Can Snow Leopard and Leopard coexist on one machine?

I guess the question is does Snow Leopard update the firmware of exiting machines or is the firmware updated in the new machines so they cannot support Leopard or even Tiger to run on them?
Ideally I would like to install a second bootable hard drive with Leopard so we can run some apps that are not SL ready.
So, can I do that on a machine that already runs Snow Leopard?
Any ideas and suggestions are highly appreciated,
thanks,
NE

It all depends on the build date of the machine. It is unsupported to install any version of Mac OS X on any Mac older than the version it shipped with. So a Mac that came with Snow Leopard installed can't reliably made to run Leopard or Tiger. (It might work, but you will almost certainly encounter issues.)
Snow Leopard itself, however, does not update a machine's firmware when it is installed. Installing Snow Leopard on a machine does not preclude also running an older OS from time to time, as long as the machine was originally designed to run that OS at one point.

Sounds like the optical drive may be on it's way out. It should be possible to connect the Mac to one of the others by firewire and do the installation by booting from the install disc in the donor Mac, then choosing the remote HD as the target when prompted.

Can snow leopard server work in mac book pro

I would generally not recommend booting OS X Server natively on an OS X MacBook Pro system or any other portable (because server really wants a static IP for various of its services, and portables tend to wander networks), but it is possible to boot Snow Leopard Server OS X Server 10.6 for certain MacBook Pro systems.
If your MacBook Pro is newer than that list, then 10.6 will not boot on your MacBook Pro directly, but it's possible to install a third-party virtual machine software package onto OS X, and to then load and boot OS X Server 10.6 as a guest within the virtual machine — I'd suspect this is where you're headed here, too.  I'd further guess that you've some old PPC PowerPC software around that requires Rosetta for its operations, as OS X Server 10.6 is one of the ways recommended for accessing that old software.
There are commercial and free virtual machines available for various versions of OS X.

  • Restore data (iTunes Library, Photo's, files etc.) to Snow Leopard from a Time Machine backup made on OSX Lion?

    Hi,
I have OSX Lion and have been backing up to Time Machine, I now want to do a clean install of Snow Leopard (not from backup), but can I restore my data (iTunes Library, Photo's, files etc.) to Snow Leopard from a Time Machine backup made on OSX Lion?
    Thanks.

You should be able to restore iTunes and iPhoto files if the Lion system was running the same version of those applications that you'll have on the Snow Leopard system.  However, you won't be able to restore files for applications like Mail, Address Book, or Safari, as the versions of those won't match.

  • How do i set up a new lion imac from a snow leopard imac using time machine?

How do i set up a new lion imac from a snow leopard imac using time machine?

Connect the two via Firewire cable - Transferring files between two computers using FireWire. Boot the old iMac into Target Disk Mode. Boot the new iMac normally.
If you are starting the new iMac for the first time then do the above before you turn on the new iMac. After you turn on the new iMac you will begin in the Setup Assistant. When you complete the registration screens you will be offered an opportunity to migrate your data from another Mac. Follow the instructions to migrate your old Home folder, third-party applications and support files, and system preferences to the new iMac.
If you have already gone through the Setup Assistant and created an initial admin user account, then you do the connection step but will use Migration Assistant in the Utilities folder of the new iMac.

  • Can I pair and use more than one set of bluetooth speakers at the same time on my ipod touch 4.0

can I pair and use more than one set of bluetooth speakers at the same time on my ipod touch 4.0 or Iphone 4s or Ipad 2?

You can only connect to one device at a time using Bluetooth, See article below for more information.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1664
While your iOS device can maintain multiple pairing records, it can only connect to one headset or hands-free device at a time. This prevents your iOS device from sending your data to the wrong Bluetooth accessory.

  • Can I create and use more than one repository on OVM 2.1.5

The version of Oracle VM I am using is 2.1.5 .
I wonder can I create and use more than one repository on OVM 2.1.5. Because I want to install different GOS on different disks.
I know in Oracle VM 2.2 we can use following commands to realize that.
    a. #/opt/ovs-agent-2.3/utils/repos.py –n /dev/mapper/mpathxp1
    b. #/opt/ovs-agent-2.3/utils/repos.py –r UUID
    c. #/opt/ovs-agent-2.3/utils/repos.py –i
And other repositories can also be mounted and found under /var/ovs/mount/UUID.
But in Oracle VM 2.1.5, seems just one repository can be created and mounted. For example:
At first, I create a repository using mpath1p1:
    a. # mkfs.ocfs2 /dev/mapper/mpath1p1
    b. #/usr/lib/ovs/ovs-makerepo /dev/mapper/mpath1p1 C "cluster root"
    c. I can find the repository has been mounted under /OVS.
But if I want to use "/usr/lib/ovs/ovs-makerepo /dev/mapper/mpath2p1 C "cluster root" to create another repository, and check the mount status using command "mount", these two disks are all have been mounted under /OVS.
"# cat /etc/ovs/repositories", only mpath1p1 with UUID was recorded there.
After reboot, only repository with mpath1p1 was mounted under OVS.
Can anyone tell me how to use more than one repositories on OVM 2.1.5. Do I have to install all the GOSs on the same disk and repository.
    Thank you very much.

Now I've known how to create different repository. They will be mounted under /OVS/UUID. Thanks.

You will be able to do copy & paste when 3.0 comes out this summer.
Or even better while the iPhone is connected to my PC can I view the address book on the iPhone and make changes using my PC keyboard?
No. You would make changes to the address book on your PC and then sync via iTunes.

    Problem:
I have developed an application with the LabVIEW DSC module and I created and used an NI Security Domain. Now I want to move this application to another network or PC. How can I keep the Domain settings for the new PC/network?
    Solution:
You should copy the directory located at Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\Domain to the same location on the destination PC. To apply the changes you should restart your computer.
You can also completely remove the NI Security Domain (if you forget your password, etc.) by deleting all the files from this Domain folder.
