Can Premiere Pro CC handle AVI files with multiple audio streams?

I have an AVI file with two audio streams and I am wondering if there's any way to access the second stream in PP? So far I can only get the first stream to play. I know I can extract the second stream in for instance VirtualDub, but it would be nice to not have to do that in the interest of an effective workflow.

Hello again Jim! Thank you for your reply, you seem to be working hard here on the forums! The info I have found from 2011 suggested that it wasn't possible then, but I was hoping maybe they added this feature.

  • Troubles with Multiple Audio Streams.[ca0106]

    Hey everyone.
I have a few issues on my hands that i just cannot seem to get a strait foward answer.
First off, i have a Sound Blaster Live! 24bit pci sound card. Sound plays perfect as well as surround sound.
My issue is that i cannot get mulitiple things to play sound at once. All of the correct modules are loaded just fine and working well. I do believe that when i was using gentoo and could play multiple audio streams, i had alsa built into my kernel.... in arch i dont believe i do.
Im trying not to build my kernel all over again in arch because i think its something in arch i may be  doing wrong...
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply.
I know for a fact im using ALSA. Since i made that post, ive been doing as much research as possible. I found on ubuntuforums, some dude posted some configs for his ca0106 sound card. I tried them and they take me to the same fork.
Surround Sound .... or .... Multiple audio streams.
So the big questions is, is it possible to have both? And would compiling a new kernel with ALSA and support for my card make a difference?
    Thanks!

  • Adobe Premiere Pro Cutting out avi files

I have adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 When I add in my avi files it doesn't show the entire file. I import a 7min 36 second file that is 3.74 GBs and a date rate of 69219kbps. But once it imports it is 27 seconds.I know it would be possibal for me to convert the file but it is an HD file and there are going to be bigger files. I can't change what the video records in and it is WAY to much of a hassle to convert them (I make hundreds of videos and can't take the time to convert all of them multible times) When I open it in VLC, Adobe Bridge, Windows Media player, ect... It plays the file just fine but Adobe Premiere Pro won't read the file completely. Please Help

  • In Premiere Pro CS5.5 AVI file imports audio only - no video.

I've got a file (one of 3) I've been given to create a smaller file (320x480) from.
The file is an avi file and plays (video and audio) just fine in the native Windows media player. (I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit) There are no issues of memory or HDisc space.
    Video:
The file is 2:21:29 in length.
    720x480
    Data rate 1489kbps
    Total bitrate 1617kbps
    29 frames/second
    Audio:
    Bit rate 128kbps
    Channels 2 (stereo)
    Audio sample rate 48 kHz
    The file is about 1.6Gb
This is one of 3 I recieved. The other two were of comparable specs and similar length (not exactly but one was longer, the other shorter.)
The problem is that this particular file (the other two import perfectly), when imported, only comes in as an audio file. No video imports. The other files import as audio and video. No error message either.
I've imported all kinds of video files in the past with different frame sizes, rates, and aspect ratios, and codecs, yet I've never had one that only imports the audio without the video.
    Suggestions?!

  • Premiere Pro 1.5 AVI Files Not Recognized in CS4

The AVI files were captured using
Adobe Premiere 1.5 from a Canon XH-A1 camcorder. The same AVI files work
fine in Pinnacle Studio 14 as well as Adobe Premiere 1.5.

You found the key for me. The codec turned out to be Cineform Visually Perfect (right clicko on the file, "properties").
I found Cineform. I found a CVP "viewer" file at http://estore.cineform.com/neoplayer.aspx and installed it. Now PR CS5 reads those files just fine. Problem solved.
Thank you very much for your clear perception of the issue.

  • .ts-files with multiple audio tracks / Premiere Elements 12

    Hello forum,
once more I need a little help please.
I've created successfully a few DVD's, and by now I'm a master in creating my own menue templates , but now I have again some problems.
I imported a .ts file which I recorded on my Sat Receiver. This file contains a video track and 2 audio tracks:
    1. German 6-channel AC3,
    2. English 2-channel AC3 (I can add a screenshot of the file info's if needed).
Now my problem is that I only hear some kind of background sound, music and so on, no voices. So not really one of the tracks I mentioned above.
The file works good when I play them with VLC player, and I'm able to chose the 2 languages there.
What I don't really understand is, I created several DVD's with exactly the same file type, I mean the file info's are identical except the lenght differs for a few minutes.
Is there a way to chose the audio track in Premiere Elements like I can chose it in VLC player? Or is there another way to bring the voices in there?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jessie
My system is a Macbook Pro, 16 GB RAM, 2.5 Ghz, Premiere Elements 12

    Hi ATR,
yes, that's what I meant. It worked without problems with a lot of files in different projects. I made a few screenshots, maybe they help to get it fixed.
This is the file that worked fine:
And this is the one that doesn't work:
By now I haven't changed anything in the settings as I don't know what I could change.
The files that worked came out with the german soundtrack, so I assume 5.1 channel.
I'm really out of ideas now :/

  • AVI file with 'MS' Audio will not play audio in Quicktime, tried everything

Hey thanks for reading...I have followed all links to xvid compnents nand have installed various ones etc and have tried different combinations and still no luck.
I can see video fine, but I cannot get audio going, and I think this is why....
    'ms' audio....
I REALLY want to get this playing in QT. I know I can watch it in some OTHER player and get video and audio just fine...
but please if anyone knows how to get this going....
    thanks in advance!

