Can receive but not send messages
Can anyone help me? My imessage for Mac was working great yesterday then all the sudden I can't send messages. I tried sending messages to someone's email account and to a phone number. I am logged in with my Apple ID and also with my email address through AIM. However, I can get messages, but when I send, I get that red exclamation mark. So I click on it to resend and it still won't send.
I've tried restarting iMessage, my computer, changing my passwords, closing the conversation... not sure what else to try. I'm running OSX 10.8.3.
Any suggestions?!
hi,
Based on the email , the three other threads that have other bits of info in them I would also try a PRAM reset.
Shut down the computer.
Restart it holding down Apple/CMD ( or ⌘)+ALT( ⌥)+P+R Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.

Can receive but not send messages using Entourage 2008
For years I have used Entourage for Mac and it has survived every upgrade and switch to iCloud. Until this week. I did nothing at all to change anything, and all of a sudden, my emails from Entourage are not going out. What happened? How can I fix it?
MacBookPro (10.7.5), Entourage 2008 (13.1.6)
Error message:
The server for account "iCloud" returned the error "5.7.8 Bad username or password (Authentication failed)." etc.
My account settings:
Account ID: [my mac.com email address]
IMAP server: imap.mail.me.com
Password: [my iCloud password]
SSL required: YES
Port: 993
For sending:
Port: 587Having exact same issue with Outlook. Checked my Mac Mail software too and both are not able to connect. This all occurred after last weeks update.
Making me crazy.
Quadruple checked settings and have been on the phone with my ISP twice. All other accounts set up with SSL etc. work fine - gmail, hotmail and personal websites. This leads me to believe this is an Apple issue not TWC (my ISP).
I can get into iCloud with no problem and am able to send messages via my iPhone and iPad.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks. -
Anyone experiencing problems sending mail using Apple Mail viaTalkTalk - can receive but not send - was ok up until pm 24/08/12 - have recently loaded Mountain Lion patch could this be the problem?

"I managed to solve the problem. Under smtp settings (mail preferences/accounts/edit smtp) I set the outgoing port to 25 (as recommended by Talktalk), no authentication (set to none) and unchecked SSL. I found that until I set the port to 25 and authentication to none I was unable to uncheck SSL. One I had done this I was able to send from my main email and other email adddresses set up under my account."
Superb advice R&W! My email sending block using TalkTalk started 2 months ago using Snow Leopard, continued when I upgraded to 10.8.2, and has been persistent on my wife's new iPad (IOS 6.1). Implementing your wise words has fixed all that, and now enables me to call her on FaceTime — previously only she could call me. Thank you so much; this will save hours of further fruitless searching and phoning.
Please remember that your email is now insecure, if you wish to have a secure connection SSL must be on and port 25 should be avoided. -
I think Firefox may have installed a firewall that is interfering with my email program - I can receive but not send mail.

I can't send emails via mail. I can receive but not send. I have set up gmail on mail. Any ideas? No problems with the set up previously to this.
Go to Mail Preferences- Accounts and confirm you are providing Gmail what they require to send and receive mail. And DON'T specify Secure Socket Layer. Some mail accts don't like SSL
Good Luck to you. -
I can receive but not send emails with my skynet account - what am I doing wrong ?
I can receive but not send emails with my skynet account - what am I doing wrong ?
I have no problems with my Yahoo account but I can not send emails with my skynet account.
Actually in iPhone :
Outgoing Mail Server > SMTP "relay.skynet.be"
Primary server > Not Configured > Off
Thank you ...When you set them up, did you set up both the incoming and outgoing email servers separately, and did you enter the correct SMTP server name, and enter your userid and password even though it says "optional"?
Something else to try, if you haven't, is delete the accounts, connect the iPhone to iTunes, on the Info tab check the box to sync mail server settings, then sync. This should duplicate the settings from your computer to your iPhone. -
I can receive, but not send emails on iPad. All settings checked several times and with internet provider. imap settings confirmed as ok. Account deleted and set up under guidance of service provider several times - problem not solved - help!!

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

I suspect a error in the settings for the outgoing mail server. -

Icloud email can receive but not send on PC?
With icloud emails on my iphone I can receive and send icloud emails. On my PC I can receive but not always send. When I try to send an icloud email I get this message: "This message cannot be sent at this time"
Thanks,
FrankI ran into this problem myself while connected via WI-FI last night and it was due to port 25 being blocked by my ISP. I recommend that you set up your Yahoo! e-mail account within iPhone. Go to Settings | Mail | Add Account... Yahoo will be the top choice.
If you want to continue to use Yahoo via POP3/SMTP, then look at this link:

