Can Preview recognize hyperlinks (embedded URLs) in PDF docs?

I've been trying to research this online but I get conflicting answers. Can Preview recognize hyperlinks (embedded URLs) in PDF documents? If it can, then how are those created?
I am using Adobe Acrobat Professional v7 (on Windows) and Preview doesn't appear to see the links I've created. Acrobat Reader on both Mac and Windows works fine.

I don't have any documents that I can test straight off, but I know Preview is limited when it comes to some of the advanced features of PDFs and you have to use Acrobat Reader for those. This might be another of those.

  • Can Preview be set to automatically open  PDF docs?

I am often converting/printing word docs into PDF docs in iMac Lion. I would like to set so converted PDF docs would open automatically in Preview.
Is it possible to set so? If then how?

Thanks but I already have Preview as default. It doesn't open freshly converted pdf-s automatically. I have to go to Finder and open them from there. I would like to skip that step and make Preview open freshly converted PDF doc automatically as soon as conversion is completed and document is created in Finder.

  • Get Plugin Finding Service Error for weeks & weeks now - can't update plug-ins, need download .pdf doc, but says adobe unstable, plug-in needs update. now what

Want to download .pdf doc, but pop-up says it's unstable, need update plug-in. Tried to update, got error message, with "try later". Same for weeks now. Tried check for updates, Firefox is up to date, clicked update plug-ins... it tries, then again... same error message: "Plugin Finding Service Error. Please try again later".
Been so long now -- when becomes a mighty big question. Looked in forum, no joy.
Please, can someone tell me -- what's the go. I'm absolutely no good with computers, but this needs to get fixed. Should I stop using Firefox or what?
    Thanks for your help.
    Happy 2013 to all.
PS. (added a couple days later)
I'm told I should have added my next question in reply to TylerDowner here, instead of as I did. Sorry if that's so (really?) but I didn't even realize I could edit this.
So... TylerDowner, thanks very much for your reply, and please would you -- or anyone else who might be able to help -- see my first reply to you below. (seems a waste to slot in here again)
    Feelin even dumber, (ha-ha)

Tylerdowner -- >> thank you << for your reply, and my sincere apologies for this delayed response (probs, hospital, blah-blah, you don't want to know).
Have tried to download via that link but not sure if successful. Very slow dial-up connection is the pits. Waited hours 'n hours, fell asleep in chair even, finally had to give in and go to bed, left it going. Server does time out every 8-12 hours, so not sure how long it went. The download appeared complete -- ie, did not show any note of failure. Not sure if it would -- some things in the past haven't.
Anyway, had success downloading one much older .pdf file, but the link for one I wanted had expired, and I don't know anything else to try. Tried a couple of other links I have, not sure of age of file -- on clicking link, the browser opened, but nothing more happened.
Wondering -- is the download available in separate pieces instead of one big one? Perhaps worth trying again that way?
Please, if you would be forgiving, and persist with me a little further/longer -- would you make your recommendation/s for next step/s please?
Hope you're in a safe, comfortable place. So many places in the world suffering with extremes of all kinds.

  • Can Azure Search support indexing of documents (pdf, doc etc)

    Hi,
I want to implement the azure search service indexing of documents (pdf, docs etc). is it possible ? if yes, then how ?
    Thanks

    Hi Shib,
I wanted to respond with a few ideas based on your question.  As of today, we do not have a document cracker for Azure Search to allow you to index the content from files such as the ones you suggested.  This is a pretty highly requested feature
(http://feedback.azure.com/forums/263029-azure-search/suggestions/6328662-blob-indexing-w-file-crackers), but we have not too date been able
    to prioritize this.
In the meantime, somethings you might consider looking at are iFilter or Apache Tika.  These are both great options that would allow you to programmatically extract the text from these files.  Based on the extracted text you could then post the
content to Azure Search.  I personally think this example on CodeProject is a pretty good starting point if you were to consider using iFilter:
    http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/13391/Using-IFilter-in-C
    I hope that helps.

  • How can I open the right URL in PDF?It's like a bug in adobe reader.

In my case, the PDF in our company always have a DOI on it, which is a URL can lead the reader to the article’s website page. But we found out that the URL in the PDF wouldn't show the link completely, If the URL is http://dx.doi.org/10.6310/jog.2009.4(3).3 in PDF, and I click the link, it will link to http://dx.doi.org/10.6310/jog.2009.4 . It is a big problem that would take the reader to the meaningless page. And it seems a bug, because the url is Ok if I use PDF-Viewer to open it. Can you help us to deal with this problem? Thank you.

Parsing parentheses in a URL is a problem for Reader and Office as well. It's not a good idea to use parentheses in URLs for that reason. Some older browsers will even have trouble with them.
The URL I get from that link is: http://www.airitilibrary.com/Publication/alDetailedMesh?DocID=P20140124001-200912-20140128 0011-201401280011-93-102
    Why not just use that?

