Can Quicktime videos be downloaded to DVD?

Hello All,
I have a family video that was recorded with a miniDV camcorder. There is about 10 minutes of it that I want to share with relatives. At first I was going to make several copies on miniDV tape and then I thought about using one of those USB compact flash units. Then someone told me I might be able to email my relatives a Quicktime of the 10 minutes.
Here is my questions: Can I email this DV footage as a quicktime or would it be better to up load it to something like Vimeo.com and my relatives can download it from there? Also want is the quality of a quicktime file compared to a DVD or a quicktime file compared to miniDV footage?
Thanks for all your help.
Mike

You could burn a "data" DVD using the Finder and mail that out. The QuickTime file would be about 2GB's in file size and would require them to copy it from the DVD to their machine (DVD media is too slow to play it).
You could use iMovie to create a QuickTime .mov file that could probably fit on a CD.
You could use iDVD to create a standard DVD that could be viewed on any player and TV.

I worded my question incorrectly. It isn't a DVD I'm having the problem with, it' s a Nightwish concert download form iTunes I am having the video portion of the video that plays not smoothy. Like it is moothing it short little segments, not a steady flow!

  • How to download a DVD movie into Premiere Elements 12 using my MacBook Pro so I can edit the video?

How to download a DVD movie into Premiere Elements 12 using my MacBook Pro so I can edit the video?

Please review and consider the following which works for me in Premiere Elements 12 Window 64 bit.
From what you wrote, I suspect that you have DVD-VIDEO widescreen on DVD disc. For now I will assume that you are working in a NTSC setup.
Premiere Elements DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc is characterized as interlaced video with field order lower (bottom) field first. I am not sure how your DVD-VIDEO on DVD was produced - upper (top) field first or lower (bottom) field first. We may have to apply Field Option Reverse Field Dominance at the Timeline level, but for now let us put that aside for a later time.
Insert your DVD disc in the DVD burner tray.
Open Premiere Elements to the Expert workspace and set the project preset manually for NTSC DV Widescreen. How to details for manual project preset setting are found
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE11: Accuracy of Automatic Project Preset (New Project Dialog) Setting
Then, Add Media/DVD camera or Computer Drive/Video Importer.
The video files from the DVD-VIDEO will be the larger size files and will probably start with VTS_01_1.VOB.
In the Video Importer designate the save location for video file VOB(s) and select Add to Timeline and hit Get Media
to put the files on the Timeline for editing.
If you have more than one DVD disc to "rip", please set up the Video Importer Save In location so that the save in location has a folder for each disc. The fact that all DVDs have the same VTS_01_1.VOB name etc will cause problems if you saved all to the same place as individual files.
Determine how that works for you in your Mac computer environment. We will be watching for your progress.
Others may tell you that you need to convert the VOB to another format before import into Premiere Elements. That is no necessary for Premiere Elements.
    Thank you.

  • If I download a video from my video camera to a new (current 1/12) iMac 21 inch, how can I burn it to a DVD using the computer itself. Is this possible? Do I need to buy additional software. Two salespeople at the Apple were a little confused about this.

If I download a video from my video camera to a new (current 1/12) iMac 21 inch, how can I burn it to a DVD using the computer itself. Is this possible? Do I need to buy additional software. Two salespeople at the Apple were a little confused about this. Thank you.

The DVD recorder I'm referring to is one I've use for years. It is not attached to my aging iMac in any way. I simply play the video from my camcorder (mini-dv tape based Canon HV20)  into the DVD recorder and create a DVD that can be played in any DVD player. I can only do minimum editing so what goes in is what I get. This has been fine for creating dupes of the various things I shoot.
If I buy a new iMac (21 inch), I'd like to be able to download the video to the iMac through iMovie, work with it to whatever degree I wish, and burn it to a DVD that can also be played in any DVD player -- or to use as a master to dupe copies.
What I'm understanding from you and others is that this would be possible if Apple had included iDVD in the software that comes with the iMac, or if I purchase the iLife Family Pack, or buy the correct version of Toast. I'm hoping I can persuade Apple to sell me an iMac with iDVD installed.
Essentially I want to move from a basic process of creating DVD copies to the more sophisticated process of creating one from an iMac.
Thank you again for your help and wisdom.

  • How can I export a slideshow as Quicktime video in iPhoto 9.5.1?

I want to export a slideshow I created in iPhoto 9.5.1 as a Quicktime video, but neither File > Export nor the Export button at the bottom give me a Custom Export option. I believe this was an option in older versions of iPhoto. Thanks in advance!

iPhoto 9.5.1 no longer can export as a QuickTime movie.
You will have to convert the exported video file to add a QuickTime wrapper. Try to save a QuickTime movie from QuickTime 7. (download here:  QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later.)

