Can Solaris v 9 SPARC software run on Solaris v9 x86 OS?

Can certifiied Solaris v9 SPARC software run on Solaris v9 x86 OS? If not what is the benefit of using the x86 version of Solaris 9?
Marius Roets

If you are asking will the binaries run, the short answer is no, the binaries are not compatible.
If you have src you should be able to compile and then install/run the software.

  • Sparc Storag Array 102 needs to run under solaris 10

I need to get a Sparc Storage Array to run under solaris 10. The soc driver that is needed is not supportted under solairs 10. I took the packages needed off of solari 9 cd and installed them but no luck. I tried to to do a modload and modinfo but it was not there.
The package loaded a file into /kernel/drv/sparcv9/soc. I have solaris 9 onanother disk on the same system and looked at the system trying to copy and edit the files on 10 but not device paths show up in the system. I copyied a file called soc that was in /kernel/drv/ I edited the /etc/device_aliases and path_to_inst but no good.
There are no entries in the /devices/ dir that reference the soc path. I do not if than can work but really would like to get this working.

The fibre interface on that beast is NOT a Gigabit connection,
such as is common on current systems.
It was a 100Mbps connection through an array controller,
running with a 40MHz microSPARC II control module.
You'd exceed its throughput capabilities in any attempt
to read or write data at or beyond that 100Mbps rate.

Maybe because it's not a 'genuine' retail version? Many OEM versions just don't work - and I've no idea which flavor of Win7 your friend downloaded. Obviously one that Boot Camp doesn't recognize. Best to just pony up the cash for a full retail version, of some flavor - and use it. You COULD, of course, download the 14-day trial version of Parallels Desktop and see if you can install Win7 as a virtual machine... it might or might not work. Boot Camp just isn't finding the resources it needs on the copy you have - try Parallels and if that doesn't work just purchase a retail (or student discounted) version.

  • Problem running sdk 1.5.0 on solaris 5.6 sparc

After installing the sdk, I try to run java -version and it gives me this error:
dl failure on line 704Error: failed /usr/jdk1.5.0/jre/lib/sparc/client/libjvm.so, because ld.so.1: ./java: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/jdk1.5.0/jre/lib/sparc/client/libjvm.so: symbol getloadavg: referenced symbol not found
I have also downloaded and applied http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/show.pl?target=patches/J2SE recommended patches but still no joy.
    Please help

Yes something happened between 1.4.2_08 and 1.4.2_09 which prevents it from running on Solaris 2.6. My guess is the VM added a call to "getloadavg()" which is not in the 2.6 objects. This really stinks since now I cannot remediate the security issues with Java past _08. I would REALLY like this call removed. Doesn't seem that it is a real necessity.

  • Can I revert back after upgrading to Mavericks operating system? Can't get my Adobe software to run properly.

Can I revert back to a previous operating system after upgrading to Mavericks? Since installing Mavericks I can't get my Adobe software to run properly.

Thanks, for your replies. I've got a late 2012 iMac (2.7 GHz Intel Core i5). I was previously running Snow Leopard - Not sure exactly what version but it was right up to date.
The Adobe software I'm using is the Creative Cloud. Specifically InDesign cc. Whenever I try to browse folders through the InDesign software the browser window closes before I can do what I need to do. So I cant place images into my InDesign document or save documents properly.
On the Adobe website it says that they worked with apple to fix any bugs before the Mavericks release but there's lots of complaints on the forums. I've left a bug notification with Adobe but I don't expect that they will be offering any solutions or software updates any time soon.
I really just want to revert back without too much trouble.

How long do you leave it?
Mine can sometimes sit for quite a while (maybe 10 minutes??) before it finally finishes.
You could look at the relevant logs via Console (Utilities folder) to see if Software Update is complaining about anything.

  • Solaris 10 Development - SPARC vs AMD

    Hello Everyone,
We currently develop software for Solaris 9 and Solaris 10 for SPARC. We now need to make our software available for Solaris 10 on AMD.
What are the basic requirements for this? Do we need an AMD system running Solaris 10? Can we still compile on SPARC and it will work on an AMD system?
    Thanks.

It would be easier to just setup an AMD box and compile on it directly. Having said that you can setup a cross compiler and have it compile for multiple operating systems.

  • Printing barcodes on 10g server running on Solaris OS

    Hi,
We are using Reports 10g (10.1.2) on Solaris Operating System (SPARC 32-bit).
We wanted to print barcodes using Java bean method. It prints fine in windows, but giving below error when run on web using rwservlet. Actually we are using virtual display using xvfb.
My question is: Do we need to have physical display by setting up another machine like in 6i ?
Can we achieve the rendering of barcode image using virtual display ?
What are the setup steps needs to be followed if rendering is possible with out using physical display ??
    Thanks somuch!!!

we are running Xvfb located at /usr/openwin/bin/
In particular, we are starting the Xvfb server with the following command:
    nohup Xvfb :1 -screen 0 1600x1200x32 &
We are then setting the DISPLAY on the command line and in the reports.sh
    script using: DISPLAY=10.25.3.123:0.0; export DISPLAY
We verify that it recognizes the display using "xset -q"
In reports.sh file We entered below line:
    ## REPORTS_DEFAULT_DISPLAY=NO; export REPORTS_DEFAULT_DISPLAY
    DISPLAY=10.25.3.123:0.0; export DISPLAY
But still we are getting java.awt.GraphicsEnvironment.checkHeadless(GraphicsEnvironment.java:121)
    MSG-00100: java.awt.Window.<init>(Window.java:274) Errors.
Is there anything wrong in the above setup ?
    Please advice.

  • How to install owb server-side software on UNIX Solaris (SPACR-64)?

    Hi there,
How to install owb server-side software on UNIX Solaris (SPACR-64)?
    I've read the install guide
    and it mentions
    3. Start the installer by entering the following at the prompt:
    cd mount_point
    ./runInstaller
I don't have access to any graphical interface on the UNIX box e.g. x-windows nor any cd with the software, just the solaris software downloaded from web - does this include the runinstaller
and is the runisnatller just a command line interface?
I hoped I would be able to download the software from oracle website and then simply run the a setup scrip?
Is it possible to do this? Would I simply substitute cd mount_point to cd <directory I put software)
I've never ran oracle universall installer on UNIX before.
    Many Thanks

    Hi,
You can install the server-side software from the downloaded software.
    You don't need the CD
You do need an X-windows client on your computer to connect to the server OR work directly on the server.
Without X-windows you cannot start the Oracle Universal Installer.
Maybe there is a command line installation, I have never used this.
    I hope this helps.

  • Checksums don't match so I can't install JRE (Sparc)

    Hi all:
I download both files sparc.sh and sparcv9.sh twice with sun download manager and without it.
    Both version 1.6.X and 1.5.X;
checksum of both .sh (without sdm)
    44403 41851 jre-1_5_0_16-solaris-sparc.sh

Since I use SDM once I think is pointless tell you ; that I download on windows PC and then transfer (binary) to a sparc machine (S10/u6).
Does anybody know why the md5 checksums of these files are missing.?!
Can you help or forward this issue to know may help me??
    Thanks!

How did you purchase your Adobe software?  Did you purchase a volume license?  If so you can go to https://licensing.adobe.com/ and possibly download the software and burn it to disc outside of the firewall?  If it is a retail copy did you purchase the download version but are now looking to obtain a physical copy of the software?
The physical media does come on one disc and if you do download the software it will fit on a single DVD.
