Can see my machine through vpn, but can't connect...

Hello all,
On 10.8.1 with ARD 3.6.1 at home-Mac MIni Server.
Connected through a VPN (Cisco IPSec) to my office.
I can see my work station at work (10.8.1, ARD 3.6), but I CAN'T connect.
Message I get is: Make sure remote management is enabled in sharing (it is) or that your network interface is working (it is).
I can see my other stations at work with ARD 3.5.1 through 3.5.2 with 10.7 and I can connect to those with no problems.
And I can connect from my laptop (10.8.1, ARD 3.6) at home to my this mac mini server and vice versa.
Does anyone know why I can't connect to the one at work? something with the VPN, seems like the only variable here.

problem solved.
I couldn't reinstall it because I had an older version. After installing the old version and upon launch, it will say that an newer version is already installed... blah... blah...
Apparently, ARD is a part of the mountain lion and it is not easily removed. So don't try, I followed apple tech support doc and it didn't work.
What I had to do was to restore the newest version, cause I deleted it, but this time I aslo deleted all the system files related to the ARD and the pref, plist, etc.
This time I launched 3.6 again, set the pref, and I was able to connect from my home computer to my work computer.
Success!!

    First, what is the formatting of the external hard drive?  It should be OS X Extended (journaled). You can determine it by selecting the EHD and typing Command + i.

    If it isn't formatted to that you should move the library off of it and reformat.
    The "!" is an indication that the file path to the original file has been broken  So make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
    Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
    Select the options identified in the screenshot. 
    Fix #2
    Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
    Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
    Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
    In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
    Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Can see Library on new computer but can't play!!???

    I bought a new computer and have installed iTunes.  I can see my Library of music but I can't play it because it says I have already reached my five allowed computers to operate iTunes.  My other computers have broken through the years and I have gotten rid of them.  How can I play my music?    

    There should be no problem using the deauthorize all command and then reauthorizing the machines that you actually use, although bear in mind that you can't use that command again for a year.
    Note too that authorizaton only affects iTunes DRM protected content. If you can't play anything then something else is going on...
    See also this migrate iTunes library post. If you're planning to switch which computer you use to sync your device to you may have problems if you copied the media across and added it into a new library, rather than copying over the library as a unit.

  • I can see songs on my iphone but can not see them in itunes

    I have the IOS 7 and iphone is a 4.  I can see songs on my iphone but cannot see them on itunes.  I want to be able to see them so that I can move them to a playlist.

    If i have to restore my phone, I would loose data. At the momen, that's a last resort to me as everything works fine apart from this music problem.
    Is there a way to fix the database? I can see the music is on my phone with iTunes so it is there in one form or another ...but I can't play it
    Has anyone had the same issue?
    Are there any suggestions?
    If i call Apple support would they be able to help?

    Can see iPad Air in iTunes but will no longer sync or back up, could 2 days ago. Can drag apps from library onto device however 'apply' is not available, nor is 'sync' under Devices.

    Disconnect other USB devices from your computer and connect iPad to a different USB 2.0 port on your computer (not on your keyboard).
    Turn iPad off and turn it on again. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPad for a few seconds, until a red slider appears. Then slide the slider.
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
    Restart your computer. Then reconnect iPad to your computer.
    Download and install (or reinstall) the latest version of iTune

  • I can see midi instruments in playback but can't hear them. How?

    I have a Macbook Pro and I'm using Logic express for the first time.
    I am recording guitar tracks and playing them back using an M-Audio firewire 410.
    However when I try to do anything with a midi instrument I can't hear it at all. I'm seeing the notes that i hit on the keyboard appear in the track and I can see the light bumping up and down in time to the notes.
    Yet at no point will ANY of the audio emerge for the midi instruments.
    This all works fine with Garage band and Reason and the LE 7.2.3 download has been installed.
    Any idea where I'm going wrong.

    I am having the same problem or a similar problem. I'm running Logic Express 7.2.3. on an 800MHz PowerPC G4, using Mac OS X version 10.4.9. I've gone into Logic Pro > Preferences > Audio and the Core Audio Tab is checked "Enabled." I've entered notes as midi data on track 18 (Polysynth) and can see them on the score screen, and when I press "play" the verticle line moves across the notes but I hear nothing through the speakers attached to the computer. I've also tried the Caps Lock Keyboard and never get any sound through the speakers no matter which Audio Instrument I select. The only sound I've ever obtained from the program has been the clicks when the record button is pressed. I have been searching the manuel and Orren Morton's LOGIC PRO 7 POWER! but have found nothing that works. Any assistance that anyone can give will be appreciated.

    I am able to connect my Canon Vixia HF10 to my iMac (using iLife) through USB- Iphoto opens and imports fine but the iMovie is not opening. I can see the folder with Unix files- please advise how to get movie clips into iMovie 7.1.4 Thank-you

    I got the HF10 as well and found out that my HF10 is not supported by iMovie.

    I learned that the NTSC HF10 is compatible, the PAL version however which I have is not (tag on the bottom of the camera states it's a HF10E).
    What worked for me, at least on iMovie08:
    1 Connect camera and manually start iMovie
    2 Now, open disc utility and select the mounted device carrying your movies
    3 select to make a disc image from this device
    When disc utility finalizes the image and mounts it, iMovie all of a sudden recognizes it as a camera, opens the import window and you can start importing from the disc image.
    Hope this works for you on iMovie07 as well.