Read this if you can receive, but not send email
If you can receive, but cannot send email on your iPhone, try the following:
Add your outgoing Server Port Number to your "Outgoing Mail Server Name"
Example: smtp.example.com:XXXX
where XXXX is your Outgoing Server Port Number ( eg. 25 )
For specifics on how to do this, read on.
From the Home Screen, select:
Settings
*Mail,Contacts ...*
your email Account ex: [email protected]
Scroll down to Outgoing Mail Server
Then select your outgoing mail server *SMTP smtp.example.com*
Select Primary Server smtp.example.com
Host Name change smtp.example.com to smtp.example.com:XXXX
where XXXX is your Outgoing Server Port Number.
This worked great, but unfortunately this helpful hint could not be found on the Apple support forum ... until now
Hope this helps! This worked for me too! (iPhone 3G 2.02). Apple's once-over-lightly help with this issue is really lame. I thought better of Apple but they are turning into just another Dell or Microsoft.

Why can I receive but not send messages through Mail?
I recently installed a wireless router (linksys). I can send mail at the local coffee shop, yet here at home I can't. I know it's something very simple, but I'm giving up...and asking for help in fear of tweaking the settings beyond my knowledge. I get a popup that tells me I can't use the listed server for outgoing mail. I have a couple choices...1) lynksys 2)stmp.mac.com:tugboater.
I wish I could get it set up...Its annoying to have to use mt yahoo address.
Heelllppp!Help! I have read through this string, but not found an answer. I too, can receive emails but not send them. The problem started last week - I've been successfully using my mail account for 2 years and then last week, stuff I send just disappears - no error messages. I didn't change any settings or do any updates. All sent messages show in my "sent" folder, as well. I have tried everything, including restoring my hard drive from a backup copy made before I was having difficulty.
I used suggestions in the online help, including using the "ping" function to see if I was communicating with my outgoing mail server. Trying to ping mail.mac.com I get the error message:
"PING mail.mac.com (17.250.248.152): 56 data bytes
--- mail.mac.com ping statistics ---
10 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss
I am using mail and .mac mail through a cable DSL line and Airport wireless connection.
I tried changing my outgoing port to 110 and to 25 without help.
Any thoughts? -
Because of buyout, had to switch over from Adelphia to Comcast this weekend. With the help of Comcast, reset Mac mail on both G4 and G3 running OS 10.4.9. Got everything finally working Sunday, but today, G4 will not send.
Error: "Message could not be delivered, will remain in Outbox until it can. Connection to server "smtp.comcast.net" on port 110 timed out." Any ideas?
G4 Mac OS X (10.4.9)
G4 Mac OS X (10.4.9)Hi,
I, too, got caught up in this Comcast busines. When I reset my Mail preferences per their instructions, I found that I could receive e-mail but not send it. After spending almost an hour with TWO of their so-called technical people, I was told that mine was an OEM problem and there was nothing else that Comcast could do for me.
YET, by changing the server port from Comcast's recommended 587 setting back to 25 (which it had been when I was with Time-Warner), I could then send e-mails!
Relieved but irritated,

Can receive, but not send emails
I've been trying to set up a new mail account on Apple Mail for the past several days. Thus far, I'm able to receive emails with the account, but not send. I've contacted my internet provider to confirm that my settings are correct, and they are, but it's still not working. They said I need to contact Apple.
He are my specifics:
MAC OS 10.5, Apple Mail, Time Warner Road Runner: Eastern North Carolina.
They have recommended: stmp-server.ec.rr.com, alternate port setting: 25. No SSL, and no authentication.
I have tried a few other settings too... the standard ports setting, alternate port setting: 587, SSL selected, and my user name and password for authentication.
Can someone help me?
Thanks in advance!I've had the same issue setting up my Time Warner Road Runner email account on a new iMac OS 10.5.5, so I can totally relate to your problem.
At first I could receive messages, but couldn't send. After multiple attempts to fix the settings, I finally found the right combination to be able to send:
1) Open the Mac Mail application
2) Click onto "Mail" in the top bar next to the apple symbol and click onto "Accounts"
3) Look down on the bottom of that window for the "Outgoing Mail Server" drop-down window, and click the drop-down window and select "Edit Server List"
4) Make sure that the server listed in the top of the next screen says:
smtp-server.ec.rr.com
5) Look down below in the same screen and click onto "Advanced"
6) Make sure the server port is 25 (not 587)
7) Also make sure that "Use Secure Socket Layers (SSL) is NOT CHECKED in the check box.
8) Make sure that the drop-down window below the server port info marked as "Authentication" is showing "none"
9) Click "OK"
10) Close out the Accounts window, so that it asks you to Save new settings. Be sure to hit "Save"
11) Close out of the Mac Mail program
12) Re-Open Mac Mail program and test it out by sending yourself.
13) You should see that dummy message sent out, and then received into your Inbox.
Hope this helps. -
