Can Premiere Pro 5.5 work with Several AE projects on a Network?

Hi All:
First time posting. Long time Final Cut user looking to migrate.
We have 3 licenses of Production Premium, on a shared network of Fiber.
We would love to have one Premiere project open and send shots to different after effects projects so we can have 3 people working on comps at the same time and then send those back to Premier. Is this even possible?
This would be an incredible workflow for us.
So far we have had no luck, Premiere sees all our different After Effects projects as the same one.

The best you can do is keep your "master" copy on the network server... use check out/in software to manage who does what... copy the project to the local hard drive and do the work... then copy back and check in on the server

Optimizing Premiere Pro CC to work with a 4k Monitor

Can someone tell me how to work on Premiere Pro CC 2014 (currently 8.2) on a 4k monitor with scaling set at 100%. If I don't scale anything then all the text and icons and everything is WAY too small.
Photoshop seems to have a handy 200% scaling feature which works and looks great. But what about Premiere? I thought the latest version (8.2) was "optimized" to work with 4k monitors?? Doesn't seem like it. I see I can increase the font size in the project panel but that's about it. It needs to be scaled to 150-200% ...BUT... if you do that, then the vertical scrolling on the timeline gets all screwed up and does not work.
4k rez screen looks great and all but without scaling things are SOOOOO tiny! Help!

You do what you do on a Macbook Retina display. Set it at a lower resolution, the icons and programs will then get bigger, like a 2560x1440. That's what I'd do on a 27 inch. For other sizes I'm not sure.
You may then ask, "But then I'm not seeing 4k. resolution." You switch back and forth, if you want to see your video play in 4k, change it and then go full screen and watch it. But while you're working on it, you don't need the display to be set at 4k resolution.
Mac nor Windows have really made their operating systems look right on 4k yet because not many have them. In the future, basically everything by default would be higher resolution, therefore making it bigger, such as an icon on your desktop.
The Macbook Pro retina display for example, it is NOT set to full resolution, not does it even give you the option to without downloading a tool to hack it. But what retina does, is doubles the pixies. So it'll show 1400x900 and it looks like any other 1400x900 display, as far as size of icons, programs, etc, but the pixels are doubled so its sharper.
Now Apple has already made the option available, where if you have a 4k monitor, you can set it to something like 2560x1440 so everything is big and normal sized, but the pixels are doubled, making it a retina type of display.
I don't know if PC has that option or if there is a program for that option, that would make it sharper and you could still see everything. But even if PC doesn't have the doubling option, just scale it down because using it at native 4k might literally hurt your eyes. I can't use my macbook at anything past 1400x900 or it'll be too small. Yet the resolution is over 2k.

I need a definitive answer for using Premiere Pro CS4 to work with .m2ts and .mts files

I have a Canon Vixia HF20 and a Sony HDR-XR350V. The Canon gives me .MTS files and the Sony produces .M2TS files. What do I need to do to be able to work with these files in Premiere Pro? I've searched and gotten that I'll need to purchase a codec. But are both file types going to be good with one codec?
Also, what are the steps to getting started? Purchase the codec, load the codec...Will there be any other steps to working with the files in Premiere?
I'm sorry for the basic questions, I'm a photographer! I've never worked with video before, and this is HARD!

I'm nowhere near the authority on this stuff that many of the others are here, but I have Premiere Pro CS4 and I work directly with AVCHD .mts files from my Panasonic camera. I simply browse to the directory where the .mts files are located and drag them into the project. I didn't need to purchase any additional codec, this is natively supported in Premiere CS4.
I can't speak to m2ts files as I don't have any gear that generates them.
One thing you do need to know, however, and this is important. Whether you're running a Mac or a PC, if you're going to work with high def footage such as AVCHD, you're going to need a fairly high performance computer with sufficient RAM, good performing hard drives and a fast CPU.
I tried this on a PC that was fine for my recording studio (audio), fine for professional software development, but choked and stuttered working with HD material. That's not a problem with the Adobe software, it's just the nature of the beast. HD is extremely demanding stuff, so you need top flight gear to work with it. I bought a higher performance PC and now it runs just fine.

In fact, I have read this PDF before I post this subject. But I think in this document, the introduction about Premier Pro and ENPS integration was too simply. I can't to know what's it and how does it work. Actually, I don't have Premiere Pro CS5.5 and ENPS right now, but I would like to have a deeper understanding about it and consider to get this system, because I have heard that's very awesome!
Whatever I would like to know the detail about this integration. Could you give more information?

Can Prelude preview and independently work with several clips at one time?

I would like to be able to view several clips at one time, being able to scrub to various locations and then move to another clip and do likewise while being able to see all on the screen at one time. I can almost do this in Premiere Pro buy selecting clips in a bin in icon view and increasing their size - but, the big drawback is when I leave one clip to scrub another, the clip I left moves to another frame on its own so is not dependable or useful for the visualizations I want to do.

If you want to change the poster frame of clips in Icon view in Premiere you can use Shift / Command+P, however, Prelude does not support that, but we could consider to make it in Prelude in the future. Thanks again!

