Can Solution Manager do JAVA change management?

We want to Solution manager 4.0 to control ABAP and JAVA change
across the enterprise.
The only question is that whether we can use Solution Manager to replace NWDI.
Please advise, I'll give points. Thanks!

Hi Sukhii,
This new functionality is called CTS+ or OTO project and is comming in SP12 for Basis:
This enhancement enables you to use the transport functions in Transport Organizer and Transport Management System to transport non-ABAP objects. This includes objects such as the following:
- Objects from the SAP NetWeaver usage type EP (Enterprise Portal Archives, EPAs)
- Objects from the SAP NetWeaver usage type PI (XI transport files, TPZs)
- Objects from the SAP NetWeaver usage type DI (software component archives, SCAs; development component archives, SDAs)
The objects are transported in transport requests (type Workbench Request) along the transport routes defined between systems in CTS. You can include non-ABAP objects in transport requests either in CTS (transaction SE09) or on a Web Dynpro UI.
This enables you to manage transports between non-ABAP SAP systems in a central CTS.
A function for creating non-ABAP systems in CTS has been added to the existing UIs. To deploy objects in non-ABAP systems, you require a NW Java Server as well as SAP NWAS ABAP.
Effects on System Administration
You can now administer transports in a central system by creating non-ABAP systems and defining appropriate transport routes.
Effects on Customizing
Any existing settings in CTS are preserved
For the moment in the Solman system this functionality will be available in ST12 but still is not clear for which scenarios , probably for PI and EP.
Best regards,
Dolores

  • Can Solution Manager manage all the security for all of our SAP Landscape?

Hello Solman gurus - We're looking at Solution Manager once again.  I had installed it for incident management back several years ago during our original go-live - and it fell by the wayside after go-live.  My question is related to the latest and greatest version - can it actually to the administration of security roles, profiles, etc. of all of our SAP systems from within Solution Manager?

If not, could somebody tell me which kind of events can be monitored using the the R/3 plugin provided by CA?
    Regards

  • What can Solution Manager 7.0 provide for PI 7.1?

I work with PI 7.1 EHP 1 and have been asked to determine if time/resource should be invested to setup Solution Manager 7.0 EHP 1 to provide monitoring/management of PI. I attended SAP TechEd 2011, and there was a lot of discussion that SM 7.1 would be a significant part of monitoring for PI 7.3. However, since I'm not on those platforms, can you help me understand what SM 7.0 can provide me as a PI Administrator/Support over what I use now (Runtime Workbench & SXMB_MONI)?
The Solution Manager resource on the BASIS team mentioned that SM takes a lot of configuration and I'd have to learn about Business Process Management to make it do anything useful. What I saw at TechEd showed a nice start page that showed data volume, errors, and nice graph. Perhaps that is only for SM 7.1, but it seemed like a nice data view capability.

    Hello Tadd,
Wily Introscope will provide you with nice (also real-time if you want) metrics for your PI system (dashboards). You can check for some details here:
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/f0b96675-87cf-2c10-b489-dee0ac03f782
Solution Manager requires additional steps in order to be able to configure this monitoring scenario. Once your solution manager is installed and running you have to perform initial configuration -> basic configuration -> managed system configuration
In the last step you'll actually configure diagnostics and willy for your PI system.
If the number of managed systems that you have to connect is small this "3 step" configuration can be done in a couple of weeks.
    Cheers,
    Diego.

  • Question about Alert Framework in Solution Manager

    Hi all,
We are planning to use Solution Manager as Central Monitoring Server, so I want to know what the advantage to use Solution Manager is, especially in Alerting.
We can define auto-reaction methods for monitors to send CCMS alerts to Alert Framework where the alerts can be forwarded to the personal responsible via Email or CCMS.
Is there any difference when using Solution Manager? Which additional functions dose Solution Manager provide in alerting?
In normal SAP Alert Framework, you can only define one receipt for escalation. Can Solution Manager support multiple level escalation? For example, an alert is sent to A, if the Alert is not confirmed by A, then the alert is forwarded to B automatically. The same way the alert can be forwarded to further persons.
    Any idea?
    Thanks!
    Regards,
    Hui