  • Can see contents of remote disk, but can't see it's contents

    My configuration: MBA 13" (late 2010) and a Win7 computer with a DVD drive. Done everything as described in this note: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1777
    On MBA, I see the entry "Remote disk" on the sidebar, i see my Win7 PC in the list.
    But when I expand it, the contents are empty (a dvd is inside and I can see it both by file sharing and by RDP on Windows)
    What do I do wrong? Tx in advance

    I can see the Windows PC, but I cant see the drive.
    So I only can do a 'Get info' on the PC and it says 'PC server'

  • HT204387 My iphone and ipad can see each other on bluetooth but can't connect

    When I touch to connect, I get an error that reads 'make sure the iphone is turned on and in range". I can see the bluetooth connection on both devices, they just won't connect. I have turned off wifi on both devices. I have also tried connecting to & from both devices.

    I downloaded an app that can share a presentation loaded on one device with up to 15 other iOS devices. It said it would work over bluetooth.  I didn't realize you couldn't "pair" the devices but still use bluetooth. The developer said just to turn them both on and low and behold, it works like a charm and I feel silly.

  • ITunes can see my Apple TV 2 But can't select it

    I can see the Apple TV in the remote speakers selection, however when I go to select it, it just reverts to computer. I have tried restarting everything in my house, laptop, router, apple tv... Not sure where to go from here, I can select it from another laptop or my iPad 2 etc...

    That would suggest the Apple TV is in use. This can be the case even if the Apple TV isn't actually playing anything but is paused.
    Otherwise check both devices are on the same subnet (first 3 numbers in their addresses are identical) or whether the computer is running any security software.

  • I installed the latest version of iTunes (10.6.3.25) on a new Windows 7 PC.  I can see ahred libraries on Shared but can't import as the line containing the Settings and Import buttons does not display.   Any suggestions?

    To move the iTunes library to this new computer I switched on Home Sharing and can see the other libraries on my home network.  If I select tracks from a Shared library I can't import them as the strip containing "Show: All Items" and the "Settings" and "Import" buttons, does not display at the bottom of the screen.  Goes straight from the list of tracks to the strip with Playlist icons and xxxx items, tttttt total time, yyyy GB. 
    Any suggestions for making the Import button appear?

    I built a new computer which is EXTREMELY fast overclocked i7 ect and.. ITUNES DOESNT WORK
    I click on itunes which ive uninstalled and reinstalled and reset the winsock AND seen if there were any errors AAAAAAND ive check the Hkey to make sure bonjur was the only one in there which it is and all that happens is my cpu goes to 25% and i cant do anything except go into the task manager and close it! ANYTHING with itunes (everything else is premium speed).
    what do i do

    I can toggle through all the bluetooth-options though.

  • Can see Windows PCs from Mac, but can't see (and access) Mac from PCs

    Yesterday, I ran into a strange problem which I'm not able to figure out.
    I share an office with some engineers, who have their computer environment (server, network), all running Windows (XP and Vista on the PCs, Windows 2003 for the server).
    Within that environment, I have 2 PCs (both XP) and an iBook G4 (Leopard 10.5.4.). I have also a printer (Epson Laser), which is connected to the office network, and an Airport Extreme Base Station.
    Until last week, I could connect from my PCs to my iBook (wirelessly), and from the iBook I could connect to my PCs, the server, and via the server print on my printer (again, all wirelessly).
    Over the weekend, I took out the Airport Extreme Base Station (to help with an issue at home - see my thread over at Printing), and yesterday I brought it back to the office and installed it again.
    And since I re-installed the Base Station, this is the problem:
    1. from PCs, I can't see the iBook (can't attach a PC drive letter - eg. I:\), and therefore can't access it
    2. from the iBook, I can't print to my printer - furthermore, when I select the Printing preference and click "Add Printer", no printers whatsoever show up (the list stays blank), whereas before the engineers' printer (some Minolta Bizhub with Bonjour) would show up as well
    3. I can, however, access the Windows server from my iBook
    Any ideas what's going on? I tried to solve this, but gave up quickly (no way I can possibly figure this out), plus I have this issue at home (can't print wirelessly to a printer attached via USB to a Time Capsule - I can, however, print to the same printer if I attach it to the previously used Airport Express!) - 2 problems and mounting headaches!
    I am thinking about re-installing the whole system (take off all data, do a complete wipe and start afresh…), but don't like to spend a whole day doing this…

    You only need one computer to configure the Base Station - and since you can easily do this from your PC, you really don't need to be able to do it from your Mac as well. I suggest you stop worrying about this, leave your Base Station running with the current firmware version, and use your PC if you ever need to make a configuration change.
    Note that NO Base Station software needs to be installed on the Mac, for the Mac to be able to connect wirelessly to the Base Station. If your Mac is currently unable to establish a wireless connection to the Base Station, you have a different problem - and one that won't be solved by installing the Airport Admin Utility or downgrading firmware on the Base Station. Incidentally - what type of wireless security are you using on the Base Station - WEP or WPA? A base station configured to use WPA security will only be accessible by a Mac running at least MacOS 10.3.

    We just updated to a new mac from a 7 year old Mac because the logic board died. =The Apple reseller did a data transfer and now we cannot see full size photos on our new screen. We see the thumb nails but when we try to open a photo in the photo section of the library we get a black screen with an exclaimation mark. How do we fix this?

    When you first boot your new Mac, it will boot into Setup Assistant. It will walk you through registration and then ask you if you want to migrate. Choose the disk you want to migrate from and choose all settings. No newer apps will be overwritten with older ones. No third party software will be lost. Although you should check compatiblity of apps with ML.
