Can send to SMTP using SSL from everywhere but home!
Hi all,
This is a very very peculiar problem and god knows I have had my share of strange problems with computers but I think this one tops them all. The situation is the following:
I would like to be able to send email using my work SMTP server which requires a secured SSL connection. I have the correct configuration in Mail. When I am at work, I am able to send emails with no problems. When I am anywhere else (free wifi at mcDonalds, friend's home,..) I can send no problem....But I CAN'T SEND FROM HOME!!
I get an error message telling me to try another server. I have tried pinging the server from home and there is no problem there. I have also tried Outlook Express running on Parallels on the same machine and from home and there is also no problem: the emails go through!
If anyone has any suggestions, I would really appreciate it as I am about to go crazy!

Try a test by creating a New User Account, and as that New User launch Mail and try setting up this work related account, and then test sending. See the following if not familiar with adding a new user account:

The reason for doing this is to test the Mail app itself, and not to permanently switch to a new user account. If this account is a POP account, be sure to select for it to leave messages on the server after download. That would not be an issue with type IMAP.

After installing the new Yosemite OS on my iMac I can no longer send email. I can receive email, but not send. I use gmail and can send email on the gmail (google) site, but not on "mail" on my iMac. Any others with this problem? What should we do?
My gmail, which is correctly configured for Mail with gmail SMTP and Google IMAP, works for awhile on Mail, which I leave open while working on other applications. But several times a day I get msg from Google: "We recently blocked a sign-in attempt to your Google Account" . . . and requiring me to verify my account details, re-enter passwords, confirm security settings (or change them from "disable" to "enable less secure methods" and so on). In Mail I also have tried "taking all accounts online", and re-entering my gmail password inside Mail account settings. These steps successfully re-set comms between gmail and Mail ... for awhile, then it happens again. Enough occurrences over a work day that I just quit Mail and revert to accessing gmail directly. Apple Care advisor and an Apple knowledge base article say that Apple can't deal with this, as gmail is third-party app, and they refer me to gmail, and so far I've found nothing helpful there.
From today I also have several instances of a window saying "Mail has unexpectedly closed" and asking me to Re-open it.
I also use Yahoo mail, which stops working with Mac Mail at the same time as gmail, but I do not receive notices to re-verify from Yahoo.
I recently upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite. The Mail problem happened occasionally with Mavericks but is far more frequent with Yosemite. -
Mail.app suddenly can't read POP using SSL, but Thunderbird can

This afternoon, my mail configuration stopped working suddenly. I'm using Mail.app under 10.5.6, reading my mail from my own domain host, which is on a shared server managed by my hosting company. I read my mail using POP, SSL encrypted. This has worked, stably, for a very long time. Now, POP + SSL fails to connect. Disabling SSL makes it work. Setting up an IMAP account for the same domain works. Outgoing SMTP mail using SSL works. But POP + SSL doesn't. I set up an account in Thunderbird, just as a sanity check, and that account DOES work using POP + SSL. Then I set up an account on my wife's Macbook running 10.4.11, and it DOESN'T work with POP + SSL, and does work with POP without SSL.
(When I reboot and start Mail.app, I get the familiar, "Untrusted certificate" dialogue, because the hosts mismatch: my host is www.myhost.com, but the certificate is issued for the machine that the hosting company uses to host my domain and a number of others, host789.hostingcompany.com. This has never caused a problem for me, and I have no reason to believe that it's the problem here - I get the same dialogue under Thunderbird, which works fine.)
I'm assuming that something odd has happened on my domain host. The certificate was issued on 3/11, which is recently enough that I can imagine that I'm seeing the new certificate for the first time (maybe I'm grasping at straws here). In any case, it's gotta be some way that Mail.app is cranky about SSL that Thunderbird is not.
I've got a help ticket submitted to my domain host, but I doubt they're Mac experts. So my question is: can anyone think of anything that they might want to check out which may account for this sudden change in behavior? Disabling SSL permanently is not an option.

i have downloaded OS X Yosemite using recovery from boot but while installing error occuring showing unable to extract essential.pkg so can't install. problem is i have already formatted my drive and dont have any os right now. only the downloaded new os x yosemite in the os x base system. please help
Please try again after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already taken.
Step 1
Reset your computer’s PRAM.
Step 2
If your model has user-replaceable memory, and you've upgraded the memory modules, reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts. Clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Aftermarket memory must exactly match the technical specifications of the machine.
Step 3
Back up all data to at least two different storage devices, if you haven't already done so. One backup is not enough to be safe. The backups can be made with Time Machine or with Disk Utility. Preferably both.
Erase and install OS X. This operation will destroy all data on the startup volume, so you had be better be sure of the backups.
Step 4
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider to have the machine tested. -

My laptop was stolen lately with iCloud activated on it. I realize that i can remotely wipe it using find my phone but I really doubt that the thief will go online. So is there a way to stop that laptop from getting my iCloud updates at least?
Help.I have the same problem, my laptop was stolen with my girlfriend's icloud activated on. If the Laptop is switched on with access to the internet it will connect to icloud. How can I find out the IP's that are connected to my icloud. That lack of information who is connected to your icloud is not qool . Sorry for my english.

