Can Receive Mail, but Cannot Transmit

Dear Fellow Leopard Users,
So far, Leopard has cost me all my stored messages and considerable blood-pressure points. Currently, after lots of calls to Apple Support, I can at least receive mail. I cannot transmit messages. The little twirl simply keeps twirling until the program says it cannot send, which fact I had already realized. You will only be able to receive this message because I am using this message-form, and not regular Apple Mail.
My ISP's receiving-port is 110, and its transmitting-port seems to be 465.
Please tell me how I can begin to send messages.
Thanks a lot.
Sincerely,
Gordon F. Corbett

  • HT4199 On my iPad I can receive mail but cannot forward to anyone.

I can receive mail but cannot send any.

    go to
Settings > Mail > your account > Outgoing Mail Server > Primary Server > Password
and put your password in here.
If this does not immediately solve your problem, then check out the other outgoing settings against what your email service provider requires.

  • I can receive mail but cannot answer or forward or do anything with the body  of the message including scroll through it.

My mail program has stopped  working. I can receive emails but cannot do anything with the message, scroll through, answer or create a new message to be sent.

Quit the mail app completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Or .... Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • I can log on icloud on pc but when i enter password on my ipad mini first gen with ios8 it tells me wrong password. and i can receive mail but cannot send any mail via icloud, gmail, yahoo never had to set this up with ios7. how do i resolve this?

I updated my ipad mini first gen 32gig (4.3gig free) to run ios8 8.0(12A365) and i have a problem sending emails. i can receive mail but when i send it fails. my dropbox works fine, safari, and other apps work fine on the internet just the receiving of mail. Do i need to add a new outgoing server, though i dont remeber having to do this when i updated to ios7. how do i resolve this?

Here's a troubleshooting article from Apple:  iOS: Troubleshooting Mail
It doesn't seem to cover your specific issue, but have you tried using a different network (either a different wi-fi network, or switching from wi-fi to cellular or vice-versa if you have a wi-fi+cellular iPad)?
For GMail, iCloud and Yahoo, copies of messages are stored on their respective servers, so you could try deleting the account on your iPad, then re-adding each account one at a time to see if that resolves the issue.

  • Can Receive Mails but cannot Send

Hello, I've been using Mail without hassle for the past week, but suddenly one day it stopped working. I can receive Mails from all my accounts (Gmail,.Mac, etc) but when I try to send one, It wont let me. I've tried sending mails with my .mac account, my gmail account, my yahoo account an so on.
It used to work, So I dont believe I configured it wrong. Maybe it has to do with some Security Update?
Also, I tried using another wireless network and unexpectedly it worked fine.
Tried Forwartding Port 25 on my router, and there werent any results
Im still new in this whole Mac Scene, so, Could you help me?.
    Thanks for Your Time.

I agree. I was having a problem sending e-mail (not receiving). I was on the phone with two Time Warner (Road Runner) techs and they finally told me to contact Apple as it was their issue.
A friend came to our house while I wasn't home and configured it for me. My outgoing smtp server kept coming up (offline). I don't know how he did it, but it worked and now I can send e-mails.
Keep trying or find a friend who has a Mac! When I find out how my friend made it work I will let you know...it has something to do with authentication (password).
I only wish the techs at Time Warner knew what they were doing or I wouldn't have had to deal without being able to send e-mail for so long...
    Happy New Year!!!

    Any help will be appreciated.

Hope you have your install discs as you will need them, if you do no problems. If not you will have to call Aple to get replacements, as the discs are machine build depedent.

  • TS3899 I can receive mail but cannot send?  All help appreciated!

How to get  my phone to send messages?  It receives but does not send.

Perhaps more info will help.  My iPhone belongs to my employer and all mail goes through their servers.  All functions, including this one, have worked for the 2 years I have been employed there....until this morning.  Suddenly, emails do not get sent.  They actually disappear.  They are not in the sent folder or in the Drafts folder or in the Outbox!   All functions work fine on my laptop.
    Thanks!

