely, the L channel, the a channel, and the b channel are not black but correct). When deleting the new filters from the Filters directory, both snapshots and Lab mode will work properly again. This has nothing to do with the kind of filters or with applying the filters. If they are just sitting there, things go haywire.
Another way to fix the issue (besides deleting the filters) is to 'repair' the Photoshop installation after installing the filters, i. e. to re-run the Photoshop setup procedure without prior de-installation. It takes about half an hour to complete, and afterwards Photoshop will accept the new filters without screwing up snapshots or Lab mode.
Resetting the preferences does not fix the issue.
Has someone experienced the same? By the way, the problem was there in Photoshop 10.0, too (but not in CS2).
    -- Olaf

There's just a flurry of complaints about CS3 crashing under Yosemite. The upgrade is known to damage CS5 installs. Adobe only certifies CS6, CC, and CC 2014 as being tested for Yosemite.
I would not advise it. You would more than likely have to reinstall CS3 and its' updates, as well as your printer drivers and no guarantee it will be the same.
If your work depends on CS3 functioning, hold off for now, or until you upgrade Photoshop.
You are taking chances you probably don't need to.  If it works, don't fix it.

  • Photoshop CS3 web gallery bugs(?); vanishing metadata, bad sort order

Running OS 1.5.4 on 24" Imac, I'm attempting to generate a "horizontal slideshow" from bridge-selected files in Photoshop CS3.
[Sounded like the problem in this post: http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b5a9fe/2 but on re-reading I've decided it's different so I'm giving it it's own thread, with more detail...]
    Here's my experience:
    1) Description and title show up for a second on the first slide, then revert to just the blank template on that and all subsequent slides (title: [blank] description: [blank]....
Hitting "refresh" produces the descriptive metadata for a tantalizing moment, then it' s back to the blank template for this and all subsequent slides. It does this both for Safari and Firefox.
You can view this behavior in a slideshow at http://oasisdesign.net/projects/earthtoilet/
If it asks for a password, use---
    user:earthling
    pass: draf1 )
    "preserve all metadata" is checked.
I've tried all combinations of checking/ unchecking "title, description, filename" for labeling...also, making slideshows with just one or two slides to reduce the chance that it's a weird character issue of the type some other folks have experienced...
    2) additionally, the web gallery is not respecting the manual sort order in Bridge, which is the source of the files. The help files say the slideshow should follow the manual sort order in Bridge.
    3) Finally, metadata entered in bridge metadata tab sometimes vanishes, sometimes metadata entered in file info wouldn't show in the metadata tab.
    Thanks for your help!!
    Art
BTW, here's the related issues I found:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b5a9fe/2
...After some investigation, I found that the descriptions were disappearing only for photos that had a Return / Line Break in the description. If you go back and make sure all of your descriptions are a single line, it works fine....
=Don't have line breaks, nor "and" nor &...
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bff9de1/0
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bd62ec3/0

OK...here's the hack I used to get around what I'm now totally convinced are program bugs and shortcomings relative to advertised functionality, for anyone else who has to deal with this, followed by my (suggested fixes to Adobe)...
    1) Sort everything the way you want in bridge.
    2) Make meta descriptions w/o weird characters (a warning here would be helpful)
    3) Use "batch rename," with "copy to another folder" to give the images totally plain vanilla, DOS-style file names (001.jpg, 002.jpg...). This solves most filename issues and the works around web gallery's failure to recognize bridge sort order in one go. Note that you can irrevocably screw up the names of all your original files if you're not very careful to COPY at this step.
([a] make the bridge sort work directly, as advertised, por favor. [b] add an error message or warning about file names such as 006-(2).jpg causing malfunction. A compassionate, low-effort short-term patch for Mac users of web gallery, especially since bridge generates that particular sort name itself invisibly and automatically if you move a file with the same name into a folder)
    4) Use "white on black" instead of bug-ridden "horizontal slideshow" (horizontal slideshow should be fixed or deleted from the next version...multiple slideshow options would be awesome, as they advance automatically at the max rate the user's bandwidth allows, a very attractive feature)
    5) Restrict all images to the same height so users can click *in the same spot* to advance the 200 images with less carpal tunnel (the advance arrow should *always* be in the same spot, for every web gallery, IMHO)
Web galleries are a fantastic tool for sharing information easily...I hope to see some evolution in those great automatic updates someday...

