Can quicktime Pro edit movies??

hello
i just had a quick question, does quicktime Pro edit movies?? my main interest is in aligning dialogue and scenes. i downloaded a few videos off of google video and the sound is 2 seconds ahead of the picture, so was just curious if this could edit that or if any other programs can me recommended
thank you!!

I was new to the program and studied the possibilities by doing it.
I'm not aware of a tutorial that explain in detail what to do.

  • Will QuickTime Pro Edit mp4?

I own the Madonna: The Immaculate Collection on DVD. I have converted the VOB file to mp4, but it is 62 minutes long. Every video is included in the one file. I want to break the videos down individually for my iPod. I don't mind spending the $30 to upgrade my QuickTime to pro it it will allow me to do this. If not, does anybosy know another program ($50 or less) that will? I've also read some user reviews on QuickTime. Are there a lot of bugs/issues with Windows XP? Thanks.

    Will QuickTime Pro Edit mp4?
Yes, but it may not be the best solution in all work flows. Converting and then clipping into segments is a viable solution that will save the final product as an .mov file even though the movie is still in its original format. Reversing the work flow, however, and clipping the file into segments first is not very accurate owing to the way in which the sequential blocks of audio and video data are stored in the file.

A cheaper and perhaps better solution would be to dowload the free Windows version of MPEG Streamclip and use it. Since it employs an MPEG based player/editor window, you can accurately set in and out points for the decrypted VOB and convert the segments directly to individual iPod compatible files. In addition, filters are available to change brightness, contrast, saturation, and/or volume, as well as, custom cropping with improved scaling as part of the conversion process. In some ways, it is also easier to use than QT Pro.
I've also read some user reviews on QuickTime. Are there a lot of bugs/issues with Windows XP?
If you really don't want to use Apple's QT tools, MPEG Streamclip for windows will also use the QT Alternate software instead. I personally don't find QT to be "buggy" to any real degree. Most of my problem have been traced to use of the QT H.264 codec at low video data rates. The "predictor-corrector" routines appear to be written for use at higher data rates (my guess would be in the 2.0 mbps to 5.0 mbps range) and so tend to be slow to "clamp" video data rate excursions in excess of user settings below 1.0-1.5 mbps with certain vintage video content. As I use the Mac version, I'm stuck with QT 7 and simply make adjustments as needed for a 100% conversion success rate for the nearly 400 videos currently on my iPod.

  • Windows Vista & ISight - QuickTime Pro/Windows Movie Maker issues

I recently bought a MacBook Pro and I really like, but I am having one small issue that is really confusing me. Basically, I installed Windows Vista using BootCamp and I also installed all BootCamp drivers successfully. This basically allows me to use ISight for some chat applications (e.g. Live Messenger). However, I can't access ISight through QuickTime Pro Windows Movie Maker. Are those not compatible?
If not, what other options do I have? Basically, I am looking for some software to record ISight video for my family. And, yes, I know there is good software on the OSX side which I am already using, but I also would like to have to option to use some video editing software I already own on Windows.
    Thanks,
    Jens

windtalker64, if it's a .mov you cannot take it into movie maker, it has to be converted to a .avi for movie maker to accept it. I used QT pro to convert a .mov to a .avi, took it into movie maker and it then became a .wmv, which is what I was trying to do. I'm going back 3 years ago when I did this so unless things have changed?

  • Can Quicktime Pro convert  Flip MinoHD video for Adobe Premiere 2.0

The Flip MinoHD shoots pretty good video that I want to edit in Adobe Premiere 2.0. The problem is that the Flip HD files are in a .mp4 format that Premiere doesn't recognize.
Can Quicktime Pro convert the Flip .mp4 files into
    1) .avi files 720x480 with the DV standard that Adobe Premiere 2.0 can edit? I believe this type of file is a "type 2 avi".
    2) a type of HD file that Adobe Premiere 2.0 can edit (when editing HD video - mostly from my sony HD camcorder whose files work fine with Premiere.)?

If QT Player can open those files, it should be able to export them into a format Premiere can work with. You can see the export formats QuickTime supports here:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/pro/specs.html
Note that AVI is a container format. QT, I believe, exports AVI using the Cinepak codec by default, so make sure Premiere supports that or select a different format (DV Stream, perhaps).
Pro adds nothing in the way of playback capabilities, so try the free QuickTime and see if it can open and play those files. If it can't, then don't waste your money on a QuickTime Pro key.

  • Quicktime Pro editing capabilities?

