Can slot drive load mini-CD (80mm)?

I'm looking forward to get my new iMac soon. But I have loads of old mini CDs with 80mm diameter, and would like to know if they will work with the slot drive on iMac.
I've heard from somewhere that it will not work, but from my previous experience with some old CRT iMac with slot drive, as long as the disk is not irregular (i.e. still circular not those rectangular business card type), the old slot drive will take the disk in and read just like normal CD. Has any one tried to use those disks and encountered any problem with the new slot drive?
Thanks in advance!

Found the following at Apple Support:
"Warning: Inserting a nonstandard-sized or -shaped disc into a drive that is not designed to accommodate it may damage the drive. Some slot-loading drives may be able to accomodate 80 mm round discs, but their use is not supported and any damage caused will not be covered under your Apple warranty or applicable extended service contract."
Since your iMac is brand new, I'd advise extreme caution proceeding against Apple's advice.

  • Use of CD3 or Mini-CD's in a vertical slot driver on HP 520PC

I am needing to install some software into my computer and the manufacturer sent me a mini-CD.   Can I use it as is in my slot drive, or will it disappear inside the HP 520PC thus requiring professional assistance to remove it?
    This question was solved.

I wouldn't recommend trying to use a mini-CD in a slot load style CD/DVD drive. The most likely outcome is that the CD and/or CD/DVD drive will be damaged.

  • Horrible mistake-mini cd stuck in slot drive

Unfortunately I was unaware that mini discs are NOT to be loaded into slot drives prior to doing this. Now it is stuck and won't eject. Is there anything I can do? Please help!

Hold it with the slot facing down. Gently shake the computer to get the disc into the slot. You can use a 3x5 card (or other heavy stock) to help guide it. When you can see it, grasp it with needle nose pliers or tweezers.

  • Can i introduce a mini disc into the cd slot.

I need to install a router which comes with a mini disc. Will the mini disc work ? can I put the mini disc into the slot? will it get stuck?

NO you can't use it in the Apple optical SuperDrive and, YES, it would likely get stuck.
You really need an external drive with a tray, rather than a slot loading optical drive.

But the Mini CD-R is so small I'm afraid to try to slide it into the PowerBook cd slot and not get it out.

    No.
... the Mini CD-R is so small I'm afraid to try to slide it into the PowerBook cd slot and not get it out.
    That's exactly what can happen.
    Apple says don't do it.

You may have to take the computer to the Apple store to have it removed.

My Mac Mini is running on iOS 10.6.8 can it be loaded with 7.0 or higher?

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

  • Driver can't be loaded in Windows 7 64bit but can be loaded in Windows 8.

    Hello, every one!
I met a problem. I had developed a driver. I signed it with a Microsoft Cross Certificate and a Certificate of VeriSign. Then I install it in Windows 8 64bits machine. It can work as expected. But when I try to install it in Windows 7 64bits machine, it
can't be verified and be refused to load while system startup. I don't know the reason. Is there any different when windows 7 verify a application and windows 8 verify? I hope some one could be kind to help me. Thank you!
    Best Regards!

I'm sure this is a signing issue. I had contacted with certificate provision, they told me that w7 support sha1 verify algorithm, and w8 support all of sha1 and sha256. The driver I installed is signed with sha256. After I signed with sha1 instead, the driver
can be installed and load in w7 now.
But another problem happened. Today I find I can't make it be loaded in my w7 virtual machine. I am sure that the driver's signature is same as yesterday. And my w7 VM is same as the w7 yesterday too. Only 1 difference is that I installed the driver into
a w7 virtual machine, and yesterday is into a real machine. Additional, our test engineer told me that the driver can't be load in windows server 2008 64 bits too.
PS: I see the error in Event Browser following the path: Control Panel->Manager Tools->Event Browser, then open node: System tool->Event Browser->Application and Service->Microsoft->Windows->CodeIntegrity->Operational. There are many
error messages listed in right side. Double click anyone, the message popped up say: "Windows is unable to verify the image integrity of the file \Device\HarddiskVolume2\Windows\System32\drivers\MYDRIVER.sys because file hash could not be found on the
    system. ..."
Please tell me how to fix it or a http link is preferred too. Thank you!

  • I can't boot from OS install USB drive Mac Mini Model 1176

How I can't boot from OS install USB drive, Mac Mini Model 1176

Thank you Eustace Mendis for your answer.
I rebooted the Mac Mini holding the Option key down but it doesn't work. I used an USB drive with O.s 10.7 from Apple that I have used previuosly with other computers and I also tried with a CD install O.S 10.6
It seems that the Mac Mini can't recognize the keyboard inputs and I tried with 3 different keyboards but still didn't work.
I also reset the SMC and PRAM but I had no luck. Any clues?

hi can anyone help my slot drive will not take cds its as if its locked shut

If you cannot insert any CD or DVD at all and there is no CD in that drive, then the mechanism might be defective. I've had that and Apple replaced the drive under warranty. To find out, I'd suggest an appointment at your nearest Genius Bar for a free diagnosis - if it needs repair and you're out of warranty, they'll tell you how much it would be (in that case, an external burner might be less expensive).

  • Mid 2010 Mac Mini slot drive will not accept disks.

    Problem:
Tried playing a new commercial DVD but all I got was the rainbow pinwheel, I tried to eject the disk which took maybe 2 minutes but did happen.  I tried inserting disk again into slot drive and it just won't go in and appears to hit something about halfway in, I assume it's the drive spindle that maybe hasn't retracted properly on the last eject.
    I have;
successfully played this DVD in this drive the day before,
since played this DVD in another player,
tried other DVD's and CD's since the problem arose and none will go in.
shut down and powered up, reset the SMC, NVRAM and PRAM nothing changes for the slot drive.
As this machine is the heart of my Media Centre it's a real problem.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in antici-pation,
    John

Thanks, I had read that discussion but must have missed the part about downloading the "ForcEject" tool so I will try that in the morning although I know there is nothing in the drive but maybe it'll reset the drive load/eject sequence.

  • How can I skip early Intel driver loading? Affects boot splash...

When I boot up and watch the boot splash I can see the screens change and the text goes smaller. I'd rather have a consistant look. Is this to do with the Intel driver loading early and if so how I can change this so it loads once the boot splash is over?

Gusar wrote:Look instead into /sys/class/drm. You'll see a bunch of directories there the likes of card0-DVI-1 and such. It's the part after card0- we're interested in, in my example that would be DVI-1. Or you don't specify an output at all, in this case the resolution should apply to all outputs.
Thanks. That worked! LVDS-1 was my device. I also had a VGA but I think that was for the output connector.
I added the following into my kernal line in /boot/grub/menu.lst:
    video=LVDS-1:680x400
    * edit  *
I found the right resolution by going into the command line at grub, and then counting the vertical lines. Then i played around until the vertical resolution was correct and then adjusted the horizontal resolution.
