Can push notifications update themselves?

I love the new feature in iOS5 to be able to see notifications on my lock screen, this is something I've been waiting for for a long time.
However, I'm disappointed with the implementation. Push works very unreliably with my iCloud account on my 4S, which is a disappointment. But when new messages do get pushed to the phone they also appear as notifications on the lock screen. So far, so good. But since I'm on my Mac all day long, I almost always end up checking and replying to emails on my Mac. When I pick up my iPhone to leave my desk, what I have is a lock screen full of emails that arrived and were already deleted hours ago. How does this make ANY sense?
Perhaps it's related to the problems I have with push: emails seem to be pushed to the iPhone when the unread count is 0, but at some point they stop rolling in, and the unread count stops reflecting the real unread count as per my Mac. So if I have 5 new emails showing on my iPhone, and I go to my Mac to check and delete them, they never go away from the iPhone and new mail stops being pushed.
I'm using, of course, iCloud for everything: contacts, calendars, mail, etc.
Push was unreliable for my on my iPhone ever since it was introduced. Now that lock screen notifications follow the same pattern, I feel really let down.

We do the same and track push via Omniture. You have to have an analytics account and make sure the app is linked and has it's own dashboard.

  • Universal Apps and Push Notifications (Question on both Store and Phone app)

I have a Universal App and trying to implement notifications. I have an Azure Notification Hub and the code in the app.xaml.cs (shared) file that is creating the channel and binding to my notification hub. This all works great for the Windows Store app.
However, I don't receive any notifications on the Phone app (running in the emulator). I am wondering if this is because the code to create the PushNotificationChannel is only registering once (the Store app) and has the same URI as the phone app. This line
of code is what I am referring to:
    var channel = await PushNotificationChannelManager.CreatePushNotificationChannelForApplicationAsync();
Since this is by application, and I am essentially running the same app twice on the same machine, via the phone emulator, is only one URI being generated for this?
    Thanks for any assistance.

When you created the push notifications in the Azure, you chose the code fr Windows Store, not Windows Phone. as you mentioned you having a universal apps.
Hint: Did you enabled push notifications for local testing ?
This is the 4 steps to have a successful Push notification integration with your app
Register your app for push notifications
Update the service to send push notifications
Enable push notifications for local testing
Test push notifications in your app

     Hi,
One of my ex-colleagues has installed a NI-DAQ 6.5 in our system. [And I do not see any other naitional instruments card in the CPU of the computer, may be he removed it] I deleted the account and all his files in the system. When I am trying to install version8.0, its not getting installed and giving me a message that I should uninstall the previous version by going to Add/Remove programs in the control panel.
I tried doing that, but the "Change/Remove" button does not seem to work...[There is no response and so unable to install the new version...]
Any idea how can this problem be solved?
It is a windowsXP operating system with SP2 installed on a machine with P4 processor.
    Thanks

  • How can I update a push notification that's not on my settings under notifications?

I am trying to turn on notifications in the Starbucks app, so in the app I go to settings then when I select Starbucks Notifications it gives an error message that reads..."You currently have Push Notifications turned off. Please update your device Settings."  but when I go into into my phone Settings no where is the Starbucks app listed anywhere. Not in "In Notification Center" or "Not In Notification Center". How am I supposed to update the device settings if I don't see it anywhere???  Thanks.
    Tommy V.

I know push can be set as follows.  I think this will help your issue even though it may sound like it doesn't directly apply.
Go to Settings --> Mail, Contacts, Calendars --> Fetch New Data.  Turn on "Push".

  • My facebook app has stopped updating and send push notifications while not open. How can I fix this?

My iphone facebook app just recently stopped sending push notifications when I receive messages. It doesn't even show the little red circle on the icon.
If I open the app all updates will be loaded and when I close out the icon will have the little red circle indicating the amount of unread messages I have. It will not update while the app is closed though.
Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?

Check your Notification Center settings (in the Settings app) to see if you have Facebook blocked on anything.
If not, just delete the App, reboot your phone, then reinstall from App Store.

Return the iPhone and get your money back. It has been
hacked/modified/jailbroken and likely cannot be made

  • Push Notifications not working on any app (Whatsapp, Beejive, Mail) after update 5.1.1, Help!

I'm gonna try to be clear with my problem. I have a Gmail Account working on Microsoft Exchange, for IM messaging I'm using Beejive IM with Push and I'm also using Whatsapp.  Before Updating it to iOS 5.1.1 all Push notifications were working flawless, however, after I upgraded it to 5.1.1, I began having troubles. After 1 minute of having the Iphone locked, I don't get any push notification, nor on the email, nor on the Whatsapp, neither on the Beejive. If I unlock it and I re-open one of them, for ex, I go to check my contact list on Beejive, I get all the mails, and all the instant msgs that people had sent to me after I locked my iPhone; it's like, my iPhone was locked for 30 minutes. In those 30 minutes people sent me 4 msgs on whatsapp, 4 msgs on beejive and 4 mails. Once I unlock my iPhone and I go to one of the 3 apps (mail, whatsapp or beejive), I get the 12 items (4 msg from whatsapp, 4 msgs from beejive and 4 mails) at that exactly time. It's crazy, it's like, with this new update push notifications got disabled for every app or what happened to my iPhone on this upgrade? I really need help. WIthout Push, none of them apps works cool for me. I'm using Iphone 4 on a 3G network.
Ps: I tried restoring it x3, I unistalled the apps, mail, etc and nothing worked.
PS2: If someone is using whatsapp or beejive im with push on the new iOS 5.1.1 and push notifications are working good for them, please let me know it so I will know it's my iPhone hardware problem to bring it to technical service
    Thanks in advance

    SAME PROBLEM
The Apple store are trying to say they know nothing of this problem,  they know that if  you delete your yahoo mail and then add the account again then push notification works for a day.  So they do that for you, but won't listen when you tell them that it won't be working by the next day! This is to get you out of the shop.  They don't have an answer to why your other notifications aren't working (like alerts etc) even though you have push on.
So what are we to do?  The main point for me getting an iPhone was being able to be alerted when I received an email as I am out and about all day!
How can we get somebody in Apple to admit this problem and find a resolve for it before we all have to go buy a phone that will notify you of your email, messages ans alert?