    Hi Hui,
On my opinion there is no any advantage in useíng SAP Solution Manager as central alerting systems in respect to RZ20. The arguments are as follows:
    - in SAP Solution Mnager you have performance restrictions on number of alerts to be displayed in one screen caused by the fact that the alerts are displayed in HTTP format
    - All the customizing in SAP Solution Manager for System Monitoring is Solution specific and not transportable. It means that if you have got corrupted your system monitoring session (that happens not seldom) your settings are lost. If you have created another Solution for the same systems you have to perform customizing from the scratch
    - Customizing is also not very esay to do. I would do recommend to use "User defined Alerts" Please have a look at the SAP Note 1023959 fro this topc
    - SAP Solution Manager does not provide alerting mechanism -> you have to relay to ALM in any case. Here by the way to your second question I would say that it is possible implement exactly process you have described. In the ALM category you can use button escallation to define another person that would be informed via e-mail in case the first Recipient have not completed alert from this category within predefined time
+ The only feature that is unique with System Monitoring with SAP Solution Mnager is the possibility to change threshold values for all the MTEs / MTE Classes that are defined in User Define Alerts an one button click
At the conclussion I would say that there are some custommers that are using SM as monitoring platform But more pragmatical would be to configure RZ20 with help of Rule-based alerts and self- defined system groups and use ALM as alerting infrastructure. In this case you can save in plain XML file your Alert configuration and export it in any other system. ALM has on my opinion enogh functionality for alerting

  • Business process (Integration) monitoring - Solution Manager?

    Hi Experts
I have a requirement here for business process monitoring at my client. The client wants to have a solution for monitoring of few key business processes for example incoming orders. The flow data flow is as follows: third party system -> AS2 -> XI1 ->XI2 -> MQ->ERP. Ideally, all the incoming messages should be processed within 3 minutes of sending by thirdy party system. The basic requirement from business to have a view of the number of messages sent by the external system and numbers of orders created in the system and if there is any message with processing time of more than 3 minutes, it should be reported. Also, if there is any failure in any of the points of failure - the reason of failure needs to be reported
I am thinking of using solution mnaager diagnostics and willy introscope for collecting data from XI Adapter framweork and Integration engine and the ERP system.
    My queries -
Can solution manager fetch the data from non SAP system - AS2 service/MQ etc? if yes, how?
The solution i am thinking of - is it good one or is there any better solution - light weight/performance efficient?
In case i go ahead with the approach mentioned above, would there be an extra licensing cost for installing SMD agents and Willy on different applications?
Can we do a simple reporting i ERP system by fetching data from XI1 & XI2 systems? I understand that it wouldnt give us any details of the Java components or non SAP applications, but keeping in mind the limitations, is it a viable solution?
    Any inputs would be great.
    Regards

    HI Ethan,
I'm not sure about the BPMon framework in Sol MAn 7.0 if it can be used with PI or not. I remember from teched that the end-to-end monitoring for PI was available only in 7.1 and with SAP PI 711.
From what I know wily gives you information about the status on the system (CPU, memory consumption etc) and not about the message flow so you can still use it but for the technical monitoring set up.
Also in teched I have participated at a hands-on workshop (ALM361 [http://www.sapteched.com/emea/edu_sessions/session.htm?id=542]) where we enabled the BPMon framework to use webservices provided by a non-sap application.
    Hope this helps.

  • Solution manager, PI and ERP incl FICA (IS-U) test systems on same HANA DB server Appliance

    Hello
I wander is it possible to have Solution manager, PI and ERP incl FICA (IS-U). All for test/system purposes:
I am sure we need separate application servers for Solution manager, PI and ERP incl FICA (IS-U),
I would have question regarding Appliance i.e Hana DB server. can Solution manager, PI and ERP incl FICA (IS-U) products reside on same Appliance i.e Hana DB server in MCOS or MCOD? (I am sure that for production use this is no-go option)
What is the case when renting cloud solution?
Thank you a lot in advance

Check the java part, most of the Solman Web Based thing use the java, check the management console to ensure message server and dispatcher proper work, normally is: http://hostname:50113.
If central note give you problems deimplement all the not complete implemented notes and use SUM
and MOPZ to update your system with the last SP, then apply the central note acording to your SP level.
We found that have the system in the last level prevents a lot of problems because of not complete implemented notes.

  • Solution Manager Install on Windows/MSSQL-Dev/QA/Production R/3 on AIX-UNIX

    Hello,
We are about to install Solution Manager Install on Windows/MSSQL.  Our current R/3 4.7 Enterprise environments (Dev/QA/Production) are installed on AIX-UNIX servers running Oracle 9i.
Is installing Solution Manager on a windows environment compatible with our R/3 servers in relationship to our transportation management system existing in a UNIX environment?  i.e. can Solution Manager on windows control transports across our UNIX landscape?
If so, could someone point me in the direction of documentation/notes on this?
    Thanks,
    Laurie

You will have to load the Unicode kernel and here is the link to OSS where you can get get the download of SOLMAN for AS/400
    https://websmp110.sap-ag.de/solutionmanager , then choose this one:   ZIP 51033506_7 NW 7.0 SR3 UC-Kernel 7.00 OS/400  Info  550479 24.04.2008 .
The install manuals are out there as well.

