Can somebody tell me if I can upgrade my Macbooks RAM with the following...

I wanted to upgrade my 1 GB RAM to a 4 GB RAM. Will these upgrades fit into my Macbook2, 1? It's a 13" one. This is the serial number W87245L1YA4 and here's a link to the hardware I'm looking at purchasing: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=322813 9&Sku=C13-6082
here's the other hardware I was looking at purchasing if the above one didn't fit:

Memory doesn't typically come that way. It's almost always a base 2 value, and 1 GB is really 1,073,741,824 or 2 to the power of 30. 2 GB is really 2,147,483,648 or 2 to the power of 31. This is not the way disk drives are typically sold, although some of the newer solid state drives may be sold that way. Disk drives are sold with 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes, where they guarantee at least that much capacity (could be more with enough extra capacity to allow bad sectors to be mapped out and still be at least the listed capacity). You'll notice that all single memory modules are sold as with base 2 memory capacity like 256 MB, 512 MB, 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB, etc.
The information that you can't install more than 3 GB is not correct. MacBook2,1 is one of the first generation Core 2 Duo machines. Apple only specs them as using up to 2 GB, but people have successfully installed 4 GB and reported that 3 GB (some even report 3.3) was used. The are supposedly minor performance benefits (memory interleaving) to using two identically sized modules in each slot; using 2x2GB in your particular machine supposedly gives a slight benefit for video performance.
MacBook2,1 means one of these machines:

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook/stats/macbook-core-2-duo-2.0-white -13-specs.html
http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook/stats/macbook-core-2-duo-2.0-black -13-specs.html
This is Everymac's disclaimer about memory for your particular machine:
*Apple officially supports 2 GB of RAM, but third-parties have been "unofficially" able to upgrade it to 3 GB or 4 GB of RAM (it can hold 4 GB but cannot fully utilize the memory beyond 3 GB).
Other World Computing has test results including 2x2 GB used in a Nov 2006 1.83GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook (MacBook 2,1) and they got slightly better results in some areas, and slightly worse in others. The cost of getting 2x2GB shouldn't really be an obstacle these days.

  • How do I upgrade my MacBook Air with the same IOS as my iMac without paying twice for it?

Hello! I have a question concerning IOS 7 upgrade for my MacBook Air which I have already on my iMac. Know it must be possible  without paying twice for it, but I have forgotten how? Can anyone help?

iOS is the operating system for iPhones, iPads, etc.
Mac OS is the operating system for Mac computers.
Which version of Mac OS are you running on your iMac? (You're not running iOS6 on it.)
If you purchased that OS from the app store, then you can download it to as many computers as you own or control (including your Macbook Air). However, if your iMac came preinstalled with the current OS, then the license is only good for that computer and you must buy it for any other computer.

I upgraded my MacBook Pro with Lion (but with iphoto 9.2.1) to Maverick and now I can't open iphoto and I can't update either - can anyone help please?

Download the iPhoto upgrade from the App Store. It should be free.
iWork and iLife for Mac come free with every new Mac purchase. Existing users running Mavericks can update their apps for free from the Mac App Store℠. iWork and iLife for iOS are available for free from the App Store℠ for any new device running iOS 7, and are also available as free updates for existing users. GarageBand for Mac and iOS are free for all OS X Mavericks and iOS 7 users. Additional GarageBand instruments and sounds are available for a one-time in-app purchase of $4.99 for each platform.

  • What operating software can i upgrade to with the following specification on my macbook - 10.4.11?

    Hi,
I hope someone can help clarify the following for me as i'm getting a bit confused by what i can and can't do..
I have recently upgraded my macbook with new memory and ram to help improve functionality as it's quite old now.
I have a Iphone 4s and it's apparant that i need to upgrade my operating software.
Can someone clarify what operating software i can get with the following macbook specifiation:
    MacBook
    Model identifier: Macbook2,1
Processor name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor speed: 2 GHZ
    Number of processors: 1
    Total number of cores: 2
    L2 Cache (per processor): 4mb
    Memory: 2 Gb
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
    Many thanks in advance
    Simon

You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_GB_barrier
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/faq/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-3-g b-memory-limitation-details.html
OWC tests have found that there is a slight speed increase with having two 2gb sticks in rather than one 1gb and one 2gb. Your model is in the gray lines at the bottom of the graph. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Memory_Benchmark/Apple_MacBook/
You can upgrade from 10.4 straight to 10.6 with no problems. Any program that runs under 10.4 should run under10.6. See this list for compatibility with 10.6: http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/  You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc....
And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any Power PC applications http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_installing_rosetta/   I recently upgraded an older MacBook (model 1,1) straight from 10.4 to 10.6.
Once you are at 10.6.8 Lion is still available from Apple. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store.  The price is $19.99.
Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly. As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

  • Can I use 2 iPhones with the same iTunes account? help...

At the moment I have an iPhone 3G but my wife doesn't. I have a Windows Vista machine at home that has all our music in iTunes and all the apps I have downloaded from the app store. We only have 1 login to our windows vista PC that we share, we don't have individual signons.
On Friday I will be upgrading to the 3Gs and my wife will also be getting one.
My question is can we sync both iPhones with the same PC using the same Windows login and the same iTunes account, i.e. share all music and apps with both iPhones?
    Thanks

A computer can sync a dozen iPods and/or iPhones (just saying).
However, You can't use more than one computer for that iPhone.

  • If I buy an external hard drive for my new MacBook Pro with the retina display, can I play The Sims 3 on it?

    Hi!
I recently bought the new MacBook Pro with the new retina display, but since it does not have a dvd/cd drive, I was going to buy an external one. I think I will be able to use it to watch dvds, but can I also play the computergame The Sims 3 on it? If not is there anything else I can do?
    Thank you!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can try formatting the external drive on your eMac using Disk Utility and choosing a well-known format > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html. It's quite possible that your new iMac would be able to read it, but first, tell us which formats Disk Utility lists.
If you have those songs in iTunes, simply go to Music folder and copy the iTunes folder to the external drive. Then, connect it to the iMac and copy the iTunes folder to Music folder.
If they are not in iTunes, copy your songs to the external drive. Then, connect it to your new iMac, open iTunes and drag the songs into it

  • Do you have to use the Apple RAM with the heatsink? Or can you use any 667 MGz DDR2 RAM?

I'm sprucing up my MacPro 2 x 2.66 GHz (hard drives, video card, & RAM) and would like to know if I have to use Apple's RAM with the heatsink on it.
Meaning, the RAM I end up purchasing, does it HAVE to have the heat sink on it? Or can I use any regular DDR2 667 MHz dimms?
I've been asking/researching and am getting mixed answers.
    Thanks for the help!

You MUST use RAM with both the large Apple-specified Heatsink AND the Apple approved Temperature Sensor. These are "tuned" to the airflow inside a Mac Pro. Modules must also be ECC modules, 72 data bits wide.
If you decide not to, the internal fans may not work properly, the modules will get too hot and will fail prematurely
The best way to solve this pronlem is to deal with a Vendor that knows Macs and can tell YOU which modules work in your Mac -- guaranteed or your money back if it does not work for any reason. And a lifetime warranty -- if it ever fails and still has their sticker on it, they will replace it, free.
There are a few one-off deals out there that may be a little cheaper, but the cost of dealing with reputable Mac-oriented Vendors does not add substantially to the price. And you do not get stuck with "you buy it, you own it" modules that do not work in your Mac.

Get rid of Sophos Anti-Virus software you have installed. Use the uninstaller or:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead.  Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
    AppZapper
    Automaton
    Hazel
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