  • I can receive mail but cannot send

Email is setup and receiving is no problem but emails will not send and remain in outbox

Outgoing email goes through an SMTP server.  So a problem with outgoing email may be caused by your SMTP server settings.  In order to provide help, it is necessary to know which email provider you are using.  If you provide this information, someone in this forum will probably have experience with the same provider and will be able to give you help in setting your account up.  For example, some email providers require you to be connected to their network to be able to use their SMTP servers.  Road Runner used to be this way, but now has a mobile SMTP server mobile users can use.

  • I can Receive mail but cannot send-- can anyone help??

    Hi everyone,
I just got my iPhone and I was setting up my email account which is AIM. It works perfectly except for one problem. When I try to send an email (and I have tried to multiple people), a message pops up that says:
    Cannot Send Mail
    The sender address was invalid.
It says this any messages I try to send. Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks!!

    Hey arden1985,
If you haven't already, try to remove the account and add it again.
This article will provide some general tips that may resolve the issue.

  • Can receive mail but not send mail

Hey, I can receive mail but cannot send mail. I previously had bellsouth mail and it worked fine, now I have a Charter.net account and I get a pop up every time I try to send mail saying, Mail couldn't be sent using the POP account Charter.net. I would really appreciate any help that some of you Mac experts could give me. It'd be nice to be able to send e-mail without having to go to the Charter website!
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Lee

    Ernie,
Is there any chance that this inability to SEND could be fixed by the removal of MessageRules.plist, MessageRules.plist.backup, MessageSorting.plist and MessageSorting.plist.backup that I have seen in other threads on Mail problems? I'm not having a complete failure of Mail, but I can't send mail (only receive).
I have contacted both my ISP (ATT) and my "second party" mail host (Godaddy.com) and all my settings are correct and things should, in theory, work fine -- but they don't!

Problem: Cannot send mail unless Password is transmitted insecurely & Port is set to 587.. Can receive mail but can't send Code 501..
Need help with T-bird.. My OS is Win XP-64..Have been using Mozilla for about 10 years with little or no problems.. This happened when I upgraded to 3.17.. Spent hours on T-Bird diagnostics web site.. Called Comcast & talked to a net tech.. he ran some tests on his end & had me log into my Comcast e-mail account & all worked well,, so he concluded the problem was in T-Bird.. He had me change my port to 587 & disable connection security & authentication to none & I was able to send mail.. That was all he could do.. Comcast was working.. the problem is in T-Bird.. Can any one help with this problem.. I don't want to send mail with my password transmitted insecurely..
    Thanks

It was not intended to be "snide". You said two separate things that at face value would be out of the ordinary.
I considered if it might be a typo for 31.7. Since 31.5 is the current formal release, I would have to thank you for volunteering to test a pre-release beta version. If it was truly 3.1.7 then it would appear that you have chosen, or have become stuck with a somewhat ancient version. In either case it's harder to reach out to you with any meaningful comments or advice. However I do watch various other sites and newsgroups and I don't see a clamour of distressed users, so it seems fair to suppose that this feature isn't actually broken in 31.7.
And you said XP 64. XP is obsolete and no longer supported and if there is a 64-bit version, then again you have set yourself apart from the mainstream.
I had a look at the comcast site and found some puzzling recommendations. Some users come here asking how to set up a secured connection in Thunderbird when it isn't offered by the server. Comcast are different, in that they mention the ports 143 and 587, and also 993 and 465. So far so good, in that security is actually on offer, but they also suggest that you enable SSL, regardless of which port is being used. It would be unusual and unconventional to offer TLS or SSL on ports 143 and 587. STARTTLS would be more credible on these ports.
Have you tried IMAP on 993 and SMTP on 465? SMTP on 587 with SSL, or TLS, is not impossible, but is improbable.
