Can service application be installed on sql server in sharepoint 2013

Hi ,
I want to install SharePoint server 2013. I have two machines
machine 1 : 4 Gb ram , 2.53 GHZ processor  core i5 processor( I could upgrade ram to 8 GB)
Machine 2: 8 GB ram , 2.43 GHZ processor core i3 processor.
I want to install sql server 2008 R2  on one of the machine and SharePoint server 2013 on another.
I want to get best performance out of  two systems.
I would do farm installation.
1.) Does sql server need to be more powerful or SharePoint server hardware wise.
2.) Can i install applications like , search server , access server etc on the server running sql server.
Basically I am looking for best performance.

  • Use a seperate SQL server in Sharepoint 2013

We have SharePoint 2013 installed and running and its config, content, Search, etc. DBs on SQL 2008R2.
I want to create several NEW SharePoint DBs on a different SQL server that is running SQL 2012 SP1 (For BI mainly) but Im getting errors when attempting to do this.  I do have rights on the server and in SQL to perform this action but what
im afraid is that SharePoint doesn't allow me connect to two different SQL servers in the same SP farm.  I'm am wrong on this assumption?

You can have as many SQL Servers attached to a farm as you want. Make sure your Farm Admin has dbcreator and securityadmin rights. Then, of course validate that there are no network or host-based firewalls blocking access to SQL ports.

  • Change Sql server of sharepoint 2013

I have instlled sharepoint 2013 with sql express edition. Now the issue is rising that my database grows up more than 10gb. Now i want to move it to sql express edition. Suggest me the best way to do?
I have database backup. Sharepoint site backup and stuff required to do.
    Thanks in advance.

If you still have enough disk space, you can upgrade your Express Edition to Standard Edition on the same server and install the appropriate SQL Server updates. If you want to move the databases to a different server running SQL Server standard edition,
you can backup the databases from the Express Edition, restore it on the Standard Edition, copy the SQL Server logins between them and create a SQL Alias on the SharePoint servers to point to the new Standard Edition database server

Anyone can help me to install de SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatibility componentes in Windows 7 home, Intel Core Duo
It say that is not compatible.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
We can see this feature pack was issued in Nov 2005 from the site, which may not be updated
to add Windows Vista/7 to supported operating systems. However, I can download and install X64 (64-bit)
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatibility Components on Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit successfully.
If you get any error while installing, please let me know.

At UC platform i can see some applications are installed on Windows server and some directly to VMWare. Pls explain?

Pretty much all newer versions of UC applications have started supporting virtualization so they can be installed on the VMware.
Have a look at dockwiki for virtualization supported apps:
    http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Unified_Communications_Virtualization_Supported_Applications
Some applications like CUCM version 4 were windows based previously but going ahead with version 5, 6 onwards the OS has been changed to Linux Operating system.
Let me know if you need any more information.

  • Changing sql server service and sql server agent service startup account in SQL Server hosting SharePoint DB

    Hi
i have a sharepoint deployment with one SQL Server (running on VM) hosting the config DB and another SQL Server (Physical Host because VM was running out of space) to host the huge Content DBs. I need to schedule automatic backups of the Content DBs to a
network share. For that i need to run the SQL Server Service with an account having permissions to the share as suggested in https://support.microsoft.com/kb/207187?wa=wsignin1.0
I tried changing the logon as a service account to a domain
account which has permissions to the Network Share and is also in local Administrators group of SQL Server and has "public and sysadmin" roles in SQL Server but that caused an issue. the SharePoint Web Application started showing a White Screen so
I had to revert back to the default accounts i.e. NT Service\SQLSERVERAGENT and NT Service\MSSQLSERVER. I viewed the event logs . These are the types of error i got after changing the logon as a service account to a domain account

