Can QTs burned to DVD be edited later?
I have been using a Miglia analog to DV box to pull documentaries I have recorded on VHS to an external hard drive, with two goals - to transfer the video to DVD so I can save space, and to later use the documentaries as raw material for practice iMovie editing projects. I've figured out how to burn videos to DVD so I can accomplish goal number one, but I am unsure of whether I can use what's on the DVD for iMovie projects in the same way that I currently use the raw DV. I don't want to keep the DV around because in its current form it takes up a MASSIVE amount of disk space.
If I can't use what's on the DVDs I'm creating later as editable material, is there a way to compress and archive the raw DV for later use? If so, what's the highest compression rate I can get away with without loss of picture quality?
Have I lost some fidelity from the original VHS by
converting it to DV -- and since I currently can't
afford the hard disk space required for the number of
videotapes I have to convert -- if I opt to burn the
info to DVD to save space, will there be another
degradation of image quality on that end?
Well, VHS isn't exactly a high quality image format to start with (especially if you squeeze 6 hrs on a tape), so you probably haven't lost much.
For maximum storage quality for reuse, if you have a DV camcorder, you could play your movie out of iMovie back to a miniDV tape.

I can't burn a dvd using any method, idvd tells me that my super drive is missing, dvd studio pro quits when i click burn and disk utility keeps spitting the disk out when I click burn and enter the disk??? how do i repair my superdrive for imac, or how do I do whatever I need to do to get it working: I have already tried using a lens cleaning cd and also restored my nvram or something i forget what it was called but i restarted my computer holding down command+optoion+p+r and still nothing???
Free solutions are the best, although if I have to pay I will, I would prefer to not have to buy an external burner if possible and already know that is an option so please don't give me that answer... thank you for any help you can giveUnless your iMac is still covered by AppleCare, get an external DVD burner.
You can get perfectly good ones from Amazon for less than $40. -

RomainHi
The error log doesnt provide any very useful information.
According to this error log the simulation was running correct but the burning process was not started.
In such case its very hard to say why it happens. Possibly the drive is damage and cannot calibrate the lens properly or you use not compatible medias.
The burning process depands also on the fiels and data which youwant to burn.
Some data, CD, DVDs are encrypted and its not possible to burn and to copy it.
In other case you could also try to burn the medias with lower speed and not with 24x.
But in worth case you the drive has a malfunction and you have to replace it ;( -
How can I burn a dvd now that I can't download premiere pro cs6 with Encore?
How can I burn a dvd now that I can't download premiere pro cs6 with Encore?
Here's what you do to get Premiere CS6 + Encore:
Just click here (it's the same link as the more information link in CC.)
or
Go to your Creative Cloud application (on the menu bar) and go to Adobe Premiere CC and click more information
There is a dropdown menu that says "Adobe Premiere Pro CC" near the top.
Click it and the other option is "Adobe Premiere Pro CS6." Select that.
Now on the top right corner of the page it has a download button that says "Download Adobe Premiere Pro CS6."
It is included in your CC subscription.
However, a word of warning, you cannot use Adobe Dynamic Link to link to a Premiere CC sequence directly in Encore. A CS6 sequence still works fine, but if you have a CC project, you will need to encode your sequence into a DVD friendly format (MPEG2 file). I'm really hoping that Adobe changes this in their upcoming release, and just adds the ability to import CC sequences into Encore, then I would be fine with them not including it in the normal CC package, or updating it. But I haven't seen anything about it in the release notes.
A lot of people still want their DVDs and it's a lot easier to just dynamically link the sequence. -