Using a VHS-to-DVD burner, I copied some short films I made in college (i.e. no copyright issues). I'd like to cut the test patterns I have at either end, and I'd like to lighten some of the footage. The files are VOB format. Can QuickTime Pro do this?
I also have some MPG files I'd like to lighten and/or boost the audio on. Does it do that?
    Thanks --
    Christine

I really appreciate all of your help and advice, onetime!
Just to be sure I'm understanding the instrux:
    * I use Handbrake to export to mp4, selecting "large file size" and "constant quality 65%" (or are those options in Quicktime Pro?)
    * In Quicktime Pro, can cut the footage using sliders, and then there's an export function called "mpeg4 passthrough," which saves it as a higher-quality mp4 file.
    * To brighten, I would re-save it as an MOV (using handbrake?), and in QuickTime Pro I'd reopen it and use filters to adjust brightness/contrast.
Sorry if these questions sound dumb -- I have not yet purchased QuickTime Pro because I wanted to be sure it would be usable for my purposes before I did, and so I don't know what the interface is like.
Also, just curious -- do you know why one couldn't brighten footage in the same step and/or format as when one cuts footage in QuickTime Pro? To me, the analogy would be adjusting the color of a JPEG in Photoshop, then having to close and save to a GIF before you could reopen it and use the cloning tool or something. Just wondering why you can't do all your work in one go.
    With much appreciation,
    Christine

  • Can Quicktime Pro convert to .wmv?

That's pretty much it in a nutshell!
I have made some movies through iMovie, but need to have them in Windows Media Viewer format as well for use on our website, can Quicktime Pro do this?
Or can I do this through iMovie?
Most of the reviews on the Quicktime Pro website are against the software, but go on about iPods more than anything.
    Thanks all.

There is also Popwire's $39 WMV-9 Export Component.

Flip4Mac offers more export options at a higher price however Flip4Mac is also suffering from problems due to its use of the eSellerate authorization system. If you have any other software that uses eSellerate, consider going with Popwire's software instead (which does not use eSellerate.)

  • Can quicktime pro convert windows movies?

Hi look i was told that quicktime pro can convert movies that you can play on windows media player to be able to play in quicktime format. well im trying to play a movie and it keeps sending me to a third party site list and saying to down load on of the downloads to be able to play the file. but idk which one none of them say which one is for which file. cna anyone help?

It depends on the format. QuickTime cannot natively play any WMV content, if that's what you're referring to. There are WMV plugins for Macs, but I'm not aware of any for Windows, so if you have WMV content and want to get it into QuickTime format, you'll have to use some other tool to convert the WMV to a format QuickTime can accept (a list can be found here.

  • QuickTime Pro - preparing movie to go on .Mac so it can be downloaded to PC

I have created a movie using different applications (i.e. iPhoto; GarageBand; iMovie; Quicktime Pro, etc.). I have it posted on my website using iWeb, and I am able to download the movie to my desktop where I can resize it to fill the screen. I would like others to be able to do this on their computers.
When I tried it out on my PC, the triangle on the lower right side of the QuickTime movie wouldn't even open. I have QuickTime Pro installed on both computers. Is there a way to save QuickTime movies to .Mac websites so that others can download them to their desktop no matter what kind of computer they have?

    Thanks for the reply.
I will take your answer step by step to make sure I understand. You said:
    1. "Saving" a QuickTime movie using the controller is a feature of the Pro upgrade so only Pro owners can save your iWeb files using the controller menus.
    My response:
My original question mentioned that on my PC I also have QuickTime Pro and yet I'm not able to activate the controller menu (I'm guessing the downward pointing triangle at the bottom right is called the controller menu - if I'm wrong please let me know). I have also told my friends who want to be able to download the movie, that they have to have QuickTime Pro.
    You also stated:
    2. Make sure your page layout in iWeb doesn't have some page element "covering" the controller part of the window.
    My response:
You are right about that. I've discovered that problem several times. It isn't an issue here, however. I also have tried several different ways to save the movie. First just using a blank page with nothing but the movie on it. Next, using the movie page with nothing but the movie on it. Also using both the .mov format (original QuickTime self-contained movie format), and the .m4v format. It still can't be downloaded to the desktop on my PC.
    You added:
    3. To allow others to keep a copy of your file merely requires you give them the direct URL to the file. They can then use any Web browser to keep a copy.
You can add this to your iWeb page as a "text based" link.
I'm not sure I understand this last piece of advice. I have the movie on a website I created through .Mac and iWeb. My friends are able to view the movie on my website. Since the width of the movie is determined by the way iWeb is set up, you can only view the movie ON the website in the width you use when you save it to iWeb. I have resized it as large as possible on the page on my website. When you are able to download a movie from a website to the desktop, however, you can resize it or "Present the movie" so it fills up the screen. You also can open it in iTunes and then convert it to play on an iPod if you wish. That is what I would like others to be able to do so long as they have QuickTime Pro.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "They can use any web browser to keep a copy." How does that allow you to download the movie to the desktop?
Thanks again for responding. If you have any thoughts to add, please send them.