I found this component after doing a web search...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/14633
seems to fix the problem....but I noticed the volume is kind of low when playing this avi file in QT, but when I play it in the Mplayer it sounds a lot louder. And that is with the volume sliders on both QT, and Mplayer maxed out, and using the Macs volume to judge the difference.
    Anyway....
The reason I want to play it in QT is that I can use my remote to pause and rewind and fast forward...

  • Exporting QT file with multiple audio tracks

I'm trying to create a digibeta tape of my movie. The company who does it wanted a QuickTime file with the movie where there were 2 audio tracks (4 in sterio). One with the music and sound effects and another with narration and interviews. I'm not sure if this is possible or where to set the option for this. Can anyone help?

Command+0 (zero) to bring up Sequence Settings, go to the Audio Outputs tab and change the Outputs to 4 whilst keeping the Grouping as Stereo.
Back on the timeline, ensure your audio media is on the correct audio track for export, eg, all music on 7&8 , 9&10, VO on 5 and/or 6 , etc etc. Basically, keeping an organised timeline without spreading audio over random tracks really helps.
Ensure the audio tracks are assigned to the correct channels. To do this, on the timeline you see the 'destination buttons' A1 A2 A3 A4 A5 A6 etc etc... next to each button is a padlock, then you have the Toggle Auto Select icon. Control-click on this icon and you'll see the Audio Outputs setting, which shows which stereo pair that particular track is assigned to. In this case, you'll want to assign Music and Effects to 3&4, whilst keeping narration and interviews on 1&2.
    Export Quicktime Movie.

  • No audio on files with multiple audio tracks

All my files that have multiple audio tracks (e.g. stereo and surround) no longer have audio when I initially start up my Apple TV 2. When I manually change the audio track in the menu (from stereo to surround or vice versa), I get the sound back but I would have to do this with every single file and do this each time I start up my Apple TV. Anyone else notice this problem. This only started happening after the most recent update.

  • MPEG with multiple audio streams

I have a dvd that has one video on it with 4 different audio options. The goal is to recreate the dvd with different menu's etc. I ripped the dvd with MPEG Streamclip. I played the ripped mpeg and it definitely contains all four audio streams. I then imported the mpeg into encore cs4 and it only shows the default audio selection, the other three are gone. I tried importing it into premier and the same thing happened. This seems like it should be pretty easy but maybe not.
    Thanks for the help,
    Kevin

    Kevin,
    First, welcome to the forum.
Next, I am shooting blind here, as I have never gone this direction. If none of this works, sorry. I only go the other way, creating what you hope to recreate.
Now, what happens if you rip the Audio in a Multi-track Audio editing program, like Adobe Audition? I would hope that it will rip each Audio stream as a stereo WAV (or as discrete WAV's if you have AC3 DD 5.1 SS). If this does work (remember, no guarantees), you should be able to separate these out, and then Import them into Encore.
I am sure that many other programs can do what Audition does, but that is my go-to Audio editor and know that it works well with both ripping from all sorts of muxed AV files, and will also handle Multi-track material.
Good luck, and please let us know if this works. Also, Neil Wilkes, a valued contributor to this forum, is the "Audio guru," and might well have better suggestions.

  • Adobe premier cc stopped importing avi files with PCM audio codec, unsupported audio format

We were working just fine using Adobe premier pro cc, we captured videos in avi format video codec MJPEC audio codec PCM. Suddenly, I think after updating using cc, premier stopped importing any file giving the following Error message: The file contains an unsupported Audio format. We have captured more than 4000 hr from our library, and we are still capturing, our work is completlty freezed, we can not export to any format since we can not import in the first place. Our rivals in the market are taking our client and they are using old premier cs6 cracked version, this is ridiculous!! I installed adobe cs6 trial and it is working fine, this is very frustrating.

  • Megaview 561 - how to watch avi files with DC3 audio?

I have a Megaview 561. I love it. I wish MSI supported it with updates!!!!!
Anyway, my problem is watching (or rather, listening) to movies I am trying to watch which use DC3 audio instead of MP3 audio. I know I can re-encode the whole movie, but that takes forever.
Anyone know what the solution is? Any way to get something like AC3Filter to work on a MegaView? Any suggestions appreciated!
    Thanks

most firmware requests that people make, such as the one at the start of this topic, are simply impractical due to copyright and licensing issues
its not a case of MSI not being able to issue firmware updates as and when; if the current firmware code works, then why fix it? i'd feel much more confident buying a product that had no firmware upgrades than one that had loads to fix silly little issues.
there are so many diffferent video and audio codecs out there that to provide support for them all would be near impossible, if not illegal without the relevant license
Hi and thanks for the relevant response. As I stated, I'm happy with the MSI Megaview. And yes, the firmware code works. But clearly there is room for improvement as a movie with a DC3 soundtrack will not have audio. I guess it's in the eye of the beholder if the lack of audio is a silly little issue or a major annoyance. It's not the end of the world...after all, it's just a movie . I guess I was hoping that there may be some way that I could modify something so that these movies will have sound (without having to reencode the entire movie); that perhaps there is a workaround that would not involve a firmware or software update / upgrade from MSI. For example, with Windows, you simply download and install the codecs or something like AC3 Filter or AC3 Decoder. Do you know of any such workaround?
I judge from your response that installing or updating codecs is not possible to do on the Megaview 561?
Thanks again for the help. Cheers

  • How do I export from FCP to a QuickTime file with multiple audio channels?

