Can QT Pro do this?

I need a program that can take a uncompressed 5gb AVI movie and convert it into a MOV with the following resolutions:
320×180, 640×360, 1280x720 and 1920x1080. Will Quicktime Pro do this?
Thanks
Chaz

Here's part of the answers...
In QuickTime Pro 7.0.4, Mac OS X 10.3.9, pressing command-C to copy without first selecting anything copies a single frame of the video as a PICT image which can be pasted in Photoshop.
Save as AVI.component
--Included with MPEG Streamclip 1.5.1 - not needed for playback
--Adds the following 'things' to QuickTime:
spit:VfW :MPSc "Save as AVI"
--Allows QuickTime to save into avi files without recompressing.

  • Question about Lossless Rendering in AE (PNG not found, can Premier Pro read this "lossless" export?

    Hello,
I want to compose short transitions (45 seconds) in AE CS6 incorporating 3D graphics and also a short intro (30 seconds) containing some streaming video clips assembled in a 3d space as well.
My deliverable will ulitmately be in Blu-Ray format and I need excellent quality.  I have zero concerns about the amount of time it takes to render; I only care about ultimate video quality in my deliverables.
My NLE is Premiere Pro CS6.  I'm working with some beautiful Canon 5D images on a 2008 MacPro tower.  I only photograph the day after it rains so I can always get pristine shots.
What is the best possible workflow for me, given my reliance on AE and PrPro and Canon 5D images and .mov files?
Earlier, Rick suggested exporting in PNG compressed format, QT.  But I don't see that in my render options, although the Lossless option at the top certainly looks appealing.  Can PrPro read that type of export?
Am I doomed to vaguely average quality in Blu-Ray format or is it possible to have a really nice "wow" factor using this workflow?
I'm going to purchase a new X.264 encoder when the Apple version is released this month.
Does that make any difference in how my final results from AE will appear?
If I need to abandon this whole 3d motion graphics enterprise because AE and PrPro, working together, are only capable of vaguely average deliverables with respect to 3D motion graphics, then so be it.
I would prefer to cut my losses now.
    What are your candid thoughts?
    Thanks,

    Thanks fellas!
One two minute video and one photographic screen shot is worth 10,000 words.
Ben, do you recommend purchasing QuickTime 7 Pro for that PNG render workflow?
Also, a friend of mine recommended the following workflow.  Any comments?  Constructing my own custom timeline sounds like a bit of a chore.... perhaps it is worth it?  He's worked quite a bit in large studios and does not recommend PNG here.  Not sure why.
    Matt
    My friend recommended:
"I still recommend ProRes for Adobe, and most of the bigger shops that I've heard of that use Premiere still convert to Prores. Cineform or DNxHD would work just as well, depending on your workflow. You can create a custom timeline that will let you work and render full-res files for those editing codecs, instead of the default low-res mpeg2 that Adobe is set to work with.
Working with H.264 is still much more processor-intensive than many systems are prepared for, and in the ProRes conversion process hopefully you're adding reel and TC info if you don't already have it (I'm betting you don't).
Really it's a question of knowing and taking control of what is happening to your video files, or just letting your system do what it wants, which often isn't what's best.
As far as final conversion... I use Mpeg-4 in an mp4 container to avoid the gamma shifts that i see too often in h.264 .mov files. As much as I love the idea of open source, it's not always practical for professionals. X.264 may be fully compatible, but I haven't had reason to work with it instead of .mp4 files. Given the choice of h.264 vs x.264, I would definitely test out x.264, as I've read that you can avoid gamma issues by using it as well."

  • Can Premier Pro Do This...???...(need help w/ FAST photo montage!)

    well folks...
    i'm really in trouble
i moved sony vegas (8.0) from my office pc to my recording/mastering studio's audio pc...(w/ it's quad IV cpu & tons of RAM)
& now...after moving along quite nicely...all of a sudden the project video screen (lower right) went completely RED...& the project doesn't repond to ANY controls...!!!...seized up tighter than a duck's protuberance.
(just like it did on my office pc)
I rebooted the machine, but that didnt help
so...i'll never make my deadline...on a very important dynamic photo montage i'm constructing for my brother's 50th wedding anniversay...so:
I know premier pro is wonderful for movie editing/creating...but...can it do a dynamic photo montage...???...the kind where one photo image transistions to the next...(w/ music)...& if so...does it have great transition effects & fades & text features (for that job) such as scrolling titles, etc...???
if not...can someone recommend me a program that DOES (in the vein of sony vegas)...???
    thanx,
    mark4man

    i got it...i got it...!!!
so...this 1st screen shot is from an old scanned print; & you can see both pix X pix & document size:
obviously if i uncheck Resample Image...i can't change the pixel dimensions...so I simply did this:
so...is this now my optimum pixel dimensions for HD...(for that particular shot)...???
AND...it's OK that the document size differed (down to 2.283" X 1.8") while remaining at 600ppi...for HD...???
(see...i always assumed that, because there are a gazillion pixels on my 46" LED HD TV...I had to make my scan resolution as great as possible to fill that screen)...& you two are telling me that, because the pix dimension width is now 1080...that shot won't look pixelated (up-sampled) when the movie is played on an HD TV...???
if so...i'm good w/ the info you've given me (actually, great).
    thanx a gazillion,
    mark4man

  • Can QT Pro capture streaming video from webcams?