  • Can no longer edit movies

I no longer have the edit marks at the time line for videos. I checked and it still says Pro. I tried to remove the Quicktime preference files from my library folder and even un-registered the PRO serial number then re-registered it. I also downloaded the newest update/version and installed. Still nothing! If I record a new video using built-in isight, I can see the edit marks on the timeline for it.
What's wrong here? I tried a .mov and a .mpg

Works just fine, free, great support and exports to many QuickTime formats.

  • Can Quicktime Pro convert CamStudio video into iMovie?

    Dear All
I use CamStudio to record some Windows application presentations. I heard that QuickTime Pro gives the ability to convert any playable movie to be converted to formats that iMovie accepts. I am pondering if I should by QuickTime pro or not. Could you please give me some advice? Here are my questions.
I am wondering if anyone has tried to import the video recorded using CamStudio to QuickTime Pro and convert to a format that iMovie can accept and edit?
Another question would be, is there any formatting limitation iMovie possesses which limits the merger of two videos from two sources?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

Here's the summary of what I did :
    Downloaded [CamStudio|http://camstudio.org>
Openen VirtualBox on my Mac and installed Camstudio in Win XP.
    Made a screenmovie.
    Saved it to the Mac.
Opened it in QT Pro on the Mac.
Exported it to QuickTime (.mov) and MPEG-4 (.mp4).
    Opened both in iMovie.
    Made movie with both clips.
    Exported it to .m4v.
    So it is possible.
    And here's the movie : [CamStudio|http://www.wyodor.net/_Discussions/CamStudio.html]

  • Quicktime pro editing vs iMovie HD editing....?

I'm trying to decide if I should upgrade to Quicktime Pro.
It seems like the only advantage is full screen mode and capturing clips on the internet. Both of which aren't necessary features for me.
Editing movies and slideshows are listed as features but why would I use quicktime pro if I already have iMovie? Is it better? different? I'm confused...
I use iMovie all the time to edit home movies - would there be any benefit to getting Quicktime Pro?

iMovie is a digital video editing app. If you add a still image to 10 seconds of audio it becomes 300 "copies" (30 fps) of the file.
QuickTime Pro allows you to keep the total file size much lower by using just the data from your source image file (say 30KB's) as it doesn't convert your single image into a "time" like video.
Some examples of my videos made with QuickTime Pro:
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/California/index.html
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/03war/
Both of these examples have a total file size lower than the original audio source file.
QuickTime Pro can also create "custom" player windows:
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/3woodencrosses/index.html
(hit the escape key while viewing to exit full screen mode)
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/MTV
(text and Flash and MIDI music. Under 150KB's).
It can also use custom video effects that do not render as "video" which also keeps the total file size very small:
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/RedneckTexasXmas/index.html
It can use up to 99 "tracks" per movie which allows you to interchange them depending on your audience without having to create a new iMovie "video". As easy as enabling or disabling a track with a mouse click.
You can add text tracks (again, no video rendering) that are very small in file size and are also vector based so they scale in size without distortion:
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/Lemon_Trees/index.html
All of my "movies" are made using QuickTime Pro.
Try it. You'll also find it very useful for converting files to other formats.

  • Quicktime Pro edits like "cut" lossless? No re-encoding, re-compression...?

    Hi,
Does importing, for example, a Motion JPEG file into Quicktime Pro to remove a segment in the middle, or cut off material from the ends, leave all original settings (compression, quality, etc.) intact?
Or might it change settings to match those in Quicktime Preferences or re-encode in some way?
    From playing with the app:
It looked to me that "Save" only changes how the file is played, skipping the "cut" segments, as the file size is the same.
"Save-as a self contained movie" appears to actually remove the cut material as file size decreases. No mention is made of settings.
Export seems to re-encode etc., as many options are presented - and the original format in the example, Motion-JPEG, is not even one of them.
    Thanks.