  • Using free reader, how to activate a hyperlink embedded in a pdf documnet?

Using Windows 7. Control/click does not work.   embedded link not a webaddress that can be copied, but is a descriptive phrase.  Thanks.

you cannot tell if something is a link in the Reader
Actually, when you hover the pointer over a link, it should display a hand with a 'W' in it, and a balloon with the target address.  (But not all links do that, depending on how the link was inserted into the PDF.)

  • Suddenly I can't open hyperlinks embedded in emails on my iphone 5 ios7

    Hi there,
all of a sudden I now receive emails and am unable to open the hyperlinks contained in the emails. You touch the link and then it colours as if activated, the main loading logo comes up briefly and then stops. I've tried deleting and restoring my yahoo account but this has not resolved. Can anyone help?

Me thinks you have tried to connect to a shortcut folder and not a genuine folder.
Note Mac OS X in Mac OS X 10.4 has 3 popular folder shortcut locations:
The leftmost column of the Finder window.
The horizontal toolbar on the top of the Finder window
The translucent bar which can be anchored on the side or bottom of the screen known as the Dock. These are not true folder locations, but only locations for shortcuts. When you click on a folder for a volume that is not mounted, or is a folder which was deleted it will behave in this fashion. Often if you click on it the right fashion, it will change to a question mark.
In addition if it is an alias to an existing folder that has no contents, it will behave this way from the three shortcut locations.
If you right click instead of the left click a folder, it may think you want to do something to the folder which you can't do. Make sure your mouse button functions properly as a Primary button on Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse.
Also make sure Universal Access is not turned on as it too can cause funny behavior in the mouse click actions, in Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Universal Access.

  • How do I / Can I access "prior" pages in a PDF Doc in iBooks?

I am producing a pdf document that is a decisiopn tree that is to be used on an iPad or iPhone in, of course iBooks for species identifications.  I create the book in Pages (for the vector graphics & text) and am placing links using Acrobat.  I would like to allow the reader/ user to retrace their steps back through the decision tree the same as is inherent to Acrobat & Reader.  But of course the menuing items to do this are not accesible in iBooks nor in any other implementation of a PDF reader that I have found in ios.  Is this something (prior page stack - does it exist?) I can access through the developers toolkit?

    See your other post.

  • How can I make safari open a word/pdf doc rather than downloading it?

    Se above

Safari can view a PDF file without downloading it to the computer.
Word files can not be opened automatically after download.
Check Safari preference / General tab and look at the bottom of the window.

  • Preserving hyperlinks in Word to PDF Acrobat (MAC) conversion

Recently purchased Acrobat XI to convert rich text Word documents into PDF files that can contain live hyperlinks embedded in text.  Specifically, I want to be able to include a name of an organization in the PDF version of the file so that if a reader clicks on the group's name, a browser will open the embedded URL associated witht he group's name.  This feature worked fine the first day after purchasing Acrobat XI.  However, a few days later I received a notice to update Acrobat.  I just did so after discovering the feature described above was not working.  After completing the Acrobat update, the feature is still not working in the PDF version of the file.  What can I do to fix this?  Thank you.

    What is your Acrobat version?
    What exactly means "not working"?

  • Hyperlinks not working in PDF created from Word

I have created a Word document containing hyperlinks but when I print it to a PDF file (using Acrobat 7.0.9 on Windows Server 2003), the hyperlinks look OK in the PDF file but nothing happens when I click on them.
In Acrobat, under Edit > Preferences > Convert to PDF > Microsoft Office > Edit Settings, the "Add bookmarks and links to Adobe PDF file" option is ticked.
How can I get the hyperlinks to work in a PDF file created from a Word document?

The original post did not indicate the method of creating the PDF. The result that was obtained was what happens when you print to the Adobe PDF printer. To get the hyperlinks embedded in the PDF, you have to use the PDF Maker (create PDF in WORD 2007).

  • Can't make hyperlinks in CS 5

I can't make hyperlinks in ID CS5. I highlight some text, select new hyperlink in the hyperlink panel, type in a url, cllick ok. The linked text shows up in the panel, but in the document it's still just text. It's not a link. What am I doing wrong?

If you have a full URL showing in your text, you can choose New Hyperlink from URL from the Hyperlink panel menu.
If you want an object or text to create a hyperlink to the URL, the method is different: You need to make a hyperlink destination first. On the Hyperlink panel, choose New Hyperlink Destination from the panel menu. Choose a URL destination. Then move to the object you want as your trigger and choose New Hyperlink.  Select the URL destination as the target.
If that's not working, try deleting your InDesign preferences: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526990