  • How is solution manager useful for performance monitoring

    Hi,
I want to check expensive sql statements in production and quality systems. How can solution manager be useful for this.
It would be great if anyone can provide me some documentation on this

    Hi,
In Solution Manager, there is an Early Watch Analysis report which is generated and which has section in the report ' Performance Indicator' in that section you will get 2 things :
    1. Top 10 Transaction codes which has huge response times.
    2. Top 10 program which has huge response times.
and after that you also get the list of expensive SQL statement in the report and then you can just optimize the queries and improve system performance.

  • Solutions Manager 3.2 Installation

Can Solution Manager 3.2 be installed on top of SLD?

    Hi Margie,
Yes Installing SLD and Solution Manager in the same server is the best and convenient also. I will add also other components to add (actually they come with SP12 I do not remember exactly probably with a later SP) like Netweaver Administrator and (NWA, Solution Landscape Management (SLM).
Personally I prefer Option 2 if you are plaining this for a productive system (even you can think about in clustering for HA) if you just want to install a demo or dev option 1 works fine.
Remember when you install Web AS 6.40 ABAP + J2EE It will be created 1 database with two schemas 1 for ABAP and one for J2EE (that will be option 1) wich lead to another option:
if you want you can install Solution Manager 4.0 based in NW04S this also includes Solution Manager Diagnostics which runs in J2EE and in any J2EE is installed the SLD.
The mass shipment is planned for the first quarter of 2006 now probably still in Ramp up of finalizing.
I will recommend Sol Man 4.0 because in my own experience installing/configuring Solution Manager Diagnostics NW04  to monitor the J2EE instances it was time consuming and the configuration guide was not that good hopefully in Sol Man 4.0 is faster to configure.

  • Can't Install Solution Manager on Suse Linux Enterprise Server 10 - JAVA

    Hello everyone!
I've been trying to complete the pre-requisites in order to install Solution Manager SR2 on Suse Linux Enterprise Server 10 x64 - SP1.
There's only one last condition that I haven't met, and it's the Java Runtime Environment version...
I checked the recommended note 867110 and it says that  i need to have installed the J2SDK 1.4.2_08.
SLES10 includes the 1.4.2_13, so I had to uninstall it, and download the right version from  Sun Microsystem's official webpage.
When I installed the version 1.4.2_08, i'm not able to run SAPINST because there's no Java Runtime Environment running on the server.
I started to investigate and I found in some forums [NOT EXPLICITLY] that there's no port for J2SDK 1.4.2_08 on x64 linux systems.
I can't believe this is true because SLES10 is recommended by SAP to install Solution Manager, so I hope somebody can help me on this.
My specific question is: Does anybody know if is true that J2SDK 1.4.2_08 is NOT COMPATIBLE with x64 Linux?
In case of being true, is there any way to be able to run SAPINST ? because if I enable the version SLES brings built in, i'm able to run the SAPINST but it detects that i'm not running version 1.4.2_08 and doesn't allow me to continue installation.
I hope somebody can help me soon...
    Regards!

    > SAPINST_JRE_HOME=/opt/IBMJava2-s390-142/jre/bin:$PATH
    >
    > JAVA_HOME=/opt/IBMJava2-s390-142/jre/bin:$PATH
You downloaded the wrong version - the one you have is for Z-Linux(Linux running on the mainframe - not for x64).
You need to download the x86_64 (or AMD64) version.
Install the correct one and try on a new console:
    export JAVA_HOME=/opt/IBMJava2-amd64-142
    export PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH
    Then execute
    java -fullversion
and it should show the correct version.

  • Solution Manager - Can support user user changes manegement ??

    Hi All,
In solution manager can change request type as a "New user creation" or "User authorization Change".
So that we can keep track of New user creation or change in authorization that are created in respective R/3 system.
The process flow is same like change management for developement correction or customization correction.
Please give me your comments. It will be very valuable for me.
    Thanks in advance.
    Ravindra Nikam

As I said, it will depend on the scenarios you will configure.
For the installation, you will not need any. When it comes to the configuration (SOLMAN_SETUP) you'll need the authorizations in SMP for S-User.
    You can also check here:

    Hello,
First you need to 'install' the language, only then you can activate/use it.
If you have just followed the process mentioned by Rupali, then that process is just for activation/using. There are a number of things you need to perform apart from those steps.
Documentation is necessary, please read the Notes carefully.