    Hi Aparna,
According to your description, you get the above two errors when scheduling backups of Content DB. Right?
Based on those two error messages, they are related to the service principal name(SPN) for SQL Server service. Please verify the if the SPN is registered successfully. You can view it in ADSI Edit or use command line. Please see:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/psssql/archive/2010/03/09/what-spn-do-i-use-and-how-does-it-get-there.aspx
When installing SQL Server, those two services below should be registered:
            MSSQLSvc/servername:1433
            MSSQLSvc/servername
Please check if those SPNs or duplicated SPNs exist. You can use command to reset SPN or remove duplicated SPN and add new one. See:
    Setspn.
We have also met this issue when this SPN is registered under Administrator. Please try to register it under Computer. You can add it in ADSI Edit.
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • Temporarily disable Digital Signature Checks to Install MS SQL Server 2008 with no Internet Access

I am attempting to install a licensed copy of MS SQL Server 2008 in a Private Enclave that does NOT have Internet access on a Win2008 R2 SP1 server (that is VM - thus I can't reboot and press F8 to select "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement"
). The installation fails with an error of the vc_red.cab file being found either corrupt or a bad digital signature.  The file is good, but the signature has an expiration of 2011.   I understand that a DOTNET SDK v1.1 program called setreg.exe
will enable disabling the digital signature check, but I am not permitted to use that program.
I might be permitted to use the "Signtool.exe" utility, but it is not clear what command sequences are necessary to disable and then re-enable the Digital Signature checks.
I saw a thread that recommended using the command:
    bcdedit.exe /set nointegritychecks ON
However, the comments indicated that this might not have worked.
Are there Registry settings I can use with regedit to make the necessary changes to be able to install the application?  I anticipate running into this problem with other software when I do not have Internet connectivity.   I already tried
downloading the Microsoft CRL files; updated the lists on the Server; and rebooted.  This did not solve my problem.

    Hi,
As far as I know, it is not recommended to disable digital signature check.
Since we are not familair with installing MS SQL server, please also refer to SQL forums below to see if experts there have more insights regarding the matter.

    Hello,
Please try deleting the following sub folder to see if this will work:
      C:\users\(my profile)\AppData\Local\Microsoft_Corporation
If you can't see AppData folder, you could use following steps to show hidden files:
     1. Open an explorer window, hit "ALT-T" choose Folder Options then go to the view tab.
     2. Turn on Show hidden files, folders or drives and
disable Hide protected Operating System files (recommended).

Similar error (not SQL Express but Enterprise) on my network reveals the following issue (still prevalent after removing and re-adding the machine to the network):
The kerberos client received a KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED error from the server host/machinename.domainname.local. The target name used was cifs/MACHINENAME. This indicates that the password used to encrypt the kerberos service ticket is different than that on the target server. Commonly, this is due to identically named machine accounts in the target realm (DOMAINNAME.LOCAL), and the client realm. Please contact your system administrator.
ALSO: The session setup from the computer MACHINENAME failed to authenticate. The name(s) of the account(s) referenced in the security database is MACHINENAME$. The following error occurred: Access is denied.
This default instance (Ent SQL 2008 on Ent Server 64 bit 2003 R2 SP2) failed with the MOF error using a service account to install SQL 2008.  Repair does not work.   "The SQL Server feature 'SQL_Engine_Core_Inst' is not in a supported state for repair, as it was never successfully configured. Only features from successful installations can be repaired. To continue, remove the specified SQL Server feature."
I expected to have more luck with the information here:  http://mark.michaelis.net/Blog/CategoryView.aspx?category=.Net but wound up with result seen in my next post.
Of note, tried the removal of leftover registry entries after a failed install as in link above, also removed sql folders prior to re-install. Error is the same and rather than list entire log here, there is a portion available below but as is evident, there is a permission error in the registry which verifies what mark michaelis has pointed out:

  • How to Move the Shared Services Registry to a different SQL Server

I have an Essbase installation purely running Essbase and Financial Reporting/Web Analysis.
The Shared Services database is held in SQL Server 2005 on one hardware platform and I need to move it to an alternative hardware platform also running SQL 2005.
I thought it might be as easy as backing up from one server and restoring to the other and then running EPM System Configurator.
Firstly, when running configurator and selecting the Hyperion Foundation Configure Database option, on the 'Shared Services and Registry Database Configuration' screen the details of the original hardware are displayed, clicking 'Next' gets no response.
If I can resolve this first issue, how do I then re-point the database to the new server?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi John
Took a look at the link thanks.
On point 3 it says to stop the original database. If you take the database offline, in configurator you don't then get the options in option 5!
In the dos command window for configurator I get 'Unknown Source' messages (either using current server or new).
configtool.log lists as follows. Does this point to anything?
    Thanks.