I'm delivering a project where the first step is to generate an HD Cam SR master, which I will be doing at a post-production lab. They will then do a QC check for me. To generate this HD Cam SR master, they need to me to bring in my 98-minute long movie on a firewire hard drive, in five equal parts -- QuickTime files. From these five QT files, the lab will then be creating an HD Cam SR master that will have...
dialogue on tracks 1 and 2
effects on tracks 3 and 4
music on tracks 5 and 6
    MY QUESTION
    a) I don't see any way to separate these audio tracks accordingly in the FCP menu for QuickTime export. Does anyone have any experience doing this?
    b) And does anyone know the most efficient way to combine timeline audio tracks for this purpose? I have my dialogue sitting on the first FOUR audio tracks, actually. To deliver this film, I'll need to crush these four audio tracks to two, as listed above. I could generate an AIFF file, I suppose, import it back onto the timeline, sync it up, and then re-export along with the visuals to make the final QT file, but this seems like a generation loss.
    thanks,
    Shanked
PS the movie is made up of footage from a Sony PMW EX1. I used the codec "XDCAM 1080 24p 35mbs VBR" for editing in FCP. I'll either export to QT using this same codec or switch to "Apple ProRes" if my machine can somehow maintain the sync.

The following will answer both your questions a) and b).
Click on your master timeline and press cmd+0 (zero) to bring up Sequence Settings, then click on the Audio Outputs tab on the right. Click on the Outputs option and change it to 6. You can leave them as Stereo pairs.
Now, back on your timeline, you need to make sure all your audio is organised so each track. A1, A2, A3, A4 etc has all the relevant media on it.
Then, on the left of the timeline you see the Destination toggle buttons, then you see the Padlocks to lock tracks, then you have the Toggle Auto Select squares. If you right-click on the Toggle Auto Select squares you bring up a little sub-menu, at the top of this list you'll see Audio Outputs, which will show the stereo channels for that particular track. As you've changed the number of Audio Outputs in the Sequence Settings, the list will show: 1&2, 3&4, 5&6. You just tick whichever channels you want.
In your case, you have dialogue on the first 4 tracks, no problem, just go down through tracks 1,2,3 and 4 as described above and assign these to Audio Outputs 1&2.
Then just go down through your music and effects audio tracks and assign them accordingly.
Now, when you export your timeline as a self-contained media file, it will have different audio channels.
I hope that makes sense. When you change the number of audio outputs as described in the first step, I believe the rest of it is fairly self explanatory, once you know where the settings are.

  • How do I import AVI video with stereo audio (and keep it that way)?

Today I just discovered that all the AVI video with stereo audio I've ever imported into a Premiere Pro CS6 project has been mysteriously converted to mono. And I can't find any import setting anywhere that enable me to change this.
    Here's the deal...
I've have an AVI file with stereo audio (the file is actually a stereo sound test that I downloaded to prove that I wasn't imagining things). On my hard drive, I right-click and view the properties:
    Video
    Length: 00:00:36
    Frame width: 320
    Frame height: 240
    Frame rate: 25 frames/second
    Audio
    Bit rate: 128kbps
    Channels: 2 (stereo)
    Audio sample rate: 44 kHz
I click on it to play and listen with headphones--everything is playing in the correct part of the stereo spectrum. Then, I import it to Premiere, click the file name in the left content menu, and check the properties, suddenly they read:
    Type: AVI Movie
    File Size: 1.1 MB
    Image Size: 320 x 240
    Frame Rate: 25.00
Source Audio Format: 11025 Hz - 16 bit - Mono
Project Audio Format: 11025 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Mono
    Total Duration: 00:00:36:15
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
Sure enough, I drag it into the sequence, listen to it, and it's indeed playing mono. Outside of Premiere, the original source file still reads and plays correctly with stereo sound.
When I import stereo WAVs and MP3s, it keeps the original stereo channels without me having to do anything special. I even just imported the same exact file as a MOV with stereo audio, and it showed up in Premiere as:
Source Audio Format: 44100 Hz - 16 bit - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 44100 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
What is going on here with AVIs? Am I doing something wrong? Are there settings I'm missing somewhere?
(And before anyone suggests I only use MOV in the future... that's not exactly the answer I'm looking for.)

    Thank you for that info.
For video, the codec is MPEG-4 Video (XVID) and for audio it says MPEG Audio Layer 1/2/3 (mpga).
There are two issues with that file:
The first is the Xvid CODEC (not meant for editing), and then the MPEG Audio/MPGA. I would convert that file, to something that is more editable.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
