Can Quicktime X and 7 Pro coexist?

Can Quicktime X and 7 Pro coexist? Can you have both installed at the same time? I would guess not. Man I really had to bite my tongue on this post! Okay, just one word - hodgepodge.

Hold it right there. One issue I found that I is causing me fits right now is that even if you have both X and 7 Pro installed it still has some how corrupted some of my export settings in compressor. Specifically it appears that the FLV quicktime export component is now non-functioning and only produces .FLV's with a very bad flicker in them:

In addition and I guess on a tangent I would recommend to any pro editors to do the clean install that so many have suggested for both Snow Leopard and the New FCP Studio as I am already having round tripping issues in color, and have experienced some crashes within Final Cut 7.0
Now I want to make clear that these are my assumptions before some engineer jumps down my throat. It is entirely possible that these issues are solely mine own and are not common or widespread but from a quick review of these forums I am not sure that is the case. But having the issues I have experienced since upgrading both softwares I made the decision today to initiate a 7 pass erase of the HD and a totally new install to achieve the speed and functionality that keeps me sane and not homicidal.
From one Devoted FCP editor to any other that will listen.

  • Can the ATI and NVIDIA coexist?

    Hi everyone,
I recently installed a new ATI Radeon 5770 into my 1st gen MacPro 2006. I moved the original Nvidia GeForce 7300GT into slot #3.
I installed Snow Leopard 6.0 into a new upgraded HDD to tests out the new OS X. My other HDDs are still running Tiger and Leopard.
The problem now is that when I plug my monitor into the DVI of the ATI card, I get a black monitor. When I plug the Monitor cord into the Nvidia's DVI output, I get my normal screen.
How can I get my new ATI working?
I planned on using my old Nividia card for my 2nd monitor since the ATI is not equipped with dual DVI outputs.
    What am I missing?
    Rio

    Hi Grant,
I did notice the possibility of using adapters for the card to support multiple monitors but I don't want to spend more money byuing them. The ATI card already cost a small fortune. I also somewhat failed to notice that the ATI 5770 only supports 10.6.x and up. I have other HDDs running on Tiger and Leopard for testing and software issues. I think I will most likely return this card and opt to find an Nvidia GeForce 8800GT wich may solve all my "issues". We'll what happens.
    Regardless, thanks for "chiming" in.

  • Can Snow Leopard and Leopard coexist on one machine?

I guess the question is does Snow Leopard update the firmware of exiting machines or is the firmware updated in the new machines so they cannot support Leopard or even Tiger to run on them?
Ideally I would like to install a second bootable hard drive with Leopard so we can run some apps that are not SL ready.
So, can I do that on a machine that already runs Snow Leopard?
Any ideas and suggestions are highly appreciated,
    thanks,
    NE

It all depends on the build date of the machine. It is unsupported to install any version of Mac OS X on any Mac older than the version it shipped with. So a Mac that came with Snow Leopard installed can't reliably made to run Leopard or Tiger. (It might work, but you will almost certainly encounter issues.)
Snow Leopard itself, however, does not update a machine's firmware when it is installed. Installing Snow Leopard on a machine does not preclude also running an older OS from time to time, as long as the machine was originally designed to run that OS at one point.

Hello everybody. I am trying to reinstall my Quicktime 7 Pro after having my MacBook OSX 10.5.8 cleaned out following a hacking. I have Quicktime player and I reregistered with the purchased registration code for Quicktime 7 pro. It seems to be successfully registered with "Quicktime 7 Pro" appearing under the inserted registration code but it is not showing in Applications folder and I do not know how to access it or what to do. Thanks for reading this. I hope you can help me. Aidan from Dublin, Ireland.

Inapplicable advice removed; misread the OS version.

  • HT2240 CAN I EDIT AND TAKE PIECES OF THE VIDEO OUT OF THE VIDEO WITH QUICKTIME?

I want to edit a video and take out portions I do not want there for a video post. How do I edit out (trim) out bits I do not want and then save the new video?