Can some one please help me out for this......
I will found in the Task manager the set up file is Running....

    Hi Ychinnari,
Based on your description, you fail to install SQL Server 2008 R2 on Windows 7 SP1.
According to the screenshot, we need to verify that if SQL Server 2008 R2 setup disappears when installing setup support files. If so, please post the error message from  SQLSetup.log file of the temp folder for analysis. Click on start->run and
type %temp %  and press enter, you will navigate to the temp folder. For more details, you can review this
blog.  Also, please help to collect the summary and detail logs, by default, the logs can be found in: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log.
In addition, there are some proposals for you troubleshooting this issue.
    1. Ensure that your system meets the
hardware and software requirements for installing SQL Server 2008 R2.
    2. Make sure that you install SQL Server 2008 R2 with a admin account, and please choose “Run as administrator” to  complete installation.
    3. Make sure that previous installations of SQL Server has been uninstalled completely from your computer. For more details, please review the similar blog:
SQL Server 2008 R2 Setup starts and then disappears.
    4. Stop any Anti-Virus software when installing SQL Server 2008 R2.
    Thanks,

  • Silent install of SQL Server 2008r2 for ALL users?

We ship an installer that does a silent install of SQL Server 2008r2 with all the 'right' parameters pre-configured. We use this:
    /QS /INSTANCENAME=MSSQLSERVER /ACTION=Install /FEATURES=SQL,BC,Conn,ADV_SSMS /SAPWD=MyPasswordGoesHere /SECURITYMODE=SQL /TCPENABLED=1 /ADDCURRENTUSERASSQLADMIN /SQLSVCSTARTUPTYPE=Automatic /SQLSVCACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM" /AGTSVCACCOUNT="NT
    AUTHORITY\SYSTEM" /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS
However, the problem is that if a tech installs it for another user, that user does not have access, since ADDCURRENTUSERASSQLADMIN flag only adds the user who installed it -- rather than adding ALL users on the computer. (Or at least all admins.)
I tried replacing ADDCURRENTUSERASSQLADMIN with this:
    /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS="BUILTIN\ADMINISTRATORS"
but that also failed to work. How can we install for all users, or at least all administrators?
NOTE: we do NOT know the name of the computer or the users. The installer has to work for any computer setup.
Similar question has already been asked, but wasn't helpful:
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/8354675f-be9b-4909-b776-942f03954807/how-to-do-a-silent-install-of-sql-2010-express-for-all-users-on-a-computer?forum=sqlexpress
The documentation does not make it clear what you can pass as allowed SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS parameters. I also am not sure if I would need to change the AGTSVCACCOUNT or SQLSVCACCOUNT?

    I tried one more thing:
    /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS="BUILTIN\Administrators"
which does not halt installation with an error.
    However, doing:
    osql -E
    create database test
    go
in a command prompt from a different admin user on the same machine results in a permissions error... but works if done from a command prompt on the user account from which MSSQLServer was installed.
So for some reason /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS="BUILTIN\Administrators" does not work as expected.
    Anyone have any idea why?
I checked the output log from the install, and found it had generated and used a configurationFIle to do the install. I looked in that file, and these were the settings, even though I did NOT pass /ADDCURRENTUSERASSQLADMIN as a command line option:
; Windows account(s) to provision as SQL Server system administrators.
    SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS="BUILTIN\Administrators"
; The default is Windows Authentication. Use "SQL" for Mixed Mode Authentication.
    SECURITYMODE="SQL"
; Provision current user as a Database Engine system administrator for SQL Server 2008 R2 Express.
    ADDCURRENTUSERASSQLADMIN="True"