  • Play dvd or quicktime video spread over multiple monitors

Okay, I have a Mac Pro with a 512mb ati radeon with 2x 20" monitors hooked up to it via DVI. What I want to do is watch a DVD or quicktime video spread over both monitors. Not just full screen on one of them, but spread all the way over both so that the center of the video appears in cross of the two monitors. anyone know of anyway or software to do this?

I am not sure about software options...it might work with a hardware device like this, depending on your graphics card capability:

    from:

Now, if you strech the video across both monitors, how can you multi-task and get any work done???

  • How many Quicktime videos can be place on an IWeb page?

I'm having problems placing more than two Quicktime videos on a page at a time. Suggestions are welcome. Thanks

You really don't want more than one "movie" on a page for this reason:
Each file will download when the page is opened. This waste bandwidth (you pay for it) and wastes the time of your visitors.
One little neat way to have hundreds (thousands if you wanted) of QuickTime formatted files served from your page would be to use QuickTime Media Link files (.qtl). These are text based files that really point to another QuickTime file stored on your server.
They can be made from any app that exports to QuickTime formats.
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/.Public/Tiny_Movie.qtl
One of mine as an example.
No wasted bandwidth and extra features in your file to boot!

  • Is it possible to download a dvd movie into my itunes account so i can put it on my ipad?

Is it possible to download a dvd movie into my itunes account so i can put it on my ipad? If so, how?

Sorry, but if you're referring to commercial and hence copy-protected video DVDs, breaking the copy protection, which would be necessary to copy the videos from the DVD and convert them, is illegal in the US (and other countries) and hence Apple explicitly forbids such posts. We're therefore not allowed to discuss it here.   Some DVDs and Blu-Ray movies come with a "digital copy" that allows you to download a copy of the movie for use on computers and portable devices. You might see if any of the DVDs you have come with such a feature. Walmart/Vudu also has a service that basically gives you a digital copy of a DVD you already own. See:
    http://www.vudu.com/disc_to_digital.html
If these are home movies that you or someone has burned to DVD and hence are not copy-protected, Handbrake (freeware) is one of the more popular converters. Once converted, you just drag the movie into the iTunes window on your computer.
    Regards.

How can I download a dvd on my mac osx 10.7.4?

I am assumming these DVDs are your own personal property and are NOT rented or borrowed DVDs.
Once again, assuming that you own these DVDs, I recommend using Mac DVDRipper Pro to extract the content from your PERSONAL DVDs. I have it installed on my computer and it rips DVD's at maximum speed and uses very little processing power.
You can find more info. about Mac DVDRipper Pro at the following link...

... About converting the extracted video to a format that can be played on an iPod or iPad, I'll let someone else take a jab at that.

What version of QT are you using, do you have trouble opening any other videos? Is it just one person who sends you files you can't open? They might be using a 3rd party codec to make their videos.
If QT opens a blank file you should be able to press cmd-i and find out what type of video it is. If all else fails you can probably open it with a player called VLC, with google you'll have no problem finding it.

  • Why can't I run quicktime videos on ipad2?

why can't I run quicktime videos on ipad2?

    Eric-
QuickTime is capable of playing more video formats than the iPad.  The iPad can play M4V, MP4 and some MOV format videos.  It can not play formats like WMV and FLV.
One thing you can do is to convert the video formats on your computer.
A free program that can do it is HandBrake, which is available for both PC and Macintosh at <Download>.

    Hello Achates:
I did not read the rather long post. If you wish to reinstall OS X 10.4, use your software install DVD. Backup is essential. To minimize your risk, I would use an archive and install:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
In that way, you will have a fresh copy of OS X and your current settings will be preserved.
Incidentally, I do not agree that the printer problem is best solved by reinstalling OS X. I have had HP printers for sometime and, on one occasion, had difficulty after an upgrade. HP technical support walked me through uninstalling all traces of the HP driver and then reinstalling.

  • Is there an app to download so you can view videos requiring quick time?

Is there an app to download so you can view video requiring quick time? I'm a new apple user and have read that adobe flash is not an option. Hoping there is something out there to download

Anything that plays in QuickTime can be "shared" to iTunes and synced to videos.

  • How do I backup Quicktime videos to DVD?

For some reason, my digital camera records movies in quicktime format.  I also recently purchased an iPad and I have started taking short home videos on that as well.  I want to back these movies up onto a DVD (or by any other method that people might suggest) but for some reason I cannot burn the quicktime videos. My main reason for wanting to do this is to preserve the movies (they are movies of my kids that we'll want to watch many years from now, long after my computer and iPad are dead).  The second reason is to free up space on the iPad.
An alternative question would be:  What is the best way to backup home video to preserve them (forever) and free up space on my devices?

Buy an external hard drive and copy the files to that.  It will be cheaper in the long run than burning to DVD, a lot easier and faster to do, and optical media can go bad with time.  If this is the only copy of these movies, buy two drives because hard drives can suddenly die on you too.
Look into gettting something like the http://newertech.com/products/voyager_index.php which lets you use multiple bare drives for archiving purpurses rather than having to buy multiple enclosures.
