Can predictive text be turned off?

Just wanted to add my voice to those who want to disable predictive text. I hated it on my Nokia and turned it off (YES!!!). It makes my iPhone 3G seem LESS intuitive because it rarely, if ever, divines MY intentions. Whether it is a name, a term or phrase or from the smattering of foreign languages I incorporate in EVERYDAY life, the iPhone vomits up wrong choices, forcing me to correct, re-type, and sometimes re-re-re-type what I want. This is not a SMART feature.
Kinda reminds me of the usual MS explanation: it's not a bug, it's a feature!
PUH-LEASE, Apple... Give us the power in the next software upgrade!

  • Can predictive typing be turned off?

as subject says.. did I miss a page on the manual?
    thanks

Frankly, I'm not sure I understand why you'd want to turn it off, and I ALWAYS turn off the autocorrect features of any word processor I use. But I found the iphone does such a great job of learning that sometimes I'm in the middle of typing and I see I've made an error but I'm confident that if I just continue it'll get corrected -- and most of the time it does. How long have you had your iphone? I ask only because at first it really had to be taught, but with patience, it really has learned quite well and it usually guesses what I'm trying to type.
Just to be sure, are you tapping the incorrect guesses, so that the phone learns that they're no good? If you just let it correct and then delete then you're not teaching it at all. I've found that only one or two taps on the same wrong suggestion is enough to have it not be suggested any more, instead it suggests what I ended up actually typing. That's what I mean by learning. Forgive me if you're already doing this but are not getting good results.

  • Why does quicktype (predictive text) keep turning off?

It's easy to reset it so that it's back on, but it seems like some sort of fault that it stops working (even though when you go into settings, it shows that it's on).

try to restore firmware or upgrade it

I have been having issues with not receiving texts and voicemails daily, for a few months now. If I turn the phone completely off, when I turn it back on the messages will flood in from hours before. I can't be continually turning off my phone in case someone left me a message. How do I resolve this issue?

Wifi:  my Cell phone will remember 10 wifi connections.  So delete any you don't use often and your home wifi and try to enter home wifi again.
if it still won't connect to home wifi, call your internet provider for help.  You may need a newer router or different settings Or upgraded service.   Your phone seeks the best connection and will refuse lesser connections.
last resort.  Backup the phone.  Do a full reset, then restore as new with the backup.
if still not fixed, go back to apple and insist on repair or replacement.
HOWEVER.   voicemail is not a wifi issue, it's a carrier function, which is why the SIM card is a suspect.

    See this post.
Assuming AVG is involved there is a new patch which may resolve the issue. Update AVg before attempting to recover the library.

  • How can you minimize or (turn) off the "side panel" in Web Intelligence in the view mode.

How can you minimize or (turn) off the "side panel" in Web Intelligence in the view mode.
It is possible to turn on/off options within the Side Panel by Customization of Groups.
But it seems You cannot influence the way Web Intelligence present (minimized or Off) the Side Panel in the IE??
Is there a solution for this??
If not, it would be a nice property of a Web Intelligence document in a future release.

    Hi Nico,
we patched up to BI 4.1 SP 3 Patch 2
    and look look

  • Touchpad not responding. Cannot shutdown since I can't swipe to turn off. It also won't charge. Help!

iPhone 5s Stopped responding right after I finished a call. Touchpad doesn't respond and I cant shut down since I can't swipe to turn off. I updated to latest OS 8.1.3 a few days ago but it worked fine until now. I tried charging but it isn't responding to that either.

Thanks. I forgot to hold them longer. Is this because of the software update?
it still doesn't show that it is charging though. I Hope that fixes itself. Now my IPad is acting up. I think I'll reset that too!

  • Why do the plug-in add ons have to notify you of up dates so often - can these notifications be turned off ?

When opening Firefox - (since edition 8) many of the plug-in products open also to notify of some type of change -- if this was once a month or so -- then that is ok but it happens to all my Firefox Browsers (5 desk tops here at home) most every day or every other day -- way too much waste of time -- and now I don't care for this notification -- CAN THIS SERVICE BE TURNED OFF IN FIREFOX SOME HOW ?
    THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME

Please keep in mind that Oracle (Java) and Adobe (Flash) have had a large number of updates the later part of this year containing security and stability fixes for their plugins. If you are unaware that an update has been released you may miss those fixes.

In 10.6 or earlier go to: Apple / System Preferences / Universal Access and turn off Voice Over.
In 10.8 go to: Apple / System Preferences / Accessibility / VoiceOver and uncheck the box for Enable VoiceOver.

  • Calendar subscriptions synced via MM can no longer be turned off

Calendar subscriptions synced via MM can no longer be turned off on the iPhone, as far as I can tell. Unless anyone can figure out a workaround. Anyone? Got any ideas?
    Otherwise...
All those calendars of your friends, events, etc. that you subscribe to on your Mac...if you use MobileMe for syncing, they are now going to be cluttering up your iPhone calendar, and apparently there is no way to get rid of them (unless you set them all up manually via CalDAV. This is a change that apparently occurred with 3.1.
    See http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1213
Please visit this site to protest: http://www.apple.com/feedback/mobileme.html
    Thanks.

If you draw a picture of how calendars get from your Mac to your phone, it might be easier to sort out. MobileMe calendars sync with your iPhone over the air (either AT&T or WiFi). Calendars "From My Mac" sync with your Mac via the USB cable. Your Mac knows if it's syncing any particular calendar via both paths, but by the time they get to the iPhone, they look like two entirely different calendars, even though their names and contents might be identical. When you add an event on your iPhone, that event will show up on your Mac depending on which path it has to travel. If its calendar is "From My Mac", it will have to wait until the next time you sync with iTunes and the USB cable.
I suggest you select either MobileMe or iTunes, but not both, for syncing if you want to avoid duplicate calendars on your phone.

  • I have found that my iphone 5 becomes very hot. What can I check or turn off to cool it down?

I have found that my iphone 5 becomes very hot. What can I check or turn off to cool it down?

    Put the device down occasionally.
    Cut back on game playing.
Kill any apps running in the background.
Basic troubleshooting from the Users Guide is reset, restart, restore. Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • IMac frozen in mail can't force quit turned off at power and done safe reboot still frozen?

iMac frozen in mail can't force quit turned off at power and tried safe reboot, but still frozen?

To do the NVRAM reset (be quick with Step 4, "immediately" is literal!):
    1. Power down the machine.
    2. Locate the following keys on your keyboard in preparation for Step 4:
    ‘command’ – ‘option’ – ‘P’ – ‘R’
    3. Press the ‘power on’ button.
    4. Immediately – and before the grey screen appears – hold down ‘command-option-P-R’ all together.
    5. Keep them held down until you’ve heard the start-up chime twice. After you release them you should hear it again, and hopefully your Mac will boot up as it should.