How can I burn a dvd without themes?
how can I burn a dvd without themes?
(From fellow poster Mishmumken: )
How to create a DVD in iDVD without menu (there are several options):
1. Easy: Drop your iMovie in the autoplay box in iDVD's Map View, then set your autoplay item (your movie) to loop continously. Disadvantage: The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
2. Still easy: If you don't want your (autoplay) movie to loop, you can create a black theme by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the dropzone (text needs to be black as well). Disadvantage: The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
3. Still quite easy but takes more time: Export the iMovie to DV tape, and then re-import using One-Step DVD.
Disadvantage: One-Step DVD creation has been known to be not 100% reliable.
4. (My preferred method) Easy enough but needs 3rd party software: Roxio Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just drag the iMovie project to the Toast Window and click burn. Disadvantage: you'll need to spend some extra $$ for the software. In Toast, you just drop the iMovie project on the Window and click Burn.
5. The "hard way": Postproduction with myDVDedit (freeware)
Tools necessary: myDVDedit ( http://www.mydvdedit.com )
• create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
• Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
• Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
• Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
• Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
• Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned. If it works save and close myDVDedit.
• Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager:
http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html
Our resident expert, Old Toad, also recommends this: there is a 3rd export/share option that give better results. That's to use the Share ➙ Media Browser menu option. Then in iDVD go to the Media Browser and drag the movie into iDVD where you want it.
Hope this helps! -
Can not Burn CD/DVD after update to 10.6.7

The burn file locks and would not allow the lock to be removed from the "Get Info" in the file sec. Any solution? please help
Downloaded the Combo Update (other than the one intended for 'early 2011 MBP', and it will not run on this computer. Says something like it is not authorized, or not intended for this computer. Did re-run the update for 'early 2011 MBPs' same result. Was able to solve the font display issue, but not the incorrect icon issue, and FaceTime will not run at all. Says it is not designed for the OS I have on this computer, and will not even start. I have tried to go to the AppStore, just to see if I can download the latest version - no dice. Won't let me download it. Says FT already installed on this computer. Tried deleting FT, and then downloading - same message. ?????

Hello MacHeads: I downloaded Handbrake 0.9.1 for Tiger, so I can upload a homemade DVD for editing in imovie. Problem is I can't even access Handbrake Help book, because I think my firewall settings are preventing me. I tried turning off all my firewall settings.? IDK if I'm even doing that right. Can anyone help out here?
You don't need Handbrake for that if it is your own DVD.
You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle.
a DVD is in a compresed format called mpeg2, which is standard across all DVDs. This is what is known as a 'final delivery format' and is not suitable for editing. Because is is compressed, a 4.7GB DVD can hold a two hour movie (dual layer DVDs twice that), whereas the DV stream from a video camera, which runs at about 13GB per hour, is not compressed and IS intended for editing.
In other words you have to 'reverse engineer' the DVD back to an uncompressed format in ordfer to edit it. There is a penalty for doing this in terms of slight quality loss, but it is one you can live with.
When you have your DVD as an icon on your desktop, double-click it, and it will open to reveal a TS-Folder containing a number of various files, some called VOB. These are the constituent parts of any video DVD.
When you have downloaded and installed mpegStreamclip, and purchased and installed the Apple mpeg2 plugin, open mpegStreamclip and drag the entire TS Folder into its window. Then using the various menus available to you (just explore them and you will get the hang of it) ask it to convert to DV.
That DV file, which will be many times larger than the original TS Folder, and which can a while to create (be patient - make coffee or prune the roses!) is what you can now import into iMovie for editing etc.
When you have finished doing that, you then have to turn the project back into a DVD.
mpegStreamclip can be downloaded from here:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, but you must also have the Apple mpeg2 plugin :
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal. -
Can I burn a DVD with Leopard?
I just purchased a new MacPro and it should arrive in about 2 weeks. A simple question. Can I burn a DVD using the OS or do I need a seperate software package to do this?
I haven't used a MAC in about 20 years so I am a "newbie".You can burn a data DVD with Leopard's Finder:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8398.html
or Disk Utility:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8729.html
and the Mac Pro also ships with iDVD which supports up to 2 hours on a 4.7 GB DVD, and over 3 hours on an 8.4 GB Dual Layer DVD.
Since I'm not as familiar with iDVD, you may want to post your question here if you plan on using it:

