Can Quicktime Pro convert CamStudio video into iMovie?

Dear All
I use CamStudio to record some Windows application presentations. I heard that QuickTime Pro gives the ability to convert any playable movie to be converted to formats that iMovie accepts. I am pondering if I should by QuickTime pro or not. Could you please give me some advice? Here are my questions.
I am wondering if anyone has tried to import the video recorded using CamStudio to QuickTime Pro and convert to a format that iMovie can accept and edit?
Another question would be, is there any formatting limitation iMovie possesses which limits the merger of two videos from two sources?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

Here's the summary of what I did :
Downloaded [CamStudio|http://camstudio.org>
Openen VirtualBox on my Mac and installed Camstudio in Win XP.
Made a screenmovie.
Saved it to the Mac.
Opened it in QT Pro on the Mac.
Exported it to QuickTime (.mov) and MPEG-4 (.mp4).
Opened both in iMovie.
Made movie with both clips.
Exported it to .m4v.
So it is possible.
And here's the movie : [CamStudio|http://www.wyodor.net/_Discussions/CamStudio.html]

  • Can Quicktime Pro convert .mkv video formats to mp4 video formats

I purchased Quicktime Pro believing it could convert .mkv video formats to MP4 video formats, however, the resulting output file is just a 60kb file from an original 971,936 kb file.
I registered the key as given to me in the purchase receipt email, I used Export to MRP, I selected the input .mkv file. All seemed to be OK until it ended creating the short 60kb file.
    Suggestions please.

As indicated on the Apple web site, keying the QT Player for "Pro" use merely unlocks editing and conversion features built into the app but not available without the key. It does not add any new file type or codec support beyond that for which the QT Player is already configured on your platform.

An MKV file will convert only if you have support for both the MKV file container (which is not natively QT compatible) and codecs to handle the specific codecs contained in the MKV file container if available for QT use.
    Suggestions please.
I do not normally use MKV files on a daily basis and so, on those occasions when I do need to use them as a source for conversions to mobile devices, I use the free HandBrake application. As I see it, you can either try to add the missing support needed to use QT 7 Pro or you could download HandBrake for iTunes managed/mobile device files or use FFmpeg (on which HandBrake is based) for more general target conversions. As a non-PC user, I am assuming here that the Windows versions of both the HandBrake and FFmpeg apps have the same features as are available in the Mac versions of these apps.

  • Can Quicktime Pro convert  Flip MinoHD video for Adobe Premiere 2.0

The Flip MinoHD shoots pretty good video that I want to edit in Adobe Premiere 2.0. The problem is that the Flip HD files are in a .mp4 format that Premiere doesn't recognize.
Can Quicktime Pro convert the Flip .mp4 files into
    1) .avi files 720x480 with the DV standard that Adobe Premiere 2.0 can edit? I believe this type of file is a "type 2 avi".
    2) a type of HD file that Adobe Premiere 2.0 can edit (when editing HD video - mostly from my sony HD camcorder whose files work fine with Premiere.)?

If QT Player can open those files, it should be able to export them into a format Premiere can work with. You can see the export formats QuickTime supports here:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/pro/specs.html
Note that AVI is a container format. QT, I believe, exports AVI using the Cinepak codec by default, so make sure Premiere supports that or select a different format (DV Stream, perhaps).
Pro adds nothing in the way of playback capabilities, so try the free QuickTime and see if it can open and play those files. If it can't, then don't waste your money on a QuickTime Pro key.

  • What is a M3U file and can QuickTime Pro convert

I am on You Tube, and am having all kinds of people wanting to be in my video's. So I had this girl shoot some footage and send it to me, and it came as a M3U file. When i clikc it , iTunes opens, I think it's some kind of streaming file? She has a Sony camera, and just uploads from her camera onto You tube, with NO prolbmes. Will QuickTime Pro convert this to a .MOV file, or is there a program that will do this? i slo have Final Cut Pro...but I could not get that to do it.

The .m3u extension is a "playlist" file and is audio only.

  • Can Quicktime Pro convert to .wmv?

That's pretty much it in a nutshell!
I have made some movies through iMovie, but need to have them in Windows Media Viewer format as well for use on our website, can Quicktime Pro do this?
Or can I do this through iMovie?
Most of the reviews on the Quicktime Pro website are against the software, but go on about iPods more than anything.
    Thanks all.

There is also Popwire's $39 WMV-9 Export Component.

Flip4Mac offers more export options at a higher price however Flip4Mac is also suffering from problems due to its use of the eSellerate authorization system. If you have any other software that uses eSellerate, consider going with Popwire's software instead (which does not use eSellerate.)
Other options are available as stand-alone programs such as Cleaner 6

  • Can quicktime pro convert windows movies?

Hi look i was told that quicktime pro can convert movies that you can play on windows media player to be able to play in quicktime format. well im trying to play a movie and it keeps sending me to a third party site list and saying to down load on of the downloads to be able to play the file. but idk which one none of them say which one is for which file. cna anyone help?

It depends on the format. QuickTime cannot natively play any WMV content, if that's what you're referring to. There are WMV plugins for Macs, but I'm not aware of any for Windows, so if you have WMV content and want to get it into QuickTime format, you'll have to use some other tool to convert the WMV to a format QuickTime can accept (a list can be found here.

I can't import video recorded in ESP mode into iMovie or Final Cut. Is there some trick to it, or am I kinda screwed?? PLease help me if you can..

If your camera has analog inputs, then yes. Unfortunately, today that's a big "if" as most cameras only has analog OUTputs (to play on a TV).

  • Does Quicktime Pro convert VOB DVD files?