Does importing, for example, a Motion JPEG file into Quicktime Pro to remove a segment in the middle, or cut off material from the ends, leave all original settings (compression, quality, etc.) intact?
Yes. Even the file container remains unchanged.
Or might it change settings to match those in Quicktime Preferences or re-encode in some way?
No, it doesn't. The only things than may change might be the Inspector window statistics. For instance, if you remove a clip segment containing dark, low-complexity scenecs, the average video data rate may be higher because you deleted a segment containing extremely low video data rates.
It looked to me that "Save" only changes how the file is played, skipping the "cut" segments, as the file size is the same.
This is essentially true. Basically, the blocks of data are just "re-linked" to "skip" the unwanted segment. The file container size is not changed and the "skipped" data remains essentially present but no longer accessible.
"Save-as a self contained movie" appears to actually remove the cut material as file size decreases. No mention is made of settings.
In this case, an entirely new MOV (generic QT) file container is created and the "retined" data is "copied" from the original file to the new one. The file is smaller because the "skipped" data is not copied. Original compression formats (i.e., a copy of the very same data) is contained in the new file. A "Reference" file does something similar. However, it does not actually copy the actual data from one file to the new file. Instead, it mearly copies pointers to the original data allowing you to create one or more playback variations of the original file. This can be a handy expedient when creating "what if" versions of the same master file since the references files are much smaller than the original file. The only thing you have to remember is that the original file cannot be deleted since the "reference" file only contains instructions as to how the original file is to be played back in some "modified" manner.
Export seems to re-encode etc., as many options are presented - and the original format in the example, Motion-JPEG, is not even one of them.
Correct. In this case, the original data is re-compressed as a new file and in a new container. Remember, however, that re-compressing data does not enhance or improve quality since it can't add or create details lost during previous compression. It can, however, reduce further loss of details/quality by selectively using a low compression format which retains all/most of the detail/quality in the source file. This is often done where a user wants to edit highly compressed data which cannot be edited natively in the original compression format otherwise.

  • Can Quicktime Pro capture Micromv?

hey guys, i have been researching this alot, and have had alot of trouble about this, i have a sony dcr-ip5 camera that records micromx format, yea remember those things??? anyways i read somewhere that quicktime pro is able to import that video format from my camera into my macbook using quicktime, and maybe imovie? i think? does anyone know if quicktime pro can read micromc from my camera?? any help would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks guys! merry christmas to everyone
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

anyways i read somewhere that quicktime pro is able to import that video format from my camera into my macbook using quicktime, and maybe imovie?Strange, the reviews I read said just the opposite. First off, QT and iMovie use the same system structures (QT) for conversion and editing. So what applies to one also applies to the other. In this case neither support the import/editing of MPEG-2 compressed files in their normal configuration. You can, of course, purchase the QT MPEG-2 video component ($19.99) from Apple, but would probably only allow playback (probaby without audio), no editing (in MPEG2 format), and, at best, only allow conversion of video data to a fully supported QT compatible format. (iMovie only edits DV compressed files.)
If you already have the QT MPEG-2 component installed, you might try an MPEG based third-party application like MPEG Streamclip (free) for conversion to DV here. However, be advised that most reviews for this product indicate the MPEG-2 compression is non-standard and may or may not be recognized for conversion. In addition, at least one review indicated the FireWire connection was also "special" and it, as well as, the camerera may not be recognized by the computer unless the user employs "Movieshaker" (Sony's "consumer video editing software") or Pinnacle's Video Studeo, which I assume are PC oriented. In addition, at the time of the writing of this review, no MPEG-2 dedicated capture utilities (mostly PC) were compatible.

  • Can Quicktime Pro 7 play dvcpro hd files?

    I have a Macbook Pro os x 10.5.7.
I have Quicktime Pro player 7.6.2
I have been trying to play .mov files that are dvcpro hd files converted from Final Cut. Sound only, no video. A window pops up when I go to play the file that says, "Additional software is required to play this media. It may be available from the quicktime components page." But of course it doesn't say what and on that page I couldn't find anything that seemed to manage this issue.
After all my research I learned that I may not be able to play those files without Final Cut, however, I just played them on my brothers macbook pro, etc (same deal as my machine) and they played. The only difference was in his Quicktime preferences there was a reference to Final Cut color at the bottom of the box. He doesn't have Final cut on his machine and we have the same version Quicktime.
So, is there a codec or something I'm missing to get these files to play? Please help...been searching for an answer for hours to no avail and I really need to get into these files.
    thanks
    C

That's always an option and I've thought about it but my brother's computer is not always available (like now as he has left the premises with it) and I really want to try to work out this kink. Sorry, I didn't say that I actually need to edit these videos and I don't want to lose quality either by converting them to something that may not have the hd great quality they have now.
He does not have FCP and I'm pretty sure he doesn't have Color either. And I found out that he actually has an older operating system than me. Any other suggestions?
    Thanks...really appreciate your time!

  • Can QuickTime Pro embed an MP3 in an MPEG-4, MPEG-2, or FLV container?

I'm just looking for some software that'll let me upload an MP-3 to YouTube. That's pretty much the beginning and end of my interest in QuickTime Pro or anything similar.
    Hope someone can help...

What do You Tube ask for?
MPEG-2 is not a container - it is a multiplexed A/V format used for DVD. QT won't output to FLV (Flash) without buying Flash (mega $) and since when you send to You Tube they make and post it in FLV (or now MP4) for you I think they don't actually ask for FLV do they?
You want to send a video with no video, just audio? You can open an MP3 and save that as a MOV file, there will just be audio (MP3) in a MOV container. Something like MPEG Streamclip should let you open the MP3 and export to an MP4 movie with no movie just AAC audio.