I have both an Ipad and Iphone ( not so unique) But I ran in to a question. Is there a way I can send messaged to my Ipad from my Iphone? Is so Please realize that is is new to me and step by step is the only way I am going to figure it out. My iPhone is a 5s running 8.12 and Ipad 4 but not the latest version. Any thoughts?

To sync photos from a Mac or Windows PC to your device using photo applications
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed.
In iTunes, select your device's icon in the Devices list on the left.
Click the Photos tab.
Choose "Sync photos from."
On a Mac, choose iPhoto or Aperture from the pop-up menu.
On a Windows PC, choose Photoshop Album or Photoshop Elements from the pop-up menu.
Note: Some versions of Photoshop Album and Photoshop Elements don't support collections. You can still use them to sync all your photos.
If you want to sync all your photos, enable the option for "All photos, albums, events, and faces." If you want to sync photos from only some albums, events, or faces, enable the option for "Selected albums, events, and faces" and then select the albums you want. If syncing on a Mac with iPhoto version 6.0.6 or later, you may enable the option to "Include videos" to sync videos directly from iPhoto to your device. (Requires iOS 3.0 or later).
Click Apply.
To sync photos from a folder on your hard disk to your device
Drag the images you want into a folder on your computer. If you want images to appear in separate photo albums on your device, create folders inside the main folder and drag images into the new folders.
In iTunes, select the device icon in the Devices list on the left.
Choose "Sync photos from."
Select Choose Folder from the pop-up menu and choose your main image folder.

I revive messages from everyone but one person on my phone I had my iMessage on my iPad but I turned it off and also off on my phone but I can't seem too receive messages from them but they get mine,?
They have an iOS device? If so, have them send as an SMS, not an iMessage.

I have a 25" 2.8 GHz Intel core 2 Duo working on OS X 10.8.4, within past 2 days we've had the black screen and the white screen, we are up and kicking again but I can leave the computer playing music from iTunes, but within 10 minutes the screen is back, yet the music is still playing in the background. I can't get rid of the black screen unless I force quit the computer, then it starts ok. Then the process starts all over again.

The Ipdas are using IOS 6 and can text to other iphones by phone number or apple id. I have tried hard resets and did a full restore and still no success. I am using IOS 6.0.1 and have had the phone checked at our local Apple dealer and I took it to the local ATT store to be sure my phone plan was not an issue.

I can send or reply to emails from home, but not when traveling
I can send emails and reply to emails when I'm here at home in California. Just got back from Florida where I could neither send or reply to emails. The same thing was happening on both my and my wifes 3gs phones. Ideas?
I had the same problem starting yesterday. I fixed it by turning off wifi when not at home. Now I can send and reply to e-mail.
I have found that if I leave the wifi on, the phone will keep trying to connect to the mail servers and drain the battery making the battery life problems MUCH worse. Not sure what will happen now that it has to use the cell network for all e-mails. -

My Mail program is not receiving messages all of a sudden. But I can send.
I have to get my mail at .Mac. Just tried fixing permissions. No luck yet. I just sent myself an email and it came into .Mac but not to my Mail program.

More than likely .Mac but to confirm, at the menu bar for the Mail application go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts.
Under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences, what is shown next to Account Type?
If .Mac, a .Mac type account with the Mail application is really an IMAP account and behaves in the same way so try using the Rebuild Mailbox function on the Inbox mailbox for your .Mac account.
If there is a black triangle to the left of Inbox in the mailboxes drawer, select it pointing it down to reveal your .Mac account named Inbox mailbox. Select the mailbox and at the menu bar go to Mailbox and select Rebuild.
All messages in the message list for the account's Inbox mailbox will disappear temporarily and the mailbox will be resynchronized with the server. -
Sending SNMP traps using JDMK from a SunOS 5.8 workstation
Hi,
We are using JDMK 5.1 for sending traps. This works when I run my java application (sending the traps) on my Windows desktop, where I have installed the JDMK.
I want to run my application on a Sun workstation . For this I copied the JDMK libraries and traps are not received by the SNMP Manager. I would like to know the procedure for using JDMK from Sun OS. Do I have to install the Agent on Sun workstation rather than just copying the libraries?

-RejaniThere is a big difference between an app that isn't sending traps and one that isn't receiving them.
You aren't eating exceptions in your code are you? If not then that means the traps are being sent. And if so then it means it has nothing to do with your application and probably nothing to do with the box and probably does have something to do with the network. -

Again, i-devices are not realy intended to be used as stand-alone devices, certainly not when you're talking about extended options. We do use an iPhone without a computer but it has never been synced in the 2 years we have had it and has no media on it other than what is produced by the camera.
You talk about downloading new music, but without the Mac you pretty much won't be able to do that anyway. You can purchase music from the iTunes Store and then it is, or course, in iCloud and can be downloaded to other devices too from there (with small limitations into which I won't go).
