Can Quicktime Updates interfere with saved iMovie projects?

Hello.
I'm just about to do an update to the latest Quicktime and I wondered if these updates can cause any problems with iMovie projects that have been made and saved on my computer with older Quicktime versions?
Thanks
Rich

Thanks Bengt,
But how about after a project is fully completed and burned to DVD but still remaining stored on the computer as a final iMovie project. In case you want to burn it again or just play it on the computer, will that original iMovie on the computer be confused by a newer Quicktime Update? I have all mine still saved as both disc images and also the original project. I know a disc image will not be affected but I was curious about the original project?

I can't update iPhoto, GarageBand nor iMovie, and iPhoto is the only one I can't open at all. I bought my Macbook half a year ago and when I try to update the Apps it says it's being modified and then that there was an error with Apple Store ):

There is an issue with update servers today, so you'll have to wait anyway.

  • Can I update Twitter Timeline Gallary in Project Siena ?

Can I update Twitter Timeline Gallary in Project Siena ?
I want to update Twitter Timeline Gallary by 60 second each.
    Gallary's Data = Twitter!Timeline()
    "Refresh(Twitter!Timeline())" is NG.
    Regards,

    Hi Yoshihiro,
There are a couple of ways to do this. Add a timer control to your app. Now set the following properties on the timer control:
    Data > Repeat: true
    Data > AutoStart: true
    Behavior > OnTimerEnd: Clear(C); Collect(C, Twitter!Timeline())
    Behavior > OnTimerStart: Clear(C); Collect(C, Twitter!Timeline())
Setting Repeat to true causes the timer to keep cycling from 0 to 60 seconds. Setting AutoStart to true causes the timer to kick off when you visit the screen. Both, when the timer starts off (OnTimerStart), and when it hits 60 seconds (OnTimerEnd), you're
clearing the collection C and then collecting the Twitter!Timerline data into it.
Now, bind the Data > Items property of your gallery to C.
Please note that with the above settings, Twitter will soon return a "Rate limit exceeded" error due to the frequency of your calls.
    Thanks

  • Why are iMovie events (2400 of them) shown in the iDVD movies pane along with my iMovie projects (12 of them)?

Why are iMovie events (2400 of them) shown in the iDVD movies pane along with my iMovie projects (12 of them)?

Sorry about the delay in responding, I've been putting up with a very slow iDVD, but now I'm fed up with it again. My version of iDVD is 7.1.2 (1158) running in Mac OS X, version 10.6.8, with 3.2GHz and i3 processor, 4GB of memory, on a desktop iMac. My version of iMovie'11 is 9.0.4 (1634).
I can stop iDVD from showing iMovie EVENTS (now 3247 of them) in its Media pane under Movies, by moving the iMovie Events folder from the iMovie folder ( that iDVD ALWAYS looks in) to somewhere else in that Directory (where I store all my data, and which I have named "browning").  But then iMovie can't display the EVENTS, because it is looking in the wrong place. So, how can I save iMovie Events in another folder (not iMovies) but somewhere where iMovie will find them?
Is there a method to change the default folders for iMovie and/or iDVD? How does iMovie know where the iMovie default directory is?
Should I put iMovie into the "Main" Mackintosh HD directory?
The Apple Store in Bath, UK, couldn't help, but surely I'm not the only iDVD user who is annoyed with this process?

  • How can I update Jdev with new JDK

I currently have JDev323 and I wonder how can I update it with new JDK 1.4.

What you should do is update the JDeveloper version that you use - 3.2 is sooooo old.
Get Oracle JDeveloper 9.0.4 and you'll have JDK 1.4 built in.
I don't remember if that feature was in 3.2 but since JDeveloper 9 you can switch the JDK - it is in the online help - do a search for the word JDK.