I'm very new to DVD although not to Macs (Thankfully). I'm ripping my hair out trying to convert Canon (rewriteable) dvds into a format the Mac will read. (Windows seems to support all dvds with Ulead etc....) Will Quicktime Pro convert VOB files into something I can play back on the Mac? I assume from other postings the files should be in MPEG-2 format. If not, what on earth can I buy that will do the job simply and cheaply....

Try Mpeg StreamClip: ( http://www.squared5.com ) it's free. It will convert from VOB to DV, QT and several other formats, but you will have to have the Mpeg 2 codec on your Mac to use it, that can be purchased here, ( http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/ ) if you don't have it already.
Another sharware program for transcoding, to different formats and can burn to DVD when it finished transcoding is called VisualHub, found here: http://www.techspansion.com/visualhub/tryit.php . It comes with the codecs, (via a free download after VH is installed.
    It costs $23.32USD

  • Re user tip: How can I import a homemade DVD into iMovie for editing? - I've followed instructions so far so good, until I get to "You can then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME and choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your video codec. "  How do I do that?

Re AppleMan 1958 excellent user tip: How can I import a homemade DVD into iMovie for editing? -
I've followed instructions with success until  "You can then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME and choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your video codec. "  How do I do that?
I installed MGEG Streamclip 193b8 and used their utility to install quicktimempeg2 and got a message stating it was successfully installed.  (I'm on latest Maverick 10.9.2 on iMac)  Then I dragged the VIDEO_TS file from my home DVD into the streamclip app.  It asked which of 4 files to use, and I selected the first one.  Streamclip played the video with the sound.  so far so good. but now I cannot figure how to use quicktime player 10.3 to export this vob file out of streamclip.

Thank you for your quick reply and for clearing up my confusion.  I'm exporting the first section now.  I choose the smallest size, 3x4 but I'd prefer to go higher as this DVD was originally a VHS home movie.  I'm wondering if after three conversions (VHS,->DVD->MPEG) the resolution will be so poor as to not support a larger size frame?  If it can, what size should I select when I export?

  • I imported an hour of video into iMovie HD and cut it down to a 33 sec clip, and emptied the trash.  When I save the project, the file size is 20Gb.  How can I save just the 33 sec clip?

I imported an hour of video into iMovie HD and cut it down to a 33 sec clip, and emptied the trash.  When I save the project, the file size is 20Gb.  How can I save just the 33 sec clip?

Non-destructive editing is an important feature of iMovie HD 6.
iMovie preserves the entire copy of every clip you place into your movie in case you change your mind at a later stage.
So, if you have cut out one minute from a 45 minute clip, iMovie will have stored two complete copies of that clip. This is why is helps to set import as 3-5 minute clips rather than one huge chunk. As DV runs at 13GB per hour your project files can get very big.
One workaround is to complete the editing of a section of the movie, then export that to Quicktime: highlight the clip/s, choose Share-Quicktime, turn on Share selected clips only, and choose Full Quality from the pop-ip menu.
Once you have saved the stand-alone clip to your hard drive, you can re-import it into your project using the File/Import command, and delete the original long clip/s from the project.

  • Can I import video into iMovie Theater directly?

In iPhoto I created a Slideshow with Music of an iPhoto Album of pictures and video clips. When exported this creates a   .m4v  file.
Can I directly get this file into iMovie Theater? Without first going to iMovie, importing the .m4v file and Sharing it to Theater, which creates a .mp4  file
In other words, can I spare this extra time (and effort for the good iMac; it gets quite hot when rendering)?
(I do not know the difference between these two file types.)

  • Can't import quicktime movie made from Keynote into iMovie media browser

I've created a file in Keynote, exported it to quicktime and would like to import into iMovie. iMovie keeps giving me this error message: Unknown error: the file could not be imported. Can someone help?

Rarely am I able to solve my own problems, regardless of how much effort. But I did figure this one out, simply by trial and error. *To recap... I have created a sample slide show to use as a test run through Keynote (to get the best builds and transitions), to Quicktime Pro, into iMovie (to marry the features of iMovie with the Keynote slides) then back to Quicktime Pro as a final product.* It was a crash course with all 3 applications, so a huge learning curve for me.
Quicktime Kirk helped me successfully with my first go round with this. But with so many nested compression windows and so many combinations of choices, I eventually forgot which settings had worked correctly to give me the quality resolution that I had achieved the first time.
So I posted several messages asking for some clue where I was going wrong. Kirk did get back to me, but told me that I needed to create my project entirely without iMovie. Very frustrating because I knew I had done it before with iMovie.
After literally hours of analyzing all the working files and duplicating the exact settings I used before, two scenarios were happening. One, the end product had terrible resolution quality (not even close to the first time around). *Or two, when trying to import the first Quicktime file created from Keynote into iMovie, there was an error message saying that the file could not be imported*.
So, I eventually decided to try the following:
    *1. Create Keynote file*
*2. Export to QT with "Full Quality/Large" setting checked, and "Include Transparency" checked.*
*3. Open QT file to check quality. If acceptable, export this QT file as a QT file again using the highest quality settings - preferably ones that match the first export from Keynote to QT.*
*4. Open iMovie file and import this new QT file.*
*5. Do my thing with it.*
*6. Export (Share) iMovie file as a final QT file with "Full Quality" setting checked in the first pop-up compression window.*
This sequence proved to be successful with the same high quality resolution as the very first go round with it. I KNOW, though, that this wasn't the sequence I used the first time because I didn't do step 3.
I am just happy that I got what I needed. Now I can create my full presentation without worrying about the outcome in the end.
*Because I'm on a Mac, and the AIC default is used, my next feat is going to be identifying codec settings that are going to work both on Mac and PC (newer machines AND older machines).*
*So, does anyone have a clue how to do this?*