I'm trying to capture segments of video from the National Geographic's Wildcam Africa, in which they have a live feed of video from a waterhole in Africa 24/7. Can QT Pro do this? (All I can find is info on creating streaming video with QT.)

SnapZ Pro can create any format of QuickTime when you "finalize" the file. You only get one choice at this step so you must plan ahead.
If you capture at 640X480 and export to DV Stream you can edit that file with iMovie. Adjust your Display dimensions so your capture gets the biggest version of the on screen area. If the play window is small (most are 320X240) set your Display to 800X600 prior to capture and see if it helps.

  • Can Quicktime Pro convert to .wmv?

That's pretty much it in a nutshell!
I have made some movies through iMovie, but need to have them in Windows Media Viewer format as well for use on our website, can Quicktime Pro do this?
Or can I do this through iMovie?
Most of the reviews on the Quicktime Pro website are against the software, but go on about iPods more than anything.
    Thanks all.

There is also Popwire's $39 WMV-9 Export Component.

Flip4Mac offers more export options at a higher price however Flip4Mac is also suffering from problems due to its use of the eSellerate authorization system. If you have any other software that uses eSellerate, consider going with Popwire's software instead (which does not use eSellerate.)
Other options are available as stand-alone programs such as Cleaner 6

  • I have AVI files that I need to be MOV files so that I can edit them in Final Cut Pro. I am going to use Quick Time Pro for this....do I have to 'export' it or can I just 'save as', or is there even a difference? Thanks in advance for your help!

I have AVI files that I need to convert to MOV files so that I can edit them in Final Cut Pro. I am going to use Quick Time Pro for this....When I have the files open in QT Pro do I have to 'export' it or can I just 'save as', or is there even a difference? Thanks in advance for your help!

I strongly recommend you use compressor to do the conversion (if it will open the files - since quicktime will open them, it will more than likely do it.
Compressor allows you to customize presets and save them and apply them to multiple files.  Although the interface may seem daunting, it's actually pretty simple.
Even if you can edit the avi in fcp, it's not a good idea.  Liable to cause problems down the road.

The device may be formatted for Windows, as NTFS. The format is readable, but not natively writable on a Mac. To write to the device, you must either reformat it (erasing all the contents) or install third-party software to enable write access to NTFS.

  • I replaced my hard drive on my late 2006 Macbook Pro.  I tried to do a reinstall of Tiger 10.4.5 from my start up disk.  I get an error that states "can't install on this computer." HELP

I replaced my hard drive on my late 2006 Macbook Pro.  I used the disk utility and erased the drive and formatted it to OSX Journaled .  When I tried to install the OS from the start up disks I got the error "Can't install on this computer.  I have verified the drive.
I have used Super Duper to copy my old drive to my new drive.  But I wanted to do a fresh install.  How do I go about this?

Did you do the Super Duper clone before you tried to reinstall the OS? If so, the original install disc is likely earlier than 10.4.11, and that may be why you are getting the message.
When trying to reinstall the OS, did you select the "Archive and Install" option? If not, you might try that. Here's a link that might help:

Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
There may be third-party software that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting a TcpWindowSize entry into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause these errors. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet size modification for assistance or follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Verify that access to ports 80 and 443 are allowed on your network.
Verify that communication to albert.apple.com or photos.apple.com is not blocked by a firewall, or other Internet security setting.
Discard the .ipsw file, open iTunes and attempt to download the update again. See the steps underAdvanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations.

    Hi
Time needed can depend on several things.
    • less than 5 GB free space on Start-up (Mac OS) hard disk = Redicolous long times AND a DVD that most probably will not work OK
Medicine - I never go under 25GB free space
    • Use of strange file formats into iDVD - can force it to de-code first then re-encode - this can take long long times
    I use
Video - StreamingDV as from miniDV tape Cameras - or QuickTime Movies Converted to StreamingDV
    Audio - .aiff 16-bit 48 kHz - (no .mp3, .wma etc)
    • Use of old Mac - My G4 600MHz took about 24 hour per hour movie. my dG5 - about 2 hours per hour (I use Pro Quality encoding)
    • Pro Quality encoding - takes about x2 to process a movie