Other movie DVD software made by third parties offer additional capabilities. -
Can't burn a DVD without Administrator Rights
Hi,
We don't allow our users to run with administrator rights on our domain. If we take away the admin rights, they can't burn a DVD, but if I do a RunAs Administrator on Premiere Elements, they can. How can I run P.E. without admin rights so they can burn a DVD? We are running Windows XP SP3, 32bit mode. Thanks.Aside from Hunt's idea of writing the output to a folder and using the free Imgburn to write to a disc (have you tried that?) you have just run up against one of the design limitations of all flavors of Premiere... Elements and the various versions of Premiere Pro
The products are simply not DESIGNED to run in a network environment... they are meant to be used by one user on one computer, with full rights to be able to use all functions
I don't know what to suggest, but you may need to find a different product, if Hunt's suggestion does not work for you
Do note that I do NOT work for Adobe... but I've been reading these forums for many years, and the answers I've seen have all been the same... the products just are not designed to, and do not work in a network environment
Even using PPro/Encore CS5, due to Win7 settings, whereI am the owner and only user of the software, I must right click the Encore icon and select Run as Administrator when I want to create a dual layer DVD... but not when I'm creating a single layer DVD
For your situation... I've never seen a solution other than full Administrator rights to use all program functions -

Can't burn a DVD on Premiere Elements 12
At 98% media encoding the DVD is spit out and I get the following: internal software error:/premiere/elements/molecules/pre-mediacore/External/AuthorScript/Source
Any suggestions? I need the video for a class this week!ATR,
Thank you for the reply and suggestions. I did some more researching and found a suggestion to remove the stop marker at the end of my video....and it worked! Apparently the stop marker causes an internal error. Mystery solved.
Thank you again for the ideas. I'm going to keep them on file for the next burn hic-up.

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on?
Is this an external or internal burner?
Would you say that this is a case of "it worked before but not now" or "it never worked before"?
Although you cannot burn to disc DVD, can you burn your Timeline to folder. If so, the VIDEO_TS Folder from the burn to folder + ImgBurn to get your DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc may be your answer to this time crunch.
Let us start here and then decide what next depending on your answers.
Next step may be getting more information about your project settings and properties of your source media.
Could you post a screenshot of the error message that you are getting?
More details in the morning when we will be watch for your follow up.
Thanks.

Can't burn any DVDs on external firewire drive
Since I installed OS 10.4.9, neither DVDSP or toast titanium will recognize a "stable connection" to my external firewire lacie recorder... the message I get from toast is:
1. Interface Error: -50
The connection is not stable
2. The drive reported an error:
SENSE KEY = Illegal request
SENSE CODE = 0x30, 0x50
CANNOT WRITE MEDIUM, INCOMPATIBLE FORMAT
And I've been using the same media for years, without a problem.
But if I connect this device to another laptop or desktop, it'll work fine.
It still can burn CDs, and read every format. But just can't burn DVDs.
DVDSP gives me the same problem. I can use my internal burner but it's slower than using my external drive.
Ideas?

Have you tried using ntfs-3g?
That's the first time I've heard about ldm, but its readme https://github.com/LemonBoy/ldm says it only automounts stuff, nothing about rw support for every existing filesystem.
Edit: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 4#p1075004
TheLemonMan wrote:About the drive being mounted as read only, by default ldm uses the standard mount options which include the "ro" flag, unless a fstab rule is set. So doublecheck your fstab.
yeah everything works now thanks again -
Sending .mov file to client and can't burn to DVD
I am sending a proof .mov file to a client that is windows based. Is there any burning software that will burn a .mov file and play on a windows machine without me converting it to a .AVI file? If I do have to convert it to a .AVI file will there be resolution or quality loss and will they even be able to burn that? They have NERO as their burning software, im using toast titanium and have quicktime pro. thanks
Toast 8 is the answer. Clients want to get something they can play EASY. DVD works on the TV and PC and needs nothing software wise. Worth the money. Plus the video quality looks good enough but really is not good enough to steal and edit.
