Just a correction of Radiation Mac message:
You apparently Do have an Incoming POP or IMAP server set up (SMTP being only to send emails, not to receive).
Can you describe the settings you entered?
    - What type of mail account (Gmail, Yahoo, Pop, ...)
    - Are all the info properly filled (you can share them, but make sure to remove email/login/password for security)
    - Is your email provider requiring a secure connection to the SMTP? Did you configure it properly?

  • We had a contaminated email and now we cannot send emails . our service provider thinks problem in 'mail' settings but did not want to get into that area. Can you advise how we look into this

we had a contaminated email and now we cannot send emails.  Our service provider advises that 'Mail' settings may be compromised.  but were not willing to get into resetting.   How can this be fixed ?

Not exactly sure what you mean by contaminated, but there is currently no known e-mail that could impact the Apple Mail application as you have described.
Without knowing who your e-mail provider is and what type of account (IMAP or POP3) we can't advise you as to what those settings might be.
One way to fix it would be to delete the account from Apple Mail Preferences->Accounts and add it back.

    All resolved at last
    Deleted the SMTP setting
Recreated the SMTP using the same settings
    Able to send emails now
No logic - as usual - just a bug!

Here is a good place to start...

You will want to focus on your outgoing server / domain settings, as long as your incoming mail is still functioning properly.

  • E71 can receive, but cannot send email to POP mail...

I have an E71-1. I am in the UK and on '3'. Firmware version is 100.07.76  My problem is I cannot send email to my POP server. It goes to the Outbox then is reported as Queued. Trying to force a send does not have any effect. It would send emails until a few weeks ago.
I have re-set up the server information correctly in the 'phone. The server is sending and receiving emails correctly from Outlook. The E71 receives emails normally.
I have set up another POP account on a different domain on the 'phone and I have the same problem (but it uses the same server). Any help would be appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

ManCity69 does not have my problem, therefore I appreciate his attempt to help but his solution will not work for me. It is frustrating that I cannot make it work as he has. I want to use my own SMTP server but I can't. I believe my solution is the definitive one because it should work for everyone.
For anyone who has my problem, my posted solution should work. And I have looked at the emails I am sending using other email clients, and they are not arriving from "[email protected]', the 'From' and 'Reply To' are my normal email address, perhaps it is getting these from the pop3 settings, I don't know.
And as we are blundering around in the dark here trying to solve our own problems instead of getting high quality technical support from 3, we will probably never know.

  • I had a power failure 2 days ago, have power now, but cannot send email from my iPad. Everything was fine before that. The box says cannot send mail, the user name or password for Gmail is incorrect. I haven't changed anything. I need help. Thanks

    Hi
I had a power failure 2 days ago, my computer is running again, but now I cannot send email from my iPad using Cox or my gmail account. I am receiving mail in my Cox account but not my gmail account. It was working fine until the power failure. It keeps telling me, the user name or password for Gmail is incorrect. I have not changed anything. I don't know what is wrong. Can anyone help me? Thanks

I agree, unplug and replug your router, then reset your iPad by holding down the sleep and home buttons, ignore the red power down slider, and wait til you see the silver apple. let it reboot and then try your connection.
Chances are rebooting the router will help. You may also need to talk to cox. They may need to reset something on their end.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Gmail on iPhone4: can receive email but cannot send email

I am using a brand new iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0.1. I can receive emails from Gmail without any problems, but when trying to send emails I get the error message "the connection to the outgoing server 'smtp.gmail.com' failed. Additional outgoing mail servers can be configured in settings..."
After spending many (!!!) hours on this, I suspect it comes down to one setting in "mail, contacts, calendar", then gmail account information > outgoing mail server > smto.gmail.com; authentication is preset on "MD5 Challenge". This text is grey and cannot be altered. I assume the setting must be "password" instead, but how the *** can I change this?
    Desperate. Please enlighten me!
    Merry Christmas!

I solved my problem.  Thanks razmee209 for your response.

  • Mail receives from hotmail but wont send

    Hi,
I use Mail to send and receive emails from my Hotmail account; I have been using it this way since having a Mac. A few weeks ago mail stopped sending my emails, but continues to receive mail from my Hotmail account. The last time I managed to send an email from Mail through Hotmail was 13th Dec.
A few days prior to this I had some minor sending issues, I would receive a pop up that said, "Cannot send message using the server msn.services.com", but I kept clicking the "use selected server" button, and, after a few attempts it would send.
Now, however, it will not go no matter what.
I have read every thread relating to Mail, and sending issues, I have tried EVERY SINGLE piece of advice so far, including changing port numbers, repairing permissions, resetting Mail, trying different outgoing server/ port number combinations.
I absolutely despise Microsoft to the point of hating having to logon on to my Hotmail account, hence the reason for using Mail. Unfortunately a friend set up this email account for me several years ago, and it would be too much hassle to change it now.
I work in Iraq, so I have no idea who the ISP is, however according to the IT Tech, we have a 2mb link which is shared with a company in Italy! Something I have never heard of before. As I said above Mail was sending and receiving with no problems even with this "shared" connection.
    Please can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance!

I am having the same problem with a POP mail account and no matter what I do even a re-install the problem is still there.
The thing is it's my girlfriends mail on my mac as a seperate user. I have a simular account on the same machine (as in both eircom.net accounts and the settings are exactly the same. She can send to another eircom account but not to another e-mail address ie hotmail ,gmail..well no other account unless it ends in eircom.net.
    She is receiving mail.
There are no Admin restrictions as I am the admin and have checked more than a few times.
Any help here to would be appreciated..it does sound like the same problem.

  • Federated user can log into mailbox, but cannot send email

Hello. Of several dozen federated users with mailboxes in Exchange Online, I have one user who suddenly cannot send mail from his own mailbox, always receiving a, "you do not have the required permission to send from this mailbox." He used to be
able to send, and I've reviewed and compared his mailbox properties and mailbox permissions with other federated users, and I can find nothing to explain these errors. The "NT Authority\Self" identity is listed in the Send-As permission, just as
it is on every other user's mailbox. I even tried explicitly adding the user's account to the Send-As permissions, which made no difference, so I removed it again.
As I said, the user can successfully log into his mailbox and can read his mail, but all attempts to send anything out fail with the same error. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mike

Turns out the problem was caused by two things:
    1) the user has a K2 (kiosk) license
    2) in Settings, the user checked the box to "always show the From field"
Apparently, despite the fact that this user had access to no mailboxes other than his own, when you turn on the From field, Exchange apparently does some sort of check for Send on Behalf of rights whenever the user hits Send, even on his own mailbox, and
the Kiosk license excludes the ability to Send on Behalf Of any mailbox.
The bottom line is that, unchecking the "always show From field" checkbox resolved the issue and allowed the user to again send mail.
I'm a bit annoyed by this. If the Kiosk licenses limits a feature like this, then it should remove or deactivate the GUI element, to prevent it from causing this sort of error from occurring.
