Can receive mail. Cannot send mail. Help me!

On my iPad, I can receive mail, but not send. All was working fine until yesterday, Mon Jan7th.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

I would double check your settings and port numbers.
Incoming Mail (pop3) server mailhost.zen.co.uk and port for Incoming mail (POP3) is 995
Outgoing Mail (smtp) server mailhost.zen.co.uk and port for Outgoing mail (SMTP) is 587 
Also make sure under SMTP that the outgoing server requires as secure connection (SSL) box is checked as well as the incoming POP3 (SSL) box.
Can you say if this is a recent issue or one that has been there since setup?

Most email providers use separate servers for incoming (POP3 generally) and outgoing (SMTP generally) mail.
Chances are you don't have the SMTP server info. Google for the smtp server of your ISP/region.
Another possibility is that your ISP blocks SMTP sending if you are not at home, or outside their network (say on wifi somewhere else). This is done to prevent spamming by people that hack email address passwords.

TS3276 Mail is not working. Cannot open new e-mail; cannot send mail. Connection doctor shows green dot in status column. I can't delete old e-mails to free up space.

E71 can receive, but cannot send email to POP mail...

I have an E71-1. I am in the UK and on '3'. Firmware version is 100.07.76 My problem is I cannot send email to my POP server. It goes to the Outbox then is reported as Queued. Trying to force a send does not have any effect. It would send emails until a few weeks ago.
I have re-set up the server information correctly in the 'phone. The server is sending and receiving emails correctly from Outlook. The E71 receives emails normally.
I have set up another POP account on a different domain on the 'phone and I have the same problem (but it uses the same server). Any help would be appreciated.

ManCity69 does not have my problem, therefore I appreciate his attempt to help but his solution will not work for me. It is frustrating that I cannot make it work as he has. I want to use my own SMTP server but I can't. I believe my solution is the definitive one because it should work for everyone.
For anyone who has my problem, my posted solution should work. And I have looked at the emails I am sending using other email clients, and they are not arriving from "[email protected]', the 'From' and 'Reply To' are my normal email address, perhaps it is getting these from the pop3 settings, I don't know.
And as we are blundering around in the dark here trying to solve our own problems instead of getting high quality technical support from 3, we will probably never know.

I can receive but cannot send e-mails!

I have a gmail account; I can read the incoming mails but cannot send outgoing mails. I get the following error message:
The SMTP server “smtp.gmail.com” rejected the password for user “XYZ"
XYZ = my name.
The password is correct because I can access my gmail account by using the relevant website.

In your server setytings do you have XYZ or [email protected] as the User Name? What Authentication: do you have?

Am traveling; can receive but not send Mail

We just came to Peru, and have an apartment here with a wireless connection in it, provided by a cable company. I use Verizon as my server, sending and receiving mail with the Mail program. I've traveled to several countries and have never had any trouble sending or receiving mail. But I can't send mail here, and wonder if I need to put something different in the outgoing mail settings of Mail. Or do you think this has something to do with my having installed Snow Leopard? Don't know much about this, but would appreciate some help.

You may want to set your email to send using that company's outgoing mail server - to get the connection info you need, contact them for the details, ask the neighbor next door or the computer shop across the street and/or check on the internet using Google to see what others may have to say about the same situation in your location.
As an example, if the local service provider name is 'PeruISP', you would search Google for:
Peru ISP outgoing email setting (or) Peru ISP sending email
....you get the idea.
The point is that Verizon clearly isn't working there for you, so you need to know the correct outgoing email server name etc. before you can get your email going again.

After OS upgrate, my Mail (Version 4.3) can receive -but not send mail !?

I just upgraded my I Mac to OS X 10.6. Everything is working well except my MAIL Version 4.3. I’m able to receive mail and look it up, but cannot send it out.

Can receive but not send mail while traveling

Hello:
wondering if there is a solution to this recurring problem. My email address is through my website, via my cable service, and I read it using Mail without a problem. However, when I'm traveling and using internet service other than my home, I can read my mail through Mail - but not send it. When I attempt to mail from the Mail window, it starts to send from my Outbox, and then fails, and delivers the message: "Cannot send using the server smtp [cable service name].net Use the popup menu below to try a different outgoing mail server."
I can successfully send if I log onto my mail on my website, but it's more steps. Is there a solution to this, or is this just the nature of using outside networks?