These steps assume you've got the Pro version of QuickTime Player 7 for Windows:
Open the file you wish to edit and move the playhead (you can slide it and use the right/left arrow keys to adjust) to the first frame of the video you want to remove.
Use the letter i key to create an "in point". You'll see a small marker at the bottom of the timeline noting your place in the file.
Adjust the playhead to the last frame you wish to edit and use the letter o key to set an "out point". You'll see another marker and the edit area is highlighted in the timeline. This is known as a "Selection".
From the Edit menu you can "Cut" or "Delete" this selection.
Repeat those steps until you've removed what you want from the original file.
File menu and choose "Save As". Pick a save location and give the file a new (different) name.
Done. Your original file is left untouched by those edits.

  • Can Quicktime Pro convert CamStudio video into iMovie?

    Dear All
I use CamStudio to record some Windows application presentations. I heard that QuickTime Pro gives the ability to convert any playable movie to be converted to formats that iMovie accepts. I am pondering if I should by QuickTime pro or not. Could you please give me some advice? Here are my questions.
I am wondering if anyone has tried to import the video recorded using CamStudio to QuickTime Pro and convert to a format that iMovie can accept and edit?
Another question would be, is there any formatting limitation iMovie possesses which limits the merger of two videos from two sources?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

Here's the summary of what I did :
    Downloaded [CamStudio|http://camstudio.org>
Openen VirtualBox on my Mac and installed Camstudio in Win XP.
    Made a screenmovie.
    Saved it to the Mac.
Opened it in QT Pro on the Mac.
Exported it to QuickTime (.mov) and MPEG-4 (.mp4).
    Opened both in iMovie.
    Made movie with both clips.
    Exported it to .m4v.
    So it is possible.
    And here's the movie : [CamStudio|http://www.wyodor.net/_Discussions/CamStudio.html]

  • Can Quicktime Pro 6 be used with Quicktime 7 basic?

If I install Quicktime 7, will I retain Quicktime 6 Pro video export abilities if I open a Quicktime 6 Pro Movie Player app? Will a Quicktime 6 application even open under Quicktime 7. Will Quicktime 7 basic hijack my Quicktime 6 Pro app and force it to act like basic? I need to retain export ability to MPEG-4 and can't get 7 Pro for a little while yet.
Should I wait, or do I risk it? Has anyone tried. I can't loose my export ability.

    Cool! Boy, am I old.
    Glad to help you.
Sometimes software developers get wrapped up in new features and forget about us longtime users.
Keeping both versions (at least at this time) is critical to most of my workflow.
So many features (Color wheel for transparency settings, editing MIDI Instruments or setting image options in sprites) are difficult, or impossible, using QT 7.
Having both apps, and their special menus, allows me to experiment and keep some of the older editing features.
Apple has made QuickTime a showcase of its OS. It's used from iTunes (Windows and Mac's) to basic features such as how a window is drawn and rendered.
And they've maintained "backward" compatibility. My old (1998) files still work as intended either on the Web or locally.
The rewritten code of QT 7 is amazing!
Multiple exports (you had to wait for each to finish in 6.5) to various formats!

Thanks for your reply. This video was recorded by my own professional camera, Sony PMW EX 3, two years back. But I am neither a professional cameraman nor an editor. I am just like a beginner in both.  I didnt have space in my storage device, so I just copied all my clips, thinking I can edit it latter, without recompressing or editing or whatever I should have done it at that point of time.  Now I need to edit it and use it in my profession. I am very upset.  Please help me in going step by step to get it in FCP X for editing.  Also I would like to know, do I need to buy the Compressor 4 for any reason. I dont mind in buying, if you think it is going to be useful for some reason.  Thank you very much in anticipation for any kind of proper guidance.

  • Problems with QuickTime 7.1.2 update and Pro Tools

Having issues wiht the new QuickTime update and my studio recording software. Is there anyway to backout of update? Pro Tools is telling me that this is an error from Apple with the newest update. My thought this related to have an old MAC e.i. not Intel and Apple is not taking care of there older users. A lot of my music software is not working correctly now. What can I do? Please help..

Often in upgrading the OS, QT or FCP for some odd reason QT will get knocked slightly off kilter. Before doing the step back to 6.5.2, try a complete QT reinstall.
    This is how:
Go to /library/receipts and delete any files that say Quicktime followed by a number e.g. Quicktime703.pkg
Go to the Apple quicktime site and download the appropriate version of Quicktime to your hard drive.
    Run the Quicktime installer.
Repair Disk Permissions for your System Disk (Disk Utility > Select the system disk > Repair Disk Permissions)
    Reboot
FWIW, FCP4.5 can run without issue under 10.4.x and QT7, but it is VERY stable under 10.3.9 and QT6.5.2.
    Good luck.