Can iDVD 09 open and work with an iDVD project i made in 06?

I am bringing over my iMovie 06 and iDVD projects over to new mac with iDVD 09. I took out iMovie 09 and resinstalled 06HD. The iMovie 06 files now open ok, but not the iDVD 06 projects, when I try to open them with iDVD 09. Should I remove iDVD 09 and install iDVD 06.
I heard that iMovie 06 files will import ok into iDVD 09, but now assuming that the iDVD 06 projects themselves will not open in the newer program.

i uninstalled iDVD 09 and installed iDVD 06 to see if I could open the G4's old iDVD projects.
Error message says iDVD 06 will not work with this OS. What gives? Apparently iMovie HD06 will work, as far as I can tell, with just a few tests.
What CAN I DO HERE to bring over my iDVD 06 projects so I can work them on Snow Leopard?
Luckily the dvd projects are not many and not complex. But there are so many issues with all of this. I might as well have a computer that knows only Chinese characters. I got the new mac so my video work wouldnt clog up on the old G4. But this is beyond clog. This is cement, stuck at the starting gate.

How can I link 1 movie file with several logic projects?

I've been working on the music for a film with a colleague of mine and are sharing logic files via dropbox. 72 cues had to be altered for logisitical reason to work in someone else's studio for the final mix. Since I had a copy of the movie on my machine and my colleague had a copy on his we thought that if we put our movie into the root directory of our logic project's folder then the movie would automatically load up with the projects after we shared them via dropbox. We checked to make sure that both movies had the same filename. Unfortunately this did not work and we had to then reassociate 72 cues individually with each logic project. With such limited time to prepare the cues for the final mix this really took too much time.
Is there any way in logic (9.1.8) to associate 1 movie file with a number of logic projects quickly, without having to open up the project and select open movie?

Seems to me that if you both had the movie file in the same location on both of your drives (eg on Macintosh HD at root level, in no other folder) then all the project files would search for this common path and find the file.
The problem arises when there is even a small difference between path names.
Unfortunately, this won't help you at this point as all the project files already are associated with unique file paths for the movie. By now, you've probably already done it one by one - but maybe for next time....?
There's no bulk or quick way to do this.

Premiere Pro SLOW and laggy (with very simple project!)

So, I'm literally cutting together an animatic of jpeg images. And using very simple animation to animate them.
My timeline essentially is jpeg images, music, sound effects, etc. Using Macbook Pro Retina 13 Inch. 2013.
I've gotten very laggy performance across the board. And I can't even view jpegs with limited animation in real time. Have to render everything.
Attaching my system info below via screenshots. When I tried exporting I sent it to encoder and took a screenshot of the CPU usage.
At some point when I tried to render I would get errors (see attachments).
Any idea what this is about?

What size are your jpegs? Very large still images don't perform well in video applications. Try not to make them a lot bigger than the resolution of your timeline.
Also, make sure they are RGB, not CMYK.
If these things don't make sense to you, let us know and me or someone else will help you optimize your stills for video.

As shooternz says, yes ... although if you are new, you may not realize that when you start a project, you have to manually "create a sequence" first, THEN you can add clips to the sequence. Until you have a sequence on the timeline, simply dragging & dropping from either the source monitor or project/browser panel to the timeline area will not work. Nor trying add a clip to the timeline either by the properties panel (after right-clicking on a clip) or the top menus.
Create a new sequence on the timeline, then ... you can drag & drop from either the source or project/browser panels, right-clicking on footage and using the property menus, all now works.
Steps to create a new sequence ... "ctrl(cmd) - N" with keyboard to create a new sequence, or in project/media browser panel ... right-click and choose "new -> sequence", or in that panel click on the piece of paper with a folded-corner icon (lower right corner) then choose "new->sequence" or of course, "File->new->sequence" from the main menu bar.

200% or more is not strange. Remember that your mac has 4 cores (you say it's 3 months old, so I assume it is a new model), so 200% amounts to using 2 of these 4 cores to the max.
Regarding the question of creating a new admin user: while it sits in the same system, it may help if the problem is caused by some user-specific preferences or settings. Not likely in your case, since you seem to have reinstalled from scratch, but still it is worth a try. It takes 5 minutes and may help pinpoint the problem.

Hi Tom, I don't know if you can help me.
I'm using Final Cut version 10.1.4 with Yosemite 10.10.2 and whenever I open FCP it opens for about 5 seconds (not allowing me to click anywhere) before closing with the message "Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly. click reopen to open the application again. This report will be sent to apple automatically." I have tried opening it multiple times and the same thing has been happening over and over again and i've tried everything I could find on the internet and nothing is working.

Premiere Pro has stopped working. Windows can't open it

When I lauch Premiere Pro, I get this error message: "Premiere Pro has stopped working" Then I get this one: " A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
I even uninstalled and re-install the program. but I get the same error. I'm sure this must be an easy-fix for somebody out there. Please help.