  • Saving imovie projects in itunes

I've created an imovie project from the app on my ipad2 and saved it in itunes but now my macbookpro won't open it in imovie from the itunes account. How can I use the project saved in itunes on other devices? Is there a way to burn a dvd of the project from the macbook pro?

iMovie projects are actually "packages". These packages appear as if they are one single document, but in fact they're more like a folder. If you right-click or control-click on an iMovie project, you'll see an option to "show package contents". Then, inside the project you'll see all the individual files. Would you want to browse through the individual files in that folder with Front Row? Probably not. All of the organization and editing you've done in iMovie is not reflected in the individual files there. While this organization method works for iMovie, it doesn't really help Front Row. To play music, Front Row opens iTunes in the background. To play movies/videos, Front Row plays the files through QuickTime. It might be nice to have an option to view iMovie projects by having iMovie open in the background. You might send Apple some Mac OS X feedback about that option:

  • Dealing with old iMovie Projects

I've been using iMovie in is various forms since back in the days of iMovie 2. Since that time I've put together about 40 videos, some of which I can open in iMovie '09, and some I can't. About half of my projects appear as generic icons with the suffix ".iMovieProject", while the rest are folders I can open. What I want to do is save all the videos into one standard format that will be as "future proof" as possible. So far I've been able to figure out that within the folder (or package contents) there is a folder called "Cashe"- inside that is a file called Timeline Movie.mov that appears to be the final edit of the video. If I save this file as a self-contained file, will I have the best quality video I'm going to get?
Ultimately, I'd like to discard any supporting files and folders and have a single file for these old videos.

Not a lot has changed with the different versions if iMovie (in a very basic sense). It imports from your Firewire connected camera as DV Stream and leaves them in that format until you choose a destination format (QuickTime, iDVD, etc.).
Older versions stored the files in a folder your can "see". Newer versions store the files in a new type of "folder" (called a Package file). To view the contents of a package simply "right click" (Control click) on the icon.
Depending on the older iMovie version you're were using you should be able to pull out all of your original source footage by copying the .dv files found in the above folders. The "Timeline Movie .mov" would include the source clips and any effects, transitions or edits. These "additions" found in that file can't be edited out.
    So.
If your goal is to "future proof" simply keep everything the same as the day it was created. Move all of the .dv files (your original source import) to another hard drive (properly formatted).
I would use QuickTime to open and preview the .dv files. If you have the Pro upgrade you could even export to other formats if you wished.
Since iMovie uses a very simple file naming scheme you'll need to use the Finder to rename the .dv files found in all of those folders (prior to moving them to the new hard drive). "Clip-01.dv" becomes "Dayat_theBeach.dv". When naming the files avoid any "illegal" characters. No spaces, punctuation or symbols in the file names.
Keep notes (pen and paper), take your time and trash what you really would never use prior to renaming the .dv files. Renaming the file using the Finder (prior to copying to another drive) will render the .iMovieProject useless in any version of iMovie. Since these files will be deleted anyway that's not a big deal.
Others can chime in with their strategies.
Using just the original source "clips" allows you to add some of the newer "effects and transitions" found in iMovie '09. Using the "timeline" version (saved as DV Stream) would "render" your older effects and transitions as a new "source" file.

  • Need help with lost iMovie project.

I was creating an iMovie project for school and needed to save it on a USB, so I clicked on 'Export Movie' from the 'Share' options menu in iMovie. I chose the type I wanted it saved in (viewing for computers) and then a smaller screen in iMovie popped up saying it was exporting the movie, or something like that. It took about a good 30 minutes and my project was a 7 minute movie with film clips, music, transitions, ect. I exported this project to my USB but when it finished it wasn't on there and when I finally found it on the Mac somewhere, I went to drag it into my USB but it said it was full. I then dragged the project onto my desktop and tried to open it to see if it worked. When I did the iMovie icon jumped once and stopped. I clicked on iMovie and it was still there in the projects screen. I then decided to close iMovie and open the project again from my desktop to see if it would play like a normal movie but once I clicked it the iMovie icon jumped again, opened but my project that I was trying to open was not there anymore and wouldn't open from my desktop file. I cannot open it at all and view it, it has been lost from my iMovie. Is there a way that I can get it back? Really need some help with this.

What version of iMovie are you using?