So can I just change the port number in my Mail>Pref>Accounts>Advanced pane, and be able to mail while traveling? Or does that create some kind of conflict with my current mail/cable provider settings? Port is currently set to 110. (It does say "check with your sysadmin before changing any of these settings". Alas.)

Hello, my provider is talk talk ( AOL).
When connected with my home WiFi network I can receive emails but I cannot send them.
This from my laptop and all the other devices ( iPhone and iPad) on the home network.
When I send using the Talk Talk account a message says my email address was rejected by the server. All the account settings match the ones given to me by Talk Talk , I tried to delete the account and set it up again but itdoesn't work. The Connection Doctor window shows all green lights.
Talk Talk support said to contact Apple.
Can you help please?

Verizon wireless iPhone 4 / can receive email cannot send on Road Runner

Help! I just got my new iPhone from Verizon Wireless today and the consultant set up my email for me. I can receive emails from Road Runner, but I cannot send them. I have tried every setting on the Internet that I can find, but none of them work in order for me to receive email. I got this phone so I could send and receive email...I have read that a lot of people who have Road Runner email have the same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am not a techy, but I am usually able to describe to the support people the exact conditions under which errors occur. Why this issue that we are both having, as common as it is (do a search and you will see it everywhere), is not common knowledge is beyond me.
To review my situation: If I was hooked to a Wi-Fi connection, I had no problem receiving or sending emails from my Time Warner account. Once I disabled the Wi-Fi switch on iPhone (as if I were out of range, traveling) and tried to send a message with my TW email account, I got the error message that it "could not identify" the server and then the email would go to my outbox.
I think I have found the answer after about an hour on the phone: a call to Time Warner who eventually urged me to call Verizon about outgoing server settings, a call to Verizon who told me that the problem was with TW and their settings, a call again to Time Warner, and finally I received a call from Verizon tech support to make sure I got my answer from Time Warner! The short answer is: Time Warner has an issue/limitation (Perhaps with the 3G network?)
*The second call to TW revealed what Verizon support suspected....YOU NEED TO BE ON A WI-FI TO SEND EMAILS VIA TW. No problem ever receiving--just sending.* I hope this sheds some more light on your situation. Not a major deal for me, (I'll probably use a gmail account), but it is good to know WHY something does not work. All parties were helpful and patient at least.

Using Mail to access my Gmail account, can receive but cannot send

I've checked, double checked, and triple checked to make sure the settings are what gmail says to set them to. I tried both port 25 and 587. I've tried deleting my inbox. I keep getting:
Error:
This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
The server "stmp.gmail.com" cannot be contacted on port 587.
What could I be doing wrong?

You need to make sure to go into the settings on your gmail account and under "Forwarding and POP" and check the box "Enable POP". Hope this helps.

Because of buyout, had to switch over from Adelphia to Comcast this weekend. With the help of Comcast, reset Mac mail on both G4 and G3 running OS 10.4.9. Got everything finally working Sunday, but today, G4 will not send.
Error: "Message could not be delivered, will remain in Outbox until it can. Connection to server "smtp.comcast.net" on port 110 timed out." Any ideas?

I, too, got caught up in this Comcast busines. When I reset my Mail preferences per their instructions, I found that I could receive e-mail but not send it. After spending almost an hour with TWO of their so-called technical people, I was told that mine was an OEM problem and there was nothing else that Comcast could do for me.
YET, by changing the server port from Comcast's recommended 587 setting back to 25 (which it had been when I was with Time-Warner), I could then send e-mails!

I inserted another sim card from my friend into my hp to check whether the sim card was working. After I took it out and re-inserted my original sim card, I realised could not use my original sim card to send smses. However I can still receive and make ourgoing calls, as well as receive smses. Anyone knows what could be done?

Your message centre number has probably been lost.
You need to contact your network and they will tell you the correct message centre number to use and how to enter it.