  • Can Quicktime Pro convert  Flip MinoHD video for Adobe Premiere 2.0

The Flip MinoHD shoots pretty good video that I want to edit in Adobe Premiere 2.0. The problem is that the Flip HD files are in a .mp4 format that Premiere doesn't recognize.
Can Quicktime Pro convert the Flip .mp4 files into
    1) .avi files 720x480 with the DV standard that Adobe Premiere 2.0 can edit? I believe this type of file is a "type 2 avi".
    2) a type of HD file that Adobe Premiere 2.0 can edit (when editing HD video - mostly from my sony HD camcorder whose files work fine with Premiere.)?

If QT Player can open those files, it should be able to export them into a format Premiere can work with. You can see the export formats QuickTime supports here:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/pro/specs.html
Note that AVI is a container format. QT, I believe, exports AVI using the Cinepak codec by default, so make sure Premiere supports that or select a different format (DV Stream, perhaps).
Pro adds nothing in the way of playback capabilities, so try the free QuickTime and see if it can open and play those files. If it can't, then don't waste your money on a QuickTime Pro key.

  • Quicktime X and Quicktime Pro

Ok before I had installed Snow Leopard I had quicktime pro. Now that I installed the program I can no longer view trailers on the Apple Website or do anything I could do with pro. I can not even purchase pro for X apparently now. What Can be done about this? or when will pro be available. Apples website as well as all other websites do not appear to support Quicktime X at all at this time, so I would really like a solution ASAP.
I use Quicktime Pro daily and now that I am without it again this is really not the time for me to be without it. This problem needs to be resolved immediately.
Can anyone in Genius bar or other apple techs look into this?

I just talked to techs at Apple and here is the skinny on Quicktime Pro: As far as the normal user is concerned, Quicktime Player 7 and Quicktime X have two things in common. They are both named Quicktime and they both play .mov files. Quicktime Player 7 can be upgraded to Pro and then can edit and export movies. Quicktime X, as of Sep 29, 2009 can not be upgraded to Pro. It can only Trim files and play them. It's just a player.
If you have installed Quicktime X and Quicktime 7 has disappeared, you may find Quicktime 7 in the utilities folder OR on your Snow Leopard install disc. You might want to also install Rosetta from that disc so you can use older apps like Appleworks 6.
If you are adventurous and would like to edit more file formats, you can get a free download called "Perian - the Swiss Army knife for Quicktime." Of course, you are on your own with this app. Use all precautions for unknown software. I downloaded Perian and can now play .flv files on Quicktime.

  • Can Quicktime Pro convert to .wmv?

That's pretty much it in a nutshell!
I have made some movies through iMovie, but need to have them in Windows Media Viewer format as well for use on our website, can Quicktime Pro do this?
Or can I do this through iMovie?
Most of the reviews on the Quicktime Pro website are against the software, but go on about iPods more than anything.
    Thanks all.

There is also Popwire's $39 WMV-9 Export Component.

Flip4Mac offers more export options at a higher price however Flip4Mac is also suffering from problems due to its use of the eSellerate authorization system. If you have any other software that uses eSellerate, consider going with Popwire's software instead (which does not use eSellerate.)
Other options are available as stand-alone programs such as Cleaner 6

    And Compression Master

    Hi,
You have not specified which version of Premiere Pro was given to you. If you don't have the disc (which i suppose you don't have) you will have to download it online.
As far as your registration is concerned, for Premiere Pro CS6 or earlier you will have to reach Adobe chat support for further help: http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html
For Premiere Pro CC and later, you will not have much problems reactivating it.
    Thanks,

  • Can I authorize Logic Pro on both my Laptop and Desktop Mac

I use my Macbook Pro for mobile recording using Logic Pro and I was wondering if I can authorize my Mac Pro desktop to use Logic Pro too? I purchased Logic Pro from the iTune store, so I don't have disks to install from.  Using the Desktop at my home studio is much more convenient then using the laptop.

Yes, just log into the mac store and it should appear under the Purchases tab and you can download it again.