  • HT201210 Since my update to IOS7 all my apps say that I have to go to itunes for push notifications. What? I cant find that option anywhere, and I am ready to push this phone through an open window.

Please HELP ME !! Ever since I updated my phone to the IOS7 it has not allowed me to have push notifications on any apps. It states that I must go to itunes to get push notifications.  However, I go to itunes on my phone it is just the store, I go on my computer it just shows what apps I have.  This is beyond frustrating.

    Hey Chapup,
First, I would try this and see if it applies to your situation:
To use certain services, iTunes must download and install an authentication token on the device. Because iPad and iPod touch do not require an active Internet connection to activate, these tokens may not be downloaded and installed during initial setup.
You can resolve this issue by verifying that iTunes has an active Internet connection. Use the following steps:
Open iTunes on your Mac or PC.
Verify that your Mac or PC has an active Internet connection by accessing the iTunes Store in iTunes.
Connect your iPad or iPod touch to your Mac or PC.
After the sync completes, verify you can access YouTube.
Note: iTunes 9.1 or later is required when using iPad.
via: iPad and iPod touch: Unable to use YouTube or Push notifications
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3305
And if that doesn't resolve the issue then I would backup the device to iTunes and restore it. Just be cautious and back up first, since restoring deletes all content and settings:

  • I can not enable an Apple Push Notification Cert

This all started after migrating our Lion server to a newer iMac.  After deleting out the old Apple Push notification this oddness happened:
When I check the box next to "Enable Apple push notifications" it either presents a place for me to enter my username and ID, or open up like I already have a certificate (but without any information for "Apple ID" or "Expires").
When it prompts me for my credentials, and I enter them correctly,  it returns this message:
"An unexpected error (-1) has occurred"
Checked the system log and this is happening a lot:

Thank you for your escalation. We're aware of this behavior and our system is currently under maintenance with no ETA for completion at this point in time. You can try again periodically to see if the system has come back up. We'll let you know once there's an update as well.

  • Social: Update to Include Push Notifications and C...

    Hi,
I've been thinking since about the first day i had my N8 that Social should have Facebook Notifications, as well as enabling them to be "Pushed" to the device's Homescreen, and Facebook Chat. If iMonster can have it, so can we!
I was looking at the developer end of Nokia, and came across Ovi Notifications, enabling push Notifications to Homescreen. So that part is possible.
As for chat, if third party apps can utilise the FB chat server, why can't Nokia?
My suggestion is that Nokia take this on board and include it in the v1.4 update of the Social App.
    Anyone else agree?

I have already used it (5800 XM and X7) and was disappointed as it didn't live up to the hype. I don't particularly wanna give it a third shot. ATM, eBuddy is okay, but i really want something native.

I have tried to delete the twitter app, reinstall in on my iPhone 5, and on another iPhone, and even start another email account for testing, but failed.

I am using MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.8.6)
    Your options are:
Upgrade to OS X Lion (10.7.2) or higher and upgrade your iCloud storage plan on your Mac
Go to icloud.com, sign into your iCloud account, delete some your existing email and empty the trash to bring your usage within your current storage limit
Upgrade your storage plan on an iOS device
Ask a friend who has a Mac running Lion or higher if they would be willing to sign out of their account and allow you to sign into your account on their computer without syncing any data with iCloud in order to upgrade your plan.

  • I can't get any Twitter push notifications on the ios5/iPhone 3GS...

For some reason, on the new update, I can't get Twitter push notifications.  No banners, alerts or anything.  I get notifications from everything else (mail, Facebook, SMS, etc), but not Twitter.  I've tested it multiple times with reply and mentions and nothing will pop up on my iPhone 3GS.
Went into Settings>Twitter, but there was no option for notifications, and then I went to Settings>Notifications, and I couldn't find anything for Twitter.
    Help!!

I recently updated my iPhone 3GS with IOS 5.  Since then I've found my phone is very slow, but also that What's App Messenger or Facebook does not give me push notifications.  Everytime I open the app, it tells me to connect with iTunes to use push notifications.  I've done this a few times, but it makes no difference.  I don't know if I'm suppose to change any settings on iTunes, but cant find anything to change.  All my Whatsapp notification settings are on.  I also dont want to uninstall WhatsApp because I'm scared I will lose all my messages.

hi everybody! I've just updated my macbook air (2012) to X Mavericks and suddenly I can't receive push notification in iMessage application anymore. How can I fix the problem?

Just a suggestion, because this was how I ended up fixing mine:
You need to go to Spotlight > Activity Monitor > Search "Notification" > Press Quit
It reboots the notificaton center. If you want it, there's also a youtube video that's only 19 seconds that shows it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=UeXx42iGUs4