  • Extracting "File Properties" metadata from Photoshop CS3

After processing scanned images in Photoshop CS3, I am up loading them to a DAM solution that has the capability to extract embedded metadata using custom defined keys. I would like to know the syntax/structure of embedded metadata labels that display in the "File Properties" template of Bridge CS3 (e.g. File Size, Dimensions, Color Space) so that I can extract that metadata.
    Thank you!

I have this printer and use Leopard, but I don't have this problem I am useing the 6.2 driver. There are two drivers on their website, I am using only the driver that came with the machine. I would re-install the driver. Secondly and this caught me up a bit at first. You open the CS print manager, press print and then the Epson driver emerges, there i s no direct access from CS3 to the driver. Secondly in the Epson driver there are two or three set of drop down menus, the one that permits setting the paper profile is not exactly where you expect it, just have a look through all the menus(I am not sitting in fronto of my mac right now so I am of limited help). Good luck.

  • Can Photoshop shortcuts be configured to be used with a PlayStation controller?

  • Help configuring Mac Pro for Photoshop CS3

Hi all, this will be my 1st Mac and I'm hoping to get the proper configuration for using the Mac Pro with Photoshop CS3.
Since I'm working with large photos (20" X 24" and even larger) and layers my main concern is speed. The Apple store lists five items in their suggested configuration, any suggestions for what upgrades I need to make will be greatly appreciated!
Start building your Mac Pro with our suggested configuration:
    * Two 2.66GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon “Woodcrest” processors
    * 1GB memory (667MHz DDR2 fully-buffered DIMM ECC)
    * NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT graphics with 256MB memory
    * 250GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s 7200-rpm hard drive1
    * 16x double-layer SuperDrive
    thanks!!

Well, with a $US5K budget you should be able get a decent configuration. From the Apple Store I would order…
    Mac Pro 2.66GHz 1GB RAM / 250GB HD
    ATi Radeon X1900 XT
    Apple 23" Cinema Display
    Bluetooth & Airport Extreme
… which will cost $US3,726 leaving you plenty for your RAM and drives. I would add AppleCare although you can buy and activate this any time within your standard 1 year warranty period so by buy later you spread your costs.
Now, with RAM I would either buy 4 x 1GB (giving you 5GB and costing approx. $US400) from the manufacturer of your choice else 4 x 2GB (giving you 9GB and costing approx. $US850). The most cost effective is probably the 4 x 1GB as you'll most likely not want more than 8GB RAM in any case.
For your drives you have quite a bit of choice although you need to decide if you want to go RAID and what you're going to do with your backup and/or clone. Photoshop users require fast, small file, disk access which the Maxtor MaxLine Pro excels at and at $US99 each they're quite the bargain. Even though Seagate has chosen to discontinue this drive they're still the best boot/Photoshop drives in the 500GB size.
However, looking larger (750GB or more) such as the Hitachi Deskstar/UltraStar, Western Digital SE16/RE2 or Seagate Barracuda 7200.11/ES.2 You'll find better performance overall simply through their larger sizes. Not to mention you'll be buying current model drives. Be aware that you should buy drives specifically for RAID use if you wish to go that way. It's not a good idea to use desktop class drives in RAID sets hence the two model choices for each manufacturer.

  • How can I integrate metadata and keywords in Lightroom with those in Photoshop, Bridge, and Photoshop Elements? In other words, is there a way to retrieve common metadata templates from all modules? Thanks!

Keyword and Metadata Integration throughout Adobe Modules

    Thanks! That's helpful.
What I mean by "common metadata", is a unified, updated, most current metadata, which I could update in each program. That is without overwriting the metadata, but appending new keywords to the metadata I created in the previous program.
I use Bridge, then Lightroom and finally Photoshop. That's the regular workflow: Bridge for preliminary sorting and and adding some keywords; Lightroom for organizing and picking the best images; finally, Photoshop for processing. I got Photoshop Elements on trial. Doesn't work for my purposes.
I need to share and update the metadata / keywords when I go from one program into another. Can't retrieve metadata I set up in Bridge into Lightroom. Same happens with Photoshop, where I can't retrieve keywords I add in Lightroom. It's tedious to write up the keywords again.
    Thanks for your efforts!