  • Making a DVD with 3 iMovie projects

I am fairly new at making a DVD. I have iMovie 9.0.4 and am on a Mac OS X version 10.6.8.
My question is: I would like to make a DVD with 3 chapters.
Chapter #1 would be an iMovie project (13 minutes)
Chapter #2 would be an iMovie project ( 8 minutes)
Chapter #3 would be an iMovie project (14 minutes)
I have all three of the movie projects completed.
At this time they are all seperate projects in iMovie.
They are the only projects that I have in imovie.
I hope to combine all three projects on one DVD and provide the DVD to classmates for a 50 year reunion.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Good or bad info. To be honest - I never use the SlideShow way - but it's well described in this forum and I tested it to be sure that it works. Problem I came up on was
    • Black framing - One must select to not scale photos in SlideShow
    • Bad sound - as I had to high level it resulted in severe distortion - Lowering it helped
So the problems can be handled - but in reality I rather do
    • One movie containing all parts and Chapter Marks set to match. This too has a built in problem as one can not set Chapter Marks in transitions or within 2 sec from them (OR IN VERY BEGINNING OF MOVIE). But there is a way around this too.
    • Export the combined movie as Full Quality QuickTime .mov
    • Import this QT.mov and now You can set the Chapter Marks (except at very beginning = no need to do this - iDVD does this by it self)
And then I add each Chapter as a free movie too
This works greatly - BUT the Con in this case is that it takes x2 space on DVD. For material less than 60 min this is no problem - but for longer movies one has to be even more elaborate to fix it.
    Good Luck !
    Yours Bengt W

  • No audio with copied imovie project

I copied my imovie project from my time machine backup to another my mac mini. I put it in the imovie projects folder and I can open it up in imovie, but the audio isn't playing. It seems to be there. I can see the green area around my video and see the names of the songs, but I can't hear anything. The volume is on. I can play songs from itunes.

I'm trying to help a teacher with an iMovie '08 problem and this seems to match the problem we are experiencing, but I don't understand how to implement the answer given. (I'm a newbie to iMovie '08 so please forgive the basic nature of this question).
This user's iMovie project is in /Users/kate/Movie/iMovie Projects.localized/Blah Project
The audio clips are showing (and some have two layered audio clips: narration and background music).
One of the audio clips does play, but I can't see any settings difference between the ones that don't play and the one that plays. I'm assuming it is because the audio files are missing (as the answer was above). But where do I find out what relative path the project is expecting? And how might I find the missing sound files? (I have no idea how this project was created or where the user might be storing things in a non-standard way).
Basically, I need more detailed instructions on how to get the filenames of the clips and the relative paths so I can copy the correct things where the need to go (if this is indeed my particular problem).
    Thanks for any assistance!

  • Can't update software for iphoto & imovie

  • Saving iMove projects for later edit by PC users

I've been converting a lot of VHS tapes to DVD for friends and family using iMovie and iDVD. Lately, I've been getting asked if I can simply hand over the digitized files to them for editing on their computers with their video editing software. What's the best way to save an iMovie project to disc for people with PCs (or Macs) so that they can edit and create their own DVD?

As Karsten said, the most foolproof method is to give them tape.
I don't know what kind of video files PC editing apps can import. Looking from the Mac side, a DV-stream (.dv) would be the most convenient format because iMovie can readily export it. The downside is that all scenes would be stuffed in a single file (unless the user exported each scene separately) and it would be up to the PC app/user to re-split the scenes into clips.
Another tempting format would be a DV-encoded .avi. But then you should remember that due to a bug in iMovie HD, it can't properly export it.
    http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/~shmhav/iMovieHD_6_bugs.html#expertsettings
So you should then use a workaround and use apps like MPEG Streamclip to export the iMovie project as a DV-AVI.
    http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/~shmhav/SVCDon_a_Macintosh.html#imovie_3rdparty
The latest MPEG Streamclip beta has a Save as... -command which AFAIK should wrap a .dv file as DV-AVI (choose AVI from the pop-up).
...but as I said, I don't know how the PC apps handle these formats.

  • Why can't update to the new iMovie and iPhoto?

I recently had to get a new hard drive in my MacBook Pro. After I installed Mavericks, I got a notification from the App Store saying there are two updates for iMovie and iPhoto. When I try to update them, I receive a message saying update unavailable with this apple ID. It goes on to say this update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or this item was refunded or cancelled. I have tried every possible Apple ID this could of been purchased with and receive the same message each time. I have no idea what to do to update these now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
Follow the directions in this support article.
    Step 2
Associate your Apple ID with your user account. Then sign in to the App Store with the same ID.
    Step 3

from the contextual menu.* A folder may open with a file named "adoption.plist" selected. If it does, move the file to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Log out, log back in, and test.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 4
Contact Mac App Store Customer Service.
